Best workout app I’ve used

I’m not a professional athlete nor do I have the budget for personal training. I’ve used 5-7 other exercise apps, and this is the most useful one I’ve found. I do pay the premium membership; as with any other exercise app I’ve used, you don’t get the great features on a basic membership. The money is totally worth it for me. I can customize workout plans based on objective, current shape I’m in, venue (gym vs home) and number of times I plan to workout. There are several off-the-shelf plans to choose from based on the above. I instead had WorkoutPlannerGymTracker customize a workout plan just for me (also based on objectives, current ability, venue and workout frequency) and it’s exactly what I need - calibrates both the exercises and the weight resistance based on how much I can lift at the time. There are very detailed and helpful demos for each exercise along with a video showing proper form and a tracker of past performance on said exercise. Again, by far, the most useful, flexible and customizable app I’ve found and totally with the money.

Clean layout but extremely limited for the price

WorkoutPlannerGymTracker HAS ZERO INTEGRATION WITH APPLE WATCH AND DOES NOT RECORD ANY INFORMATION TO THE HEALTH APP

WorkoutPlannerGymTracker seems to only serve as a ready made workout catalogue. These workouts claim to have a few different variations but they are not very different in some categories like the “get in shape” workout. These literally are the same other that the cardio portion. There is a nice chart that describes appropriate exercises for each target muscle area however the list is very limited in certain muscle groups. I hope this will expand in time. In terms of keeping track of your progress WorkoutPlannerGymTracker has a horrible layout that does not allow you to edit your workouts or give you any type of usable data to track your progress. They consider it a way to log your exercise but you’d be better off writing it down on a sheet of paper.

If you want a quick and easy list of workouts that will eventually grow stale then WorkoutPlannerGymTracker should work for you. If you are serious about your exercise and want an app that will actually work with your iPhone, Apple Watch and health app then stay far away from WorkoutPlannerGymTracker until the developers actually give you something worth paying for. There are far better apps available like Gymaholic.

Great App with plenty of exercises to keep you busy in the gym!

WorkoutPlannerGymTracker features a ton of exercises specific to every major muscle group in the body. For $40, you can get a lifetime subscription that will give you access to all of their professionally developed workouts and exercise plans. Even if you choose to use it for free like I do, you can tailor each one of your workouts to meet your individual goals. You can also share your homemade workouts with your friends and vice versa. The only issue I've run in to so far is that there aren't enough single-arm variants to most of the typical double-arm exercises. I like doing single-arm movements because it allows me to focus on each side and prevents me from depending on my "stronger" side during double-arm lifts. However, WorkoutPlannerGymTracker doesn't have a lot of these single-arm lifts so I can't plug them in to my custom workouts. It's not a huge deal, but it requires me to explain my workout a little more when I share it with my friends. Other than that, WorkoutPlannerGymTracker is great and I recommend it to anyone who is committed to or wants to commit themselves to going to the gym more often.

Love this App! Best workout App!

I love WorkoutPlannerGymTracker ! Its definitely become my most loved fitness app. I use it when Im at the gym and also at home when I can’t go to the gym. For the gym I use their pre-planned workouts and for home I built my own using their exercises. I like the way the workouts flow and guide my through my exercises. I don’t have to keep track of time because it does it for me, and I don’t have to remember the exercises because the phone is with me and I can see what is the next thing I need to do.
If you want to build your own workout you can just create different workouts from scratch, or what I like better you can take one of their existing workouts and just modify it and that way its really easy and a lot less work. To build a REALLY quick workout on the fly you click the muscle you want to train it brings up exercises for that muscles, then you click the star to add it to sort of a list of favorites and use that as a workout plan. Click the star again to take it off the workout plan.

"My trainer" feature is a great improvement

Having now "My trainer" as a full option with the opportunity to log the workout, time the rest pauses, log the weight you lift and all other features in one single option without the need of jumping from one place to the other is simply amazing. I found this feature to be the main reason for me to be motivated to go to the gym every day and stay focused during the session. The badges and the summary about how much weight you lifted is a plus to keep your motivation in line.

I'm not giving this update 5 stars just because I found annoying the fact that once an exercise is started you cannot see the video and exercise information again to check if you are doing the right technique. Also, it should have an option to pause the exercise to exit temporarily the log without telling WorkoutPlannerGymTracker you're done with the entire workout, for example to check the video again or in the case your battery is about to die, you can save what to have done so far, and re-start the log when you get enough battery life again.

Best Work Out App

Honestly have been using WorkoutPlannerGymTracker on and off for 5 years. I enjoy the updates and the extra work outs they have added to create your own. I used this when i was first weight lifting and its great for tutorials for beginners, tracking for all levels, & recording to see just how hard you go at the gym. You can share your workouts with your friends and/or ask someone hey does this look like a great set list. This keeps me in the zone with knowing what i need to do next and not just aimlessly walking around and looking lost. Oh a machine or area is taken; thats fine. You can click on the next set and come back to what you need. You can also modify it while actually using it to get an accurate reading of how many reps, how long you work out is, and how much weight you lifted in total. It’s pretty awesome and totally recommend it to all my friends and family! Thank you for creating this, as it has helped me feel more comfortable in the gym!

So Far So Good!

Easy to use, routines are clearly explained with video for each exercise in a set. They just updated WorkoutPlannerGymTracker with new stuff, which was cool. I did buy the full version. Also there are no problems listening to music and going to WorkoutPlannerGymTracker to update the reps/weight (using iPhone). It’s simple to enter reps and weight for each rep, as simple as using those older paper logs. Very easy to enter during rest period then get back to the next exercise. They do have exercises with a little ‘chain’ icon (superset?), I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do with that so maybe a bit more explanation in that area would be nice. But that doesn’t take away my recommendation experience of the ease of use and depth of exercises and routines offered. Great app, especially for anyone wanting some variety in exercises but maybe not knowing how to properly perform a new exercise. WorkoutPlannerGymTracker contains the routine and technique guide, great for new and vet trainers.

Trying to make the best of it

So now that corona quarantine feels imminent I looked for “equipment free work outs” that I can do at home. There is no full workout, fine I can deal. I thought I’d make my own. There are no equipment free exercises for lats, shoulders, traps, forearms, biceps, abductors, adductors, or hamstrings.... there is no way to search for equipment free exercises. The most annoying part is I can’t find a way to create my own exercise. So I’m pretty much not able to use WorkoutPlannerGymTracker if I don’t have equipment.....

Beware the 7 day trial. I used it once, then was on vacation and got charged the $89. So now I’m trying to use the crap out of to get my moneys worth, which has kind of been working to get me to the gym more often. The workouts are good. I’ve been doing the get in shape workout and I like it. I’ve noticed it being a little glitchy with giving the ding noise before the timer is actually done. It also won’t let you look at the info for the next exercise while you are on the rest for the last one. When you click the ? For the next workout, it just brings up the info for the current workout.

Loved it until the update…

I’ve been using WorkoutPlannerGymTracker for over a year now with good results. Unfortunately, as of a couple of weeks ago, all of the individual workouts have disappeared (I.e. Extreme Arms, Arnold’s Back, etc).

If you’re currently in a program then you basically have to start a completely new program to add an extra day of abs or arms. Meaning you lose progress on your current plan and if you want to go back to it, you have to start over from week 1. You used to be able to select a one-time workout to add to your weekly program if you felt like focusing a little more on a certain muscle group. You, of course, can still review specific exercises in the ‘exercises’ tab, but you cannot create and track a workout or it’s progress if it’s not a part of your overall program. It’s really kind of dumb and I’m not sure why they made this change.

I contacted the company to get some answers or advice and have yet to hear back from them. I’ll probably cancel my membership and look for another app given the new limitations on this one.

Great app

Because success with this relies mostly on you, this is more advice than anything. First, be patient with yourself and WorkoutPlannerGymTracker if you’re new. It’s a lot, because frankly it’s a lot to know. So start slow. Familiarize yourself with every feature and modification. A lot of people have health issues (I’ve had 5 spinal surgeries) so a rigid plan off the bat isn’t feasible. It took me a week or two to realize modifications are easy. Second: know your level and take the advice for that level. If you’ve messed around with weights once or twice but never had a legit trainer, you are still a beginner. That’s okay. Everyone has to be at some point whether their parents taught them at age 6 or they started mid-50’s. And there’s nothing wrong with either one, if you’re mid-50’s and still a beginner, then at least you’re doing something about it finally.

Well made app !!

I never wrote reviews for apps but this workout app is helpful for all skill levels and so user friendly! WorkoutPlannerGymTracker provides pictures, categories, and a simple workout template which is easy to fill out with auto options and recommendations. You can set up multiple workout routines, add and name the days, add reps and there's so many different workouts on here! The workouts are sorted by muscle type and showed you exactly where on the body the exercise focuses. The only exercises I didn't see listed were unweights squats and lunges.

My only suggestion would be to add a notes section on the workout routine page to add notes on a particular day or create your own exercise that isn't listed!

WorkoutPlannerGymTracker has honestly motivated me to make a multi day workout routine just because it is so easy to use and create on WorkoutPlannerGymTracker ! I can't wait to start using WorkoutPlannerGymTracker for the routine I made. Thank you !!

At first skeptical because of it being an advertisement but.

This has honestly been a game changer for me, so much that it made me make my brother get it always been stuck at the gym always overthinking what to do vs just doing it WorkoutPlannerGymTracker allows for so much customization that u just walk in and do it. And the fact that u can add a focus group, for people who are at that intermediate level but ready to step up and even high level performances can use it to spice up there work routines and get other new ideas as to what to go to next week, also the way it tracks your progress but keeps u at pace with rest break timers that u don’t even have to look at because it just beeps as well in the background of your music. You can turn it off but I really like it keeps you focused.

Great app, but missing some exercises.

I’ve been downloading tons of fitness apps to build and track my own routines, and so far I’ve that either you pay to track your work out or you don’t get enough exercises even basic ones. WorkoutPlannerGymTracker falls in the later category, missing some key basic exercises. WorkoutPlannerGymTracker is great in other ways, you can creat and track your own workout. You can start the workout and it will time and notify you when your rest period is up, even on your Apple Watch! At the end of your workout it gives you a summary report of the time you spent and how much weight you moved overall. My only compliant so far is in the lack of basic exercises, I don’t see any Smith machines exercises for people who go to gyms that don’t support barbell free weight, nor did I see any barbell back exercises. Shame, would have given five stars if they had more exercises to more accurately capture your workout.

Maintaining focus and heart rate is important.

I enjoy using WorkoutPlannerGymTracker to pre-plan which muscle groups I will work and how to meet my unique requirements.
I’ve endured multiple spinal surgeries in the cervical spine and just 8 months ago, my third lumbar fusion in as many years.
I’m preforming Extended PT to regain strength, endurance and lean muscle growth.
My challenge is each arm/hand has limitations due to nerve damage and I may discover the same with both legs and feet. This causes me to focus upon my weakest limb first, then matching on the stronger side to maintain symmetry.
WorkoutPlannerGymTracker reduces time expended between exercises as I’m able to map out my workouts in advance, and if necessary, immediate alternative exercises when equipment availability is limited due to use or maintenance.
Working the heart by maintaining an elevated heartbeat between exercises is as important as working biceps and triceps.
Lost time is lost opportunity and at 62 I can’t afford any losses!
With gratitude and hoping future expansions combine both fitness with a diet diary allowing me to track my caloric intake along with my efforts inside my gym.
One needs to understand which foods provide the best energy for power and eliminate unnecessary or excessive calories to remain lean while increasing muscle.

It's a great app BUT...

It doesn't show how many calories I've burned doing the workout programs I've chosen. If you get the free version, the 2 day a week gym program is unlocked. I paid to access the rest. It's not bad I suppose for a year since it's about 1/33 of a paid fitness trainer. If you buy the lifetime app get ready to be bored if you've done ALL the workout programs because from the looks of it, it doesn't get updated with new programs. I paid for a year to try it out. You can make copies of the workout program and edit to your liking. It keeps a list of the workouts you've completed (list not calendar tracking which would be nice) but I suppose it's an app made to focus on the programs instead of the bells and whistles other apps offer which is why I have a folder on my phone with all my fitness apps that offers different things. I guess there's not one app that does all.

Excellent app for workouts!!

I’ve been using WorkoutPlannerGymTracker for close to 2 years now and I think it’s one of the best workout apps out there. I was so glad that the developers added the option to create your own exercises. Really improved the versatility. Probably the only things I can say that they should include are the following:
- The option to add notes to your exercises. For me, I like to save the reps I made for the current workout so I know where I left off the next time I go. The problem is I sometimes forget the weight and rep range I’m aiming to achieve. So the option to have personalized notes to go with your exercises would be awesome.
- An option to throw together your own meal plan. It was great when they added the various meal plans to WorkoutPlannerGymTracker , but I personally don’t follow any of those. Right now, I use myfitnesspal for meal tracking, but it would be a great addition for this one!

Great App for Workout Ideas

While using WorkoutPlannerGymTracker, I noticed that the morning after, I felt a little sore. This probably means that I am using muscles that I am not used to using frequently, thus working out more effectively. I liked that I was able to target a certain muscle/part of my body. With the demos, I was even more certain that I was doing the sets accurately. Since they used a real life human to do demos and included short descriptions of what to do, the workouts were a lot easier to do. I will mention, however, the workouts were not kept track of, so I was unable to refer back to workouts that I liked unless I remembered what they were. A lot of the workouts are locked and not available for the free trial users, but I thought they were enough to keep me busy. Overall, I would recommend WorkoutPlannerGymTracker for anyone wanting to be able to target specific areas to workout.

My favorite.

I’ve had WorkoutPlannerGymTracker downloaded on my phone for at least three years at this point. It helps me fill in the gaps when I need to return to the fundamentals, break a plateau, or need a new exercise to add in to a routine. I’ve always been athletic and in good shape but WorkoutPlannerGymTracker helps assist along the way as needed. I’ve never had any issues with any version of WorkoutPlannerGymTracker . Today is the day I decided to actually start paying for WorkoutPlannerGymTracker (the free version has always been enough) so I can use the built in workout routines and by glancing at the routines section, I feel like this could help A LOT of people who are trying to recomp or who are just getting started. Please download WorkoutPlannerGymTracker. It is better than any of the others.

Close to being good

WorkoutPlannerGymTracker is good overall but limiting in a couple of important ways:
The first is an annoying problem of a small bug that causes WorkoutPlannerGymTracker to either crash or return to the beginning of a workout should I need to skip an exercise and try to come back to it later.
The second is a much larger issue of lack of workouts within each program. Most of the programs have one or two (sometimes three or four) days of various activities. This means, for example, after you’ve completed the second day of “Mass Gains option 1” then you either have to repeat the day one activities or find a totally different program.

WorkoutPlannerGymTracker would be FANTASTIC if there were more days of workouts within each preset program. Lack of variety creates plateaus and boredom and asymmetric results. Please consider making these changes and I would gladly rate 5 stars

Not Fancy, Does The Basic Job

I’ve had WorkoutPlannerGymTracker for about 2 years. I like it. It does the job as far as allowing me to build my workout routine for each day, allowing for supersets, and timing. That’s where it ends. Yes it allows for supersets but it does not allow for Giant sets. If you’re a beginner WorkoutPlannerGymTracker will work for you but if you are a veteran/advanced lifter, this may not work for you. The exercise database is grossly under represented. You quickly find that you have to substitute some exercises for others, and/or make small notes in your program to remember to do the correct exercise you initially intended to add. Customer service is responsive but not open to suggestions to make WorkoutPlannerGymTracker better. Whenever I submit a question or suggestion, I get the same canned 2 responses from the “representative”. If you need an app to get you on the wagon, this will suffice but only for a short time. There are other apps out there that are similar to this one but have more features, more to their exercise database, and it syncs with your Apple Watch and Activity App. For a free app, it will work but to pay what they are asking for such limited options and features, definitely not at all worth it.

The best workout app I’ve used.

WorkoutPlannerGymTracker is the real deal! You can use it absolutely for free and build yourself workouts or use the built in workouts, I chose to purchase the premium plan and it was the best decision I made! They are all specifically tailored for my specific need and includes everything I needed to get in shape and finally after years of trying achieving my goal!

I especially like editing a plan and adding more exercises that I like, it allows me to concentrate on my goals, there’s everything I needed, with explanations about doing all the the exercises correctly, all other apps either cost too much or doesn’t have all the features I need but this one is just perfect, another nice touch is the progress tab where you can see how many workouts you completed, I find that very motivating.

I used to use other apps but I never got anywhere, after choosing the fat off muscle on program I gained 6 lbs of pure muscle in just two months as well as shedding a lot of fat, the program guides you toward your goal and changes over time as you get stronger to always push you forward to make sure you get to the goal.

WorkoutPlannerGymTracker has motivated me to change my life and made it easy for me to stick to the plan. If you’re like me and never had the will power to stick to your plan I suggest you try WorkoutPlannerGymTracker, It will also change your life.

WOW!!

I'm giving WorkoutPlannerGymTracker 5 stars because it's really worth every penny! I've been in the gym for 4 years and I've seen great results but needed to push myself further to have that sculpted fit look. WorkoutPlannerGymTracker is perfect. I can choose from programs already put together that target my goals and how often I should be doing them. Each program is designed for beginners or regular gym goers and I like that you can copy the workouts and edit them to fit you even more! Half of these workouts I didn't even know how to do but they each have pics or video settings so you can watch proper form & technique. You can also record & keep track of each workout to keep log of your progress. Overall, very happy with WorkoutPlannerGymTracker! Very easy to navigate too.

Very Detailed

WorkoutPlannerGymTracker has so much detail in it. It allows you pin point exactly which muscles you want to work and gives you different workouts that target that muscle group. Allowing you to build your own workout for the day. It also has workout plans that are structured for you if just getting into working out or just like a pre made structured workout. This contains different types of dieting plans for people looking for certain outcomes. Some of these features are locked behind a pay wall, but there is an option for lifetime access that is only a 1-time fee that is not very expensive at all. I love WorkoutPlannerGymTracker after only a few weeks of use and I will continue to use it as my go-to workout app.
