Only 10 tests. Just enough to get you in trouble.

App only lets you do 10 tests (which it counts ANY detection of movement as a test) before requiring you to purchase the Pro version.

I can’t review it for accuracy, but all the niceties are Pro version only. All the trial does is test this app and wow/flutter, which, if it’s accurate, is pretty good, but I doubt it takes phone weight/case weight into account since it never asks. Also, In the trial version, there’s no green light to tell you you’re in the sweet spot, but you don’t really need it, just like RPM.

Print out a stroboscope and use one of the several strobe apps that lets you select frequency (60Hz in US, 50Hz elsewhere in case you’re wondering). If I was relying ONLY on RPM, I’d be screwed because right now, my TT is way too slow, thanks to RPM making me think I should play with the speed.

Unusable app now?

When I first downloaded RPM location I was able to use it with voiceover but apparently some changes have made it completely unusable. There are settings that may fix that issue but they require payment, and I will not pay for an app until I can verify that it will work with voiceover. What needs to happen is extra features need to be in abled for a certain number of days or tests or something similar so everything can be evaluated for blind accessibility before I am asked to pay for an application that I may not even be able to use. Having these extra features require payment when they benefit the makers of the application more than a benefit the users of the application also seems suspect.

Barely gives you enough time to check if it’s accurate then slaps you with a $15 purchase screen

10 trials is nowhere near enough and not to mention the stupid menus that pop up in the middle of the test, not enough time to even use the trials, horrible app, and $15 is a ridiculous price point, absolutely insane that you charge anyone this much money for something this minuscule

Good, but trial is way too limited and the full version costs way too much

RPM is pretty good, as far as I can tell. It’s really easy to use and doesn’t require as much effort as a stroboscope; just put your phone on a roll of tape above your turntable’s spindle and go. However, it’s extremely limited on the free version, with only 10 tests for 33 this app and, confusingly, no way to calibrate RPM . Like another reviewer said, 10 tests is just enough to potentially get you into trouble if you don’t know what you’re doing. I have no qualms with paying for a good app, but 15 dollars for the full version is way too much for an app I’d rarely use. If you aren’t constantly adjusting the speed on turntables, just print out a stroboscope disk and get a stroboscope app. It takes a little more effort but it’s completely free.

Can’t tell if it’s worth anything!

Downloaded the free version to test before spending 4.99. It looks like it wants to work but you’re locked out of almost everything including the readout which locks after 20 seconds. Even worse it continuously goes to advertisements before that 20 seconds, like in 5 to 10 seconds so it’s not possible to even see if your table is stable. Thumbs down.

Bought the app still having issues

When I was using the trial it was working fine. I’d place it at the center of my TT and it would show me my results. However, once I purchased the full version, it stopped showing me my results. I’ve tried recalibrating various times but RPM has unfortunately become completely useless to me :(

One complaint

Great app. My one complaint is that after an extended time watching my phone spin around on the platter while monitoring the display I was definitely wanting to barf, and the feeling did not go away for 90 minutes. Vertigo inducing, but does what it’s supposed to.

Nice

Minor update to my previous review, and back from 5 to 4 star. I can’t understand why are variations in speed measurements between devices so great? My iPhone 8 plus show 33,40 and iPhone SE 33,31 this app, while strobe dots on my Technics 1210 are spot on (should be 33,33). When I slow turntable a bit, so that app measures 33,33 it is clearly slow which can be seen just by observing strobe dots on the platter. Wow/flutter is ok, very low measurements ... Could RPM be more precise, or is it up to the phones and OS-es?

Need More Trials

I noticed my record player was playing my vinyls about a pitch too low, downloaded RPM and proceeded to fine tune it for 30 minutes. You can imagine why 10 trials is too short so I paid for the full version. It definitely got the job done and I will be using it forever, but around 15-20 trials would be much easier in my opinion.

Fix that pitch with RPM!

Thanks to Philip for an outstanding app. Noticed en entire LP album was a little too high in pitch. Searched for an app to help me fix this issue and then after many tries this app fixed it, wow thanks again!

Amazing app

My record player was playing albums slightly too fast. This gave me the ability to recalibrate my record player so that I can enjoy my music again. Easy to use and accurate.

Better than any strobe disc!

As a professional servicer of turntables and record changers, I find RPM to be more valuable than any other on my phone. Incredibly accurate, and far easier to use than older methods of measuring speed, wow, and flutter.

Nice, but let it run for a bit

RPM is good, although I highly recommend running in calibration mode first. Before I did that on a rega rp3, it was reading way faster than the strobe disk, but once auto calibrated it was quite close. This is with an iPhone XR.

I’m still a bit confused about wow and flutter and the circular trace it does. My sense is that it it showing unevenness in rotation and platter flatness, but for wow and flutter the relevant thing is what is happening where the needle touches the record. I’m, not sure if this w&F measure is comparable to what other folks measure. I did take heart, though, that my W&F readings were generally around .2, which seems to be about what most turntables in the database show...but I have no idea if other TT measurement systems would come up with the same number.

Great App!

It was both fun and informative to check my turntable speed. The wow and flutter information is really interesting to see. Super easy to use- just place your phone on the turntable, and start it up. There is even an option that rotates the display so that you can read it while it's turning!

Helped me fix my AT-LP60

Note: I did go straight to upgrading RPM for $3

I know it's a bargain player, but I was quite bummed when I noticed my records were playing a bit too fast at 45rpm. this app confirmed my suspicions, showing me that is was playing 5% too fast. Took me about two minutes to tweak the motor speed and now it's back to working perfectly.

$15?!

Wish wasn’t so expensive.
Looks good but very few people but for repair techs could justify 15 bucks. I still give it 5 stars because the trial gave me a chance to see how good it is. BUT I needed more than 10 uses to actually fix my turntable. Oh well, it was free.I was thinking that if I did fix it, how often would use it again, if ever?

Thanks

Essential App For Record Enthusiasts

I have multiple turntables and am always repairing and upgrading my players. I needed to verify my turntable speed and buying a laser system was too expensive. I used RPM and found it fulfills all my needs. Easy to use and data can even be stabilized while spinning for easy reading. My advice is to get the upgrade to unlock all the features. My tip: place a cup on the center of your turntable and put the phone on top. Love RPM!

Extremely useful

I have several turntables of varying age, and some of them are not in working order. I’ve been repairing them but testing the this app was kinda hard - until I got RPM. Much easier to use than my old jerryrigged this app meter: place the phone down and it does the rest. I would also suggest upgrading to the paid version, for more detail, if you’re doing something similar to me; if you’re just checking your turntable then I think the ad-supported version is fine. Would recommend.

Great App, priced right!

This is really a great app and saved me a lot of money!! Still running my cheap 15 year old Pro-ject 1.2 and am always thinking about getting that Rega, VPI, or fancy Sota. Well just replaced the cartridge for the 6th or 7th time, cleaned the not quite worn out belt and adjusted the motor “suspension” yet again.

Never had the guts to measure the speed before so printed a few strobe discs and found it runs a hair fast with a little wow. Not fully convinced came across a turntable review that mentioned an iPhone speed app, who knew?! Well my table measures .24% fast and .14 - .2% w&f. Better yet, the graph looks as good or better than most Regas in the new database! New respect for my tired old table which I will keep going and put my money into records!!

Thank you Philip!

A suggestion and recommendation :
- It would be nice to see the entire captured graph
- I get better w&f with a comparable weight placed opposite on the platter. I used a shot glass.

Easy to use and accurate

I heard about RPM from the YouTuber techmoan and he gave it a glowing review so I had to try it out and it works. If not only works but it works really well. Easier to use then a stroboscope or a strobe disc.

Features

See the RPM speed variations, know as wow/flutter, of your turntable in real time graphics like you've never seen before, continuous display makes it easy to make adjustments as necessary if your turntable allows it.

The UNIQUE feature of RPM is that it shows a scrolling graph of the rpm accuracy variation over time, this shows wow/flutter effects, especially those associated with the turntable not being level, belt wear, etc.

There are many ways of testing the average RPM of your turntable, some turntables even have this built in, however there is no other practical way of showing the wow/flutter variation over time than RPM.

The RPM realtime display is reliant on the iPhones gyroscope accuracy, if you suspect yours isn't quite right then you can now use Calibration Mode to auto test and then apply any necessary correction in real time.

This auto calibration uses the compass to count the turntable revolutions, if you have an older iPhone (not iPhone 6S or newer) then this may be unreliable, in this case you can still add your own multiplier if you have done an independent calibration.
