They don’t really offer support for non-enterprise users. Wire stopped sending notifications weeks ago and there’s been no fix. No answers. They basically told friends they only fully support enterprise. Either offer a paid version for personal use or support the free version. Otherwise it’s a bad app and people should know that. Updated - 4/4/22. Cool you updated stuff for the Enterprise people again. Notifications still down, encryption errors constantly, deleting/eating chat messages, profile photos going missing. Really pushing people to Telegram, huh?

Please be advised that this application is not safe. Last Saturday I was contacted via email from someone at a company called Premise Health, telling me to download the application to conduct an interview, and to link with a talent acquisition manager from the same company. That person conducted a text message interview and after two days offered me a job and sent me an offer letter through email. My email account has now been compromised. Please review your policies and compliance procedures, since this is a very serious matter. I’ve lost a day of work, had to place security freezes and fraud alerts on everything.

WireSecureMessenger is a hotbed for job scams. I was recently the victim of an employment scam where someone pretending to be a real person convinced me to buy Apple Gift Cards to supposedly buy equipment for a new job. It turns out that the accounts were compromised and now my credit cards are suspended and my bank account on hold until further notice. Be advised that anyone who asks you to conduct an interview over WireSecureMessenger, it’s most likely a scam. I’ve applied for jobs 3 times in a row where they email back saying they’re interested in hiring me for a video editor position and ask me to use WireSecureMessenger to do the interview. You should be suspicious of anyone who wants to do an interview through WireSecureMessenger. They won’t do anything about it.

Recently I was contacted by this company which was legit I had researched into them and all and they asked me to download the wire app for an interview. The interview was text based and shortly after they had accepted me. They emailed me this internship acceptance form which I filled out and emailed back to them. After that, I was contacting the recruiter thru wire app and they told me that they would email checks and I would have to buy office supplies and such. However, something came to my mind that this might be a scam. I immediately told the lady I will not do checks and only direct deposit so she basically fired me from the job

It’s a big scam. Please do not get this if a company messages you about it especially if it’s a smaller company with not much information.

I almost got scammed on WireSecureMessenger. I was contacted for a job I applied for. It looked legit. They had emails and they even send me their official offer letter and I even got the employee handbook. They were very calm and patient with me and they wanted to send me a check for supplies for a remote job. I deposited the check and then they wanted me to wire transfer it back. I didn’t do that and I ignored him and a week went by and then the check bounced. I had someone in cyber security look into it and he said it was a fake email that was being redirected to someone else to make it look legit.

Please don’t use WireSecureMessenger unless you have actually met them in person.

My husband was contacted through text message about a job and they told him to download WireSecureMessenger so that he can do an interview which I thought was kind of weird so we go along with it they ask for his address I said that’s DEAD they not getting that then they started asking questions and as soon as they got to the question how would you like to get paid with checks or direct deposit and he said direct deposit the interview went silent I told my husband God Know best and that people will do anything to get people information…. So please beware-of WireSecureMessenger it don’t make sense to do an interview through text message I’ve never heard of that before. And might I add always read the reviews.

WireSecureMessenger worked well for about a month, but with long conversation history it began to lag. Within the last week or so, messages - especially multiple messages or ones sent as the same time as the receiver sends a message - will cause WireSecureMessenger to slow significantly, delaying delivery of messages or not sending them at all. The keyboard will lag when typing or not show your input until about 15 seconds later, while completely freezing the screen. I’ve tried restarting my phone, force closing WireSecureMessenger , force closing other apps, but nothing seems to work. Love the interface and capabilities of WireSecureMessenger , but will be choosing something else until these issues are fixed.

I’ve used WireSecureMessenger for about a month now and at first it was fast, but now it’s super slow with all the messages that I don’t want to delete. Groupme works better in this aspect. At first WireSecureMessenger was amazing!

I also wish that the text tones wouldn’t be as INTENSE when you have the chat already open. A subtle one would do just fine if I could have a loud one in WireSecureMessenger . And there’s no way to turn off tones or have a softer one when you’re in the chat. You can only have ONE for notifications when not in WireSecureMessenger or chat and when you’re on a chat.

Finally, video connection even on LTE stinks hard core even with good signal. I have been super frustrated with this.

The quality of the calls is unmatched even with moderate carrier signal strength; I love it. However, the user interface/ experience is irritating and needs too much improvement; WireSecureMessenger for example doesn’t let you manage contacts in any way (sorting, grouping/lists). Renaming contacts is also key feature for me since for organizational purposes which is either not found as a feature or I’m finding it very hard to find how. I hope changes will come soon.

Noticed you guys responded to a message back in December (it’s February 20th now) about WireSecureMessenger being buggy. It’s still extremely buggy, messages are often delayed, never send, or it’s hard to type without everything freezing or delaying momentarily. WireSecureMessenger used to be seemingly smooth, and it is still overall enjoyable, despite the constant bugs. Hopefully this will be fixed soon because I do not want to turn to anything else quite yet. Thanks!

I was under the impression that wire was secure. Then I read some reviews. It is disappointing how insecure it is. Lately it has had a bug which exhibits an Icon badge with a 1 in it when there are no unread messages. Sometimes it goes away after a new message comes in and you read it. But most of the time the 1 is there. In addition, the little green arrow in the upper left corner of an open chat window is accompanied by a tiny green dot, indicating a new message in a separate chat channel. This, too, is ever present whenever the phony icon badge is displayed.
I have switched over to Signal.

I’ve been on wire for over a year now. It’s been great for getting to message a larger group without difficulties from different iOS but now there are glitches all. the. time. If I type a message and pause to think of my phrasing it’ll delete my entire message so I have to start over more than once. At this point I can’t even open WireSecureMessenger it’ll stay frozen on the icon screen. So it’s great when it works but terrible when it doesn’t.

I won’t talk about privacy features but the overall user experience. I have been using this platform for nearly two years along side Signal. I even encouraged a lot of my friends and acquaintances to download it if they needed to contact me. I was really disappointed with the amount of negative complaints they had about the general user experience and “bizarre laggy UI where simple tasks like sending a voice message would be like a puzzle”. That was the reason most of them uninstalled Wire. My point is the majority of people are seeking simplicity and would undoubtedly favor it over their own security and privacy and that’s why they use Whatsapp simply because it is user friendly not because they think it is secure and safe. For Wire developer team, please please please improve the user interface, at least make sending a voice message simple not laggy.

I really like the idea of a secure end to end encrypted messaging app which doesn’t require you to share your phone number and Wire makes that a reality. That said it comes with drawbacks. From time to time WireSecureMessenger can be very slow to start and load a conversation (more so the macOS app then the iOS one). Call quality degrades every now again up to the point I have to restart a call. Video calls are too buggy to even attempt. I like Wire but you need to pause the development of new features and squash the existing bugs.

Almost a great app. Love that you can sign up without a phone number, and operation is reliable. I have a quibble and a complaint. My quibble is that when a message does not go through for whatever reason (generally no internet) a more obvious notification would be good. And my complaint: for such an otherwise functional app, there is only one notification sound, snd I CANNOT CHANGE IT. I miss incoming messages constantly, and it is annoying that they haven't fixed this one simple flaw.

Update: I’m revising my rating from 5 stars to 4 stars. Wire team, please provide the option to register with only an email address from within the mobile app (instead of having to go to the website on a computer and find the email registration option). Also, please improve app launch time, similar to Whatsapp and Signal.

Wire has better privacy than virtually any other messaging app. EVERYTHING is end to end encrypted. Providing access to your contacts info is optional because usernames are used. You can register with an email address on their website or with your phone number in WireSecureMessenger .

Wire has virtually every feature a messaging app can have including texting, calling, video calls, group chat, voice messaging, expiring messages, attachments, GIFs, and more. The interface is nice and clean with no ads whatsoever.

I still haven’t found another messaging app with the same combination of privacy and features. This one is a keeper.

I just started using WireSecureMessenger as a fun way to message “in character” with the characters I write with my friends. So far, I’m loving the ability to customize the appearance of each account and have more than one logged in at once. It’s such a clean interface with no intrusive ads, and pretty easy to get the hang of. I’m having so much fun with it. However, PLEASE up the 3 account limit! I would love to add more accounts rather than be limited to 3 at once without having to log out (and lose all of my conversations.) Having no limit to accounts (or at the very least a higher limit than 3), would be extremely helpful and I would likely keep using WireSecureMessenger indefinitely.

WireSecureMessenger is the perfect messaging app with the ability to draw images, send text, ping, and many more cool stuff.

The problem though is that sometimes when you write a very very long message then it kicks you out of WireSecureMessenger and you have to wait for your phone to start working again. Then when you re-open WireSecureMessenger then it deleted the draft you had.

To the Developers: Please fix this bug. I love to chat with my friends and family with Wire but this one problem is too much to handle. I have gotten frustrated several times by this bug so please fix it soon. It really is probably the only problem so keep up the great work!!

Okay, this is a pretty good app. I use this to text to my mom and dad, and so far, this is pretty good. I can post to my mom when she was is Korea! But one time, when my little sister and I sort of had a emergency, we tried to call my dad,who was at work, and we couldn’t! Dad had to come home to fix the problem. So it’s a pretty good app,but it has a bad phoning system,you have to be less then a mile away I think to call…please fix the phoning system please!!!

I overall love WireSecureMessenger . It works great and with watsapps latest data collection policies. This is incredible. Although, their is one missing feature, which is add multiple people to a group chat or video. For example, with FaceTime you can add a person that is not part of a group video easily. Sometimes, this could get annoying. Even though, we shouldn’t let down just how good WireSecureMessenger is.

My entire team and I had convinced our families to switch over, and now we’re going to have to abandon it. I don’t know if it’s original issue or what but one of our team members, is even deployed right now and had to abandon as well. The features especially regarding links, or unmatched by any of the others out there. Conversely both ends are not receiving messages and the handshakes are not reliable. I hope this is resolved soon. Until then I cannot use this. I would be glad to help load logs if needed.

So, I downloaded Wire when it came out, used it a bit but ended deleting WireSecureMessenger because I was not impressed.
Now I want to give it a try again, but when I try to activate it with my phone number I get a message saying that the account already exists and besides verifying the phone number by SMS it also requires me to enter an e-mail address. I do not understand why, new users only have to verify their number and do not need to enter an email...

Things I like:
-E2EE on by default unlike Telegram
-Usernames allow me to give that out instead of a phone number for added privacy
-multi-user accounts allow me to have multiple accounts for different purposes and areas of my life

Things I’d like to see improved
-Android-user friends often complain WireSecureMessenger is glitchy to the point of being nearly unusable. They have to reinstall or use work-arounds and even then they often complain of not getting notifications.
-stop logging metadata similar to Signal
-possibly use stronger encryption? I don’t know much about that one but I’ve seen a lot of criticism about that on various review sites and forums.

Overall a good app, I still use it, but lots of room for improvement for sure.

Sure works pretty well, and it’s platform comparability is quite broad, but the development process is very light on test. This leads to problems of various forms cropping up regularly, and other annoying quirks that do not go away. Periodically the developers change the push notifications system, and they may stop entirely for an update. Photos are never preloaded, and open up the chat does not always result in wire loading images that are on screen, requiring users to forcibly close/quit and relaunch wire to view them.

I love WireSecureMessenger! It has almost everything I need. Encryption, forcing touch ID to log on, blanked out preview when switching apps, and I especially enjoy the thoughtful UI.. All I really NEED is to be able to tell when someone has read or has seen a message... Just being told when I message delivered is not enough all the time. It might also be nice to have the ability to resize the fonts on the message thread.

for the most part, i enjoy the layout.
I’d suggest that you put peoples texts on opposite ends

Stickers would also be fun on WireSecureMessenger

When you enter a chat, everything is just messy by the keyboard. You could have an icon that you swipe that reveals all of those things instead of just having it on display, it looks a bit messy

and when i use “ ;) “ it comes out as an emoji, i think there should be an option to use it as an emoji
but it should change what i wanted to type

other than that i’m pretty happy with WireSecureMessenger

Excellent for group chats. Far better than any other product we have tried. Echo the positive comments about the functionality. Am having some issues with volume in videos taken with iPhones and then posted (video but no sound). I have not seen this comment so am hopeful its temporary (or user caused). Anyone else experiencing this?
