Had to drop it to 3* from 4 1/2*. Because really who can get 5* right off the bat :). Absolutely hate the new design - really liked seeing a few days at a time. This is big and bulky, spread out and not aesthetically pleasing IMHO. Also, what happened to the forecast button? Even if it couldn’t always be accurate. No one knows with Eskom as we all know. Our problems though come after loadshedding - because of poorly maintained infrastructure our electrics blow 5 to 10 mins after power comes on. This past weekend we had no power from 3 pm on Sat to 2 pm on Sunday. Any magical way you can help Lynnwood Pretorians with getting that word to the ‘powers’ that be? Now that would be something!!! 🙏🏻😂
App takes long to refresh and you may as well close it and reopen. You should also get push notifications maybe 15 mins before your chosen areas are supposed to be going down, and again when finished. Also when the stages are increased for 1 to 2 to 3 etc. otherwise a good app that I have installed on all my family’s phone - but would be TOTALLY AWESOME if they could add some of the extra functions in.
Fairly accurate. Of course it gives only Eskom outages and not local outages due to local faults etc. Often these happen at the same time which makes ESP look bad. But it can only follow Eskom Push notifications and not local government. I mention this because in my area under Ukurhuleni, the Eskom outages causes additional damage to the ageing network. So that we are also burdened by these secondary effects. Yes, ESP is ok, but way too expensive if you want to remove adds.
Well done, I love your app. It provides me with an up-to-date loadshedding schedule. I'd like to suggest adding the ability to delete a location off of your own board. I always add locations I'm going to stay in to ensure I know what loadshedding to expect. The challenge is, I can't delete it once I've left the location and still get notices. Please consider adding this feature.
Well done guys … ESP is practical and accurate. Its become a household name … households depend on it … whether you are on the grid or off it. My 84 year old Aunt uses it - I just explained to her in a WhatsApp message how to click through to see the detail for upcoming loadshedding periods - and she was able to do it by herself - that’s a testimony to great usability. Here is what she said - “ Thanks so much for that info and help!! I tried it now and see.” PS: how about inverting the little icon that looks like an upside down 3 pin plug ? By this I mean the icon between the Time and the Stage 12:00 - 14:30 ^ Stage 6 Then it will look like an (SA) 3 point plug
Fantastic app, helps me cope quite smoothly with loadshedding but would LOVE a MAP too because I don't know which suburb EXTENSIONS I drive through and as some extensions are on different schedules, a map to identify the exact suburb/extension would REALLY help my route planning (Menlyn x1 (3) vs Menlyn x4 (13) - I can't even find maps on the Net to determine which one I drive through)... So I can avoid the intersections that are out.
I love ESP. They get the schedules from Eskom directly so no need to google to know what is planned for when. They publish immediately when levels are changing and the notification pops up without ESP being open when levels change. Thanks guys. You eliminate the guess work.
I don’t know what I’d do without ESP honestly! The way Eishkom chops and changes their schedule is hectic. So happy to have discovered the reminder function to remind me 55, and again 5, minutes before lights off.
I handle my mom and older sister’s schedule as well so this is fantastic.
Have recommended ESP to many.
Quite impressed by the diligence and continuity providing useful information adding to a bit of planning and discipline to the times of darkness, lack of power to perform, etc. This certainly helps putting things in a framework to the extent possible, rather than haphazard; while hoping that the current situation in our country improves.
ESP has improved with the ever increasing complex Eskom schedule. It would be nice if ESP did a better job of keeping itself updated with the correct information without having to manually refresh.
And obviously would be awesome if the various municipalities twitter feeds could be included.
You guys have done such an amazing job of providing info on Eskom services, please can you develop an app that gives us a view on the status at Home Affairs offices - the lack of info on the systems being offline are never shared until you are number 500 in the queue and have been waiting for 6 hours!! I have tried 4 times and 2 different offices in KZN and can’t get in the door!!
Please help!!!
I have been using ESP since it came into existence and there was not one day where I was disappointed by it. The EskomSePush app is one of the best apps I have ever used and the most reliable! Thank you for providing us with up-to-date and ahead-of-time information in order to be able to plan my day!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Unfortunately South African people must have an app that tells us when we will be without one of Man’s greatest creations. Benjamin Franklin is rolling in his grave. But it is not the developer’s fault. So he(or she or they) has created an app that is not only useful but gives us a platform to complain about the heat or how we can’t binge watch our favorite shows on Netflix. ESP is very useful and helps me to keep up with the inevitable news that I may very well be in the dark tonight. Tip: set notifications so that ESP will remind you that you will be powerless 55 and 15 minutes before God says let there be dark. Five stars.
I love the story of how this started as a side-hustle, but turned into one of the most popular apps in RSA. Since Herman and Dan took it on fulltime, ESP has undergone amazing upgrades and updates are now like clockwork. All those 1-star reviews are either from years ago (when it was a helpful side-hustle) or from clearly uninformed users. ESP is brilliant and the only “ray of light” in the “dark ages” we find ourselves in here in RSA.
You simply can’t spend a day living in SA without ESP! It’s great. The developers keep it up to date regularly and it just works seamlessly. The new Calendar function is excellent. If it could be incorporated with a SAT NAV app it would blow my mind. How many times do we need to drive somewhere and as a result get stuck in Traffic because we move through various areas experiencing load shedding.
You guys do tend to get the brunt of the complaints cause of load shedding but you don’t flip the switch . Your job to inform and that’s exactly what ESP does . It’s accurate and informative . Living in another country that going through load shedding we don’t have this luxury . It’s a mystery as to when and where and how long .
So cut these developers some slack they aren’t responsible
So well done this app for keeping South Africa in the know
So with shedding stages changing frequently , or at least have been , Jeff manages to keep us updated quickly too . Find ESP very reliable and the updates are pretty quick , able to see how the shedding affects us , so I’m able to plan my day and possibly the next day , so much better . There’s only 1 time so far that an update was on the slower side , but that’s purely cause eskom changed so often in that day , and no doubt having many many thousands of users , there’s strain on the servers .
ESP is the only thing that’s been dependable and always improving in a sea of disastrous and worsening load shedding. It’s the first thing I open in the morning if I don’t already have a notification about the constantly changing load shedding stages. I plan my day around the dependable info ESP provides and when I have the time I check the neighborhood chats so that I can feel better that I am not the only one miserable in this never ending load shedding nightmare.
ESP is really useful (which is rare for apps)! As a very busy work from home mother of a young daughter, having the potential down times for the day and even the week ahead makes a massive difference to my life. The fact that it notifies me and I don’t have to go looking for the information put out by Eskom or CoCT, which I rarely have time to do, is awesome. A heads up to allow me to plan meals, charge what needs charging and heat what needs heating makes the insanity of living in loadshedding more manageable. Highly recommend.
App works great. Important to make sure you’ve added the correct area. Sometimes the municipality has some streets on the incorrect block, so you might have to correct for that. Your street might not be in the actual block that the municipality says you are. My office is one such example.

ESP monitors the current Eskom's (National) and Cape Town's loadshedding status, and sends Push notifications when your area is going to be affected.
You can help others stay updated on local issues, just like we do with loadshedding.
ESP will let you know what's happening in your area.
Hence, the app is commonly referred to as EskomSePush.
