Great offline map, especially for outside of US

So I went for a 10-day road trip across 6 countries in Europe and chose not to get data service (I kept in mind I could always activate 24-hr for $10 anytime), so it was super stressful to rely on Google map because I had to load it in the morning at airbnb, find a nearby Starbucks, McDonald’s or airport when I lose connection, sometimes just by accidental taps or being idle I guess. On day 3, I met my cousin in Switzerland who introduced me to this life-changing app. It has rerouting function which I love, the appearance is fine, the voice is a bit weird, and I have a love/ hate relationship with the fact that it beeps (love) but jumps me out of radio (hate) every time I go over speed limit (too sensitive and many times the limit is not up to date). The last day, to deal with strike traffic in Paris and to make sure I could get to the airport, I still chose to pay $10 so that I could have Google Map. For a free app that saves money, this is great! If I spend the previous night adding destinations into my favorites, it becomes even more convenient. Make sure you have space and the download is complete because the map for France is heavier and when I came back to France from Switzerland, I realized the map was halted only when I needed it the most. Still, very highly recommended.

So close, yet so far

I’d like to see full screen use on the iPhone X like Google Maps or even something similar to Apple Maps. It’s trivial I’m sure, but it’s attention to detail. It does appear night mode uses true black which will conserve battery. Being able to download maps is great, it saved us on our last trip to Europe and made getting around a breeze. I also haven’t noticed any ads lately, which was fairly annoying not to be able to opt out of. It would be nice to have an auto switch feature for the units, it’s already using our location, can’t be that hard to know what areas use which units on their roads, there are only three. The voices are a bit digital and processed sounding, not major, but smoother voices would be nice. The directions can be confusing, especially the lane indicators and arrows. If you’re a Windows 10 user you’ll notice the native MS Maps app is in fact Here We Go. This made planning trips in Europe easier since we could see things on my Surface Pro 4 in larger detail then use the iPhone on the streets for navigation.

Reality is I’d only use Google Maps if they offered offline maps. However, they don’t, so this is where Here We Go really shines. If Here We Go could get their interface, search and options on par with Google Maps, I may just remove Google Maps. At the moment there’s a long ways to go still.

Superior Offline Mode

The thing that I love about Here Maps is the ease of downloading a country instead of sections like Google’s. Though, it’s still not capable of reliability like routing, place of interests, and live traffic. The routing takes you to more turns than making it simple, most of the business listings are either outdated or missing, and you get barely traffic report updates. The 3D building is a great feature especially how it shows an imagery of a tower building, which is another great thing but although it doesn’t cover that much area. I also like the voice guidance they’ve provided, it has a detailed guidance like it tells me to “enter the highway”, and it comes with more languages but the quality of the audio is low which you can barely hear at all. The most I disliked about HEREWeGoMapsNavigation is CarPlay support and it’s been 3 years that they still haven’t implement it but yet Magic Earth already have. This navigation tool has it’s potential but I believe that it’s putting less effort to improve it overtime. It is safe to say that you can use it for your holiday trips but be sure to be alert with your surroundings as HEREWeGoMapsNavigation would not be accurate all the time.

Switch Bluetooth Audio to Phone Speakers

I used both the new and old Here We Go (HWG) app. The new app is cleaner but missing some settings; particularly a switch to NOT use the Bluetooth connection to the car audio.

I often prefer to have the voice directions emit from the phone speakers instead of the car audio system. The only way to stop HWG from using Bluetooth is to disconnect the phone from the car audio (which usually just reconnects on its own) or turn off Bluetooth on the phone.

If HEREWeGoMapsNavigation had a switch to specify Bluetooth audio or speaker audio (like many audio apps do), that would make this a 5 star app.

As good as it gets!

HEREWeGoMapsNavigation is as good as it can get. It even works good for over the road trucking as I have been using it forever to drive a semi truck to all of my customers. Do not get me wrong, this is not a truck gps, but what this is.... is a very nice gps that gives you routes on the main highways and for this reason, I have decided that this is better than Google Maps anyday!

By the way, Google tracks and records your location at all times and saves this information along with your ip address stamped on it at all times and even use the info to market products toward you depending on your travel habits! As a offline mapping software, I can trust this more than I trust Google who also owns Waze.

Apps like these use less data, are easier on your mobile phones battery, and will even help your phone last longer by not depleting the battery by logging your data all day! I know HEREWeGoMapsNavigation is not as popular as Google or Apple Maps, but it should be!

Something New

Last I used HEREWeGoMapsNavigation it was the old one I guess before it was bought and redone.
This new app while still in its infancy is wonderful to look at compared to the other. Seems to be as accurate as Google maps and the GPS on my Lexus. It has a few options that I’ve never seen on other apps. It’s missing a few but I’m sure those could be added. Waze didn’t become what it is over night. Waze was a great app until they began all the ads. That move killed any attraction for it and got it removed from everything I own.
HWG looks to have been improved quite a bit so I’m a be trying it out again.
I did notice that at least in stand alone mode without any internet connection, it is heavy on the battery so if your in a are where you have to have a internet less GPS app. You would do well to have your power cord charging your phone while using it.

Fabulous app for offline driving in Italy

We tried HereWeGo driving around Northern Italy, both with and without data service. It was better than Google maps because it found destinations when we searched better than google did and it showed more of the actual streets when driving, which helped to make sure we were taking the correct turns. Also, when we were offline, HereWeGo still gave us voice instructions. When we had google voice instructions, sometimes they came late. We used HEREWeGoMapsNavigation to explore around Lake Como, drive up into Switzerland, drive to Venice, drive around Prosecco wine country and drive back to Milan. Just make sure to download the maps you need before you hit the road. I also tried it out offline around home before we left to test it out.

The reason why I don’t have google maps

I have been using Here Maps since the early days in Windows Phone and they were the first ones that gave you the chance to completely download entire cities or entire countries offline... offline navigation doesn’t have just the names of the streets but also names of places, landmarks, businesses, the navigation can find you routes using public transportation. Your mileage may vary depending on how well a city is digitalized.

I have moved long ago to iOS and up to date I don’t really have the need to switch to google maps as I can see they’re still playing catch up to this amazing app. This should be you maps app wherever you go, specially if you’re in Europe, hands down the best map around.

Turn by turn directions have been degraded

I’ve been using HEREWeGoMapsNavigation since it was Nokia Maps. To me, the thing that distinguished it was the clarity of its turn by turn directions which were incredibly easy to follow. For some reason, they decided to fix something that wasn’t broken and have eliminated much of the detailed directions that made it so good. Granted their navigation still isn’t as bad as Google Maps, whose navigation to me is so bad as to be unusable; half the time you can’t even get any sound at all out of Google Maps, a bug that has remained unfixed for years. But Apple Maps, which used to be pretty bad, has significantly improved its navigation and it’s now far better than Waze or HereWeGo. Waze is still best if you’re on the highway and want yo know where all the speed traps are. But for local driving, right now Apple Maps is the best.

Great Overall

I was looking for a map app to replace Google Maps as Google has become too into our lives that privacy is a matter. Tried Apple Maps and on iOS 8.3 I'm starting to love it but it doesn't always do justice, so I started looking. I first came across Scout, it looked good but reviews weren't the greatest on the latest update. Then I decided to try HERE. It might not have street view/fly over equivalent feature yet on iOS & I hear it's nothing compared to Apple Maps as they're more current & so fourth but it's basic maps are great overall, though no map app is perfect. If you're looking for a map app to supplement Apple Maps & want to stay clear of Google, this may just be the one.

Must Have

I found HEREWeGoMapsNavigation recommended on a website, and it became our lifeline in Central Europe. We were not driving, so I can only speak to walking and public transportation directions. We found them excellent. Various routes were suggested, which especially helped when using public transportation. We downloaded maps ahead of the trip, and once in country and on WiFi, I made sure I could find places we were going. That helped because locations were already in the search queue when I needed then. It became obvious that HEREWeGoMapsNavigation prefers the local name for some museums and sightseeing spots. So be sure you know the Czech or German or Austrian equivalent of where you want to go.

Great offline gps app

I first used HEREWeGoMapsNavigation while driving between cities in Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, and Italy and thought it worked great! I downloaded the maps ahead of time and searched for and started routes while I had WiFi. Rarely I found it a bit laggy and missed an exit or turn but was pleased to see that it would reroute me while still offline so I could get back on track. I could have used google maps and roaming data in an emergency but so glad it wasn’t necessary! I also found that it did a great job of guiding me along offline to navigate walking and taking public transport within cities like Zurich, Venice, Florence, and Milan.

Better then the top rated maps but...

Okay I just deleted google maps as I couldn’t stand their updated lay out. Their turns were delayed and I always got lost . Seems they focused more on adding new features then updating the actual location and giving voice turn by turn accurately.

I can say between them both, HEREWeGoMapsNavigation is by far the most accurate voice turn by turn directions. New to HEREWeGoMapsNavigation, and after my first trip, i can say I made it to my destination with only missing 1 single turn, which was my fault.

What I like about this, is that it prompts you to make a turn at half a mile, then 800ft then 200ft, which is so useful! I love it!

Only thing I gave it a 4 stars is everything but how about a search function while in the route of a destination. Such as, searching for gas or food while your already in a route? That would be useful or setting multiple routes to take.

Thanks

The “driving over the speed limit” warning and sound is extremely useful and accurate!

Great navigation app

Used this when I was in France and London. Was great using offline maps and was very reliable and mostly accurate. Would like to see more integration into iOS. Would like to be able to submit feedback on address corrections via HEREWeGoMapsNavigation as opposed to being taken to the website. Would like the option to not have ads perhaps via in app purchase or just have those removed entirely. Again this is a great navigation app and it’s offline features like being able to download a whole map of a country for offline use is fantastic.

Please Update Functionality for Collections

App should be rated 5*. But first PLEASE fix a critical glitch after the new APP update:
When I enter a destination, I expect to see first the names of my collections or saved places/Favorites to show up before I see other suggestions from the Internet. This is clearly the advantage of saving collections and places. With the new app, One is UNABLE to even see the names of saved collections. I only see Internet suggested names or addresses that match what I entered.

Moreover, when I click on a saved Favorite destination, I do not have the option to navigate there. Positive News: Thank you for fixing the sorting of Collections by Distance; it is working well now!

You don’t know you need it more than other GPS maps BUT YOU NEED IT

BETTER THAN WAZE AND APPLE MAPS

Think about it. When do we use GPS? When we are lost! When you’re lost once something that can tend to happen that’s annoying? Not having cell service! HEREWeGoMapsNavigation lets you (FOR FREE) download and save the maps for different areas so even if you have NO service at all, as long as your phones charged you can use the map with no problems! Trust me, if you’re going somewhere new or looking for a GPS for a road trip this is hands down your safest and most reliable bet. Also has traffic included!

Amazing offline features

I’ve had 4 or 5 apps that claim to work offline but all of them were either really slow or didn’t recognize landmarks such as “hotels” in the search, or even finding the correct address. HEREWeGoMapsNavigation does all that, for free! Finding destinations was quick, almost as if it was online. The rerouting was quick. I found it to be faster even than google maps offline! Helpful lane arrows, accurate distances and street names. Some areas on the map showed 3D buildings. ( wasn’t expecting that) all for free!! No ads!!!! I wish I could pay to support the people who run HEREWeGoMapsNavigation!

HERE Maps are the BEST

I’ve been using HERE Maps for over 10 years now.
Nokia developed the maps and Nokia phones were all the rage everyplace except USA. I could bicycle through Thailand and not worry about network availability. My Nokia 630 was very robust and ahead of its time.
HERE Maps are compact and they reside within your phone. Goog Maps are good, yet network and battery intensive. Gimme HERE Maps! HERE Maps sip battery power, not so with Goog Maps.

Nokia is now making Android-based phones in China, so who ends owns HERE Maps now? VW / Audi / Porsche bought HERE Maps for a cool $4billion. These maps are what all auto GPS’s employ.

I guarantee if you are south of Atar, Mauritania, anywhere except on Mars or the Moon, or anywhere in Baja California, HERE Maps are a natural ice breaker. Everyone uses them for daily commutes and adventure/explorations. Load them up now, while you have fast WiFi. Next trek out to your favorite boonies, open them up and become a convert. Run them hard, then sign on and write your own Review.

Was the best offline navigation app…

Recently the developers of Here We Go released an “update” for HEREWeGoMapsNavigation , claiming it would make HEREWeGoMapsNavigation easier to use. I immediately fell for this claim only to realize moments later many other people had a negative experience with this update. Everything about HEREWeGoMapsNavigation ’s setup has changed, and my previous download of all of New York’s streets (allowing me to use the map offline) has completely disappeared. You guys did everything right, and I planned to use your app for years, until now!
Please release a new ‘update’ switching back to what you had before, or tell me what to download to retrieve the previous version. Otherwise I will be looking for something different.

Unpredictable start/won’t start

I love HEREWeGoMapsNavigation so much, but it has a fatal bug. Unpredictably it will simply not start. The splash screen comes up for about 15-20 seconds then you are back to the iPhone home screen.:(. Once it does that nothing seems to work (tried reboot, going offline .. nothing) except uninstalling the entire app and reinstalling - along with GB of map data. Try that on crap hotel WiFi! So the end result is it lets you down when you need it most.

Please please find what causes this and squish it. Everything else about HEREWeGoMapsNavigation is awesome, but it has let me down one too many times now to be about to trust it, and I really want to. It’s maps are better than anyone else’s for Topo type information.

Missing a critical feature

If HEREWeGoMapsNavigation simply had an easy non convoluted way of searching along route then this would be the best. By non convoluted i mean. While heading towards a destination there be a simple button to add a stop. You search the name of what you want and the map will simply zoom out, show you distance from the places, let you touch the place you want and it adds it as a stop along the current route. No trying to build a collection before you leave and trying to use a calculator to figure out how far each stop is. Basically copy what google does for it. I dont get why navigation apps dont do it that way and insist on the most complicated solution possible.

Off Line Maps is Great, CarPlay is missing

Be able to quickly download an entire state or country ( or continent if you really want to) before traveling is so much more convenient than Google Maps unintuitive “offline area” system. It also seems to save far more businesses/business information offline than Google Maps does.

The only thing missing is CarPlay support. I’m usually navigating a new city in a new (rental) car when I am traveling, and being able to have directions front and center would be great.

Wow.

Yes. I’m one of those people that does not write reviews because I have “better things to do with my life”, BUT. I don’t know about anyone else—!!!! HEREWeGoMapsNavigation is deserving of five+ stars. I recently just finished a trip that was well over 1,000 miles long up and down the east coast (MA-VA-NC-SC-VA-MA), and this application helped me along the way perfectly. It knew exactly where to take me without needing to use WiFi OR CELLULAR DATA. It exceeded my expectations and then some. Hands down, best navigation app out there without having to pay a penny or use up your data.

Best Feature Ever

HEREWeGoMapsNavigation can’t be beat your able to download the entire United States map to your cell phone device and then use the maps offline without Wi-Fi or cellular service. I know what your thinking when would I ever need a dumb feature like that. Try leaving from a heavily populated college football game and your network is bogged down and google, apple, or waze maps won’t load. That’s when HEREWeGoMapsNavigation and that feature shines the brightest!!! Just one example I’m sure their are others.

Delete Apple Maps, Get this🔥🔥👌

Has a speed indicator, saved me quite a good amount of times, also has offline mode where you can download the maps and use without service (Needs a phone with GPS, some people wrote 1 stars cause they were potato’s and didn’t know that iPads don’t have a GPS built in). Also has a dark theme which has saved me tons of battery life🔥. If you read this far then get HEREWeGoMapsNavigation , definitely worth it👌 (Note: if you’re attended I called you a potato, I don’t care😂😂)

Continues to crash

The best feature by far is he ability to download regions and be able to use while offline. However that is the only redeeming quality about this terribly constructed app. It constantly tries to take me down roads that are either closed, one way the wrong way, dirt or private farm roads, or roads barely wide enough for a motorcycle. Even though I hate the Googles, there is something to be said about their superior products. My wife finally convinced me to come over to the google maps app while we were in Germany last week. We put the two Navs to the test and it wasn’t even close. One question though, why doesn’t The Apple Maps work in Europe?

Romas   2 years ago

HERE WeGo recent update worst ever, the Here app top rated dropped to itself bottom as it is now useless for driving. The developers look lost sens what is driving and what we need. Let's start what we valued on the previous versions: big screen easy to read map, clear street name indication, flexible zoom level, dark screen mode, traffic for sure, good audio on all devices, Storing locations satellite map mode... What happened with the current version: Lost big map -small map hidden by huge assistance applications when driving even when browsing, low contrast hard to reed map in both day and night mode (unfortunately the day map is light with light text on it and night mode is dark with dark text on it, no contrast to see and reed). Map print text as street names, locations we need to found are blended up in just small print, we lost the possibility to increase the labels, to reed a street, when zoom map in the text zooms out -why it was done, how it stupid, the zoom most needed to reed what name it is. The blurred text and lost zoom made it impossible to find a location on the map or confirm where you going. Directions indicated on the screen are using near half the screen just to place the next turn arrow, when it could be done in a corner on the map itself or small corner box background color adapted to the map mode. We do not want the bright blue background to be shining from the big application on the dark gray low contrast map, the bright big area colors disrupting not just the map view but even the view from the windscreen and making the driving dangerous. There no all-screen mode or possibility to hide assist applications you do not want to shine in front of you. The bottom progress bar uses a huge screen area and you can't exit it, if you try to exit canceling all routes, you need to search again, you may drive at the point. The previous version canceling route was protected from a single action, think it should to continue, if you driving you should not be able to unexpected cancel all navigation in a single accidental action without confirming your intentions. We would like more screen appearance customization of what we want to be and see on the screen and what to hide off. And the all on-screen indicators to be on the map itself displayed or to have a small dedicated box -ideal and to allow the size customized. Audio the new version is not working as expected, where previous version audio was well pronounced on any device, the new voice is a funny electronic integrator (3D on or off any mode). Your updated traffic intentions are good but need the right screen and map appearance to use when driving. And final, why are you forcing to be overwriten the previous app version, the one still could be used. We can't stop it from updating once get connected.

The new updated here we go app is Shit. The female UK voices was pleasantl to listen. This new updated app not letting me to change even if I tried. My dog was upset as well because of that terrible sound. The old app when you clicked on to the arrow it would showed you the steps of your journey ahead. Now only showing at the beginning then disappeared and you can only see the next step. Like all the others users commented about their download maps disappeared. You can't use the maps without wifi. It's supposed to have better app and improved after an update but your app just went to shot.

Can't run latest Here WeGo version on Alcatel phone running Android 10, so reinstalled last release of version 2.0. But latest map of Oregon doesn't include Interstate 205 as an alternate route to Interstate 5, a key highway in Portland area. Here version 2.0 worked great on prior LG phone runnning Android 4 with older map. Very disappointed.
