Outstanding for a CFI/CFII/MEI/Professional Pilot

As a 1200+ hr CFI/MEI/CFII I highly recommend this to my students as I think it’s phenomenal. I’d used foreflight for a long time (mostly because it’s popular) and it’s what my employer wanted us to use... Then flight plan go. But aerovie is on a whole other level and is amazing as a personal tool and as a teaching tool. Awesome weather info, easy to use, reliable interface in the cockpit, ability to show multiple METAR qualities on the map for airports (which foreflight CAN NOT do!), tons of advanced layers you can load on the map for weather - for teaching, research, or getting a more in-depth understanding of the atmosphere you’re going to face... These really help provide a more in-depth look at the weather as well as your flight plan. All for a very affordable price I think.

One thing I wish were changed however... when clicking on AIRMETs (Zulu tango Sierra etc) it shows the applicable altitude but I still want to see the RAW ORIGINAL AIRMET information in the little white box. The original airmet text information. Also when looking at the complete standard briefing.... the way the winds/temperatures aloft text is presented it kind of runs together and is hard to read? Is there any way to fix this? I’m running a 12.9 inch iPad Pro (on the ground only!) and it’s still hard to see/decipher sometimes.

Was great

I'd give it five stars, however, StratusInsightEFB keeps closing on me whenever I try to view a route from a zoomed out view. Seems to be a relatively recent issue too, possible bug that can hopefully be fixed with an update. Also, weather illustrations could be better. Looking at a prog chart to get an idea for upcoming weather is like looking at a pixelated outdated chart, same with icing illustration on the overlay menu. It's competitive with foreflight to an extent. One great feature that could make Aerovie really stand out is incorporating the option to select "ATC Preferred routes" when it comes to IFR flying much like foreflight does, working on weather overlay graphics/visuals, and possibly incorporating the ability to draw text on the plates or charts as reminders, outlining taxi routes on an airport diagram, or circling important portions of an approach/DP plate. EDIT: Looks like there was an update available and I did not notice it until after sending this - I'll give it five stars due to the fact that the developer seems to have caught this bug relatively quick! For what it's worth, StratusInsightEFB is great, just my .02 on what I think could be improved upon. Merely constructive criticism, nothing more :)

Very impressed!!!

Here is my story.... I’m an airline guy just looking for some extra info, specifically weather, to supplement what I’m already using. That’s it. So I gave StratusInsightEFB a try. Just as featured as the other apps available. Obviously a different interface. You may like or may not. Paid for the monthly plan and figured I’d give it a month... To my surprise, it has impressive features especially in regard to weather. (You can read up on them). Again, some of these are contained in other apps available. So why the five star review? What knocked me out of my socks is that I have contacted support 3 times in the past few days. Bryan responded to each question within an hour!!! What! Where can you get that kind of support!!! I wouldn’t expect this superb support nor do I deserve it. Thank you. Anyway, I’m sure this product will just keep getting better if it’s supported!

Wow, top flight planner in my book!

1000 hour PIC here in a single engine plane who worked as a single pilot in the cockpit. While I’m not actively flying, I did run StratusInsightEFB through its paces and all I can say is why is this planner NOT in the top grossing apps in the flight planning searches? This flight planner runs circles around foreflight when it comes to ease of use in the cockpit. Easy to read in varying lighting conditions, easy to amend IFR flight plans. Weather briefings and overview of flight planning) is the best I’ve seen (far better than foreflight and fltplango)

I had foreflight basic subscription and you get far MORE features in StratusInsightEFB (log book and geo referenced approach plates) in a simple one price subscription app AT A MUCH CHEAPER YEARLY RATE.

If I was an active pilot, you can bet StratusInsightEFB would be on my yoke mount.

Favorites lacking, storage hog

I’ve tried quite a few flight apps, most called EFBs despite the fact that most are far from an “EFB”. I like this one but it is a compromise because it lacks the ability to edit the favorites list or a method to save for a long term, a plan that one uses frequently. It is also not possible to edit a temporarily saved “favorite”, you have to name it something else. The favorites list as is, has little to no value to me.

More than 20 gig, yes, more than 20 gig of storage, how can that be?

Another problem I encountered is that after creating an IFR flight plan, if you try to edit airways after the fact, it draws airway lines all over the place which the only way to fix is to start over. I found myself going back to skyvector to create and file my flight plans because I know they will be correct that way.

Documentation is really poor, and that is a problem in itself.

I really like the price as it is reasonable, but improvements need to be made. I’m going to continue using StratusInsightEFB as I watch for these changes. Hopefully I can edit this review as changes are made.

I uninstalled StratusInsightEFB because it is not working for me, before the trial ended, yet I was still charge the annual fee. I would like refund.

Weather is incredible, but...

...I tried it for two months and 5 flights after I upgraded my Stratus from 2S to 3. Clearly, the integration of the two, both now owned by Appareo, had a LOOONNNGGGG way to go. All the flights were VFR, thankfully, as the instability of the program was woeful at best. It crashed continuously! The craziest one that caused me to turn it off for good was a VFR flight to a pancake fly in. I was watching all the targets on screen as I entered he pattern when the screen began replicating itself over and over just before it crashed again. Fortunately, I was focused outside the airplane, but this just proved I could not rely on it and cancelled the subscription. But, oh that weather! Cloud tops and bases visually for your route? Yowzaa! Just wish I could buy that separately.

Nice features, but freezes up

Stratus Insight is really slick and offers some incredible features for the money. However, in my limited experience utilizing StratusInsightEFB , it seems very glitchy- freezing up as I tried to move between different screens. I run ForeFlight on the exact same iPad and have never experience these types of delays. Overall it is a terrific app, but I would not move away from ForeFlight until I’m confident that StratusInsightEFB won’t freeze in flight. I’ll give it another try next year.

Best free aviation app (by far.)

I haven't had the chance to use StratusInsightEFB to its full abilities (like filing flight plans, pireps, etc) but I'm astounded at how much information is readily available, and I'm extremely surprised that StratusInsightEFB is free.

The only reason I haven't given five stars is because the flight planning is a little difficult to use. Its easy to drag and drop waypoints, but it's a little clunky with regards to editing those waypoints. I can't figure out how to remove waypoints, the trash can button doesn't seem to work. If you guys make this easier I'll happily give five stars, you deserve it!

Some nice features but clunky interface

The vertical weather profile is it's best feature. But pinching does not work as expected, at one point hanging during 1.3X resize.
I like that it starts queuing up approach charts when airports are added to your flightplan.
But trying to create a flightplan was frustrating experience:
The map kept resetting me centered on current location. Im trying to rubber the flight path and keep getting thrown back.
Could not find a way to query individual airspace, it just gives me a long list of every one on the chart. Be nice to get a vertical profile of those as well.
Could not add airways.
I personally like text and cascading menus, the symbolic buttons doesn't work for me. And I watch a video, it shows buttons on the bottom, I never could figure out how to get to that screen.

Best App for Weather!

I love Aerovie. It costs less than half of ForeFlight and does almost just as much, and when it comes to weather, it does significantly more. The vertical profile tool is very beneficial for a lower time pilot like myself, as it helps me see and dissect possible en route weather in an easy, but thorough manner. More pilots need to be flying with Aerovie!

I am loving it

Tried StratusInsightEFB a year ago and did not like it. I just downloaded the latest version and I am blown away by the improvements and features included(free and pro versions). I suggested a monthly subscription rate and they listened. I am switching from ForeFlight to StratusInsightEFB.

I wish I could change the units of measurement.

I really like the features in StratusInsightEFB. I’m still trying to get used to the interface. My complaint is not being able to change the units of measurement. I’d like to use mph over knots since that is how my AI reads and to stay consistent with that I’d like to be able to view SM vs KM. Maybe in a future release?

Has potential, but is WAY to glitchy to be used in flight

After using ForeFlight for 3 years, I decided to try some different EFBs. I like how simple StratusInsightEFB is, but even in the 15 minutes getting oriented with StratusInsightEFB , I noticed that it is very glitchy. There were several times where I could not get charts or takeoff minimums to close using the ‘X’ (close button).

Also, I don’t feel like the interface is too polished. It felt a little clunky to use.

Given the bugs I came across so far, I would hesitate to attempt to use it during an actual flight.

Has potential though.

Great App

Nice feature set and generally intuitive process to use. Support is timely and great. It’s unclear to me why StratusInsightEFB does not get more notice in the aviation press; anyone who gives StratusInsightEFB some time will be impressed.

One of my Go to apps as a CFI

StratusInsightEFB is Fantastic. I use it every time I plan a trip. It helps me make quick decisions on route, altitude, and weather. What a fantastic time saver and safety tool. Thanks guys, keep it up.

Excellent App

From time to time there might be a small glitch BUT if the developer hasn't already noticed it all you have to do is send him an email and he gets on it as fast as possible.

Very user friendly and great customer support make StratusInsightEFB the one for privates to pro's. If there is something you need answered about Aerovie just ask and the response time is usually pretty quick.

Excellent app indeed

Best Value

I’ve used every EFB out there. It is coded tightly, isn’t designed by committee and the dev is responsive to feature requests and bug fixes.

By

Great app!!

The Only thing I would recommend to the developers is a different way to show a Wx brief, and the way ti file a flight plan

By

Promising application

Good application with even better potential

By

Unique Features

Aerovie has unique weather planning features for an EFB, which go above and beyond competitors.

By

Excellent EFB with great potential

Great value for the cost. One of the best and most intuitive user interfaces of the EFB apps currently available. Biggest downside to me is the awkwardness of moving Lat/long flight plan waypoints- dragging waypoint to another creates a new waypoint, then have to go back to select and delete the old one. Terrain profile is of limited value around mountainous routes, as it looks at a wide “width” that can’t be changed.
