Very good

Updated: I am able to download and read my purchased magazines on multiple devices. My iPad and iPhone.

So far I have really enjoyed RECOILOFFGRIDMagazine . I recently stumbled across a more recent, hard copy issue of Offgrid and loved the articles, layout, and photography in it. I wanted to get earlier editions but realized that they are hard to come by and I am not paying $90+ on eBay for early hard copy issues. So I took a chance on RECOILOFFGRIDMagazine and downloaded the first issue. No bugs or problems yet. I am using an iPad mini without retina display. I have not upgraded my OS software to 8.0+ Others seem to be having some issues with the latest OS. Most all products listed have hyperlinks to their website which I find very helpful for researching. Easy to navigate. Double tap to zoom, double tap to zoom out to flip the page. Pretty simple. I will most likely download additional issues. Very nicely written magazine.

Good Magazine, Terrible App.

The magazine content is great, but the electronic version is just a static copy of the file sent to the printers to produce the physical magazine. At least the URLs could have been made into hyperlinks. Even better, some interactive content or additional hyper-content would've been nice to add some value over paper media.

Also, purchasing electronic issues of the magazine is just a straight download and doesn't link it to you iCloud account or the AppStore. I bought electronic issues via my iPhone, but now can't read it on my iPad unless I buy it again.

As others have mentioned, why is this a separate app instead of an integrated part of the newsstand? What kind of amateur chose these hacks to put this together for OffGrid? Couldn't they have at least asked Shelley for her advice first?

Great compendium. Needs more interactivity

Very good mag that brings together tons of useful information in an easy to follow format.
Needs workable links and maybe a summary of reviews, to decide which things are best in their categories.
Absolutely stunning photography is a big plus. Wish other magazines, catalogs would have such attention to light and detail.
Would be nice to see more medical articles. Knowledge is more important than gear, though I guess hard to make money on it...

Just doesn’t work

I always had to re-download issues on my previous iPad. I just got a new iPad Pro and it says the restoring of issues may take some time but the ‘download’ issue option doesn’t display so I can’t access any issues. Contacted support and didn’t get an answer. Paid until December of 2019 and get get a single issue. Back to the paper copies.

Terrible transition to digital

This has got to be one of the worst print-to-digital transitions I've ever seen. It's like someone just took the print proofs, scanned them and slapped them in an iTunes wrapper. The font barely rasterizes so you need to zoom in so far as to not get the entire context of the page. The print version could be great but I have no idea. Can't find any in bookstores, which is why I got the iPad version. But if they put as little effort into it as they did the electronic version, they should have just stayed off grid. If you want to see how an excellent print-to-digital setup should be done, check out Geek Magazine. At least they have interactivity _and_ text you can read.

Great magazine if ever available.

I’m not sure how many times I’ve had to restore my purchased magazines and wait for them to become available eventually. It just seems counter productive to have this library of amazing info on your phone if you are hoping for access when you need it. I love the mag and paid for these purchases in order to have the issues downloaded on my phone. Maybe they can stick with something and allow for the purchases to remain intact after updates.

Great information

You don't have to be "Prepper" to find the information In this magazine very useful. I am by no means a Prepper and yet this magazine has giving me valuable info on how better to deal with likely situations that could easily affect anyone of us, long term black outs, broken down on the road, dealing with floods, earthquakes, etc that will force you to be by yourself for up to days at a time.

Great prepper magazine based on Recoil magazine model

This magazine follows Recoil to the letter on layout and presentation. That's not a bad thing though, I quite like the emphasis on pictures and a lot of other ways they do things. RECOILOFFGRIDMagazine itself is just static images but they're good quality. I'd love to see them incorporate media like the Backpacker magazine does with slide shows, video and audio clips but I can see how that wouldn't be easy. Overall I'm very happy to have access to this on the iPad.

App was good but now doesn’t work

I updated RECOILOFFGRIDMagazine and tried to restore purchases and RECOILOFFGRIDMagazine just times out and won’t download any purchases. I have purchased about 8 issues and got the subscription and can’t access the content now. The developer needs to fix this ASAP! All my purchases were through itunes.

Meh you don't get what you pay for.

I bought the magazine and RECOILOFFGRIDMagazine thinking the links would work they don't, just shots taken from the mag and poor shots. The magazine is great but RECOILOFFGRIDMagazine is horrible made mistake buying it twice thought it be a better experience more richer so I don't have to care my magazine around.

Thing to make RECOILOFFGRIDMagazine better
1. Make the links clickable/maybe even the picture too.
2. High res photos not just screen shots of the magazine. (That's what I got the magazine for)
3. Text zooming and be able to change font. (Just think that be nice since all the other text magazine apps have it)

My 2 main negatives about RECOILOFFGRIDMagazine not the magazines are stated in the first two points. Just wanted a more rich and fuller ios experience from RECOILOFFGRIDMagazine since the content is so good.

Best Magazine Layout

These guys know how to take great information and put it in a nice, clean layout. No bugs in RECOILOFFGRIDMagazine. This should be the standard all others have to meet. Top notch info. Let me know if I can ever write/cover a subject for you.

Awesome....but

Love that it's the digital version, I hate how when you enlarge the page on the phone it wants to turn the page forward or back. It needs to be less sensitive to that. Would also be cool to add a print option, like after you pay for the subscription if you wanna print a article that you think you need to put in a binder of things to remember would be great

Come On Man!

I can't say anything about the magazine content because I can't download the issues I have purchased. I downloaded RECOILOFFGRIDMagazine and then purchased the Summer and Fall 2014 editions. When I tried to download them I got error message repeatedly. I deleted RECOILOFFGRIDMagazine and reinstalled several times. I was able to begin to download an issue but as soon as I opened it RECOILOFFGRIDMagazine crashed. Then I was back to square one. Nothing worse than when you cannot access something you purchase. Come on man!! Fix it!!

By

Do NOT download or buy

I bought three issues, and have the same issue as user Adam Comeaux describes below: issues will not download without an app crash. Deleting RECOILOFFGRIDMagazine and retrying doesn’t help. What’s worse, there’s ZERO point of contact for the developer. Who does that in 2014? Answer: a developer who doesn’t care about their product or long term revenue, let alone care about the customer. Currently attempting to get my money back with the good help of someone from iTunes Customer Support.

Great magazine, terrible App.

Great magazine and content. Terribly made, cookie-cutter-worthless magazine app. Want to select text? Nope. Want to zoom in on a column of writing by double tapping the text in that column? Nope. Want to follow the links underneath product names? Nope. Want to do anything other than look at a picture? Nope. RECOILOFFGRIDMagazine just downloads a huge stack of images. Pictures of text.

This is the worst kind of magazine applications, especially given how much progress has been made in iOS publishing. Welcome back to publishing circa 2009.

Great mag, not interactive

I agree with the assessments that RECOILOFFGRIDMagazine is lacking. The mag being a good format, you just have to blow it up to read it, at least my old eyes needed it blown up... Anyway, great mag, lousy electronic application. I will say the price is way better than the newsstand, and I'm not cluttering up the house.

Fantastic Magazine

Absolutely love this magazine along with sister publication Recoil. Both offer the best information on guns, gear, and where to purchase them. Only problem is, can never get enough and miss the publication in off months. Great job!

Excellent Premiere Issue!!!

Great articles with lots of 101 type instruction to get you started. I have the print issue and can't wait for the next issue to hit the street. A huge well done to the folks from RECOIL magazine!

Great mag, but no subscription option

The magazine is fantastic. I really enjoy the Recoil magazine and subscribe to that too. Unfortunately this is either a one shot deal or just an oversight since there is no subscription option. Otherwise it would be 5 stars.

Great content

Along with Recoil the content is relevant and well written. I patronize the advertisers as well for they're patriots and where "Don't Tread on Me" may be just words to the anti-Constitution Marxist, it is a way of life for us and who we are at our very core.

Great magazine not so great app!

I start ran across this magazine in Barnes and Noble. I picked it up and thought it was a great read and loved the layout so I decided to see if the had for my iPad and came across RECOILOFFGRIDMagazine . Downloaded thinking that maybe it would have some cool features but it didn't. RECOILOFFGRIDMagazine and the magazine are one in the same which is good and bad all at the same time. I would have given it a higher rating if they included some more features or a better detailed write up of the articles. Hopefully they will get better and not a 1 shot deal.
