Take a Name LDS Family History Reviews

TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory has enabled me to take over 250 names to do baptisms over the last few months, and I will surely use it for other temple ordinances when that’s an option. I currently use two LDS accounts to find names for - mine and my stepfather’s - and while TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory isn’t built for account hopping, it’s not a big ordeal nonetheless.

In response to an earlier review concerned about the 100-ordinance limit: that’s the number TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory will let you have reserved, total. Because I cannot perform ordinances beyond baptism and confirmation yet, it was necessary to unreserve some sealings and such to be able to reserve more baptisms.

I am so grateful TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory exists! I will be using the (optional) donate feature very soon. Thank you so much. Many of my ancestors owe you. :)

Take a Name is super easy to use. If your family search account is open and you are linked to your generations, TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory finds the names of ancestors already on your family lines who are missing ordinances for you. "All of my family history is done" so it's hard to sift through the many ancestral lines to find someone to do work for. This does the hard part of searching! I do a bit of research to make sure the names it finds are accurate and not duplicates or otherwise erroneous. Super easy to reserve the name cards. Also a good tool to see when someone else has added family names to your tree so you can find sources and do additional research. Love TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory!

I truly love the concept of TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory. I used it for the first time and was super excited that I could reserve a name, make the card a pdf, and get it printed at the temple in a couple of minutes. It made temple work feel so easy. BUT, it only works if you are sure all information is correct on your family search tree. I realized this when I told my friend about TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory; she got her name printed only to realize that there was a possibility of a duplicate on her family search. Fearfully, I looked back at my family tree and noticed that the name I was provided by TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory was actually one that had an unresolved issue. She had 3 different sets of parents written on her bio. So I don’t even know if I did the correct ordinance for her.
I HIGHLY advice anyone using TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory to verify on their family search before reserving and printing the name.

TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory is truly the missing link between Temple Work and Genaeology. Take a Name streamlines hours of manual searching work into one neat, easy search that runs in the background!

My only suggestion for improvement would be to allow for more than 100 search results - perhaps as a paid subscription? My queue is currently full as I do ordinance work that is time consuming, but I could be doing other precursory work in the meantime and would pay a monthly fee to have more or more filtered search results.

I was using TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory and the interface is so easy to navigate and I have such an easy time doing so. I mean, I'm laying on a couch in the middle of the Rocky Mountains on vacation and I can say I did family history thanks to TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory.

My favorite part is the internal Google Map where you can see where each ancestor is from and how they are related to you. I loved seeing all my ancestors from Norway and Germany. It was quite an experience and I'm very excited to get these names done.

I am a college student and I couldn't be happier with an app that helped me in my family history.

TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory has been incredible. I showed everyone in my family history class TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory and it really sparked a desire to take family history work to the temple simply because it is so easy to use! My favorite feature is how I can reserve temple work within TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory which will then automatically transfer over to my FamilySearch account.

TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory blows programs like Puzzilla and Hope Chest out of the water! The problem is that these software programs are expensive and/or have an interface that aren't user friendly.

I have used TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory to find and take family names to the temple, but I have been a bit concerned as I have dug deeper into family history that some of the names being generated for ordinances have no record of a death date, meaning there is no way to know if they died in infancy, which would mean temple ordinances are not necessarily needed, for some of the names TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory is coming up with. I am just wondering how the names are found generated. It seems that reliance on TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory is making people think they are doing needed temple work for ancestors that really don’t need it. How sure are you that these ordinances are really needed? Is TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory generating unnecessary ordinances?

I’ve always found it quite hard to thread through my family tree for family members who still need ordinances done, but TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory has truly helped me find those lost family members that I now can do the work for. I thought I was caught up until I did the search on TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory and found I have many family members ordinances that I still need to finish! I am so grateful I found TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory & hope to spread the word to my young generation who would also find TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory helpful and easy!

I really like TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory but it does not want to load. Can we get this fixed asap

TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory is a godsend (literally: sent to us from God!), if you want to take a family name to the temple! Before I go to the temple, I open TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory, which finds me a temple ready name from my family. I hit print, stop by the printer to pick up my name slip on my way out the door, & then my temple experience is for someone in my own family tree! There is no other fam hx app that does this. Others may find names of ppl who need work done, but not Family Search certified, temple ready names. You'll love it!

I am completely amazed by TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory! It did an extensive search of over 80,000 records and found a number of ancestors who still needed ordinances done. It linked easily with Family Tree and reserving and printing out cards was shockingly easy. I am so excited to finally have some of my own family names to take to the temple!!

TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory is great and I really enjoy the simplicity this gives me in doing my family work. My issue is that I keep getting an error, and nothing will load. Searches,reservations, etc. How can I fix this? I logged out of it to try and fix it, now it won’t let me log back in. Thank you

Just what I hoped would come to help me find family names. Save lots of time. Like that you pay what you think it’s worth to you. I payed a little extra to help get TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory off the ground. I would recommend it to all LDS users. Give it a try for free and see what it can do help you

I found 20 names I didn't know existed! My only problem is, I wish you could do more than 20 names at a time.
TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory is super easy to use but it does take all day to find 20(at least for me). You can put filters on what you want it to search for and everything.

Where I'd felt apprehensive to begin family history, TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory makes it so easy. TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory does all of the work for you. Takes less than a minute to enter your login credentials and perform a search, and TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory generated over 20 names and ordinances and outlined how I was related to the individuals. Very satisfying.

Genealogy is NOT Family History.

This just picks the low hanging fruit from your family tree. That’s great! Use it when you got to the Temple and haven’t found any names from your own research.

The temptation is to use this instead of FamilySearch where more of the hard work and investigation takes place which leads up to temple work.

TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory is super easy to use! It's such a great concept. Within a few minutes it had found several names with multiple ordinances to be done. I would definitely recommend TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory to everyone interested in taking names to the temple!

Take-a-Name allows users to print names for the temple that aren’t researched, aren’t sourced and haven’t been properly prepared for temple work. It has resulted in duplicate work being done. The better choice (if you’re not able to do the genealogy work yourself) is to use “Ordinances Ready” through FamilySearch. Ordinances Ready uses names that have been researched, sourced, prepared and shared with the temple system. Duplicates are still possible but far less likely than using the Take-a-Name app.

Wow. Great app. Works so fast. I’ve seen it find ancestors for people who were absolutely sure all their family work was done. Searches tens of thousands of names and finds what you are looking for. Try it. It works.

Painless solution to an all-too-common problem. I thought all my family's ordinances were done, but Take A Name searches TENS OF THOUSANDS of your ancestors (surprisingly quickly) and dig up ordinances that it would take you years to find. DOWNLOAD NOW.

TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory has been truly helpful and my family uses it all the time. I bought it since it it so good. The only thing that could make it better is if you could select multiple names and then request them. Also, once reserved, if you could print multiple names per sheet of paper instead of one per sheet. My work around has been to request them one by one on TakeaNameLDSFamilyHistory and then go into Family Tree and print all of the ones that I’ve reserved, since Family Tree let’s me print multiple names per sheet.
