Crashes when paying for pro version

Deleted, redownloaded, tried restoring, tried updating iphone version, tried turning iphone off and on. Nothing works and now all my saved workouts and logs are gone. I only wanted to get the pro version because i thought i might be able to share my workouts with my workout partner easily since my 8 exercise, 4 set each, usual workouts are too long and required like 7 screenshots compared to the 2 when just writing in the free Notes app.

Also none of the most common exercises were in the default choices. Don’t recommend FitNotes and wish I hadn’t wasted my time and money.

New updates made the app bad

I really liked FitNotes and immediately bought the premium version. I‘ve setup my exercises and workout plans. Then, with one of the recent updates a few weeks ago, the devs seem to have decided to create their own categories for muscle groups and simply overwrote my own or added theirs. The outcome: most of my exercises are now in a category I don’t want them to be. And worst thing about this is that it happened without even a notification and the possibility to decline. Aside from that, replacing an exercise during a workout often leads to the exercise AFTER the selected one being replaced.

EDIT: I have to revise my rating from 3 stars to 1 star. Just tried to re-sort my exercises and deleted all the new categories. Some genius dev thought it would be good to automatically delete all the exercises if the category is deleted. So I basically have to fully recreate everything I‘ve built over the past months. Thanks for nothing. Actually less than nothing since I now have double the work.

Can’t Share Created Workout

I created a workout for my gym partner and myself but I can’t share it with him. FitNotes is great, I like to track my workouts and see my improvements. But it takes a long time to create a workout and now my gym partner has to go through all the steps of creating an exercise, adding the reps and sets, with weight and machine to use, and everything else that it takes to make your workout tracking perfect which took me 30 minutes to do. That’s pretty much a waste hour. When I try to share an importable version it does nothing. If I do text, it literally just shows the text of the exercises that would have to be copy and pasted one at a time.

Not user friendly!

FitNotes is not user friendly at all. You can’t delete anything. You can’t remove sets from an exercise. You can’t remove exercises from a workout plan. It’s extremely frustrating. It appears so far to be the only one without a subscription but it is not well thought out. Missing lots of key exercises like incline bench press. You can manually create exercises but you sure can’t edit any of the inputted information. So don’t mess up!

I’d find something else personally. I have no problem purchasing an app. I don’t like the subscription model, but I’m debating purchasing one as there is nothing good on FitNotes Store that is free or a paid app without a subscription.

Update: I have tried swiping. It does nothing in either direction. I can click edit but nothing happens if I perform the actions stated in the developer response. I have an iPhone XS Max I am on the latest version of iOS. I don’t know what the issue is.

Needs some improvements

I love(d) FitNotes for simple gym tracking. One thing that’s maddening is that you can duplicate “days” but you can’t duplicate “workouts”. My workouts are over several weeks so being able to duplicate a workout from Week 1 to change it for Week 2 and tweak a few lifts/day and the rep count would be sooooo much easier than having to recreate an entire week multiple times.

Otherwise the feature set is pretty decent. App support and updates have been pretty minimal lately but the software still works fine.

6 feedback items

1. "Continue With Last Workout Values" only seems to work between the same workout. It would be good if there were at least an option to "Continue With Last Exercise Values", so it works for the same exercises among different workouts.

2. Exercise notes, which can include important information that can affect decisions in future workouts, are not currently included in CSV exports. It would be helpful if notes could be included.

3. In Notes boxes (e.g. Exercise Note), for increased usability there should be ghost/placeholder text of the notes last entered for that note type in a prior workout, as the notes may be intended to affect decisions in future workouts. See RepCount for an example.

4. In any workout, after exiting the Notes section of any exercise (containing boxes: Exercise Note, Workout Note, Workout Definition Note, Exercise Definition Note), the workout page has been scrolled all the way to the top. For usability, it should instead return to where the user had been on the page.

5. It seems that data is not synced to the cloud, which would mean app data loss should FitNotes be deleted or reinstalled, in which case a cloud sync option should be added.

6. A dark mode, in which the full interface has a dark color theme, would be great. Currently it appears that only certain portions of the interface vary in color among the existing themes (e.g. top, buttons, tab icons), whereas most of it remains light.

Updated: Solid workout tracking app

*Update* The developer has fixed the issue summarized below. Fortunately all of my data is still in FitNotes (although I now have a 638 hour active workout) and I can go back to using this app to design my gym workouts and track my progress. I’ve tried a lot of free and paid fitness tracking apps, and this one is a top 3 favorite. I appreciate being able to plan my workouts ahead of time, while also retaining the ability to add/remove/replace exercises mid-workout.

I used FitNotes pretty successfully for several months. Ever since upgrading to iOS 13.0, it won’t open at all even after uninstalling and reinstalling. I’m bummed I lost all of my data.

Before this issue, I did like using this app. It was easy to setup new workouts and swap exercises during a workout. I liked how it tracked the last weight & reps for each exercise.

Solid but it takes a while to get used to

I was just looking for an app to track my strength gains and for $2 for the pro app I think it was worth it. I wish the graphs could show me the individual workouts instead of overall training volume. I want to be able to see how much my bench press has improved ect. FitNotes does remember what weight you did in the previous workout which is nice. If you use any kind of cable machines expect that you’ll have to manually add the workout as most machines don’t come pre programmed in.

Awesome app

The best app, does everything I want. Downloaded 10 other apps trying to find what this one was able to do (make my own custom exercises, timer between reps, easy logs, make my own workouts, etc). I’m very happy with FitNotes and have no need to find another.
Small nit: When exporting to csv and saving to files, the “save” button in the top right and “cancel” in the top left are white text on a white background making them invisible. I discovered them by accident just tapping around on the screen after not seeing a save button

New User- It’s Great!

I have just recently started using this app and I have noticed that thanks to the ability to stay very organized with my workouts, I am able to better keep track of my progress and it keeps me encouraged and motivated to keep working out, as it is very easy to use and keep track of the exercises that I complete in a workout and how much weight I am lifting. I also like that I am able to keep track of my weight. I weigh myself every morning before a workout, and I record it alongside the workout.

Great app with minor suggestions that would make it exceptional!

Love FitNotes so much so that it’s one of three apps Ive ever paid money for which allows you to see the data behind your lifts. I have two suggestions though

1) For the colored circles on the calendar if they added an option that allowed you to split the day like a pie chart then it would be easier to see days with multiple workouts for example I have a running workout and it would be nice to see a split day showing both colors on that day instead of the most recent one completely taking over the days earlier work out

2) Please add an option to split inputs for workouts that isolate one arm/leg at a time. I don’t always finish the same number of reps for each site and it’s tedious to add a note saying how much was done on the other arm.

Thank you again for such a wonderful app!

If you like control over your workouts, get this app

It took me so long to find a good workout app that would easily allow me to enter custom exercises and sets, all with no ads in your face constantly distracting you. If you don’t want to make custom exercises, FitNotes has a hefty database of exercises that anyone can find a use for. I’ll never need another fitness app again! By the way, I love the Plate Calculator feature! I wish it wasn’t hidden away in the settings tab. It’s super useful.

Perfect app for me

I normally don’t review apps, but in this case I feel it’s a must. I previewed many fitness tracker apps and after plodding through many that didn’t offer the flexibility I was looking for, I discovered Fit Notes. It’s simple, straightforward, easy to navigate and best of all very easy to customize to my specific needs. If a certain exercise is not in the preloaded list it’s a simple task to add whatever you want. I started with the free download, but after a week of use upgraded to the pro. Not necessarily for the additional features, it’s pretty awesome as is, but to support the developer. Great app! Could not be happier with it.

Outstanding Customer Service

When I first purchased FitNotes , I had a couple of issues. I contacted the developer and writhing 30 minutes I had a response that solved all of my concerns. I’ve honestly never had a response that timely from a developer.
FitNotes itself has all the functionality that I was looking for. If you do lots of supersets and drop sets, you may run into a few issues. For the typical workout program FitNotes simply cannot be beat!
Top Notch app!!

I love this app

FitNotes is probably the best workout app I’ve ever used. I’ve tried and been through various apps and this one is amazing. The only thing that I think is missing is a way to group exercises into supersets or triple sets. It’s not really necessary for the way FitNotes is built but it would be addition.

This is still my favorite app to track my workout. I’ve recently just got an Apple Watch and with that there was a way to track on the watch.

Value for money!

This was the only app I found where you could purchase, ONCE, and do your own thing. All the others are trying to squeeze money out of you with paid subscriptions that never stop billing you. It's simple and straight forward. So if you know what you're doing and just need to keep track on something other than a notebook, this is a great app!

Great Log, Customizable, Handy Timers

I have tested out a half dozen work out trackers, and I always come back to this one. It has the simplest layout, is easiest to build workouts, and is easiest to edit on the fly, and it doesn’t give me a bunch of extras that I have to ignore. If you want a straightforward digital notebook to log workouts, this is your app. If you want a little extra, such as workout and rest timers, prebuilt workouts, and quick customizability, this is still your app. If you need extraneous stats, trophies, videos, or a social network built into your workout, then you won’t like FitNotes.

Excellent for the price

Not in any program so I wanted something to keep track of my work out and modify the volume to my needs. One thing I do want is a way to see previous 5,3,2, and 1 rep max, without having to go back to the previous working week. And I would def pay more if they can add a percentage calculator in there lol. Input one rep max and said u want 85% for a triple bam done and I don’t need to math

Great gym app!

Very simplistic layout, no frills, lots of functionalities and can be as flexible as you set it up to be. I hope this thing is supported for a while because I love all the analytics it provides and it helps me stay on track with my lifting goals. It took me a little bit to get used to the menu system, but now it’s a breeze to set stuff up the way I want. Cheers to the developer!

excellent app but

It is an excellent app but it has some things that can be improved. 1- a graphic chart to see the progress in different muscle groups. 2-a chronometer can be added to be used when I have to do exercises with time, for example, planks. 3- make muscle groups categories because when I add a new exercise, I'm not sure if the muscle category is or not right.
