Great app, needs a few improvements

I’ve used BodySpace for almost a year and it has completely shifted the way I workout. Using programs (I use Kris Gethin’ 12 week trainer) has made a drastic difference in the way I work out and the goals I’ve set for myself. I love how each day has a set workout list, some that are familiar and some that are pretty foreign, that are geared towards accomplishing the end goal. I can go into the gym not incredibly motivated to workout in the beginning but as the program list helps he organize my workouts in a way that helps me finish every session.

What still needs improvements, however is certain bugs within the programs. I’m not sure if it is specific to the program I use because as of right now I’ve only used one but there have been some pretty frustrating issues that have put pauses on my workouts. For example, there will be times were it just won’t list the “target rep number” where it should. Sometimes it won’t list the workout day all together and I’ll just have to skip it and move to the next day. I’ve actually temporarily paused my subscription because I didn’t want to deal with these issues.

This is the only review I’ve given for an app because it’s one that I want to incorporate into my daily lifestyle as I saw significant improvements in my workouts and wellbeing after using it. If these issues were to be resolved I’d for sure pay for a subscription to keep going after my goal.

Was a great app...

BodySpace/community helped me so much over the past 4/5 years. I’ve logged over 700 workouts and made quite a few friends. The functionality and variety of workouts were great.... WERE. Lately I have to restart BodySpace several times to even view my WOD. My notifications barely load (I constantly get an error that reads “Notifications cannot be loaded, please try again later”) My profile page does not load at all, just my avatar pic and no info (workouts tracked, weight lifted etc). I have brought this up SEVERAL times to customer support and all I’ve gotten back was a generic “we are aware of problems that users are having and are working to fix the issue, in the meantime please consider paying for a subscription...”.....?!!?! For an app that has been free for HOW MANY YEARS?! BB doesn’t make enough money off of their website and supplements that they now have to make money off of an app that has been free for so long?!! Now some workouts that I have used over and over are now behind a pay wall??!! Stop being greedy and FIX YOUR APP! I already spend enough money ordering supps on your site!! This makes me want to just delete BodySpace and delete my account. BB obviously isn’t interested in the well being of its users as it is in the all mighty dollar.

Love it but has room for improvement

Like all of us, BodySpace is working hard but has room for improvement. It would be beneficial if we could make notes on the workout or easily modify a workout plan if the gym doesn’t have certain equipment etc. I know you can add sets or add extra exercises at the end of a workout but being able to modify an existing super set would be helpful. Making notes like, how a certain exercise made you feel, what you should work on, tips to improve your stance etc. would be great too. Let’s take it to the next level!
The search feature is quirky too. Sometimes I can search for an workout plan by a name and it comes up, sometimes it doesn’t. Searching for a particular exercise isn’t easy either. The categories don’t always make sense or have a body part even selected so it’s hard to find an exercise if you don’t know it’s exact name.
Again, BodySpace is awesome and it’s amazing that it’s free. This is just some wishful feedback.

Great for starters

BodySpace is SUPER glitchy at times. It could use a tune up from a techy that knows how to streamline an app. Awesome for keeping track of workouts and weight lifted. The database could use we a tune up as well in regard to searching for workouts. Sometimes the exercises need to be spelled out perfectly. Maybe a search option for keywords to populate exercises similar to the one that was being searched for would help. Also, it would be really nice if BodySpace had the ability to suggest the weight needed for each exercise for the intended rep range based off what was used for the previous lift or similar movements. Kinda stretching for that one, but I’m sure there is someone WAY more educated than me with an algorithm that can solve that with a reasonable percentage difference for a suggested weight for the intended rep range based off a max out of said workout or weight use for similar movements.

Great fitness motivational/tracking app

First off, I’d like to say BodySpace had been mostly pleasant since I began using it 8 years ago. I have found a system of motivation through the fitness programs found within BodySpace , and I find it easy to stay on track since I am reminded through the body-calendar to hit my workouts each day.

Aside from the great fitness features, you can add friends or follow motivational people. Although there are the drawbacks of having creepers from time to time, I have only found that issue to happen once or twice, and it was easy to resolve. Ultimately, it comes with the territory, and I enjoy the social aspect and community that this app has established.

Overall, BodySpace does a nice job of helping you track your workouts, find a fitness program to help you on your journey (if needed), and connect with like-minded people in a fit and fun way.

Too Buggy!

I wish I could give it more stars because of how much freedom it allows the user when it comes to choosing from so many community-created workouts. That itself is such a great, unique feature to have compared to other popular apps. The only thing holding me back from rating it better is one MAJOR flaw, and I need to know from other people if this is happening to them as well. For the life of me I cannot find any other complaints from other people about this issue so it makes me wonder where the source of the problem is. The issue is that literally every single time I get on BodySpace and start searching for anything from a workout to a program I get the error “there was a problem loading templates, please try again later”. NOTHING will load even when I kill BodySpace , delete and reinstall BodySpace , hop off the WiFi, or restart my phone. I would love to hear if other people have experienced this because BodySpace has so much potential, but this literally makes me want to throw my phone against the wall. Dev Team NEEDS to see this review.

It used to be great...... before they started subscriptions

I used to use BodySpace a lot when i was getting into lifting weights. It was fantastic to work with! The tools they put in place and the helpful tips found throughout the website really helped me get started on my goal to swoleness. So it’s sad to see that when I suggested this same app to a friend I quickly discovered that the same tools I had utilized for free back just a year ago had now been locked behind a paywall. On further inspection, I saw that there were no additional tools to suffice the cost. Plain and simple, BodySpace was perfect when it was free, but I can’t recommend it now that everything is locked behind a pay wall. In fact, i would suggest googling certain workout regiments, like Kris gethins plans, and finding the programs for free cause through a $9 a month subscription is not worth it. I know they’re a business and need to make money, but they have their own clothing, supplements, and other various product lines to generate a sufficient profit, especially with how popular the site has become.

Need to integrate Apple Watch

Look, I like BodySpace. I love the database, even if it sometimes needs updates. I love that I can create workouts and plans (on the website) and follow them on my phone.

I hate that tracking a workout doesn’t track as an exercise on Apple Watch. I hate that the timer doesn’t ding on my watch like “Strong” does. I hate that I can’t save sets and adjust weights/reps on my watch like Strong. I hate that there isn’t an audible ding in my headphones when the rest timer is up, and that I have to click on the timer on my phone rather than it just stopping and letting me get back to work, thus killing my flow as I have to pickup & open my phone.

If y’all could pick up those kinds of things and make this work with Apple Watch, it would be 5 stars all day and I’d consider upgrading. As it is now? Should be 3.5 stars.

Amazing

BodySpace is like having a thousand personal trainers. The network of friends is truly supportive and positive, more than any social media I’m aware of. BodySpace has given me the right amount of motivation to go to the gym (because there’s never a shortage of excuses not to go), and the programs maximize my time there. BodySpace really helped change my lifestyle for the better on all fronts! Just try it. The missing fifth star is for the software not being able to keep up with so many users. A minor inconvenience to not have your previous weights from six months ago or your friend’s comments not load from time to time. Kind of endearing, like BodySpace is run by a couple of dudes in the Midwest. Highly recommended for everyone curious about fitness. From teenager to retiree. From no experience (that was me) to professionals (that answer my questions) it is a great tool.

Best workout tracking app, needs these changes:

The this app iOS app should let me to design and save workout templates and programs just like the website allows.
Some exercises such as Weighted Pull-ups need to show previous stats. I should not have to go to my workout history over and over just to view them.
All exercises should allow you to make comments on them so you can document how you felt during the lifts or even for reminding yourself about a setting, or a form change, etc. These comments should be visible with previous stats so each workout you can easily look back at your last workout to view weight, reps, and the comments.
Everything else is phenomenal about BodySpace. Thanks for hard work and for considering our feedback.

Great programs, super buggy

I don’t know how BodySpace has such perfect reviews. The programs are fantastic and provide a great guide to your routine, with videos and step by step workouts. I don’t use the social media aspect, but my workout buddy uses this and has the same issues that I do. You can save your weight and reps on sets, but lately it often isn’t saving in BodySpace if you forget to complete the workout. This may be because the data requires an internet connection, but why not have an option to make it local? BodySpace also doesn’t show your previous day workout weight and reps unless you close out BodySpace and relaunch it. This is a problem when all your tracking data from your current workout can be erased. There’s also no way to pause a program if you choose to only do some of its phases. From the viewpoint of just following workouts, they’re great, but if you can’t properly track your progress then what’s the point?

Great app But…

Great app! I’ve been using it for years to help track my workouts, gains and progress and it’s a really really good tool. It’s also a good resource to help you connect with folk who share similar interest. The store is pretty good too.

The only reason I can’t give it a 5 start rating is that the exercise database needs to be updated. I’ve had 2 back surgeries and have been forced to adjust my routines through the years and many exercises I do ‘in addition to’ traditional resistance training are not in the DB therefore I can’t track them and get the full overview of the impact of my training. Small thing (I know) but even with that it’s still the best on the market- hands down.

Amazing app!

I’m going to go ahead and lay it out right here.. BodySpace is great. I HATE the gym, and the workouts that people have put on here really help me through it every day. I’m a very schedule-oriented person and that’s exactly what this gives me. I was skeptical at first, but as I went through trial and error with different workouts, I began to find ones that I loved.

Not only that, but they sent me an email to give me an overview of my previous weeks workout. What muscles I did great on, good on or nothing at all. That’s something I truly value and appreciate, and honesty didn’t expect. (I don’t always read fully what I get, I guess.)

I like that there’s a social media aspect to it, but I don’t use that. Keep BodySpace great, please!!!!

Sad day, had to delete the app

Enjoyed BodySpace for the last 5+ years, had great workouts and really appreciated the variety from which you were able to choose from. Videos were incredibly helpful and ultimately loved the results. Was curious why the constant badgering to refresh and change my password... finally finished my last work out from a 12 week plan and pushed the button....... now it wants me to pay for a subscription.... sorry too many free options out there to pay for BodySpace. Thank you for the last 5+ years and FYI I will also go else where for all of my supplement needs which until today, I ordered from your website. Should have thought of that during your focus group sessions before you tried to pull the old bait-and-switch routine. Wish more people could have benefited from the FREE version, promoted your app to everyone I knew. Keep me posted if you ever return to your previous version!

Best workout ever

I have used BodySpace on and off for years I have tried others and majority of the workout app you only get 30 day free trial and then you are charged an arm and leg. I always come back to this one! It’s a mix between a workout app and social media you have support of other users. It’s user friendly and has programs for everyone from someone that has zero exercise experience to the most experienced exerciser. You type in what your goals are and there is a never ending list of programs or you can create your own! I’ve been consistently using BodySpace for 3 weeks and I am doing a program and I started seeing results by week 2! I highly recommend for all ages and expertise

Looking for a start... this is it

BodySpace isn’t going to drag you to the gym, but if you possess the strength and will to get yourself there, this will help you get started. It has everything you need for whatever fitness level you are. It has premade workouts with videos that show you proper form, it has a build your own program for the more advanced it has modifiers If you have some sort of injury... and that’s all just the free app. If you pay a monthly subscription it gives you nutrition and meal plans too. It opens up a “instagram” like area that lets you be a part of a forum that people can encourage you if you need that kind of thing. It tracks your weight history it’s a fantastic app

Crashing A lot Lately and Quality is going downhill

I’ve had BodySpace for over two years and when I first got it- I loved it. Lots of workouts and programs to choose from, with a quite diverse database. However- In the last year it has continuously become more glitchy and less productive. More of the workout programs are wanting you to join the paid subscription. However when I did that- the programs didn’t convert to BodySpace very well. I.e. Hannah Eden’s program. I had to download ANOTHER app to access the videos and then there wasn’t a way to record my workout in the BS app.
BodySpace is glitchy and crashes a lot. With increased frequency, I am unable to load the daily program on my app. So here I sit-ready to workout and can’t pull up my workout. Please make some changes. I like BodySpace but am hating the increased headache!!!

Few bugs but on whole it’s good.

BodySpace holds up for exercises and searches for programs but if you’re searching other peoples workouts then BodySpace stalls and shuts down causing you to restart at the beginning and having to search again.

Some people are great at keeping track of their workouts and you can see which caused the best progress, others don’t and only post pics. If you’re interested in programs that worked for people, it’s awesome to look at the profiles with progress photos and programs they were on while their transformation took place.

BodySpace is also great for looking up programs without machines or weights for those who do not have access while traveling.

Great app with huge potential

I recently downloaded BodySpace again to start a workout program (shortcut to size) and I’m loving the workouts with built in guides. Fairly easy to log, and great timers and tools to help me from getting too distracted at the gym. My main complaints are that it’s ALMOST perfect. It needs some polish in the design to make it easier to see what’s happening, it would be amazing to have it work on Apple Watch so I could leave my phone. The workouts themselves and the logging aesthetic could use a facelift. All daily minor things but they are holding it back from a world class 5* app. I’m hoping they keep updating the design to make it more intuitive and efficient.

Best workout app

This is the best workout app that I’ve come across by far. You can download different workout plans and search for certain ones with filters like gender, age, muscle group, intensity and more. You can use other people’s workout plans as templates and adjust them as needed or create your own. The descriptions of the exercises helps beginners to feel more confident about what they are doing. You can put in your own sets and reps along with the weights you used. For cardio workouts such as the elliptical or treadmill you can even go in and add details such as the amount of miles you ran how many calories your burned and your heart rate.

By

Great app

Not perfect but has a variety of free workout programs to choose from. You can’t find that anymore. The exercises have tutorial videos. I used BodySpace over 5 years ago and came back to use it today. The free content you get from BodySpace is hard to find in fitness apps. It’s not a flawless app but it’s flaws are worth overlooking.

One tip, when you’re doing a program or a workout, you need to tap the set you are about to save to. Sometimes I click save the set and think it automatically goes to the next one and then get mixed up. I think that’s how it’s supposed to work but just make sure you select the set you want to record or select the set you want to edit during a workout.

Not working with server connections

I’ve used BodySpace nearly daily for years, logging more than 2000 workouts. I like the database and can design workouts on my laptop. The big problem with BodySpace is that when I try to use a custom workout template, I frequently get an error message that these aren’t available - to try again later. If I quit BodySpace and restart it, the custom template is now available. Sometimes it takes multiple restarts. Sometimes it will tell me, “You have no history for this exercise” for something that I’ve done many times. Sometimes it won’t show previous stats for an exercise. Again, quitting and restarting seems to restore these, but it’s very frustrating enough to deduct 3 stars. BodySpace is totally server dependent for accessing past workouts. These are not saved locally, so when the server is down (as it has been all week) I can’t access previous workouts to know what current load and reps should be. Update - BodySpace still won’t connect to the server making it useless. Down to one star.

By

Just okay

3 stars is fair for BodySpace. It does what it says it does, sometimes. When it works well, it's great. It's easy to declare exercises, numbers of reps and sets, rest times, and programs. And there are tons of program and exercise options in their library. It's even possible to build your own multi-week program on their server and fetch it on BodySpace .
Only problem is BodySpace frequently just doesn't work. Often, the servers are down or hard to connect to. Other times, the program I'm working just doesn't appear in my dashboard and I'm standing there in the gym after some warmup sets just refreshing, refreshing, refreshing my dashboard waiting for the program to load. If it's a custom program, it could just not appear in the program list at all.
Lately, the server has been down for a week. I'm bummed that it might be time to start using a new app for the first time in like 7 years.
