I have been a player in Design Home since September of 2018. I have seen it go from Crowdstar, to Glu Mobile, to Electronic Arts and now I feel as if it has changed hands again due to the change in atmosphere while playing. For a game being around for over 7 years, you would think one of those big corp giants could figure out how to make the game better but NO. Each new owner is out for a piece of the $$ Pie. This game is all about getting the money away from the players by selling over bright and hard to match garish décor items that are over the top expensive. The prizes that are offered for completing a challenge are what seems to be items that are not moving in the vast inventory that the game supports. They are not what I would consider an award but a way for the game designers to showcase items that are not being looked at by customers IRL. The game has a platform that is linked to the game called Inspired. This is a place where you can purchase real furnishings and decor to be shipped to a customer, also allowing you to earn diamonds for the game with these, Real Life purchases. As for the My Home feature, this is a feature that was poorly designed and could use a revamp.
In the beginning of my game play, back in 2018, I fell in love with the concept of this game and the thoughts of designing a home. This was quickly shattered by the amounts of cash I would need to spend in order to try for the ever elusive 5.00 score that would help support my game play addiction. Just this last December 2023, I became so disgusted with my beautiful rooms scoring under a 4.0 and not earning anything, I deleted my game and account and started a series of tests to see if the game could be played without spending a cent. I ran into several road blocks in the beginning phase of the game, causing me to delete and restart the game several times to see if the intro could be played without spending. There is only one possible way to advance through the intro but it sets you at the lowest possible rating in the game, nothing that will ever elevate your score or prize earnings. This is the buy as cheap as offered plan that fills your inventory with as much as you can for as cheap as possible. You will have some nice rooms with no decor and your score will be low and it will take much longer to complete the intro but it will give you more pieces to complete rooms as well as allow you to store up decor for the moment you level up into the real game. This method is not a designers choice but a game survival method.
After this discovery, I decided that I still wanted to play but it would have to be my way. This brings me to today, Feb-18-2024. I play when I see a furniture piece I would like to include in my inventory. I start with the requirements and see if there is anything in my inventory that will fill that spot. If I have just one of the requirements, the room revolves around that piece and what can I use to make it work. I use what ever I have in inventory to fill the bubbles in the room and make it look good. If a decorator piece is off color or stands out, I just remove it and leave it out. Those over bright items in a calm room are just a distraction like a pimple on your face.
Now to address the My Home issue. Here is my idea that I pitched to Glu Mobile when it first came out and several times after. Currently it costs 12 to 15 home points to enter a room. Each challenge submitted earns you one point. If I have to strip down my creativity to one room a day, that means that I can only create 2 rooms in the My Home Houses. This is slower than a snail and is not, IMO, a solution. When you enter your room for the first time, you receive 250 gold and after 3 rooms you get a prize, when in actuality, you are entering 48 rooms of furnishings just for the chance to open one of those decor items. OVER THE TOP EXPENSIVE for a 700 diamond decor item. So why cant the homes then become open for players to use those homes and rooms for staging and learning what they really want to put in them? Why cant those rooms, once being unlocked and earning the decor prize then be free to open? Why cant those rooms offer more wall, floor etc.. choices each time they are opened? There needs to be a better balanced plan for this feature. I personally would love to have those rooms open, allowing me to place what ever I choose, leave them open for updating in the future or update rewarding so I can be rewarded every time I update a room. Otherwise it is a lost cause.
