I purchased the FLIR One Gen 3 to use with FLIRONE after reviewing a digital manual of the device which included very important features for IR Scale and Lock Span. Neither of these features seem to be available for this device when using FLIRONE , even though the manual clearly mentions them for the non-pro device. Am I missing something? The device seems great but requires FLIRONE to use it and from what I can see, FLIRONE is extremely limited in capability, which really downgrades the user experience. Without these critical features, I wouldn’t recommend the product and might suggest look at other brands.
Added detail: I reached out to FLIR technical support shortly after the original comment here (4 months ago) and did receive feedback - but was not helpful. I was basically blown off and told IR Scale and Lock Span were no longer available on this device. It would be one thing if the device hardware limited these features, but that is not the case here. This is obviously a deliberate attempt to limit user experience on lower cost units in the hopes to drive more sales on higher priced devices. If you are going to do something like this, do it from the start and don’t remove functionality after it was previously available. That’s pretty low. And please don’t provide a canned response that “you’ll look into it and review” when there is clearly no intention do so.

The new version of FLIRONE is incompatible with my gen1 device. FLIR’s solution? Turn off auto updates and don’t update FLIRONE . Except those who have auto updates enabled will have already received the newer version. Brilliant!

They could have released a separate app for their newer devices or a legacy app for their older ones. But no, if I managed to find out about this problem before receiving the update then they think it’s best that I forever manually update all my apps. And not with taking “Update all”. No, I get to tap “Update” next to each of the dozens of app updates I get — and that I should do this on every one of my devices. To add insult to injury, when people complain about this in the reviews, they just respond with a generic “please call tech-support” message — as if that would get us a solution other than the idiotic one they’re forcing on us. FLIR has revealed itself to be both lazy and incompetent.

Clearly that’s what FLIR stands for. I buy their product, it’s good. Then they go and ‘update’ FLIRONE rendering some cameras useless and taking away features that already existed from the rest. Then they ‘mail merge’ the same canned response to 100 consecutive 1 star reviews. You can no longer time lapse an hour of footage down to 2 minutes. You now have to completely max out your phone’s memory with the full hour. You will lose IQ points trying to figure out why they would do that. They didn’t just ruin FLIRONE they ruined their whole reputation, company and every incentive I would ever have to buy another product from them. This is an Epic fail if there ever was one. Selling a product then breaking it for you?!?! Their ‘New’ app is a bigger tragedy than New Coke.

And another great update. App starts almost instantly when a FLIR camera is connected. Auto calibration is much faster. Solid update guys, keep up the great work. So happy to see continued work being done on FLIRONE.

So let me get this straight… you release an update that will render my older hardware useless, and force ME to NOT update in order to keep using MY purchase?? So I have to disable ALL automatic app updates on ALL my devices that could use my old camera?? So EVERY time I’m manually updating EVERY one of my other apps on EVERY one of my devices for the rest of my camera’s life, then I’m just one accidental tap away from rendering my camera useless on that device?? If this is how you treat your customers, then I will NEVER buy one of your products again and will actively advocate for every person I know, and every company I’m involved with, to never spend another dime at your company.

FLIR ONE works really well when you first get it. However; once Apple provides an update for your phone the camera no longer works. Also when you call flir one they simply tell you they can’t do nothing about Apple updating the phone. They also tell you that they got an app update coming out for their camera but you’ll find after waiting one or two years and making numerous calls that nothing pans out you end up with a worthless camera attachment that never works again and an app update for that camera that never comes out. I had to throw my FLIR ONE camera away after only using it for three months.

From your original customers who purchase what is now the 1st Gen FLIR One for iPhone 5/5S and SE, why did your update have to render our still functional devices unusable? Fine, you don’t want to continue support for your original product, but you didn’t have to steal functionality from your customer’s property. Why would I want to buy your next version now that I know you intend to disable that one as well when you want to increase revenue.

After Flir One app auto-updated on my iPhone SE (1st gen) I don’t see the camera image from Flir One Gen 1. I think FLIRONE version is 4.1. FLIRONE recognizes the device - it shows that it’s connected and shows the battery percentage, but NO camera image. The developer SHOULD FIX IT. This is a BAD practice to break that was working properly. I used Flir One for years - worked like a charm, until recent app update. On iOS there is no way to get back to the previous version of FLIRONE . PLEASE FIX THE PROBLEM.

The new FLIR software bricked my first generation FLIR One. It’s absolutely reprehensible that they’re trying to force people into purchasing the newer hardware. My old FLIR One worked perfectly and now it’s rendered useless by this company. There’s no way I’m ever buying another FLIR product. And yeah, I’m sure they have enough government contracts that they don’t care about losing a few retail customers, but that’s not an excuse for bricking perfectly good (AND EXPENSIVE) hardware.

Incredible technology. I use it in my integrative medical practice to assess dysfunction and recheck following treatment.

I can’t use the crosshairs to measure any temperature point other than the absolute center. I used to be able to, and the tool I bought is worth less without that ability.

For a device that costs so much money I expected an app with better functionality. We should be allowed to enter our own emissivity value instead of being given limited preselected options. Would be nice if we could select colors on manual temperature scale instead of just min max values. The camera alignment needs more adjustability and should allow for both x and y adjustments.

When I first saw FLIRONE I though it will be cool and amazing but no, first you have to buy a thing that you attach to your phone where you plug it in and second if you are like me and think that you don’t need that well you’re wrong because is you don’t have it you literally can’t do anything worst app don’t spend your time on it wast of money and time.😡😡😡

FLIRONE actually works fine for my needs, but with the v4 of FLIRONE , flir has opted for a support mess. Rather than create a separate app for a new generation of their device, they are relying on the owners of prior generations not to update the existing app, and are saying it might not work. It’s hard to recommend FLIRONE and hardware based on this lack of consideration for its continuing use.

The latest version of FLIRONE is not compatible with my Gen 1 FLIR device. No warning was given by FLIR that they’d stop supporting Gen 1 devices with the new app version. I’d not have updated my app if I knew FLIR was going to pull this scam to get people to buy more devices — and a scam it was. FLIR is located up the highway from me In Wilsonville. I am very disappointed.

Only saves jpeg, and insists on slapping a watermark on all saved images. This is the only camera I have ever seen in my life that won’t save without a big stupid logo. Wouldn’t take much effort to give us an option to turn that off.

Plug in, turn on, FLIR led orange for a few seconds, then flashing green. App just keeps saying to plug it in and turn it on. Tried switching the order of things, tried reinstalling. FLIR’s apps and products have given me problems for going on 10 years now. Why can’t they work out the bugs?

I've used 2 different Flir One Gen 3 units and have moved the offset slider from one extreme to another, but I was unable to get the IR image to align to the photo image. This should be a quick bug fix, hopefully someone is listening.

Every time I connect the thermal camera it puts up a modal dialog asking me to rate their app. Every single time at the most inopportune moment. I finally decided to give them what they want. A rating. One star.

Used to be able to choose where it showed the temp as well as pick different spots now it is stuck in center of screen for I g me to take 2 or 3 pictures of something I could have gotten in 1

I have the third generation Flir One, just the regular one, not the Pro. I connected it to both my iPhone and my iPad with no problem. I am on OS12 for both devices.

I updated the firmware of the FLir One first thing. I do not allow location services and I have never created an account or (of course) logged in. App doesn’t seem to mind and works as advertised.

Angle of view is small and resolution is not great, though I would say the images taken with the iPad are perhaps better than those taken with the iPhone so maybe it’s not the fault of the device. But in either case the images are perfectly readable and very informative. Looks to be a useful tool. I will update this review if warranted. I bought this device for a specific project and I am just learning how to use it.

First, the hardware is really quite good and FLIRONE as a whole is well-done. However, the font used to show a measurement spot is almost unreadable against lighter colors and this makes it very disappointing for trying to measure things. The font size is large enough but it needs more of a shadow outline or thicker stroke or something and the transparency should be removed. Another issue is there are very few options for emissivity and no way to set it correctly for human skin as you can with other thermal cameras. It would also be nice to be able to set a temperature threshold instead of only having the "hottest" LUT which varies, 36.3 C with skin emissivity set would be incredibly super relevant right now for obvious reasons.

I downloaded this software to use with a Flir One Pro LT. The instructions that came with the camera contained only one real instruction: download Flir One app. The Flir one app provides no detailed instructions on first use of the camera nor a description of the charging time before first use. FLIRONE itself appears to have a clean design, but the inclusion of a watermark on every image effectively reduces the resolution of this device. My Canon, DJI, and Sony camera gear don’t include this and neither does Flir’s more direct competitors. I’ve used Flir products previously and the hardware has been pretty solid, but the accompanying software is consistently disappointing. To the point that I may return this camera and replace it with a lower cost competitor, thus eliminating the need for FLIRONE.

Only a couple years ago I only had access to thermal imaging when I could reserve the multi $$$ unit at work. Now I have it in my pocket. Of course there is a quality difference between this and a T-400, but being able to carry such a powerful troubleshooting tool in my pocket still blows my mind.

That being said, FLIRONE still has some bugs that need squashed. The image parallax adjustment only works in one direction, but the high range temperature readings are finally more in line with reality.

I was using FLIRONE with a Flir One gen 2 on a 7 Plus. No matter whether both camera and phone were fully charged, as soon as I connected or powered on the camera, I heard a couple of shutter-like sounds, and then FLIRONE would exit. Seemed like a software crash to me.

After initially trying to make me discharge the Flir One battery, which after 10 days was still half full, support replaced the unit, and I have not yet experienced the issue again.

FLIRONE and hardware feel good, being able to see in a new dimension is a revealing experience. Found it useful for insulation issues, water leaks, heating, even to have a closer look at electrical and electronic components. Where there is heat, there is often waste, or a malfunction.

5 stars because results are what count, and support left that good final impression.

So I have the FLIR One Pro, and FLIRONE actually works pretty well with it. I really don't have any issues with actually using the camera.

My problem comes with the file naming. Every image seems to receive the same exact file name on the same day pictures are taken. Please look into this issue, when I upload images to OneDrive, they have to be individually renamed by FLIRONE , so I have to click through each picture to retry upload.

Update:
Per developer recommendation, update to iOS 11.2.5 resolved communication error. MSX alignment and temperature readings seem to be good. Thank you! Horizontal bands persist until manual calibration.

Gen 1 on 6S. I’ve had the gen 1 since release. Used to be a great tool but app/updates have handicapped the flir one. Latest app version 3.1.11 still has not fixed “communication error”. Temp readings inaccurate. MSX alignment off. Horizontal bands in image until manual calibration. It has been 1 month since last app update. Please fix!

Update: I just upgraded to iOS 10.3 Beta, and was able to update the FLIR One firmware. When I first tried the update it failed because the FLIR battery was too low, so I tried plugging it in and ran the update while charging. The camera successfully updated I noticed the charge indicator go from about 55% to 99% in a short period of time.
I’m increasing my rating from 1 to 4 stars for now until I do further testing. I will update soon.

Update: most of the issues appear to have been resolved by an update, so I’m revising my review to reflect that. It works again for me.

The latest software ruined this now-overpriced device. I don’t see why it had to be “dumbed down”, it was much better before. Battery life has gotten worse, temperature readings no longer work, and the screen frequently becomes laggy or unresponsive.

I’ve had gen2 flir one for a few years now and FLIRONE while not spectacular it gets the jobs done. I’ve used it helping a few things while traveling. Yes I keep it in my backpack when traveling because it’s compact and it’s a very useful tool everywhere.

Then IOS 12 came last sept and flir one app crashes whenever camera is attached. Filed support case and its said to be escalated for fix. I know it’s iOS 12 that broke FLIRONE , but the pace of software fix is a concern for future purchases.

The abilities of the tiny device and FLIRONE seem to nearly match much larger and more expensive thermal cameras. I’m impressed with the ease of use and variety of settings available.

As some other reviewers have mentioned, FLIRONE watermarks all of your images with the FLIR branding, and there is no setting to turn this off. This seems presumptuous and a little annoying.

This should be an easy issue to fix so I’m not sure why the developers have not done it yet. The MSX is often misaligned in the horizontal direction, But currently it can only be adjusted in the vertical. This makes alignment difficult.

And sometimes if you are taking a image that has both near and far objects in the view, the MSX You’re only align with one of them, If the MSX could be stretched, this problem could be easily solved.

The interface is a bit klunky and not very intuitive. Functions like selecting multiple photos are organized differently than Most other apps and it makes for a bit of a learning curve. Some features are not functioning. For example, when sending an image, there is a option to send using WhatsApp. When you try and do that, no image is sent.

Just got a Gen 3 one and am using it with an iPhone XS. There seem to be many things that are in the manual that I'm not seeing. Temp range for example. I've not been asked to create an account to register, and everything seems to be going fine when I record a video, but I can't save them and when I try to view them they only play for a split second. There is also no option to check the firmware. Phone is running 13..3.1

Update! latest release no longer stuck at -50C except reading reads approx 10F than it should be. Tried it with iHone 5 with IOS 10 and it reads fine. How can we trust the reading from this device?

Just bought my Flir One Pro for $400. I was excited to use it as I will have a lot of use for it but when I plug it in, it doesn't work. Reading is stuck at -50C. Just paid for something that doesn't work. I will give another week before return policy expires and if no fix, this unit is going back.
