It is very unstable. I start to use this cross-platform office alternative because I have windows PC in the office, Ubuntu PC at home and a ubuntu laptop in the cleanroom. I record all my experiments processes and results in a spreadsheet. Then, it crashed yesterday when I tried to use ONLYOFFICEDocuments in my iphone. The worst thing is that even I am sure I saved it each time when I finished it and reopened the file when i wanted to modify it (of course, because I work in 3 different computers and an iphone). After it crashed, everything went to zero. The file is restored to its original version which is empty when I create it on 9/3. Interesting, why shouldn’t it simply be the most recent version. That should be most straightforward. The data is really really important for me, and it takes another 3 days to measure it. It can be a general bug for recent onlyoffice software or only a bug of this iOS version app. But anyway, I will not use it any more. It is really a disaster. This is the first time I want to give a zero star.

linked it to my google drive and was able to open documents saved there, but ONLYOFFICEDocuments crashed multiple times and the last time it crashed it didn’t recover any of the changes i had made to the document and hadn’t saved any of my work for the entire day. the document was the same as before I worked on it at all which makes ONLYOFFICEDocuments worthless to me.

Thought it was a great doc editor until it crashed after 2 hrs of writing and editing, leaving no trace of all the work I’d done. There is apparently no way to save while in progress without closing/leaving the document, and no auto-save, so it is useless unless you like banging your head against a wall for fun. On iPad gen 5, running current iOS, editing file from Dropbox. Posted problem to help forum.

Update: The only response on the help forum is for “more information so we can reproduce it.” I already gave all the information I have. It occurs unexpectedly, with no predictable trigger, so I can’t do a video capture. That wouldn’t help anyway because all it would show is me typing along and then ONLYOFFICEDocuments closes. No autosave or manual save feature is a HUGE deal-breaker.

App worked fine for a couple of days, then began crashing with increasing frequency. Near the end I would open a document after it crashed and it would crash again as I was scrolling back to the place I was before it crashed. This morning I opened ONLYOFFICEDocuments to find a document I have been working on for a week is gone. I’ve transferred all my files to my IPad’s notes app in desperation before they go missing, too, and have deleted this office app.

I’ve started to use this to write for a project but it was very slow copying and paste things to print stuff printing was alright but writing and stuff it’s slow so wouldn’t recommend ONLYOFFICEDocuments

Firstly, I love the PC desktop version of OnlyOffice. It is sleek, simple, and great for long-form writing and document creation. Even better, it has dark mode.

I was excited to discover an iOS version existed, but disappointed it doesn’t have true dark mode. The dark mode iOS version is activated by your iPad system settings and it only changes ONLYOFFICEDocuments ’s interface dark, not the editor itself.

As someone who stares at a computer all day, almost everyday, dark mode is a must. I’ll stick to the desktop version only.

ONLYOFFICEDocuments absolutely has potential, it’s promising, but it has a few things to fix.

First of all, I was hoping to replace both Google Docs and Microsoft Word app with this one because it was featured in an article that it has a better privacy policy than Google, but it is not optimized for mobile. It shows me the desktop-like version with tiny letters, despite being a mobile app version. The Microsoft Word Mobile app, for example, has a “Mobile View” option in its settings; OnlyOffice can possibly adapt that feature into its app.

I’m eagerly awaiting a fix for the storage location for iPhone. Right now the files can only be stored in the default location even if the location is changed in the phone settings. I’m not able to save the files in a new location, like iCloud Drive or especially Boxcryptor, so that my documents are encrypted before storage on the cloud. Until this update, ONLYOFFICEDocuments is useless for me.

It’s a very nice app, I really appreciate that it can connect to Dropbox.

It worked decently with my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard on my IPad Pro 2020 model until very recently. ONLYOFFICEDocuments won’t let me enter data into any fields of a spreadsheet unless I disconnect my bluetooth devices. I have to enter data in by using the touch keyboard only.

Hopefully this Bluetooth device issue will be fixed soon.

An app dealing with documents should be able to load and save them directly into the Files app (without the import/export gymnastics). Can literally move out of Apple’s iWork apps if this gets implemented.

As a free (and open-source software I believe?) alternative to all the commercial office suites, OnlyOffice does a good job. I do suggest that ONLYOFFICEDocuments maker and offer better integration with the Files app and include into their menu the ability to open files that are not already saved into the application, similar to the “open local file” option on the Mac version. All in all, thank you and keep up the good work.

Wonderful Microsoft office replacement especially for being free. Has tons of features for a free application. Just wish that it allowed highlighting text with mouse the traditional way instead of only the touch screen method.

This is the best portable office suite you can have better than having Microsoft’s office apps separated when only office does a better job in bring the office anywhere! I like open source products! This is a win for me.

Hey, So far I liked ONLYOFFICEDocuments and it’s pretty useful. I can’t say it’s perfect but ONLYOFFICEDocuments can cover most of we need. The best part is it’s completely free and that’s why we’re all here for. I’m little upset about the language options. I’m Turkish and unfortunately there is no Turkish language. Overall 5* for ONLYOFFICEDocuments

This is the best MS Office and Google Drove alternative out there that I've seen. It works great with Nextcloud, in particular.

However, why is it that every time I try to open a file on the iOS app from the cloud does it say "Error Could not open file" when I click on one? But when I click for a second time, the file opens. This is really annoying and has always happened for me.

What a gem!!!! I’ve read through others’ reviews and am now aware there may be some bugs to work out (I haven’t run into any yet) but I’m literally stunned that the developers have so far kept ONLYOFFICEDocuments free. I’m guessing that once the bugs have been worked out it’ll be commercialized but in the meantime kudos to the developers for such an incredibly stunning piece of work!!! Such an incredibly complex piece of programming and extraordinarily well-executed. The human factors have been so well-engineered I’m guessing this was developed by a team of ex Microsoft or Apple developers. GREAT WORK!!

It won’t connect to my Nextcloud instance. The desktop app connects fine, but iOS version complains about wrong password.

Update mid 2020: While I understand the Onlyoffice team is hard at work, it is almost a year later, and the solution mentioned in the developer response does not work. While the iPad Pro has a nearly desktop-class browser, and now with mouse support, it can be used as a laptop - the Onlyoffice for the web forces the use of a limited “mobile” site which has no more functionality than the limited app. So I am today paying to renew my Microsoft Word subscription so I can have a reasonable editor on my iPad.

As for the improvements to the Onlyoffice for iPad app, it doesn’t do anything with mouse/trackpad support, ignoring it entirely. I suspect that the developers do not use an iPad with onlyoffice for more than limited testing. If they were to actually try to use the combination, they would realize the major limitations.

While other reviewers say there are “too many complaints” for this service - I pay more for the OnlyOffice Integration Edition than I would pay for Microsoft - yet the functionality of this on mobile is only a fraction of the latter. I understand as a former developer and current business owner how hard it is to balance everything, but in a world that is clearly moving more and more towards mobile, giving a review like this is the only way it seems that the developers truly pay attention to what’s missing. I will gladly up the review when/if they decide to bring this more to par with other services.

I suppose if, in 2019, you’re looking for the very basic word processor you might have expected on the ipad in 2009, then this would likely be satisfying. It has features like editing text and formatting text. It can also access cloud services, which can be handy.

However, it is lacking any and all collaborative features, such as commenting and tracking changes. So, if you’re using it like I am mainly because of the cloud-based nature of OnlyOffice, you’ll likely be very disappointed like I am.

Unfortunately I have seen no progress over the last year in this regard. The developers don’t seem to think that people use iPads for “real” work - so they give us this watered down version where you could perhaps do a few little tweaks to your document.

I had high hopes for just using the online web-based version of onlyoffice with the new iPad OS, but alas, that doesn’t work either. There are still too many glitches - and showstoppers such as it not saving the changes made - that make that unusable.

For me that means I keep paying for a Microsoft subscription, and keep using that whenever I want to do any real work on my documents on the road.

I do hope the OnlyOffice developers figure out that the iPad is a REAL computing device (with more processor power than many laptops), and support it as such.

Great app, but dictation doesn’t work on iPhone, as it does for Apple Notes.

Thanks for the developer response. I’ll upgrade my rating of ONLYOFFICEDocuments once the dictation problem is fixed.

BTW, I love OnlyOffice DESKTOP. I’ve installed it on Win 10 and Linux machines. Definitely a 5-star app.

Just yesterday, I got a text from someone who had a 32 bit version of MS Office on her MacBook, and who had just upgraded to Mac OS 10.15. Since the latest releases of Mac OS no longer support 32 bit apps, MS Office stopped working on her MacBook. Needless to say, she was upset with Apple for dropping 32 bit support.

So I told her to install OnlyOffice Desktop, which she did. While it’s GUI is different from MS Office, it’s very intuitive and easy to use. So she quickly adjusted to OnlyOffice Desktop and likes it.

Getting back to OnlyOffice for the iPhone, I don’t envision myself using OnlyOffice to manually type in a document on my iPhone. A desktop or laptop machine with a larger screen, hardware keyboard and OnlyOffice Desktop installed is better suited for that purpose.

That’s why dictation capability is so important for OnlyOffice for the iPhone (and other smartphones). I would use OnlyOffice on my iPhone on a regular basis if I could just dictate a first draft on my iPhone, and then upload that first draft to a desktop or laptop for final editing in OnlyOffice Desktop.

Love Only Office. I tried Collabora. But, I prefer Only Office. Super Easy to setup NextCloud. Love that it easily integrates into NextCloud. Great job Only Office!
