This is yet one more modification being written on October 2, 2019. Yesterday, I decided to take a look at some of the newly available issues. Unfortunately, I couldn’t, because once again, I was unable to log on. Whereas a few days earlier, for the first time I was asked to put in my iTunes password, this time that option no longer existed and with the loss of that option, once again I was unable to get online. I should note once again that my current subscription set for automatic renewal is currently valid until the end of 2019 and so the initial problem remains, i.e., I’ve paid for all of the subscriptions for many years, but the new version of CharlieHebdo has taken away every one of the issues I have paid for going back to the first issue available after the attack and has also failed to allow me to access any of the issues this year except during the very brief period referred to before. As of now, what used to be an excellent app is now a complete disaster. Efforts to contact Charlie Hebdo have received no response and apparently iTunes does not monitor the performance of apps available on its site and takes little or no responsibility for the behavior of whomever is responsible for CharlieHebdo .
This is a further modification of the note below. I decided to once more try obtaining the issues I have paid for. This time which was earlier today, September 28, 2019, unlike any other time, I was asked to put in my iTunes password and « Voila! » a year’s worth of issues appeared and I will apparently be able to access all of them.
While this is a welcome change, it is insufficient for me to change my one star rating. There are a couple of reasons for this:
1)While I expect to look at a few of the back issues, a major value of Charlie Hebdo, is its relevance to contemporaneous events, i.e., what is going on at the time of publication. These back issues have lost their immediate relevance which means they have lost much of their value.
2)The restoration only goes back to January 3, 2018 and all of the issues purchased prior to that date, are still missing. These missing issues have been paid for, but as best I can tell, are no longer available to me. My online purchases of Charlie Hebdo go back all the way to the initial issue published after the terrorist attack. This issue, and all of my other issues between that time and the aforementioned issue referred to above are all missing.
3) I only discovered by chance that the problem of accessing my paid for subscription had been solved. The persons responsible for CharlieHebdo did not have the decency to notify subscribers that the access problem had been solved, at least partially. And of course, the Apology which should have been issued to subscribers along with a free extension of the subscription to make up for the access problem has not been offered.
4. We readers have good reason to resent the increased subscription cost, considering how poorly we have been treated by whomever is responsible for CharlieHebdo .

NOTE: The comments above are the note modification referred to below.
I’m modifying this note sent a few days ago to note that I have checked the status of my subscription on both Apple’s site listing my subscriptions and also on Charlie Hebdo’s site. They both confirm my subscription due to renew automatically. And yet, what I have written below remains true. And as noted below, my notes written on Charlie Hebdo’s site, explaining the situation have been ignored. As of now, the situation remains unchanged.
For several years I have been a digital subscriber and received copies with no difficulty. All of the purchased copies, have remained on line and easily accessible. Suddenly a change was made in CharlieHebdo and I found that all of my purchased copies were gone and I needed to sign in for the first time in years. When I attempted to sign in I wasn’t recognized. I found that neither my password or email was recognized. I should add that I have changed neither one of them during the period when I have used CharlieHebdo. I sent three emails in an effort to correct this problem. My written French is poor so the first note which received no response was in English. About a week later having received no response I wrote another in perhaps poor French but certainly comprehensible. When this too received no response I sent a third one written in both French and English. Again, there was no response and that is why I am writing this note. I have a currently paid for subscription and yet I am receiving no new copies and in addition all of the copies I have received and paid for in the past are no longer available.

English Version is in French. Wasted 3 bucks. Thats what I get for not checking the reviews first.

I’ve been purchasing from their app for the past 5 years; never had a problem accessing the digital magazines... until the most recent update. Now CharlieHebdo is telling me that I have to create an account and pay for the magazines again!! What the hell is going on?

When you purchase the English version beware. I just did, and the French version is what I got instead. Guess the new app has issues.

Suddenly a Charlie hebdo issue pops up with an alleged English version 1184-EN (subsequent versions were not supposed to be translated) which I bought to discover later no translation is available even if you hover or tap or do any manoeuvres like issue 1178-EnThis magazine is bold and fantastic and I wish I knew French fluently so I that could simply read all the issues. Anyway, it would be nice of you if you deliver your promise and provide the translation, otherwise it does sound like deception.

Wanted to support the cause and did but ordered English version only to find it's in French.

This is only in French! Just be ware...

Got the English version and it works fine. Just click on French words. You get a translation of the French writing, not an English version of the mag. Better than a French magi can't read. Thanks Charlie hebdo.

I downloaded the English version, but all I found was French. I guess I should have read the directions: Click on each cartoon or article, and the English translation appears. As for readability, on iPad, the translated text is coming through clearly (high-resolution), but on iPhone 6P, the translated text is coming through illegibly (low-resolution) (font size is too small, then I try to magnify, but is too blurry to read). I guess I'll be reading it on iPad.

I have used CharlieHebdo to read Charlie Hebdo for the first time, and the English version works well. For those of you complaining about the size of the text, you can pinch to zoom the print to enlarge. You can go back and forth between the cartoon picture and the English translation pretty easily. I hope this isn't the only edition that will be in English. I'm happy to support the writers and cartoonists, and I hope future issues will also have the English translation available. If the developers make the newsweekly available in many languages, I'm sure Charlie Hebdo will be successful for many years to come.

I found out about the English language translation of Charlie from an online post. Since then, I have read every issue. Charlie is much more than the caricature. It contains insightful social commentary and very witty cartoons about current topics - a great way to learn about current French politics! It is also sobering at times, knowing what happened and learning more about the thoughts of those who must go on. I am eagerly looking forward to my next dose of irreverent French humor. Highly recommended!

I can't speak to problems with the English version, but the French is great, highly visual and certainly worth the price.
