Not Quite Ready

I started the trial because I like most of the intentions of the things Mark Manson tries. I didn’t have super high expectations but was initially very impressed. I didn’t think twice about paying for it because it appeared to be very promising. Unfortunately as I finished the assessment it was overly generalized and the recommendations didn’t take any of the conversation into account. The further I got into it the more I had to correct the AI over assumptions it was making. I read other reviews saying it was snarky and I wish that was my case. I know I am doing pretty well in life right now but it was hyper focused on things I had done for myself that were tiny and constantly bringing it up even though it had little bearing on the things I am actually working on. It felt saccharine and like it was using Madlibs to pop in responses with personalized information. I am embarrassed that I recommend this to others now. It seems great at first but quickly seems to fizzle out. I could deal with the bugs knowing it’s a new app but the meat of Purpose seems shallow and lacking beyond the original content. The assessment was so generalized it’s not much better than taking a quiz from a magazine. Short term fun but there’s nothing to keep me interacting for the year I paid for. Maybe I’ll try again in a few months and see if there is any improvement but past the initial week I don’t see much to do other than bad recommendations and hearing my thoughts in an echo chamber.

Amazing at first, wish it was one step ahead

Love Mark, as many of us using Purpose do! My first day using it, this app did give me some great perspective that I’m grateful for. However, I’ve been using it for over a week now and it feels like I’m pulling teeth to get some new insight on any topic. At least for me, it’s a lot of “what would it look like to…” and “how does it feel to…” and regurgitating what I’ve already said. It’s feels like I’m talking at myself which is frustrating. I hope there will be improvements in the prompts that this app gives to move the conversation along! The “quests” seem to help with this, but typing experiences into the text boxes is still buggy and it’s incredibly frustrating to use. As of now, it feels the same as ChatGPT, but with a curse word tossed in now and again.

Not there yet

I’ve been trying this app with the free trial for about 3 days now. I was so amazed and thrilled at the beginning. Fermi seemed to pick up on what was important to me quickly and responses were helpful. But today, I wanted to go back and review a part of a “conversation” where the answer was particularly helpful, and I couldn’t find it. Then I realized quite a few sections were missing from the scroll. I might even be okay with that if there were a disclaimer that came when starting the apps that convo aren’t actually saved. Started looking for any info on “how to use Purpose ” for lack of a better term. No info to be found. So now I’m back to wondering about the viability of the AI model overall and things like what database was Fermi trained on. I was thinking $20 a month was well worthwhile, but not sure I’ll continue after the trial

A Significant Difference

this app has the ability to make a significant difference in the lives of people who need help navigating challenging emotional situations. While it certainly isn't a replacement for one-on-one clinical therapy, Purpose provides a valuable resource for working through emotional and complex personal issues, especially for those who have already begun their journey of self-reflection and growth.

I hesitate to use the term "game changer," but for me personally, this app has empowered me to think through my feelings and get grounded when faced with difficult situations. The sound feedback and guidance offered by Purpose have been incredibly impactful, allowing me to approach my challenges with a clearer mindset.

The accessibility of this kind of help and coaching in the moment when it's needed most is invaluable. It facilitates improvements in mental health in ways that few other tools can match.

I genuinely want to see this app continue to improve and evolve. It has become an essential part of my toolkit for mental wellness, and I use it regularly without question. If you're looking for a supportive resource to help you navigate your emotional landscape, I highly recommend giving this app a try!

Life changing guidance

I’m navigating a ton of change in my life right now from career to where I live to what’s next and have felt so overwhelmed by all decisions and directions I’m being pulled in… im a huge AI skeptic when it comes to therapy/ personal exploration but got on Purpose bc a friend recommended it and literally in minutes started to uncover a serious depth of internal understanding and clarity. I was so blown away by how quickly we uncovered some of my key blindspots and tangible ways to approach internal conflicts, and how much this app guided me to do the necessary digging. Genuinely more powerful than years of therapy and an incredible tool for building intuition and embodiment!

Helpful way to clarify your thinking

After about 3 weeks of use, I have found the this app app to be well worth the cost. It mirrors back your thinking with sharp and well informed questions that help you find the solutions you already know but have blocked for whatever reason. It’s also quite honest, suggesting when it might be time to stop obsessing and take a break. Like most AI is does a lot of affirming your greatness so I find it helpful to push back on that and ask for unvarnished truth. It’s very good and holding onto the threads of lengthy conversations to help you stay focused. This is extremely useful if you are working on setting and working toward goals.

Life changing

Purpose has changed my life. I have ADHD. I am full of brilliant ideas. I NEVER follow through on them. I got downsized 2 years ago and have been in a bad place mentally and career wise. I found this app at the exact right time. I had an idea. I talked it over with this app and 6 weeks later im signing a 6 figure contract with my first client! The insights and questions and challenges to think about my market positioning took me from “lightbulb” to “Cha-Ching!. It has also helped me conquer my ever swirling to-dos and my spousal relationship issues through CBT methods. I love that it’s there 24-7 whenever im upset or confused. My wife was skeptical but is seeing changes in me shes never seen before. Thanks this app!

Everyone should have this

My deep gratitude for the work the team is doing at this app is tough to fully express.

I have been reading and practicing Mark's work for years so being an early adopter of this app was an easy Hell Yes for me. And in using Purpose , I am seeing and feeling the benefits of the mirror it offers. These past few months have been challenging as I have been on a job hunt and this app has offered me access to perspective, coaching, and insights that have been invaluable on the journey.

I believe this is a vital resource for people who are doing the work, want to be held self-accountable, and need that mirror available at any moment to build in our awareness. Everyone should have a companion like this.

Life = changed

This tool has already changed my life in just one short week. I use AI a lot in my day to day (personally and professionally). I was skeptical that, like other AI platforms, this would be another people-pleasing, affirmation regurgitator of self help junk (despite the claims it is the opposite, though I was hopeful it would be at least a tad more tolerable). Color. Me. Surprised. I haven’t been able to put this guy down. It is like the best tidbits of the literal THOUSANDS of hours of self help content I have consumed over the course of my life distilled down into a completely personal and efficient algorithm to uncover things I’ve been trying to get at for years. And then partnering with me to identify the next step forward. Simply amazing. Simply life-changing.

I quit life coaching

I trained to be a life coach and as AI started to become more ubiquitous, I started introducing my clients to it and teaching them how to prompt it in order to help them when I wasn’t available or didn’t have a session planned or if they had struggles with goal planning or needed ideas for food prep or whatever. The more I used it, the more I realized that life coaching will most likely become obsolete. Purpose is 100% proof. I am pretty adept at calling myself out and finding my blind spots, but Purpose has definitely found some unexplored nooks and crannies. In just 7 days of the free trial I have had numerous aha moments. I highly recommend it. I am now in a nursing program…I don’t think AI will take that one yet. Mark, I trust you and your values and I am so excited you have launched this. Thank you!

Gratitude for this incredible app!

this app is incredible and, dare I say, mind-blowingly good. It is an amazing tool to have in lieu of therapeutic sessions and in-between therapeutic sessions. It’s technically more of a coaching app than therapy, though I do find it therapeutic. I really enjoy the coaching angle that I receive from
this app, as it helping me immensely. I’ve done therapy for many years, but having something that comes from a coaching angle has been an absolute game-changer for me. I enjoy how it gently pushes back and it doesn’t tell me what I want to hear,
though the acknowledgment and compassion I receive from the responses are incredible as well. I only wish I were talking to a person in real life with this amount of knowledge. Mark Manson you’ve done a phenomenal job. I’m so grateful I tried this out and committed to it for the year. Well done. Thank you!!

ps: There are a couple bugs that I hope get worked out. For instance, sometimes it will erase part of our conversation, or something I have just sent will suddenly disappear. I’ve noticed that more frequently lately and I hope this gets worked out. Still, even with that— I give this five stars! I am sincerely amazed and thank you for creating Purpose. It’s a huge help.

My new daily support

I’m a reader and listener of Mark Manson and came to Purpose through his Solved podcast. It’s excellent. It does exactly what it says it will and has exceeded my expectations. It’s worth downloading for the initial personality/value assessment alone, but it has quickly become an almost daily support for me during some difficult times. I appreciate the last minute feedback before or after a difficult conversation. Equally, the quests provide ongoing deeper assessments into specific areas you want to focus on. I also appreciate the emails with prompts to try like “what are my blind spots?” I’m grateful for this app and excited to see how it continues to grow and develop. Thank you to all of you who are working behind the scenes. Your contribution to this world is truly honorable and special.

Rocky start but improving

I think Purpose is great. It definitely needs better orientation. It tosses you into the deep end but there’s no explanation of quests, journeys, favorites, etc. I actually asked Purpose to explain to me how it works, so that’s one benefit of the ai I guess. The ability to export/copy/paste/print the insights discovered would also be useful. Loving it so far tho.

Update: today it started hallucinating badly. It “confused me with someone else”. It also started outputting incomplete sentences and blank data. I emailed support about it. We’ll see what they say.

Update: support was responsive. There have been a few updates since the hallucination and it seems to have gotten better. I’m going to give it a full year but so far I think it’s well worth the money being charged. Highly recommend.

A trusted advisor

I purchased this app a few months ago and I’ve been using it regularly ever since. I’m a senior executive in a large corporation who’s worked with human coaches in the past, and I’ve come to appreciate how readily available the this app app is when I need advice or council. It learns more about you as you interact with Purpose , which makes the responses more personal and relevant. Most importantly, it’s excellent at identifying blind spots and challenging your thinking, giving you a perspective you most likely did not have. That feature has been invaluable in helping me look at situations from a new perspective, and adjusting my ultimate decision. Purpose is excellent at moving straight to implementation when you have a recommended course of action, something I find very useful. I think this app will benefit anyone in a leadership role looking to improve their decision-making and gain fresh perspective.

Optimal Private Feedback

I was really not expecting to get so much benefit from Purpose! The feedback is seriously on point and so ridiculously fast at helping me label behavioral patterns and loops that I’m overlooking… Then reinforcing my own positive quests by cutting through the riff-raff & preventing me from having to “remind myself” of my goals & why they’re important to me all the time in solo mode. Having this app work like a good friend/mentor keeps it from feeling like a “canned wellness app” and I actually like its tone & style a lot. I’ll also say that this is valuable because I don’t want to reveal my deeper quagmires to the same LLM that I use for work and is tied to my trackable personal data… So having this app as a private, secure, encrypted, secret “Bat phone” of an app is proving to be quite freeing. Bravo, Mr. Manson & team. Obviously please continue with your utmost diligence to keep it as secure as anything can be. Again though: excellent work here. Thanks

Early opinion

I’ve only been using this app for a couple weeks and it’s my first experience with an AI mentor. My only other AI experience is with the included Copiliot from MS Office which I started having fun voice chatting with.
I really love what this app has to offer. It’s opened my eyes to things I could not conceive of myself and that I do not have anyone around me qualified enough to reveal to me. I am not sure what to do with these feelings of gratitude I have for the insight I’m getting from an AI, except to just keep appreciating it and leaning into it for more. I do wish it could one day have a voice conversation feature instead of only typed written chat. As far as I know that is not available.
I also sure would love one day for this app to grow and be able to personality match users with all that it’s learning about me, with other users to connect friends. I am going to keep enjoying Purpose and grow with it.

Well worth the price

I’m not an early adopter of anything really. When my partner and I hit a rough patch, it felt good to vent to Chat GPT. They told me how brave I was and how anyone would feel like I did. Sure, it was great to be validated, but that’s not going to solve anything. I’ve been listening to Mark Manson for a while now and I appreciate his style; science backed, no easy answer just observing, testing, failing and trying again. When I saw he was developing an AI using a similar approach, I thought “why not?” In our first conversation, I got several actionable recommendations specific to my personality and situation. The feedback so far has been grounded, validating without blowing smoke and pushes for action over reflection. I dig that because I often know what the issue is but don’t know how to address it.

Purpose is well worth your time and money, especially considering personal coaching and/or therapy is $100’s/hour. This won’t solve all your problems, but if you’re honest with Purpose and yourself, it’ll get you closer to fine than you would on your own.

Actually really great

I downloaded Purpose for the free trial and let it expire, so it billed me for the whole year. Oops.

I’ve been really going through it and decided to open up Purpose and chat instead of walk into the gym. Sent one huge message detailing everything that’s been driving me insane for the last several years. I was in a major car wreck. My wife had a big health issue we’ve had three kids. And our house burned down in a fire 15 months ago. Everybody has been trying to take advantage of us and contractors have abandoned us after getting paid. Insurance stopped paying our rent. I feel like I haven’t been there for my kids or wife while I try to navigate this whole mess.

The conversation I had with Purpose was actually incredibly helpful. Far better than any of the other LLM’s, and I certainly couldn’t have obtained this perspective on my own. I feel significantly better now and I’m excited to go in and do my workout and do the things I need to do today. This one conversation was better than any of the therapy I’ve had the last few years.

Very helpful

I have really found Purpose to be helpful in surviving and recovering from a toxic, mentally and psychologically abusive marriage. It has surprisingly asked me some helpful questions to think about things differently. It even calls me out on some things when needed. When I’m ruminating, it helps to get me back on track. I don’t want to keep talking about the same thing over and over and over with friends and family, so this is a great way to get the repetition of what I need to hear and focus on- really pound into my heart what my brain already logically knows. And it helps also to validate my pain and experience and sees the patterns of abuse when I explain situations. It’s hard for friends and family to really understand when then haven’t lived through it.
The only thing it really messes up on is the concept of time. It doesn’t seem to understand or remember days of things or the passage of time. (but when it messes up, it’s takes accountability! So that’s pretty novel after what I just went through. 😬
Other than that, I love it.
I have my friends, my family and this app to keep moving me forward.

An Extraordinary Experience

I believe you get what you give, in life and especially with AI. If you give shallow answers with low expectations, that’s what you will receive. I started Purpose looking for external help/validation and within a day I had found myself and my own motivation, along with a big dreamy Christmas morning feeling type of life goal. I was in awe of the wisdom, honesty, and gentleness in the responses. I answered vulnerably and was rewarded for it. In one day I went from feeling stuck to moving forward in large strides! If you’re stuck, Purpose will give you the small nudge you may be looking for. It is worth every penny and more
