PenCake - simple notes, diary Reviews

One of my favorite apps, and arguably the best diary/journaling app. With the 1-time buy of premium instead of a subscription model, and what it offers, it really shows the developers also care for more than just money.

The only thing missing from this near-perfect package is an option for the theme of PenCake to automatically follow the system’s theme, switching between dark and light just as the phone does.

That’s all.

THE INSULT: Waiting ten months for a trivial update that added a few fonts while basic functionality goes ignored, such as font formatting (requested repeatedly). THE INJURY: Turns out the developer is using third-party crashlytics, etc. to collect “anonymized” user data such as OS and session duration—presumptively and presumptuously, i.e., without my permission. A good program initially, but the anemic update history and privacy intrusions have hurt it. Will be looking for a replacement with better functionality, more committed and responsive development, and zero privacy incursions.

PenCake is fantastic. I paid for the premium almost immediately because it’s so lovely. The design is absolutely beautiful and the functionality is almost perfect. I would like a “tab” button in the hot bar (for indenting paragraphs) because I use PenCake for novel writing. It would also be wonderful to be able to switch the articles between a chronological view and a manually sorted view. :D

I really like PenCake. It is very clean, organized and stylish in the most simplistic way! I do ask for one thing if possible...next time, can you please try to add a side menu to see all the stories and articles listed? I think that will make it easier for me to select which story I want to be in and find articles that I wrote in the past....anyway, I really recommend this to everyone!

I'm giving this five stars. I don't care what bad things anyone has to say. PenCake is so lovely. It's like when someone insults an kind granpa. PenCake has helped me through thick and thin, with depression. Depression kinda gotta in the way of me writing down my thoughts. But I enjoy PenCake even though it does pain me to write sometimes. It is easy to use and I have nothing bad to say about it. Usually all apps have quirks. But not this one. Much love and appreciation. <3

(TLDR @ bottom!) I love, love PenCake! I’d been trying to find a writing app for a really long time. I stumbled upon this app and fell in love!

Thanks to this app, I’m actually writing and making progress. I’ve had PenCake for a while now, and finally got the premium. Personally, I wouldn’t pay 5.99 for an app, but here’s why I did.
1. One time payment
2. Unlimited stories
3. Night mode
4. More things to come, yay
5. And the biggest reason I did it: TO SUPPORT PenCake !!

TLDR? I love PenCake. Free, easy to use, no ads. Premium gives you more writing chances, is a one time payment, and supports this awesome app.

I don't know what it is about PenCake, but it's really calms me. I'm a story writer, and to prep my stories I write them on PenCake. Of course I don't have the premium, because I'm poor but j want to get it because I want to make more stories, but since I use PenCake to wrote stories I end up pasting it and reusing the story so it pretty good. And I like the swiping to next article to the next. I love PenCake over all.

Amazing looks and the simplicity.
The only thing to make this a 5 star for me is the option to share stories without losing the interface.
Since I love the layout of PenCake, I can only hope for a function to share what I’ve written as shown in PenCake as well.

I adore PenCake, it's helped me so much with organizing notes and such, and it's very easy to use. The minimalist design is perfect. My only suggestions are to change the "edit date" feature so that articles can simply be dragged and dropped into order and to allow basic typing features like bold, italic, and hyperlink.

A phenomenal writing platform, however, for myself, the cancel option is placed where I am so used to saving the document, as well as the data would not be backed up for awhile after you have written in a ‘story’ or a document.

PenCake is incredibly amazing, I love how clean it is because it helps me to feel calm in the moment I write; I would love that it also have an web app so I could write in my laptop too and synch my stories…, for now i absolutely love this.

I love PenCake, it’s so simple and organized at the same time. The only problem is that for some reason I can’t sync on my iPad Pro, the process bar just never moves. If this problem gets fixed I will be more than happy to purchase the premium.

Apostrophes. For some reason using an apostrophe forces a quadruple space that you can’t undo. I left an example of what it looks like in the subject line. It’s such a distraction in PenCake ’s otherwise clean and streamlined presentation. Please please please fix this!

Love how simple this platform is. The aesthetic is great! I notice on the Google Play Store version that font can be left justified. Is there a way to add that feature to the apple version? Looks like it’s just able to be center justified or fully justified at the moment.

I would definitely recommend PenCake to anyone who wants a simple, minimalist, clean journaling app. No unnecessary features, which I love, and everything is organized very well. Definitely plan on using PenCake for a long time!

The text alignment make me annoyed. I don't like the bi-alignment, so I tried left-alignment. However, PenCake moves the texts slightly to fill the space even on left alignment setting. Why? There is no different between left and bi alighment except left alignment make words cut and split to next line... That is not a left-alignment, I think...

I can’t wait to start writing again. I’m personally a very minimalistic person and I fell in love with PenCake right away. I feel like this is what I’ve been waiting for. Thank you!

Such a great app for writing! I’m writing a story right now and PenCake has inspired me to write more. It can be used as a diary, a journal, and even a novel writer! Great app! I recommend PenCake to everyone and anyone who has a passion for writing!

I downloaded this for my work phone (Android) and immediately knew I had to get it on my iPhone. It’s so pretty. The UI take a little getting used to at first, but once you get the hang of it you’re good to go. There’s no lag, it’s not clunky. PenCake looks minimalistic but it’s not as bare bones as you might think. I truly hope the developers haven’t forgotten about PenCake. It has SO much potential, it almost reminds me of Day One. I’m a writer so I mostly use it for a couple general notes and notes on my stories/articles but if you wanted to this could def be used as a journal. I actually have a few suggestions if PenCake made another version tailored to writers like Popped where you can specifically write character lines.
Anyway, I wrote this review because I know developers appreciate them and I hope this gives a little insight into the user experience for future developments! Like I said PenCake could go so far but it’s very, very nice as it is now. I look forward to continuing to use it plus seeing new features! 😊

App is good and all but the sync has some issues since I use it on my iPhone and iPad Pro both on 12.4 latest update but it doesn’t sync everything or it hasn’t sync my latest writing.

I know that we can add backgrounds like our Photos the White is Beautiful but it’s boring
