Like the app… Not the billing

I'm a new user of Sutara , signed up for one month at what I thought was going to be $6.99. I've listened to three stories in three days and have enjoyed them all. I like how the stories are brief, but have several takeaways that are applicable to daily life.
Yesterday I got three notifications from my credit card that the this app app was attempting to charge three different fees, none of them $6.99. Thankfully the credit card declined all those attempted charges but I had to contact them to get my card off "hold" after I notified them those were not charges I authorized.
I decided this morning to cancel Sutara , sadly. Not worth the risk financially.

Scam!!!

As others have stated here, this is a total scam to get more money! They make it seem like it’s 30$ something dollars for a YEAR, which I thought ok I’ll do it, and a month later I get another payment of 39$ or something! I’ve had to email to cancel, you cannot cancel through app subscriptions which seems fishy to me. I’ve already double paid!!!!!
Stay away. And oh the stories are not even relaxing or interesting.

Scam

Do not sign up for this, even if you cancel your subscription well ahead of time you will be charged. I am being charged every week when it was supposed to be once per month. I cancelled the day I was charged for the next month and the very next week another charge is coming up. There’s no customer service to even report this to.

Pay Attention

I’ve been charged a total of $50 for Sutara since downloading the trial. I was going to let the first charge slide because shame on me for not paying attention to the fine print, so I canceled the subscription and was going to enjoy what I’d paid for. I just got an additional charge for another “subscription” within Sutara for which I was not prepared.

It is a great app, but the pricing and processes are very scammy and unethical.

Transparency in pricing might cause the bottom line to dip a little, but the quality of the relationships and word of mouth you’d build with your customers would undoubtedly pay off.

I would absolutely not recommend Sutara

Total fraud AVOID this App

Other people have written this, but I too have been scammed by them with multiple charges every month AFTER I cancelled which they make impossible to do. I had to cancel my credit card and get a new one charging me over and over and over please avoid this. It’s not even good the stories are all AI and terrible I’m surprised the Apple Store has it here with all of the

Fraud

This company will make it impossible to cancel - I’ve been double charged weekly despite confirmation of cancellation. They then blame for signing up but all I did was click for free trial and now seem to have 2-3 subscriptions. You can’t report to BBB as it seems the company is out of US - otherwise if in US I need the address. I already have an email thread and they deliberately delay responses so you can’t report continue to be charged. Unreal! I’ve reported to my bank but will likely have to replace my card - what an inconvenience. Awful people behind this business to scam people like this. Shame on you!

Fraudulent charges

I signed up for a single trial of $6.99 and immediately cancelled. I was then told I had signed up for all these bundles which I did NOT authorize and was charged $29 twice and $39 twice. There is no way to cancel because Sutara keeps adding new subscriptions and adding renewals that I didn’t authorize. I will be reporting them for fraud as this is totally unacceptable. My bank already knows it is fraudulent and is disputing every charge.

All plans have a hidden Al subscription

I purchased the annual plan. The money was paid upfront. Then, there company began charging a $40 monthly subscription fee on top of the annual plan. When I contracted Sutra, I received a form email about “terms and conditions” but no response of me having agreed to any subscription. These guys are out to make a quick buck and are not interested in the sutra. Detachment of material things is the opposite of its corporate agenda of capitalism.

Beware! A wolf in sheep’s clothing!

I removed Sutara the day the free trial ended and did not subscribe but was charged anyway. Ok, maybe it’s a time difference thing but now I’ve been charged again but not through Apple but by the developer directly. So I’ve paid for two months ($50) and got a week’s worth of Sutara . Some good stories but I do not feel it’s worth $25 bucks a month and certainly not if it is such a hassle to unsubscribe. Please STOP charging me!!!Sheesh!!

Beware before downloading

Unless you were sure that you love Sutara, do not download. I downloaded for a free trial and decided within days it was not for me. I canceled Sutara but then charged. I reached out canceled again and they refunded my money. The following month I was charged again and they told me that I canceled the premium subscription, but not the main subscription, and they were refusing to refund my money. I would avoid downloading because canceling is a nightmare.

Do not want this app

Was looking at this app add on FB and was exploring the possibility of getting it but had not decided.
Was checking the payment setup and inputting my info but decided not to finish the signup.
Could not go back and clear anything.
All this app allowed was to go forward and complete the transaction. There was no navigation back at all really on any part of the page for signing up.
I do not want Sutara and would greatly appreciate this app contacting me to arrange cancellation and a refund.

$$

In my understanding and lived experience of Buddhism, the Buddha’s teachings were never meant to be used as a source of ongoing personal or corporate income. Dhamma is something freely given, supported by dāna, not locked behind a recurring subscription.

I fully understand that building and maintaining an app costs money, and charging a one-time fee for the tool itself is reasonable. But making continued access to the Buddha’s teachings dependent on monthly or yearly payment goes against the spirit of the Dhamma.

The Buddha taught freely so that everyone — regardless of wealth, language, or background — could access the path. Turning that access into a subscription risks excluding sincere seekers and commodifying something that should never be sold.

I share this not out of hostility, but out of care for the integrity of the Buddha’s teaching and for those who wish to learn but cannot afford ongoing fees.

Vary the voice and speed

At first, I was excited because this is exactly what I enjoy listening to. I’ve been a com subscriber for many years and this could’ve been a great new option.

I also like the idea that the stories were short, like 10 minutes. However, I do not care for the voice and every story. I listen to has the same voice. In addition, the voice is speaking pretty fast. At least when I listen to stories on Audible, I can’t slow the voice down.

For Sutara to succeed, I really need to use a variety of voices and potentially slow the voices down.

Good stories. Be careful of the Premium “scam”

The stories are exactly as billed. Great parables that help you think about complex things in a new way. Unfortunately, you will get a month of free “Premium“ stories. They will not warn you when the trial period ends and you will be charged an exorbitant amount. Don’t fall for this. Customer Service will not let you cancel.

I would love to keep but

I think I would really enjoy Sutara , but the voice plays way too fast. I had a hard time understanding it. Could you please add a speed adjustment option? That would make a huge difference!

Great for kids and adults

My daughter and I listen together before bed. The kids’ section is really nice, and the stories are simple but meaningful. It’s become our favorite bedtime ritual.

Recommend!!

thank you for such content! I always listen to it before going to bed and it really helps me fall asleep. My brain starts playimg the picture that the story is about and I switch from my everyday problems). So I strongly recommend it to anyone who is looking for something similar

Very calming and peaceful

Sutara helps me relax after a long day. The stories are short and full of wisdom, and the soft rain background sound is my favorite. I sleep better now.

Learning

I find the stories great reminders and new perspectives of the moral teachings I was brought up with. I like the techniques that are taught in the teachings and calm they set in my thinking . Very enjoyable and inspiring.

lots of stories

Super convenient app lots of stories to choose from and there is even a separate folder just for sleeping
