Great start - lots of potential to grow

Spark is just getting started, so of course it doesn’t have a lot of games/puzzles yet. Just three new ones per day. But, based on other apps this company does, I have no doubt it will be amazing.

You get fun daily themes to learn little tidbits and facts about any topic.

One improvement I hope they implement, since the premise of Spark is learning — in games where you sort the cards, it’ll say “click the card to learn more”. So, let’s say, the game reveals that a vampire squid has a beak. So you think, wow what? And you click on the card. All it will tell you is the name of the animal/object/place and some super basic facts - animals will usually say where they live, type of animal, and if they are endangered. A country will say its population and capital and a few basic statistics. BUT THE CARDS DO NOT ELABORATE ON THE FACT IN THE GAME YOU JUST LEARNED! You just get abstract facts and no more context. The “this or that” and “chrono” games give you great information. The “links” game gives you almost nothing. I hope they improve this in the future.

Great app concept, but the themes need improvement

I really enjoy Spark and the concept behind it—I discovered it through Elevate. The design is great and I haven’t experienced bugs, but I’m having trouble keeping my streak consistent, partly because of the themes.

I use Spark as a way to learn interesting things while taking a break from the heavy news cycle. Today’s theme was “Dumpster Fire” and many of the facts focused on pollution and environmental damage, which is an incredibly depressing topic right now.
I would guess that majority of people using Spark are smart enough to already know that pollution is a major issue. I just don’t think this target market wants to see more of that, when in the news we’re seeing that the US has eliminated any efforts to combat climate change and pollution. It’s not going well. And then other days the theme is like “Spoon” ???

It would be awesome if themes occasionally aligned with international holidays. Today is International Women’s Day, which could have been a great opportunity to highlight influential women throughout history. Couldn’t help but notice that in the Chrono game today, most of the facts were about men. The only reference to a woman was a meme… not a historical fact.

There are so many fascinating and inspiring moments in history that could make great themes or just the facts within the games. Especially on meaningful dates like International Women’s Day.

Sharing this because I genuinely like Spark and would love to see the themes become more uplifting. Curious if this was intentional or something the team might consider in the future.

No Sounds?

The learning aspect is great, but no sound at all? Maybe my settings are off, but unlike other apps such as elevate, this does app not have any fun sounds with any of the games. And I wish there was an option or setting to let you remove the “guess” button, so you can see if your responses are correct in real time like the chrono game. It’s annoying to have to wait. It would be faster and smoother to see your answers in real time vs. pressing the “guess” button to see if you’re correct, and then spending time to redo your answers and have to “guess” again. Too time consuming. Hopefully with future updates, these design and function kinks can be worked out.

Another standout app from this talented developer!

As a daily user of Elevate, I was genuinely thrilled to learn that the developers were creating a new app. Unlike Elevate, which primarily focuses on reading, writing, math, and retention skills, this app offers something fresh and exciting. With a wide array of engaging categories in science, history, pop culture, and more, it feels like a delightful breath of fresh air. I’ve really been enjoying it so far and can’t wait to see what future updates will bring! Until then, I can already tell that this app will be a wonderful addition to my daily routine. If you’re as eager to expand your knowledge as I am and want to keep your mind sharp while impressing your friends with fun trivia, I wholeheartedly recommend downloading both Spark and Elevate!

And I thought I was smart?

I have played this app since it debuted this week and have enjoyed my progressive failures. I have done well in This or That. I do moderately well in Chrono. Placing every day events in the historical timeline accurately has defeated me several times and I’ve only played 6-7 times. And the Linked category, oh my. I have truly enjoyed being challenged in this one. Trying to correctly place the cards in the ‘links’ has made me think hard and still not quite grasp the nuances that are in the links. Try Spark for yourself and see how well you do.

my daily self care ritual

can’t say i’ve ever reviewed an app before, can’t say i’ve ever joined an app’s reddit or discord pages before either. but Spark is something else. i loved it enough to get the developers other application as well and pay for the premium versions. i learn something new every day, at the same time i never feel stupid or dumb and often surprise myself at the knowledge i am able to recollect from classes i took years ago. this is really a treasure trove of good development, learning, information, and a love for trivia all in one. really grateful for the creators for making something so genuinely enjoyable. for someone who desperately tries to find things to enjoy in the day, this is a consistent small thing to look forward to. like if duolingo was actually fun or something.

Fun!

Spark is so much fun - 3 games (for now) that each test your knowledge in fun and different ways, all around a central theme.

This or That is quite clever: it asks you to put things in one of two categories, but which category you choose is a bit tricky. Today’s game was “poison” or “type of car.” Requires a bit of thinking! Also love how tactile it is, and how well written the facts are. Seems like the writers are having fun! Looking forward to playing again tomorrow!

Able to actually do something without paying money!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Let me tell ya, I am getting so sick and tired of downloading new apps and taking the time to sign up for whatever they make me sign up for only to find out that you have to pay for a subscription of some sort to do anything on the “FREE” app 🙄😒

This is NOT the case with Spark, you don’t have to pay a dime if you don’t want to 🥳🎉

Plus, I have actually learned quite a lot playing on Spark…. I’m about it 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Enjoyable, knowledge based puzzles!

I love learning new and useful information regularly: it’s like a tiny bit of encyclopedia knowledge on similarly related topics, but in game form.

There’s at least 4 different games with cards…ones where you sort the cards by two different categories, and then get to learn about the topic in several sentences/interesting facts afterward.

In another, you can put cards with events on these topics in chronological order.

There’s knockout”, where you compare which object/topic is the most (blank).

I like how there’s scientifically or historically accurate photos/diagrams /pictures with each card, which sometimes can be its own clue.

You can go back and see previous days topics (they’re different every day), though the games format is the same.

I paid for the year membership b/c it’s worth it!

Spark is so fun and informational!

I’ll be honest…I was not sure I was going to care for this app, but someone told me to try it for about a week. Now, I cannot end my day without completing it! What I like about it most is the variety of different subjects and topics it focuses on. I may not know anything about a topic, but by the end of the daily game, a have added a great deal of knowledge on a subject that I would have not thought to investigate! If you want to expand your knowledge of the world around you, play this game.

Great mind game

Like to play this new mind game. It has different topics each day. It consists of 3 different type games that you have to either put events in chronological order, match different cards with different clues, or match different cards under two different headings. The games gives you some hints if you need them. It also has quits if but if different knowledgeable facts and figures throughout the game. If you want to challenge your mind to different topics and sayings then you found the right game.

Edu-tainment!

I love puzzle games, and this one seems like the first to actually be contributing something to my knowledge rather than just taking up my time. I’ve played it for 36 days straight now.

Also, I don’t know if this is in any way, scientifically accurate, but I feel like the breaks of information in between each section sort of mitigate the effects of the dopamine hit, so it’s not quite so addictive. I really like playing it, but I don’t a feel compulsion to keep going beyond the game of the day like I do with other games.

Also, KnockOut is a great new game.

Obsessed already!!

From the very first level, I was hooked by the clean visuals, smooth design, and clever mix of challenge and learning. The three puzzle types—Links, Chrono, and This or That—keep things fresh and make every game feel unique. I love how the themes range from science and history to pop culture, so you’re always learning something new while having fun. The balance is perfect: easy to pick up for a quick brain boost but still satisfying and thought-provoking. The reward system with medals and knowledge points adds a nice touch without feeling pushy, and the lack of intrusive ads makes the experience even better. Overall, this app is the perfect combination of smart, relaxing, and addictively fun. Highly recommend it to anyone who loves puzzles or wants to make their screen time feel a little more meaningful.

Such an amazing app, would highly recommend!!

Spark is something that I came about randomly, but it is genuinely one of my favorite apps I’ve ever gotten. I appreciate how, despite there only being 3 games a day, it is not overly addictive (like how some games/apps try to be). It is something that makes me want to learn new things! A few more mini games would be wonderful, but even how it is now is perfect. It gives off NYT games, but with more learning and enjoyability (and overall just better!).
In the future, please keep this a low stakes sort of app! I love having the calmness of Spark that entices you not by rewards/slot machine activity/solely daily streaks, but by the actual activity of learning about new topics.

Thank you so much to every developer for Spark!! You all are pearls in the sea of mediocre games.

More good content

this app offers more of the same colorful and user friendly educational content that its sibling app Elevate does, just more focused in on puzzles, offering a specific theme each day from a different expert. There are three games available, a fourth to come at some point, but I’ve already learned some fascinating things from the existing games. Similarly to elevate, I can’t recall too many ads (I did become a lifetime subscriber to Elevate after a while), the only pay wall I’ve encountered is to access my archive of finished puzzles, which I have no interest in yet.

Perfect Daily Moment of Curiosity and Fun

this app has quickly become an integral part of my daily routine— a few minutes where I can relax and learn things at the same time. There’s always something to make me laugh, gasp, and go looking to learn more. I also adore the HUMAN team of contributors and devs. Spark is intuitive, just right amount of challenging, and structured to provide a healthy amount of play per day (though if you’re like me, you may end up down a research rabbit hole afterwards). I’ve already recommended this to others and will continue to do so. If you like a little learning and a little fun incorporated into your day, definitely download this app.

Super fun puzzle game! I feel smart!

I pre-ordered this game because I thought the title puzzles for smart people was super cute! Well, I’m super glad I did! My husband and daughter have now played and both enjoy it very much!

My two favorite things about Spark are:
1) The format of the games is unique and challenging, yet it somehow manages to keep you guessing. Despite there only currently existing three modes of play, the gamemakers thoughtfully choose categories to ensure variety.
2) After each round, there is a brief informative section that is optional for you to review relevant to the day’s theme. For those who would like to learn more about things they don't know, it provides an opportunity to do so!

Fun, Informative, and NOT Addictive!

I love a game that teaches me something new, and I also love one that doesn’t have ads, doesn’t require me to pay to “win”, and most importantly, isn’t an addictive time-suck. Because Spark only has 3 new puzzles each day, I literally can’t spend more than 10 minutes on it. In a culture of apps that are designed to keep you obsessively using them for hours each day, Spark is so refreshing. I also really appreciate that every puzzle is curated and written by human beings. I’m so done with AI slop and I love seeing things that are written by people who are passionate about the topics they’re writing. Everyday, I leave this app having learned something new, and feeling refreshed.

Truly educational!!

I adore Spark!! The editors are so funny. As an English major and an avid learner, I find this game deeply satisfying. It’s a dependable well for truly fun facts! And who knows what I don’t know! I’m tickled by all the fun wordplay. The simplicity of the games and clean design make it extra enjoyable. I appreciate that the ads are completely unobtrusive in the free version, making it something I still enjoy doing every day!

I learned about Spark through Elevate and got to be a beta user. I’ve enjoyed it from day one! It’s right up there with the NYT games in my daily brain-treat :)

Can I write y’all a thank you note?? I just think what you’ve made is so fun and awesome and I kind of have a quiet dream to join the team? 👉👈 lmk if you need an extra hand 👀

One of my favorite apps

Love Spark. I open it daily to do the games. Well researched topics full of fun info, both useful and useless. Spark is why I understand how magnets work, something I am glad I understand for a general world understanding but knowledge I would have never sought out myself. I especially love that the topics are often themed to the day such as Olympic gold medals on the day of the Olympic opening ceremonies.

My only complaint is that I want a version for kids.
