About Fitocracy Macros

Brought to you by Fitocracy, Mashable's 'Top Innovation in Health & Fitness' winner, 'Macros' is a super-simple macro and calorie counter for people who are tracking their macronutrients (macros for short) to help them reach their fitness goals, whether that's losing weight, or building lean muscle.

One member of Fitocracy’s 'Weight Loss Made Simple' Fitocracy Group Fitness program said, “This new way of dieting was life changing.

This often leaves people prone to many of the typical side effects of dieting – feeling hungry, lacking energy, and being irritable.

With the right macros, you can remain full all day, stay energetic, and build lean muscle to give you that 'toned' look.

When most people embark on a diet, they only count calories, not macros.

Targeting macronutrients allows you to counteract these side effects.

I lost 10 lbs, all while remaining incredibly full – sometimes too full.

Fantastic Food Monitoring App

FitocracyMacros is great to monitor what you eat. It's not just counting calories, which I love. It IS only effective though if you actually DO log your protein, carbs, and fat intake. If you do so, it is so great to see how many calories you eat throughout the day. It also makes it a little fun since you want to reach the calorie goal FitocracyMacros gives you by the end of your day. I'm the biggest fast food and junk food junkie and FitocracyMacros has turned me into a totally different person when it comes to my fitness and health goals! (well along with my own ambition.) keep up the good work!

One thing though is I wish we could put in grams down to decimal points. Some of the foods I eat have let's say 3.5 grams of something and I always have to round it up or down and put in a single digit. Other than that I love it though.

Amazing! But one thing is missing...

I’ve been using FitocracyMacros for 2 years now and the one thing I wish that would be added to FitocracyMacros is the ability to edit the names and rearrange the foods that has been saved in the favorite list. The only thing you can do with the existing ones is delete them, rearranging and renaming those already saved foods would be a very nice addition to that list. Other than that it is an intelligent and a great app, my favorite part is the history and weekly averages that it keeps record of, I still have all my daily intake since 2 years ago! That just blows my mind! I expected it to keep track of maybe back from 2-3 months not the full duration I’ve been using it, that’s just amazing! Thank you for a wonderful app!

Love this app, but sadly not compatible with iOS 9.

I absolutely love FitocracyMacros! I've been using it everyday. I love how it calculates my macros for me, and I can see the results of following it! However...sadly FitocracyMacros has stopped working since the most recent iOS 9 release. It will open up, and ask if it's a training day or rest day. It will also let me log my macros. Yet it will not let me view my history, recalculate my macros, or anything. The button at the bottom of the screen, doesn't work. At all. It's a bit frustrating! I hope they fix it soon! If so, I'll definitely change my rating to 5-stars! I love it that much! If not, I might sadly be deleting it and finding something else.

Off to a great start

Super handy, elegantly designed, and has easily integrated it's way into my life (which I can't say for most food-tracking apps). The catch at this point is that you need to know the macros of your food so you can enter them manually, as there is no database to pull in yet (though they plan to incorporate this later). I also sorely miss the ability to sort & search through my favorite foods list, as it's getting rather lengthy and it's arranged ONLY by entry date. Even alphabetical sorting would be a huge improvement. With a database + better sorting functionality this would easily be a 5-star app.

Perfectly simple and effective

MFP was too much info for me as I tried to move from counting every calorie to something a little closer to intuitive eating. FitocracyMacros makes it easy to track my macros, especially since my goals are directly in grams (which you can’t do in MFP unless you subscribe to their gold membership or whatever). BIG PLUS. I agree with the other reviewer that decimal points might be nice. Small things I couldn’t find a place to report to support... the font seems kind of blurry in a lot of places, and the abbreviations for some the days are just all wrong. 11st? 12nd???

Inclusive but Buggin

As a nonbinary person on HRT, my body isn’t “male” or “female” so wellness apps are super annoying when they make me pick from two categories that are not accurate right off the bat. Can’t even explain how good it felt to see an “other” category! Lost a star because the “More about Macros” instructions on FitocracyMacros appears to be broken. It just shows up as a title with no text under i’m not actually sure if i’m doin it right.

Best Macro Tracking App

I downloaded a bunch of macro tracking apps and this one is really cleverly designed and easy to use. I love how you can visually see what is left of your macros for the day, and what your weekly averages are. It’s straightforward, has a great visual design, and works for exactly what you need it for. It’s also free, whereas other apps charge you and don’t provide anything of the quality you’d find in this one. If it were a paid app, it’d be worth every penny, but it’s free. To the developers—you guys are awesome. Thanks for the great app! :)

Has 5 star potential, but falls short at current version

I love the potential of FitocracyMacros. Choosing your exact macros by gram and changing between rest and lifting days is intuitive and exactly what I would want.

However it lacks any food database whatsoever and a barcode scanner. They do say that it is coming in a future update, and I long await that update so FitocracyMacros can destroy myfitnesspal, given a large enough database.

But until that update comes, you'll have to manually track your macros for the day, which makes FitocracyMacros rather useless. Keep a journal with pen and paper, since you'll still need one anyways. At least for the time being.

I love this app, but it’s can’t be used with current OS

I love FitocracyMacros and wish I could keep using it but it hasn’t been updated in years and needs updating to work with Apple’s current OS.
Please update FitocracyMacros. It’s perfect in its simplicity! I don’t like too many bells and whistles. This is the best macro tracker for people that want to track things quickly and have a routine already dialed in.
Please update FitocracyMacros - I’m begging you!!!

Close

FitocracyMacros earns 4 stars for being the only app I can find that has training and rest days separated. Extremely useful. Missing from it are two key things: It does need to integrate a food database a la MyFitnessPal integration... Maybe even the ability to log foods in MFP and have that populate on FitocracyMacros. Secondly, it has no flexibility for variations in burned calories. I might want to go for a jog on a rest day, but FitocracyMacros shouldn't be forced to show that as a day blown by hundreds of calories.

Can only enter whole numbers, and no nutrition info

FitocracyMacros is very nicely designed however the function just isn't there. Unfortunately you can only enter whole numbers (can't enter 2.4 grams) and there isn't a nutrition database for foods yet, so you will have to research those yourself. I think FitocracyMacros will be a winner once those items are addressed, until then I will be using another app with greater functionality.

It's alright...

I can't find where to contact the makers with questions. If you only need the very bare bones it's ok. I need to sync the info between my tablet and my phone- can't find how to do that. He feature to change views from macros used to macros remaining doesn't work. And lastly, when counting macros you're (at least I am) doing it for the next day to plan food ahead. There's not a way to go to a future day to plan it out. It's a great idea, but it's in its infancy with many improvements needed. This is def no frills as is.

Great app

I think Macros is a great app. It has proven to be extremely useful in helping me cut weight in preparation for competition. The only thing I would suggest as a change is the order of the three entries. It should match the order on nutrition labels. Fat first, Carbs second and then Protein last. It's a minor detail but I think it would make entry a little more easy. Maybe just swap Fat and Protein in your next update.

Great macro tracker

As said in other reviews, the only thing lacking in FitocracyMacros is the inability to search or scan foods. Other than that, it is great for logging macronutrients! I prefer it to myfitnesspal because it's simple and you only have to enter in a few numbers as opposed to being required to enter in certain things -- again, super useful and helps keep me on track :)

Almost there

I just stared tracking my macros. I love that I can plan for fitness & non-fitness days. I wish I could plan food for the next day. It won't let me add in tomorrow's food making planning more difficult. I would like to be able to plan my food a day or even a week in advance. I don't mind the lack of food database, adding my own food and saving it has been easy.

Simple and easy to use with a food scale

I love this because it’s simple and all you need is a food scale to weigh your foods and you personally have to break up the amount your eating but it allows you to choose which meals are bigger than others. Needs to be updated to work with the new iOS system update

Really like this app but..

Okay I love the circle design showing my macros - not a lot of apps track it this way, it’s very simple and clean.
I wish there was a way to save my foods so I can quickly add them. I hate having to re-add my lemon pepper chicken recipe Every time I cook it. (16fat, 43protein, 2carbs) or my morning coffee nutrition numbers..Helpful suggestion - would love FitocracyMacros if it could do that!!

No food database makes this app cumbersome

Don't get me wrong, I love Fitocracy--- however the fact that FitocracyMacros suggests you simply go to other sites or apps to get food macro data seems lazy. If I wanted to use Fitday or the livestrong app to track food I would.

Putting the onus on the user to find, calculate and input data seems lazy. Seems like it would be better if they pulled data from other databases or at the least integrated with the MyFitnessPal API.

Good but needs improvement

It focuses on a few key tasks and keeps things simple. However, the usability isn’t great. Most of the time when I open FitocracyMacros , it asks if it’s training or rest day, after I’ve already selected the day. The process of adding meals to your day is also not intuitive. You press back to confirm your changes and tiny indicator dots instead of the actual meal to adjust details.

I need one extra day!

I love that the Fito Macros app allows me to switch back & forth between rest & training days - I can't find any other app that allows me to do that. My only issue is that I really need an extra day for my current training plan. It would also be great if this sync'ed with MFP - but if Fito can upgrade this to outdo MFP, I'd be willing to switch.
