So the voice option never worked a crashes and starts over every time it's never worked for me on my Nvidia shield now for some reason it will not connect I deleted it reinstalled restarted the phone vice versa every possible different way nothing so now I have to wait for a new update to see if it fixes it otherwise it's useless at this point because it won't connect and obviously the voice function doesn't work either
It would be nice if it connected again and the boys option worked otherwise the keyboard worked fine but AndroidTV will probably not be your daily driver remote because it's a little tricky in a pinch it does the job but with Nvidia shield double pressing the home button doesn't bring you to the screen where you can kill an app that's running in the background so it's not better or as good as the supplied remote

I am not sure how Google is still allowed to make Apps for iOS. If I were them I’d be embarrassed, or just not even bother making iOS apps anymore. All of their iOS apps are so mediocre, unreliable, and behind their other platform’s apps, it’s amazing they haven’t been kicked out of the Apple iOS App Store. Good luck to you Google, keep on believing you’re “winning customers” over to your platform by making terrible iOS apps. Or I guess that doesn’t really matter when you get so big, things like this become so insignificant, right?

Google really dropped the ball on AndroidTV. Also as you can see, it hasn’t been updated in three years. There’s a reason for that. In its current state, very shaky at best. If it worked more than ONCE, I might be able to give it a higher review. Actually, I might be able to review it, even, if it connected more than one time. Even after removing, reinstalling, rebooting everything. Disappointed.

Honestly worked alright for about a month. Yeah, there were ads, and sometimes had trouble even connecting to the chromecast/googletv. Now it won’t connect at all. I wish I bought a Roku, bc their remote control app at least works. Would be alright if my google home or google assistant ever actually navigated to my streaming services when I request them to do so! Don’t waste your time with AndroidTV… or a chromecast for that matter.

AndroidTV was already terrible to begin with, but it was our best option for chromecast users who needed a phone remote. Google has literally shut AndroidTV down now. That goes to show you how much they care about its user base. You figure a company of that size would have a better transition plan for its customers. But it just seems like they do things on a whim, with no plan or regard for its user base. Apple should remove AndroidTV from AndroidTV store.

I’ve been using this application for last five years and suddenly couple of months ago AndroidTV stopped working, then I went to AndroidTV Store and found out that this application has not been updated for ages. I cannot find any other decent app where I can copy a link from my phone and paste it in the TV browser or VLC. This is really frustrating please google update this application ASAP and give us some new feature as well.

Well, maybe not "love" because it would crash after being open for a few minutes about 50% of the time. After the first crash it would be fine until the next time I used it. Now....the update made it to where I can't even connect my phone to AndroidTV . I've tried everything.. network connection, force closing, uninstalling/reinstalling, phone off/on.. nothing works. Very upset and now I can't use the device, my remote is broken 👎🏻

I keep buying google products, but they continue to disappoint in hardware and software. This is the last straw. Downloaded AndroidTV as a workaround to a Google Nexus remote that wasn’t working very well (would only work half of the time you pressed buttons). Well, AndroidTV crashes every time you try to use the voice feature and most of the time when you try to use the keyboard feature. I see here that someone posted the same problem about 6 months before my review, so it’s clear that Google isn’t working on AndroidTV very much. Google Nexus was discontinued and AndroidTV is probably dead too. Goodbye google products.

It was working most of the time with occasional disconnections which were annoying but tolerable mostly because there is no alternative. However it has stopped working completely. It does not find find local network devices anymore. Relaunching AndroidTV would solve it in the past but it doesn’t now. It became completely useless. Google this is an embarrassing app for a company at your caliber. You are a 2 trillion dollar company and AndroidTV is completely and utterly disgraceful. Shame on you.
Sony Bravia and IPad mini 6 does not connect if that matters to anyone while Google Home is able to do so on the same devices.

The keyboard option doesn’t work on my phone when I type something into it. Like when I needed to type my password into it for google movies to confirm my purchase. The keyboard pops up and you can type the words in but then doesn’t show up on the tv. I am connected to the tv I even went back to redo the purchase from my phone and still would not show up on the tv after typing it on my phone.

It’s good for changing channels and fast forwarding and rewinding, and pausing. But there’s not a volume or on off button, super annoying since I have a Phillips tv and it was the Black Friday special so the buttons on the tv are quite finicky and the remote that came with it, well you might as well cause it the finger workout machine, cause that doesn’t work 99% of the time. But when using AndroidTV I can scroll around easily, just wish there was power and volume. 2 star till thats fixed
by Zathustra
AndroidTV has no power on/off, volume control or fast forward/rewind functionality - something without which no remote can function.
I would be fine if keyboard or voice control didn’t work. But basic remote functionalities are a must. I hope they provide these basic features.

Every time I use this, it disconnects from the tv so then I have to wait a few seconds for it to connect again. Sometimes the tv remote doesn’t even work. Sometimes when one of the buttons, it would work so I would press it multiple times and then after 5 minutes it presses the key the amount of times I pressed it. It doesn’t even connect to the tv when I open AndroidTV , I have to press it multiple times until it connects. It says the tv has to be on the same wifi but it already is. This is a horrible app.

So idk what people are talking about with the keyboard issue bc i used it to type something and it worked just fine but i have an issue where when i use the microphone, as an example i said “open google play store”, it just picked up “play store”, thats fine. But after that the play store opened and AndroidTV said reconnecting... i waited 5 minutes still reconnecting. So i press cancel and the cancel button grays out and same thing. Please fix the mic issue. Keyboard works fine with my iPhone 7 and ChromeCast that i have hooked up through hdmi on my non-smart vizio tv

AndroidTV is not a replacement for your chromecast remote. I have an IPhone X and it does what a remote is suppose to which is click through and get me when I need to be. Audio feature works alright, not perfect. It does disconnect sometimes but just close AndroidTV and reconnect to the tv. Not convenient but it was convenient enough to play my TV without me having to get up and find my control.

All other review listed are so negative! AndroidTV works so well! Most apps on the tv come with a built in keyboard, so obviously the keyboard feature isn’t very useful (which is where most negative reviews come from). AndroidTV connects to the tv quickly and responds quickly. Could not have asked for a better app!

I am on a Sony Bravia 65 inch A8G TV and it has google built into it. And I have use this remote for seven months now and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it and my experience. Good is much more responsive than the actual TV remote which I find kind of strange. But I don’t understand why it’s rated so poorly. They also don’t charge add revenue or in our purchases so I don’t know what everyone’s complaining about
by Teebs970
It responds quickly only thing I havnt used yet is the key pad. The one thing bugs me the most is where is the power button? Where is the volume button? These are my only issues, besides that I really have no complaints. I will give 5 stars in hope this changes.

This does what previously required two remotes. I needed the second one, to do voice commands. Those are $50 plus to replace. This even provides the touchpad! Yes it can be a little fiddly but no more so than the touchpad remote is.
I have never been more satisfied with a TV remote control app.
Well done !

If you are looking for an app to control your new Chromechast from your iPhone, this will do it. I really wish Google would update AndroidTV to support latest iPhone displays but the basic functionality works.

Never expected Google to create an app which people can’t even use. If you foreground and come back AndroidTV will take time to connect or crash. Basic back/ home usage will cause a crash. Just used AndroidTV while watching TV any tap on next/ previous/up and down button will crash AndroidTV. Such a lousy low quality annoying app from Google.
My remote ran out of battery else would not have downloaded this thing.
by Mesostinky
The main reason you would want this is so you can use the keyboard because obviously typing with the remote is simply awful. Well the keyboard is broken. If you go to type David you’ll get ddddaavvvvviidddd. Etc. doesn’t really matter what you type you get bunches of letters. I’ve reinstalled AndroidTV and no go. Since I’ve been using AndroidTV it saw (1) update like 2 years ago and that was that. Keyboard continues to be unusable which is a shame since that’s the only reason I need AndroidTV . And of course you can’t just call up Google and get it fixed. Might as well just open your window and yell outside, it will have the same effect. Welcome to the 21st century and your corporate overlords, there’s nobody to blame because there’s nobody you can talk to.

This is convenient to use with my TV. Fact is, I’ve had the TV 6 months and didn’t even know AndroidTV was an option. Yet, for the convenience it provides, the fact that activating the voice option causes AndroidTV to crash immediately is poor development.

I don't understand the reviews. I'm using it for my SonyXBR930d which works perfectly. Basic functionality when you can't find (feel like looking for it) the remote.
