My favorite app, if it would still wake me up

I’ve had YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine for about 4 months and I love it. However, it stopped waking me up somewhere around 2-3 updates ago (I’m pretty sure it was when the sleep tracking was released). I turned off the sleep tracking and reviewed my alarms and noticed that the volume bar was grayed out on all of them, which explained why I was getting the “have a nice day” message but not hearing the alarm. That seems to have been fixed with this latest update, because I was able to adjust the alarm volume up last night. However, this morning I got the message that I had an alarm set that did not go off because YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine was not open. That wasn’t actually true though, my phone was locked with YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine running, which I confirmed by opening my phone. I’m disappointed because I love waking up to the soothing sounds and getting a morning stretch without having to touch my phone (which is why I paid for the service for a year) but it just isn’t working like that anymore. I’m on the latest iOS 11 service pack, so I know it isn’t happening because of old phone software.

Gets you out of bed!

I’m still on the fence to purchase so I’ve only been using the free recordings since the majority of them require a subscription. For the ones I’ve listened to, I love them! The quality instructors and the message and movement together bring a beautiful meditation practice. The wake up from bed sessions are amazing - even for the mornings you don’t even want to open your eyes, by the end I’m sitting up and ready to get my day going. Some mornings that is NOT easy for me! The one thing I’ll point out is the music selection is sometimes a little distracting but that’s just a personal preference. At one point an easy meditative song transitioned to Natalie Merchant (singing “thank you” so there was a message there, but still), then another practice had a song with multiple loud drum sounds - cool songs that might be fun to dance to - it just took my attention away from the practice a bit. Overall YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine is definitely worth downloading and trying. Again the quality of the instructors is really powerful, super knowledgeable, and deliver with a kind tone. I’m grateful for YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine after every session!

Great way to wake up

I don’t like waking up! YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine really helps me to not only ease into a wakeful state - it also helps me to feel really good while waking up. The yoga stretches can be done in bed, which allows me to awaken gradually, stretching and getting in touch with my body, so that I start my day energized in mind and body rather than my previous wake up method of stumbling around until I had enough coffee in my to come out of my sleep fog. (I still love my coffee, and actually get to enjoy it more now that I’m not relying on it alone to wake me up). I like the variety of teachers and sessions provided. I’ve gone through them and selected my favorites that I use each morning. I’m next going to explore the variety of meditations they have that can be used not only in the morning, but also throughout the day. I love YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine!

Great tool/needs improvements

I love that I can set different alarms for different days and that there are a lot of different guides sessions to choose from.

I dislike that YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine can’t be running in the background to work. I also dislike that I have to actively open YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine for the alarm to work. This has been especially problematic since YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine has crashed while I slept the last several nights. Getting a push notification in the morning telling me that I had an alarm set, that didn’t go off because YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine was closed, is not helpful. Doubly so when YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine was running when I went to sleep. If it can be programmed to send me a push notification at the time I had an alarm set for, I don’t see why it can’t be programmed to just alarm at that time (even if it’s without the full guided program.)

I also don’t find the sleep tracker to be useful at all. The minute I lay my phone face down on my night stand, it just assumes I’m sleeping.

So, at this point I’m using two alarms— one that actually tracks my sleep and goes off even if YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine is closed. (It doesn’t sleep track if closed, but it still alarms!)

And then I’m using Yoga WakeUp set to go off 5 min later— which doesn’t sleep track at all, but has a lovely, pleasant & useful alarm as long as YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine has not crashed while I’m asleep.

Exactly what I needed

I have tried so many kinds of alarms over the years: beeping, ringing, music-playing. I always wanted an alarm that would talk to me to get me to wake up. Radio alarms didn’t cut it because I’d sleep through those, and podcast alarms didn’t become available until recently. Then came yoga wake up.

The combination of moving my body and having someone speak to me makes me less likely to try to go back to sleep (though I do admit to still doing this sometimes). I can change up the recordings so that I never get bored or tune out the alarm.

I wish that you could set alarms that included the afternoon and evening routines. I just figured out so I can set an evening alarm to trigger my bedtime routine, but I can’t choose any sessions other than the ones intended for the morning. I know it’s called Yoga Wake Up, but if there are already recordings for different portions of the day, I don’t see why they couldn’t also be alarm options.

I also wish that there was greater racial diversity among the instructors in YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine . There are very few people of color.

Seems to have improved a lot

I originally left a 2-star review after experiencing a lot of problems with YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine , but I’m editing that now since those problems appear to have been corrected. The biggest problem was that the alarm wouldn’t go off reliably, even when I made sure to leave YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine open (something I’ve never had to do for another alarm app). I kept using yoga wake-up, but had to make sure to always set a backup alarm. Recently, I realized that it’s been several weeks since I got any error messages or missed wake-ups, so I wanted to update my review. It really helps me to actually want to get out of bed, not just reach for my phone. I still took off a star because based on my past experience I don’t think it’s completely trustworthy as an alarm app.

Fantastic, needs clearer iOS instructions

I really love YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine! Has really helped me wake up right when I need to (no more opportunities to hit snooze 8 billion times) and set an intention for the day. Why I’m not giving 5 stars, though, is that setting wake ups with iOS devices is fiddly. You can’t just set your wakeups and go, you have to open YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine after your set bedtime. Not great to have to have screentime right before bed because your alarm won’t work otherwise — but maybe that’s an iOS limitation. But I think YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine could be clearer about this point — I missed my first two wakeups because I didn’t know what exactly was needed to make it work. There should probably be an upfront warning about this, not just a vague notification at bedtime, and further info in Help if you decide to go looking for it.

A life changing app!!

This review is a long time coming. I’m not only just a user of YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine but dear friends with the founders. Their dedication to this company and their teachers is truly one of a kind. They put so much thought and care into the content they put on YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine !! They are honest and down to earth people that just want to see everyone around them happy and living a fulfilled in life.

For me, a tool that replaces your morning alarm clock with mindfulness and intention is a no brainer! Especially these days with so much research showing the first few minutes of how we start our day is imperative to a healthy mindset!! Highly recommend! I’m obsessed!

Boooooo! Alarm does not work consistently.

I’ve had YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine for a few weeks. It’s really hard for me to wake up in the morning, but having a person say encouraging things while I roll around and stretch with my eyes closed was actually awesome. So I subscribed. But since then, it doesn’t work. For days in a row now, YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine is set and open and it completely misses the alarm time. I have set a back up alarm and when I wake up to the back up alarm I can see that YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine is open and running and in the front (an odd requirement YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine needs even though other alarm apps don’t) and it has completely missed its mark. This is incredibly frustrating from a pay app. I hope they’ll fix it. I’m going to give it a few more days and then I’m out. I’m no yogi, but I think that starting your morning mad at technology and programmers is totally not zen.

Amazing way to wake up, game changer!

I’ve been using YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine on and off for several months now and finally just jumped back on board. My mornings feel SO much better when I start my day with YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine. So happy to be back on. It brings me into my body and breath, and helps me to keep my morning sacred before checking my phone or letting the rest of the world fill my head with info. The music, the teachers, and the design are awesome. Customer service has been excellent too when I had questions about using it as an alarm (you can hit play on a sequence when you’re ready or set your alarm with it which is the best!). Thank you!

I’m awake! And out of bed.

I love YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine! For years I have trouble feeling completely awake in the mornings and actually getting out of bed. Lately I have noticed increased body pain when I wake up as well. YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine is really, really helping. My mood is a lot better too.

A gentle alarm, followed by a soothing, calm voice and a gentle yoga practice. There have been a few times I’ve been a little confused, but not too badly. We will see how well I do with this now that it’s turning colder and the temperature outside of the covers isn’t as comfy. I’m pretty sure yoga under the blankets is impossible!

Great idea, but needs work.

I really appreciate the developer’s quick and respectful response to my issues, so I upgraded my original review from 3 to 4 stars. However, I am still not able to listen to classical music using the sleep timer on my FM radio, fall asleep and leave my iPhone in the clock radio charging dock and wake up to my yoga wake up because the clock radio needs to be set iPod for the wake up to play from the charging dock.

For now, I have been use a charging cord plugged into the aux outlet, setting the yoga wake up face down on the night stand ( I hate the screen being on, even on the darkest setting), and turn on the radio with the sleep time.

The wake ups are the excellent, some are especially beautiful. I just wished they could work like an alarm you program to open and play at a specified time.

I don’t like or find the sleep tracker useful. It assumes you are sleeping when you set up YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine to play a wake up in the morning.

Great concept, app needs work

I love YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine when it’s working properly - unfortunately it doesn’t go off as an alarm about 50% of the time I set it.

YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine requires you to be playing silent or ambient noise from YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine in order to wake you up at your designated time. The problem is, if I open up any other apps in between setting the yoga alarm/ turning on the “silent noise” and my desired wake up time, it often interferes and my yoga alarm won’t go off. I listen to meditations from other apps to go to sleep and need a couple different alarms to wake myself up in the morning so it doesn’t work for me to only use YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine and nothing else from the time I go to sleep until I wake up to do yoga.

That said, when it works I love YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine. The meditations and breathing exercises that start from the bed and lead to yoga poses on my mat is the perfect transition and helps get me out of bed when I’m really feeling resistant to that.

I really hope the tech improves so it’s easier to use YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine as a reliable alarm.

An amazing addition to my morning routine

I absolutely love YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine. It gets my day started off on the right foot and has helped me break my habit of looking at my phone immediately when I wake up. A goal of mine has been to practice mindfulness and gratitude every day and YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine has made it so easy for me to do that.

One feature I would like to have added is the ability to add friends! My mom uses YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine and we would love to be able to see each other’s progress and practices we have been doing.

Waking Up & Staying Wake Just Got So Much Easier

I used to hit snooze a ridiculous amount of times. Or sometimes not even hear my alarm clock. Both of these drove my husband nuts. Now I wake up IMMEDIATELY and am EXCITED to start the day after using this program. I do choose to pause the recording as soon as I hear the voice start speaking, and then put on my headphones—since my husband sleeps in later. But that’s a very small price to pay for starting my day the way I always wanted to.

Happy long time user

This is a great way to wake each day, and one of the only apps I use every day. They add enough new content on a regular basis to keep things interesting, and my favorites are always there. I usually wake in a convoluted foggy and worried mood, but YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine snaps me out of it. Yoga Wakeup makes a fantastic prelude to my morning meditation to stir my brain and body into a more lucid state. Helps make a perfect start for your day, and sometimes I listen later in the day for a tune-up. It’s also a great leaning tool to learn some Yoga basics.

Great to Disappointed to Anger

So when I downloaded YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine , I played and loved it. I loved it so much, I went ahead and grabbed a year’s subscription. I used it for a while and I figured that I was making a mistake when the alarm wouldn’t go off...until I really worked with it, and the alarm still wasn’t going off. I had recently changed phones so thought I could uninstall/reinstall and see if that would help as it did a few of my other paid apps. When I did that, despite putting in my proper credentials, I got sent back to the free app with no access to anything that I’ve had before. Highly disappointed and frustrated. Especially since I spent so much only 15 days ago.
Any advice for how to get my information and access to the premium features?

Love it!!!

Finding good guided meditations was the only hindrance to my daily meditation practice. I’m not yet advanced enough to effortlessly meditate without guidance and so when my yoga teacher told me about YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine, I downloaded it right away. I do Alex Dawson’s wind down meditation every evening and I can’t be sure that this is the reason but I’ve slept so deeply and well since I started doing this bedtime meditation. It allows you to calm down your nervous system and begin to shut down before bed. Alex has a voice of an angel and the singing bowl sounds are heavenly.

My Mornings are so much better!

I’ve struggled with my screen time ever since I got a phone and have found YogaWakeUpMorningRoutine helps me wake up and meditate rather than reach straight for my phone! I really recommend it for anyone as it has helped me be a more positive person overall.
