A colossal mess since watchOS 5

2022-05-22

Swing used to be my go-to tennis workout tracker, but it's impossible for me to recommend it anymore in light of the veritable litany of bugs that have rendered SwingVision almost unusable on watchOS 5. When SwingVision finally manages to start a workout, glitches pervade the in-session experience: sometimes the Settings screen will persistently appear and make it impossible to view in-practice stats (or even stop the practice), workouts often fail to get saved to Apple Health, pressing the “Stop” but won’t actually stop the session…the list goes on. The Swing watchOS app has always lacked a little bit of polish around the edges, which is fine, but this degree of usability-hindering behavior often leads me to just use Apple’s Workout app and spare myself the headache. Were these issues to be ironed out, this would once again be among the best apps for an Apple Watch-owning tennis player available on SwingVision Store.

Full Manual Badly Needed

2022-06-23

I will be right up front, I am just getting started with app, but an actual manual would be very helpful. FAQ is pretty much a sales tool

For instance, you have to allow app to access video, mic etc which makes sense, but should be part of app installation, not something you discover trying to use it in a practice.

Sometimes it asks if you want to start recording from Apple Watch (yes), sometimes it just starts recording before you have even mounted on fence.. Why?

It seems like a useful app, but setup, start/stop needs to be clear and bulletproof.

Also, I would like a copy of raw match video saved in my photos. That appears not to happen, so can only access/share/ through their app. I assume that I have option of sharing my videos with the rest of this app users or not. I do not want to have my match data out there in the cloud

Hope I will get to where this is an easy useful tool

Has potential

2022-07-24

As a former player and now professional coach I was really excited at the potential it had. Backed by Roddick and Blake I was expecting more accuracy and more user friendly. It has issues tracking serves and the data gets mixed up on practice sets. It also wont let me dial the court in from the apple watch if youre playing a set. Its almost impossible to line up the line to the service line in the blaring sunlight without the apple watch. Not so much an issue at night. App has trouble with shadows. My thoughts are its really great but not worth paying that much monthly with all the glitches and the data not adding up and contradicting itself. This is an issue if youre coaching high level players not so much if youre a club player looking to have something cool to practice with. Will give it another shot for a month to see if they resolve these issues.

Not bad (updated review)

2022-08-25

After some initial glitches to get it to work on my watch, I’ve now used it a couple of times for some hitting sessions/clinics. It sometimes misreads shots - interpreting overheads as serves, but honestly that should be expected to some degree. It also misinterpreted some other shots (volleys as flat forehands, or sometimes calling a forehand a backhand) but I would say it gets it right about 85-90% of the time, which I think is a pretty good number for a watch based swing tracker. It’s cool to look over the data after you’re done and see what a hit by hit breakdown types of shots you hit, the MPH and RPM of those shots, and the other data available to you. It’s nice that it also tells you what you need to work on and what you did well post-session/match. I’m going to keep it and see if it continues to learn my game and get better. I think it’s worth a shot if you’re really into digging into the data behind your game and how to apply that data to improve.

Refreshing

2022-09-26

I am very happy with SwingVision. I have subscribed for the pro version and using it 3 times a week mainly to track score, stats. The major flaw I noticed is when using the iwatch in the wrist of your forehand arm to track shots, it consistently misinterpret serves by overheads. Being a developer myself, i think an easy fix would be for SwingVision to track the first shot of every point and every shot after a “fault” as a serve. Don't look for type of shot or movement pattern, every first shot would always be a serve.
Hope I could see that fix coming with the future version.
Other than that, I enjoy SwingVision very much and I am happy to support a refreshing idea like this is.

So far seems good

2022-10-27

Nice however can be more intuitive like when the screen goes gray to save battery but it’s still recording; it took awhile to realize it was still recording. A “still recording” would be nice. Needs to explain why only average speed and also it needs to show calculated highest speed in each stroke to compare to TV pros. Who would like that? Not to underestimate the unbelievable aspects of AI. SwingVision is actually ground breaking. 4 stars so you make 5 in the next version. Thanks

Worth the cost of just editing

2022-11-28

App is brilliant. I’ve been waiting 10 years for an app like this. It can be your own personal coach backed with real data. I’d give it 5 stars but my first recorded 3 set match is stuck on a black screen and have not got a fix. I also don’t know if the raw video is lost. Still waiting patiently on support to get back with me with a fix. I only got a response until I actually became a subscriber. Still, I’ve used it 4 times with no problems now. It would be really cool if you could tie multiple smart phones together to get angles of both ends of the court. Exciting to think about.

Highly recommend but wish you’d fix the glitch

2022-12-29

I can not recommend SwingVision more!! I love being able to keep track of service errors, score, and an abundance of other data from my watch. The only downfall is that is continues to pop up and run in the background constantly draining my battery...even after I’ve ended a match and closed out SwingVision . I keep waiting on an upgrade to resolve this but it hasn’t happened! Please address!

Love it so far! Just a few things...

2023-01-30

SwingVision is fantastic and I’m very impressed with how well the AI processes the video. I only have two complaints:

1. There seems to be a problem with the Apple Watch-iPhone recording integration. I try to have the two sync up (so that I can more easily favorite certain rallies). But whenever I try to initialize the match on my watch, it tells me to go to the record section of the iPhone app, which I do, but then nothing happens after that. There isn’t an Apple Watch prompt.

2. I’m perfectly happy paying $60 a year for the semipro option. I think that’s completely fair given how well SwingVision works. But it would be truly fantastic if you allowed 1080p/30fps or at least 720p/60fps recording at that price point. Going up to $120 per year for those increases in quality is rather pricey.

A must have for tennis players!

2023-03-03

SwingVision is SO cool to see how you’re swinging and progressing. I video track using my phone with a small tripod they recommend to hang on the gates. I also track on my Apple Watch. My only problem is I noticed that even after I’ve ended my practice on my Apple Watch and received my summary, if you keep swing vision app open, Apple Watch will still record as if you’re still exercising until you do an additional “end” and exit out. It should just stop after you get your summary or realize you’re not playing anymore and prompt an end. It would also be nice if you can view your rally highlights by speed.

What a great learning tool

2023-04-01

Love SwingVision . As a new player who didn’t start tennis till age 50, SwingVision has helped me advance quickly. The ability to watch your self serve, shot placements/depth and footwork ( or lack of ) has been invaluable. I’ve gained so much confidence in my ability to hit the ball harder and deeper and my winning % proves it. I’ve paid $70 per hour for a few lessons with a pro, but the Swing Vision annual fee is pennies on the dollar for what it’s given in return. What a great learning tool and it’s only getting better.

Fun app. Amazing customer service

2023-05-03

I have been using the watch app for over a year and I love it. But recently it had a glitch and wasn’t working. I sent an email to support and they got back to be within a few hours and then then I got another email a few hours after that and they had found an old session that was still active in my account that was causing the glitch. Such amazing customer service!!!!!!

Best tennis app I’ve ever used!

2023-06-03

For so long I had been waiting for an app like this one! It’s hard to find players to hit with nearby where I live. SwingVision has been perfect for helping me find other players in my area who are a similar skill level as me. The in-app messaging system makes it easy to schedule practices/matches. SwingVision ’s design layout is also very intuitive. The recommendations I get from Swing Pro help target areas of my game that need improving. Each week I look at my match stats and see where I need most improvement and make that my focus for the week. Within a year of using SwingVision I’ve gone from a 3.0 to a 4.0! I recommend it to any tennis player or coach!

Ios13 forced update broke app with Apple Watch 2

2023-07-05

**Updated review**

After the software team release an update letting the new version of SwingVision be compatible with watch os5, all is well again in the world. SwingVision is back to working beautifully and is a great way to keep track of not only tennis stats but of overall fitness integrating with Apple health. Thanks for the quick fix and a great app.

*previous review*
After carefully reading the release notes noting that SwingVision will only work with watch os6 (WHO DOES THIS?!?!) and carefully not selecting SwingVision for upgrade, my phone apparently updated it overnight and now SwingVision won’t work anymore with my watch. It’s not even available to put on my watch. VERY disappointed the new version is not backwards compatable with older watch OS versions and now I can’t use SwingVision at all.

The App I’ve Been Waiting For

2023-08-05

For 20 years, I’ve been wanting an app that could provide objective data on my tennis skills. Swing Tennis has helped me improve my game considerably. I’ve recommended it to all my tennis buddies and consistently challenge each other through SwingVision . The social component of SwingVision takes it to the next level. Great community of people cheering each other on through their matches. Thanks team for developing such an incredible app! Keep working on the bugs!

Must have app!

2023-09-06

This is now my go to app to track my stats for matches and practice sessions! I had a bit of user end issues, but I received quick responses from the developers and they were able to help with everything I threw at them! I love that we can see our local tennis courts and other Swing users to hit around with. I will definitely be using SwingVision every time I’m on the court!

Holy smokes!!!

2023-10-08

SwingVision may be the only good thing to come out of 2020.

I’m not sure I’ve ever actually written an app review, but this one deserves it. Incredible use of AI — and it doesn’t feel like a clunky “early” version of cool technology at all. It’s seamless, from making it really easy and obvious how to set it up (even including which equipment I can use), to scary accurate shot tracking and analysis, to a single tap for cloud recording so my device doesn’t fill up with video.

I’ve already been able to improve my game because it’s so easy to see now how I play at a holistic level. Could not be more impressed. I hope everybody at the company sees this: Fantastic work you guys. Please keep it up! I will keep telling everyone I know who plays tennis about SwingVision.

Love it!

2023-11-08

I’m a casual tennis player and I use an Apple Watch to track the score and how fast my hits are. It is very fun to see my stats at the end of a session. I recommend SwingVision to all tennis lovers! I haven’t been able to record a match on my phone yet but the person who recommended it to me uses it a lot so I will have to try that the next time I play.

Blown Away by the Tech

2023-12-10

Everything is amazing, highly recommend SwingVision. However, it says that SwingVision gives you personalized recommendations on how to improve after a recording, which it hasn’t been true for me (using it with the ball machine) but that feature would be super helpful.

Great even for lower level players!

2024-01-10

I’ve only been playing tennis for a few years. I’m a 3.0 or, on good days, a 3.5 player. SwingVision is - by far - my favorite app. The video replay helped me correct an error in my serve that my instructor has tried to fix but I could never see it. Once I replayed my server in slow motion it made all the sense in the world. Even without filming, the ability to real-time track my game - the score, whose serving, first and second serves, aces and double faults, etc. - has been wonderful.

Get SwingVision. It’s amazing.

Good App but Crashes all time. So Frustrating

2024-12-04

I tried so hard liking and using SwingVision. It is a decent app except it crashes all time. It crashes twice in a game that I was playing yesterday (I start app again in middle of game). It again crashes 3 times today in middle of my game. All my efforts in saving data and game were wares and it was so frustrating. I was so frustrated that it made me lose the first set The plus of saving game if ever does not in any way justify the anguish and frustration of crashes. I will no longer use your app and I want refund back for my early subscription for Premium status.

Thanks and sorry

Needs a pause button

2024-12-04

Overall Swing is an amazing app. One feature I particularly adore is the ability for SwingVision to analyze how you hit a ball (swing type, spin direction, speed, etc) and give you a nice interface to read off of after each hit.

One suggestion though, and this will make me switch from the regular workout app: add a pause button. I don’t need SwingVision tracking me and giving me false workout credit when I take breaks. Otherwise though, it’s an amazing app and I’d recommend it.

Good for free app

2024-12-04

I’ve been using it for some time. I don’t have the latest watch (I have gen 0) and tracking a match on it is too slow. My partner says I’m always looking at the watch the entire match. And then there’s the problem where half my practices don’t sync up to the phone so I can look at the analysis. Otherwise, it’s a good start. I’m using all the latest versions.

Great app!

2024-12-04

App has gotten consistently better with each release. Still has some issues with serve versus swing detection but otherwise not bad. Occasionally glitchy on uploading to the cloud (closing app / restarting always fixes it). Definitely would recommend and looking forward to further improvement on SwingVision .

Best Tennis Tracker

2024-12-04

Super groundbreaking app and very easy to use! First serve speed? Check. Break point conversion? Check. Smart recommendations after each match? Double check. SwingVision has it all and more! Very user friendly and just tracks so much data that I never thought I’d be able to track as an amateur athletes. Makes me feel like the pros ;)

Awesome Tennis Companion

2024-12-04

SwingVision brings my tennis game to a new level. As someone that loves to collect and analyze data on almost everything I do, I absolutely love SwingVision. Being able to see a breakdown of my match or practice by the speed, spin, and type of stokes I made is AWESOME and gives me an insight into my match that score alone cannot reflect. Highly recommend!

Great App!

2024-12-04

Awesome App. I’ve got it to simply keep track of game scores during the game - but it’s an awesome tool to everything related to the game - from physical tracking to find other players next to you. It logs every strike you do with your racquet (still evaluating how accurate it is regarding swing/movement quality) and it is very friendly to use! Thumbs up!

Analytics + Social = #1 Tennis App

2024-12-04

I love being able to track all of my match stats with a simple swipe on my watch. Having my stroke analyzed is just magical... and then add on top the ability to find other players like me. SwingVision is revolutionary and has made me play tennis more often than before. 5 stars all the way 👍👍👍

Awesome even without a watch!

2024-12-04

I know a lot of people get SwingVision for Apple Watch, but I mainly use the social features. The ability to find and filter other people nearby has been amazing, especially as someone who travels a lot. I’ve hit with 3 strangers in 3 different countries thanks to Swing! Very underrated feature of SwingVision :)

To trodigrguez: No, you only need one system mounted above head height on a fence behind one player. It uses the iPhones built in sensors, cameras and AI module to calculate ball velocity. No need to move the iPhone or have one or either side of the court.

When does it read the speed of the ball. Do I have to have two systems one for each side and then the players can't change sides. Is the speed of the serve different with the placement of the camera. Can I run two systems on one side one higher for servers and one lower for groundstrokes
