I started the trial because I like most of the intentions of the things Mark Manson tries. I didn’t have super high expectations but was initially very impressed. I didn’t think twice about paying for it because it appeared to be very promising. Unfortunately as I finished the assessment it was overly generalized and the recommendations didn’t take any of the conversation into account. The further I got into it the more I had to correct the AI over assumptions it was making. I read other reviews saying it was snarky and I wish that was my case. I know I am doing pretty well in life right now but it was hyper focused on things I had done for myself that were tiny and constantly bringing it up even though it had little bearing on the things I am actually working on. It felt saccharine and like it was using Madlibs to pop in responses with personalized information. I am embarrassed that I recommend this to others now. It seems great at first but quickly seems to fizzle out. I could deal with the bugs knowing it’s a new app but the meat of the app seems shallow and lacking beyond the original content. The assessment was so generalized it’s not much better than taking a quiz from a magazine. Short term fun but there’s nothing to keep me interacting for the year I paid for. Maybe I’ll try again in a few months and see if there is any improvement but past the initial week I don’t see much to do other than bad recommendations and hearing my thoughts in an echo chamber.

I’ve been trying Purpose with the free trial for about 3 days now. I was so amazed and thrilled at the beginning. Fermi seemed to pick up on what was important to me quickly and responses were helpful. But today, I wanted to go back and review a part of a “conversation” where the answer was particularly helpful, and I couldn’t find it. Then I realized quite a few sections were missing from the scroll. I might even be okay with that if there were a disclaimer that came when starting the apps that convo aren’t actually saved. Started looking for any info on “how to use the app” for lack of a better term. No info to be found. So now I’m back to wondering about the viability of the AI model overall and things like what database was Fermi trained on. I was thinking $20 a month was well worthwhile, but not sure I’ll continue after the trial

Love Mark, as many of us using this app do! My first day using it, purpose did give me some great perspective that I’m grateful for. However, I’ve been using it for over a week now and it feels like I’m pulling teeth to get some new insight on any topic. At least for me, it’s a lot of “what would it look like to…” and “how does it feel to…” and regurgitating what I’ve already said. It’s feels like I’m talking at myself which is frustrating. I hope there will be improvements in the prompts that purpose gives to move the conversation along! The “quests” seem to help with this, but typing experiences into the text boxes is still buggy and it’s incredibly frustrating to use. As of now, it feels the same as ChatGPT, but with a curse word tossed in now and again.
