About WA Invasives

These sighting reports are submitted to Washington Invasive Species Council (WISC) staff and technical experts throughout the state to review and approve sighting reports.

A number of local, state and federal agencies and organizations work to prevent the introduction and spread of invasive species, physically control or eradicate them, monitor their distribution, and understand their characteristics.

Established by the Legislature in 2006, the Council provides policy-level direction, planning, and coordination for combating harmful invasive species throughout the state and preventing the introduction of others that may be potentially harmful.

Managing invasive species here in Washington State is complex due to the number and types of pathways through which species are introduced.

This mobile app is part of an integrated invasive species reporting and outreach campaign for WISC that also includes a website with an online reporting form.

Easy-to-Learn Species Info Images and information on Washington Invasive Species Council’s priority plant and animal species.

Great idea, it actually works!

As long as you know how to use it, WAInvasives is useful. However, its main flaw is not having a user-friendly interface. WA Invasives has a GPS that can tag your location once you choose an invasive species to report. The tag that appears on the map shows a little ’i’ when you press on it. Press the ‘i’ to open up the details. From there, you enter your name, email, and a description of the species and how big it is, how many of them there are, etc. Then, you have to go to the report queue. Select the reports you want to submit and then press ‘upload’. I’m rating WAInvasives 4 stars because, although it has a lacking user interface, it was created for a good purpose. Once you get to know it, submitting reports isn’t that hard!

Accessibility issues- Hard to read tiny font

Just downloaded WAInvasives after seeing a story on KIRO 7 news —haven’t used it yet, but seems like a great idea. But, the font is very tiny & hard to read for folks without great vision. Please use iOS dynamic font.

Great idea, doesn’t work

As other reviews have noted the report sighting button does not work for some, I’m one of those. Tried everything I can think of, redoing the report, waiting till I got home on Wi-Fi, adjusting pics etc. I’m on an iPhone 7+ running 13.4.1 and I’m disappointed, there’s several huge patches of scotch broom in my area I wanted to report.

Should have more photos as well, 1 is not enough if you need to identify a plant you don’t know. And if the description says it could be mistaken for similar plants include photos of those as well

Good, but Could Be Better

I do like WAInvasives, but you really need more pictures of each item; especially plants. There are many similarities so close ups and full plant photos would be useful.

Doesn’t work :/

Two things—first, the map feature is irritatingly dysfunctional. You can’t move the pin very far from your current location because it keeps zooming back to your gps location.
Second, for me at least, the report sighting button doesn’t actually work, rendering WAInvasives virtually useless.

Report sighting button didn't work

Loud American bullfrogs croaking in my neighborhood; I tried to report using WAInvasives , but after pressing "report sighting", then dragging the pin then tried to press "report sighting" again, the second button simply won't work.

Useful tool

A neat tool for hiking — I often see invasive species in the forest and didn’t think to report them. Handy.

WAInvasives is a bit clunky but I assume it will improve. Still usable.

Missing insects

Decent App, but it isn’t current on its priority insect species. Where’s the Japanese beetle?

By

Yeah, no, it doesn’t work

Map function constantly reverts to current location which messes up trying to input the actual sighting location.
selecting a photo seems to work. Inputting data doesn’t. What do we put in these various fields? How do we proceed? How do we upload? No clue. No instructions. Waste of time.

Very useful!

Perfect for distinguishing invasive “pop-ups” in my garden, thank you! I really like how all the information is organized and easy to digest.

By

Can’t submit

I’m adding my complaint to the several who reported that there doesn’t seem to be any way to continue after entering your description. The report button is grayed out and nothing seems to change that.

By

Does not actually work

As stated the report function does not work at all. It’s ridiculously difficult to move the pin and the report citing button does not function at all rendering WAInvasives pointless.I have been trying to report Nutria.

By

Will not submit reported sighting

I moved the pin to the map location, added a picture and description but the submit button didn’t work

No error

I’m running an iPhone 7 with the most current release

By

Could not open ‘i’

Not useful as supposed to be. After pinpointing the location & hitting the ‘i’ it only opened up the camera option. No way to fill in details.

By

Wish it worked

Running pp on 5th gen iPad and I have the same problem I had when WAInvasives first came out using an iPhone7. You can move the pin but unable to send the report.

By

Report sighting functionality does not work

Pin can move only a small area and does not stick. Then report sighting function does not work at all.

By

Overall good. Needs bug fixes.

I have a iPhone 6 running IOS 11.4.1. The text for the species description gets cut off on the right hand side of the screen.

By

Need update

Seemingly doesn’t actually have a functioning “report a sighting” function.

By

Great app!

Thanks for the recent updates. WAInvasives works well.

By

Doesn’t seem to work

On my iPhone 7. Won’t accept the “report sighting “ after placing pin. Great idea though!

By

Setting Report Location

I have to drag the pin a long ways when I want to report a sighting. Add an option to enter a sighting address. Otherwise, very informative app!

By

A pictures worth a thousand words.

The pictures are not expandable. Need a closer look, then you must use another app or we search. Please update the pictures so they can be zoomed in on.

By

Useful app

I like WAInvasives but it should allow you to submit over cellular network.
