It’s 2020, how can you ethically charge your customers a $5 convenience fee for paying online? First off, I don’t even own a check book - everything is online (square, cashapp, PayPal,Venmo). Second, this “convenience fee” has to be more convenient for your business too (less paper, faster cash flows, better data, etc). Third, the fee is outrageously high. My average bill is around $65 (a single one bedroom apartment). The $5 convenience equates to a 7.6% processing fee. I understand you have to cover processing fees on your side, but get with the picture. A $5 fee isn’t fair unless my bill is $200/month. Either you are getting ripped off by a cc processing company, or you are ripping off your customers. If you charge your customers anything, a processing percentage makes more sense. (Ex: Square offers a 2.7% processing fee and that is high compared to industry standard)
