Unable to login

Worthless app as I’m unable to login through SplunkOnCall so have to login to the website.

Auth

1995 called and wants its authentication method back. Sad.

Terrible UX

As far as incident management goes, it’s a bit clunky. Functional even if it occasionally is hard to ack an incident. Where it absolutely fails is with calendaring. To find out who is on call requires a very non intuitive workflow. I should, at least, be able to see if I’m on call at a glance. But no, one must click the “human head” icon, then the “Users” tab then “On Call”. I always forget this as we rotate through developers but holy... that’s just stupid. Re discovering this every six to eight weeks pretty much involves clicking through every available affordance and drilling into all the other areas of the application. I am not claiming to be the most astute user, but at the same time this is such a basic design flaw. It’s almost as if the Victor Ops UX team never does any usability testing or, perhaps, the UI is driven by engineers and there is no UX team... the latter is starting to make a certain kind of sense.

Horrible

The UI is slow and laggy, and SplunkOnCall force logs you out at the drop of a hat. Why do you log me out? You think I’m dying and desperate to be on-call? Furthermore, on teams where on-call rotation can be as far apart as a month, this expectation is unreasonable.

Poor phone altering makes this required

They call from different numbers every time, so you need to use alerts through this pointless app instead if you want it to go through Do Not Disturb reliably

The new app is terrible

I like victorops, but the new app is terrible. When I ack alerts from a locked screen, it died t actually ack it (this is painful when I’m driving). It’s also very tedious to ack multiple alerts at once - you used to be able to just swipe and ack, but now you need to go into each alert individually, which is sub-optimal when you are dealing with many alerts. We are considering switching to a competitor because of this.

Dated

SplunkOnCall is very limited. Even as a global admin I can’t assign on-call to someone for a team I’m part of which is unhelpful during critical issues.

As it relates to the service, overrides are bobo. As a member across multiple trams, if I create an override I am forced to assign a resource regardless if I’m actually on-call during that time the override is set for.

Splunk hasn’t invested anything once they took this over.

You still can do it and I’ll tell you how:

1. Take your UI designer (and stop using babies with tiny fingers, it’s illegal and against the rules!).
2. Make him oncall for 5 nights in a row.
3. Force him to acknowledge, reroute, snooze and resolve alerts based on some small parts of alert descriptions.
4. Wait for 2 nights.
5. On the day 3 you got a good UI.
6. On the day 4 you got a brilliant UI.
7. If you didn’t, return this designer to his previous barista job and hire a new one.
8. Goto 1.

Not that great

For me it's not laid out well at all. We use it for on-call rotation and it's a surprise when I go on call because I can't determine my schedule at a glance(what I care about) ever hear of a calendar control?; I am sure it does other things better.

Why rename the app

The new name doesn’t make any sense. Why change?

Ack-ing broken

Ack-ing from the home screen has been broken for the last several versions.

Decent

Overall a well-executed app. It's clearly an app created for iOS and therefore integrates very well with it. It's not simply a one-size-fits-all clone from platform to platform. My primary annoyance is the filtering capability on the Timeline page. Since you can't filter properly I'm forced to view a very noisy timeline filled with things that aren't relevant to me at all. At very least, add the teams to the filtering options please!

It works

Edit: Login issue was fixed.

App is pretty slow to load the alerts, but at least it loads the alerts.

Excellent !

Being on call isn’t great but at least I know I won’t miss a thing with the VictorOps app! Keep it coming

Great App and Service

We have used VictorOps for about a year and am very happy with their app. reliable alert routing with great features.

So deep

I was smitten from the start, but SplunkOnCall just keeps getting better. Too many features to list, but my fave has to be the ability to ack alerts all the way through to Nagios.

Great app

The VictorOps platform has been easy to use and really helped me and my team deal with the myriad of alerts we typically deal with coming from our monitoring solutions. Good flow, nice UI, very collaborative, and a great all around view of our infrastructure. Better than other alternative solutions I've seen. A+

Awesome app

So easy to use and seriously makes my on-call life easier.

Thumbs up!

Hate being woken up but the VictorOps app does its job that’s for sure!

Pretty great on-call software

Our team loves it. Five stars!
