We love Cafe Rio, but CafeRio is probably the worst food dining app I’ve ever used. The interface is so counterintuitive and confusing. For example to start an order it asks you what location, and then the very next screen asks you what location again. The font size is blown up like everyone who uses it is 80 years old. CafeRio is also very unstable - It frequently crashes in the middle of placing an order. Another thing I noticed is you cant use gift cards to place a mobile order even though I have $40 on a gift card that I can see in another part of CafeRio ! Also you can’t order food for right now, you have to order out at least 30 minutes in advance. It’s so frustrating I pretty much have given up using it and will just go and order in instead. Not sure who they pay to develop their app - maybe a high schooler as part of a class project? It’s a joke.

I enter in the store, select my items and through that process alone, my order is lost 3 times. Once because I stood up and the orientation of my phone changed, so the application took me back to the “select your store” page. Once because my baby cried and my phone screen locked, and when I opened my phone again, all progress was lost and again I was back to the “select your store” page. The third time, I intentionally double checked my husband’s order by going to my text messages from the application. When I re-opened up the application, you guessed it, back to the “select your store” page. And then once more, I got all the way through the ordering process, to inputting my credit card information. The page crashed when hitting next and lost everything. And all this was within the application! The application itself didn’t crash, so this doesn’t seem to be an issue with my phone. I have now other issues with applications. Just this one. And CafeRio is supposed to make things easier! And truth is, I never review things AND I have a newborn. This experience was SO frustrating it drove me to find time to review this!

This is probably one of the worst apps I've ever had to encounter. The first time I TRIED to use it, CafeRio kept closing and effectively losing my order. At checkout it kept asking me to log-in (already signed into CafeRio ) and when I entered my info it said it was wrong? So, I went along and created another one. Clicked submit and CafeRio closed. No confirmation e-mail to say that my order went through. Whatever, I went on location for lunch. Next day, I get the charge on my account. Whoever responds to the Help section on CafeRio took a week to respond. My initial email had pictures of my bank statement as well as CafeRio . They requested the info I had already sent PLUS a confirmation of my order. I don't know? I wish I knew because I wasn't sent one to begin with but was being charged for it. Lost out on my money, my points, and my order. Tried using it again and same thing with the log-in issues and suddenly loss of my order. You're better off just using CafeRio to record your points. It's worthless for anything else.

At first, the layout of CafeRio makes it appear as if ordering will be easy (like CafeRio for The Habit) but to find the extras you want (add guac, add salsa or cheese) you have to HUNT for where it hides in CafeRio . Also, there’s no back button and I couldn’t figure out any other way to go back. Instead of a “cart” or something equivalent in the upper corner, it says “reload” which will wipe out everything and make you start again. So editing the order is not easy. I ordered again, and got stopped by some “sauce error” I could not clear. I gave up and ordered in person, which I dislike, because the location is too loud inside, and it’s hard to hear what they’re saying behind the counter, PLUS we have the mask mandate to cover faces, so I can’t even SEE what the person is saying. Please fix CafeRio! 😩 Make it like The Habit - so easy to use their app!
I ordered a sweet pork salad and a chocolate flan when I got home my order was wrong. They had given me a chicken salad instead. The flan had bubbles in it and it tasted funny. I called cafe rio and asked to speak to a manager. I spoke with Christian and he stated that I can come back and he will gladly fix the problem. I informed him that I was far from his location and that the next time I will be in their location would be the following week. He stated that I can stop in their location the following week. I did just that and the girl that I spoke with was beyond rude and extremely lacking good manners. She stated that they do not make mistakes and claimed that there is no one at their store named Christian. So much for great customer service and honoring their words of correcting their mistakes. I like Cafe Rio but this experience has really made me dislike this location. Do not ever go to this location 3567 S 2700 W in West Valley, Utah. They have one the worst customer service. No stars because they are rude. The only reason why you see a one star is because their app forces people to give a star in order to post a review. Lame

I can’t believe how inept you guys are! You food (when orders are correct) is incredible. It is the only reason I ever go back. CafeRio (after being updated) wanted me to sign in again. Its MY phone! I never logged out of your app and now you want me to login again?!?! Ok, whatever. So I try to login in but forgot my password... so I click on the “Forgot Password” link and wait for the email which is supposed to arrive in a few minutes. Still nothing after waiting for one hour!!!!! Your app stinks! My orders are never correct when I use it! Your customer service is worst than the DMV! If I ever get the email that allows me to reset my password, I’d better find my rewards there. I have more than $70 worth of free food waiting for me to redeem. It better still be there!!! Fix your lame app! Improve your customer service... please!!! I challenge you to make your business as good as your food.

Attempting to initiate a new order takes WAYYYYYY TOO LONG. Not only is there a lag time every time you make a selection, the user experience is bad too. Whoever developed CafeRio needs to improve the user interface. Do some research and improve this primitive app. Another problem with CafeRio is when “reordering” a previous order. Making a “new order” is a NIGHTMARE, and “reordering” a previous order is just as bad. I placed an order just now to REORDER a previous order and selected “complete order”...only to find the order wouldn’t be done until 3:05 p.m.—which is 3 hours from the time I was ordering. The issue customer care told me was when you select “reorder” you get the order at the same time of the previous one ordered. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? CafeRio is TERRIBLE. Trying to get through to the location to fix this issue didn’t work either. I was on hold for over 20 minutes and gave up. I sat on hold with customer care for a lengthy time to just get a refund. Don’t bother using CafeRio. It’s junk until it gets a major overhaul...
Great app, but reorder feature does not work for me

I have used CafeRio to order food several times from several locations. I have even gone in and saved some of my orders as my favorite. But every time I try to do a quick reorder of a favorite or a previous order, I get stuck in a loop. I click the order, and it takes me to my recent history and favorites list. When I click reorder on a favorite or a previous order, it takes me back to the main screen. It never takes me to the cart. My only option is to re-order all of my favorite items again from scratch. Please fix or contact me to explain what I’m doing wrong.
Also, I sometimes forget to add the name for an entrée or adding/removing extras before putting it in the cart. After it’s ordered into the cart, I am unable to make any simple edits to that order without starting over. There should be an edit button so they can go in and add the name to that Andre, or add sides or remove sides or whatever.

Called in my order- when I went to pick them up the Salads were made wrong. We asked for certain Toppings be left off. They made it with everything on it,when I told them that they were wrong she took them to the back counter and right in front of me she scooped off the stuff with tongs that we didn’t want on it and threw it in the garbage, she then took what was left of salads back to the counter and put new lettuce and chips on top and boxed them up again and gave them to me. When I got home to eat them there was still stuff that we had not ordered left on the salads. We are very disappointed! The last three times we’ve had problems with her order. I was so surprise tonight because they actually answer the phone because I haven’t been able to place a phone order in three months. So sad because this was one of our most favorite places to eat. But it will be a while before we go back now, just too many problems.
I have frequented this particular store more often during the work week. All my experiences have been sub par in comparison to the other locations I visit. During the week the menu is limited in that they only sell salmon on certain days (wtheck) I was so excited to have this location near my office but this is truly disappointing for the pescatarian. Also, I made my order online and as one would think it would be ready by the time you show up (5 minutes later than promised) only to find they haven’t even started your order and they have a bogged down pick-up line of angry fellow online orderers and a woman who couldn’t verify an order to save her life!!! Super frustrating when you have a limited time for lunch. I’m not sure why I keep trying to eat here. So on a day like today, when my regular store is just not “on the way” to my destination and I’m starved to the point where I could probably eat my hand...why not give this store another try. What a mistake that was. Chips were stale, cheese dip had a funny taste, salsa was old, black beans were crunchy at best (as well as the rice) and the horchata machine was so low the all that would suspense was spices ugh it will be a long time before I go here and next time you bet I’ll travel the 20 miles out of the way to the location I frequent or just go somewhere else.

I have been partaking in Cafe Rio for a over 2 years and that’s going to my local restaurant 3-4x a week for lunch. The food is good when it’s done right, however over the past year the ingredients have been inconsistent, what do I mean by that ? Well for starters no matter whether you order a burrito or a salad they both come with rice, and this is where the inconsistency comes in, I have had under cooked rice on more then a dozen occasions and that’s simply not acceptable, have I mentioned it to some one at the location? Well no, why? Because 99% of the time I’m on a very short lunch break and the lines are long and everyone is on a time limit. I know it’s not a proper reason but it is what it is on my time.
Will I keep taking employees and family to the location? Yes, will I speak to the manger the next time this happens? ABSOLUTELY.

I appreciate apps trying to update as time goes on but honestly this one is not it. And I’ve tried ordering only once since the update. Checking the right location was confusing I have no idea why. And then actually ordering was the most complicated experience I’ve had on a app, why is it so confusing to order?? Where are the toppings and sides shown?? I preferred when it would show you all options and you just choose as you go, now it’s assuming you are going to want everything (other than the extras). Honestly I think that is super dangerous cuz one might not be paying attention and could be allergic to an ingredient (tomatoes, cilantro, onions,etc). So there’s that and to top it all off don’t expect that they’ll accept your payment. Literally tried 4 times on 2 diff cards on wifi off of wifi & every time it said something like “payment was not accepted please check if your info is correct.” I don’t understand how before CafeRio would accept my form of payment but now it doesn’t? Like cmon that’s the whole point of CafeRio to order & pay ahead! Going to see if deleting CafeRio and redownloading it changed anything but I doubt something like that would fix the payment issue 🙄

This is a review of CafeRio , not the chain restaurant or any of its locations (which do in fact vary wildly in quality and cleanliness). CafeRio works pretty well for getting notifications of specials and for earning frequent diner awards. But after all this time (at least 2 years?) they still have not created a way to remove gift cards from CafeRio . I have 40+ gift cards with a zero balance on CafeRio . And there is no way to distinguish between any gift cards, you can’t name them or merge them. You can’t tell from the front of the card if there’s a zero balance. Instead you have to click “manage” to see that gift card’s history to see the entire balance was spent 20 months ago. I found this bad design forgivable when CafeRio was first released. But it’s ridiculous that after so much time it hasn’t been resolved.

I love ordering through an app. I have a few of my go-tos downloaded and use each about once a week. This is by far the least intuitive of the bunch.
I lose orders I put in my check out basket when I go back and explore the menu. I have yet to figure out how to use a reward in CafeRio instead of in line at the restaurant. I’m sure it’s straightforward but the warning messages tell me otherwise.
For a restaurant chain that affords such high marks for quality and consistency, CafeRio is a huge disappointment. I’m going to go try the website to see if that’s any different. I may quit “order ahead” with these guys altogether. I just like being able to order while on the go, swing by, and grab my grub without fuss. I go where the good apps and good food meet, to be honest.
The food area in which the employees work at creating the entrée is always messy. Food appearing on the side of the containers. Today, the young man who started my order and put a small amount of chicken on my entree, then he went back into the container and picked out one tiny piece of chicken and put it on top. It made me chuckle to think what was he thinking. That actually is kind of like a slap in the face to the customer, like I don’t care about my job? The shredded lettuce is always soaked in water, and when placed on the tortilla it makes the tortillas soggy. There is a trick to keeping lettuce fresh: put it in a container with a bit of water and put a “wet” flour sack cloth on the top, place in fridge. That will keep lettuce fresh. Then, when you put it on the salad, it doesn’t make the tortilla unedible. These employees should be glad to even have a job. You would think that they would put some care in their preparation, as we are watching all of this as they are creating it.

I LOVE their food but the rest of the restaurant makes my heart hurt. I want them to do better, because I want them to stick around. I’m familiar with them from road trips to Utah and I was so excited for them to come to my part of California We got two locations in Sacramento; one has gone out of business and one is managed horrifically!!!
I have small children and the women’s bathroom is ALWAYS out of soap and/or paper towels. They always charge me incorrectly for some part of my order. The lemonade and/or horchata machine is almost always empty. The Ice dispenser is often out of ice. They’re usually out of napkins and more times than not they substitute with the square napkins you buy at the grocery store. They are so UNDER STAFFED. The tables are dirty, the garbage cans are consistently mounded over.
My daughters and I find the food to be so tasty! As a single mom it is such a relief to have a night where I don’t have to cook and my girls don’t complain about what we’re eating! Please do better and stay in Sac!!!

I love Cafe Rio’s salmon tacos, I also love that I don’t have to stand in a 45min line and can order them online instead. The problem is, the past 4 or 5 time I have ordered it, something went wrong. I usually order the tacos and some chips and queso. I go to pick up my order, the chips and queso are there but no tacos. The workers tell me that the salmon tacos did not come up on their computer that I had even ordered them at all until they went to the register computer to have me pay. Which then resulted in me sitting there for 45 min anyway so they can make the tacos that were supposed be done. The 4th or 5th time this happened, one of the workers told me it happens with every salmon order they get online. I’m not sure if this is the apps issue or just my cafe rio location? It’s definitely something I would look into though cause it’s stopped me from ordering online, and I really hate standing in their line so I don’t really go there anymore. Would love if it could get fixed!

I have been going in at least once a week now for the last three or four months. And my last two visits have been so disappointing but The girl employee that works the counter putting together your order first of all cut me off when I was telling her what I wanted to order. Then she made my order wrong. And when the manager at the end of the counter informed her she needed to redo it, right in front of me and everybody rolled her eyes and swore. I informed the manager after that visit and he acknowledged that he knows that she’s rude and that he will take care of it. So the next week when I went in there she was. And it wasn’t that she was having a bad day that day she was having a bad day the second time. That same day I was in there my boss was in there about six customers behind me, and we were talking about how terrible and rude she was right in front of us. At work a couple of days later. It’s obvious that she doesn’t want to be there that she’s agitated with the guests. It’s to a point where if she’s working the counter I do not want her waiting on me.

Cafe Rio has really been wooing us with CafeRio ’s promotional offers like 3x and 2x point days in recent years for what I consider, fantastic food for the price (it’s not organic though). These specials add up and you get those free $10 credits fairly quickly for the free meals, and that gamification totally got us to try most of their meals. My literal only complaint however is how buggy CafeRio is for ordering. If the order is large (multiple meals) or god forbid, you get a phone call or have to leave CafeRio momentarily to check your map or bank account, CafeRio completely resets causing you to have to reorder everyone’s meals from scratch. It’s been like this for some time and I really hope the general reliability, and the ability to “hold” your order in place are addressed. All-in-all I’d give CF an A+ for their excellent customer service (at least here in North Idaho/Eastern WA) and they’ve come a long way with the accuracy of their completion times. There were a few occasions early last year where the meals took an additional 15-20 min past their pick-up times until they were ready. I’d definitely encourage anyone to try them out, and app devs, PLEASE REFINE CafeRio! Hasta Luego 🇲🇽
At lunch time and even at 4pm it seems there is never any horchata. I would understand the end of the day, (which is always) but at noon?! This has happens all the time. Not just occasionally. It seems they are always out of one thing or the other when I bring my family. I don’t understand this. I agree with several of the other reviewers, CafeRio is glitchy. By the time I actually finished my order, after it disappeared several times as I was distracted with phone calls, kids etc, by the time we picked up our order it was incomplete. Thought we had fixed it before leaving, only to get home and find out there were no dressings included for the salads. We love cafe Rio, but it has been very frustrating the past year or so.

I live by this Cafe Rio and we usually visit any given Care Rio 1-2 time per week but every time I visit this location the service is extremely slow and the customer service workers have an attitude. Today they forgot to include my ninos, and when I asked for them the snotty girl said "why?"..Um because I ordered them.. I tend to avoid this location if possible due to the slow service, sub-par food and snotty attitude of the workers there. There seems to be some sort of management problem and I will tell friends to avoid this location. I have ordered my last meal here, aka West Point location. I usually love Cafe Rio and lived in St George when the first one opened. I can remember when the food and service were impeccable but am extremely disappointed with the last several visits to this location.

I go to my local Café Rio at least once or twice a week. I really love the grill chicken anything because anything that they have on the menu taste awesome and even better with chicken. I was looking to the other reviews and I see a lot of complaints in regards to waiting, I say that if you’re not waiting at any restaurant for food you need to find another place because waiting means that people actually love the food and if you have to wait a little bit to get it you’re not going to starve to death. I’m never had any problems with my order for the food and I do not care about waiting to be able to get what I want.
