Was excited about it but not anymore

2024-10-15

So I’ve been using CalAI every day for the last three weeks
first thing I have to say is it’s super inaccurate I just end up editing the calories and the protein and everything else manually by looking it up on Google inputting the numbers into CalAI .

Secondly, the taking the photos of the food thing is absolutely terrible and does not work as intended and definitely not accurate

Third, it cost money and it’s not worth it

Fourth, even when I try to put a description of the food like 18 ounce steak it will show me a calorie count of 23,000 which I have no idea why. You would think after I correct it multiple times the AI would fix itself but this thing does not learn. It just keeps inputting the same data it’s collected from prior it does not constantly learn and update the data.

I really wish I can get my money back because this was a waste might as well just write the stuff in a notebook

Need More Options - Do not want the calories applied back

2024-10-13

CalAI has an integration function into Apple which allows it to show your steps and calories burned in workouts. This is great HOWEVER, when it tells you the calories you burn, it adds the burned calories back into the dietary breakdown. This SHOULD NOT be done, or at the very least an option to reintroduce the burned calories into the diet should be selectable. When this is changed I will certainly change the review. But this is a huge error since more than half my life I’ve been active and I’ve never once seen it recommended to diet/track food intake and include the estimated calories burned back into the diet. Huge misstep.

Can’t Even Get Started

2024-06-17

I get to the very last step, and I can’t even click “Let’s Go.” It registers my taps, but nothing happens. Also, don’t ask for a review before I even get a chance to actually use CalAI .

Why is this app free?

2024-06-17

Why would you make CalAI free then demand payment for “unlimited access?” If you need to pay in order to even open up CalAI , why did you make CalAI free to download.

Paying before trying??

2024-06-17

This is why CalAI is not successful. People need to try it first before paying. I am not wasting 10 dollars without trying CalAI first.

Extremely inaccurate

2024-06-20

Hello,
I was super excited about the idea behind CalAI since it would save a lot of time, but thankfully I’ve memorised how many calories most foods include and realised that 90% of the time the calories are inaccurate and way off. I would even try writing down the ingredients one by one and it would still be inaccurate.
Calories for a meal so simple like eggs was even way off, even after writing down how many eggs!!
Complete waste of money, don’t suscribe unless your okay with having an inaccurate calorie counter.

Very basic and not worth paying for

2024-09-29

I paid for the whole year and wish I could get my money back because of how simple CalAI is. What pulled me in was that I could take a picture of a meal and have the macros and calories come up. As a busy mom this was going to be super helpful but when I compared the numbers to what was actually on my plate it was highly inaccurate so now I don’t use the feature at all.

Also, you can’t adjust the amount of an item to a specific amount. For example the portion will jump to 1 portion to 1.5 but never explaining what a portion is. Are we talking cups, grams, ounces??? What if I’m having 1.25?

I tried to save the items I take multiple times a week so that I don’t have to enter it each time but it doesn’t saved.

CalAI doesn’t provide totals for the macros eaten. Sure I can do the math or take out a calculator but if you’re charging money to use CalAI , please include the calories and macros eaten along with what’s remaining.

I was wondering I didn’t get a free trial but now I know that if I had the free trial, I wouldn’t have paid to use CalAI .

Took my money and now won’t function

2024-10-13

I paid for the subscription so I could use CalAI. First off, as soon as I paid, CalAI froze and wouldn’t leave the splash screen. I then restarted it and it made me enter all the info again such as age, gender etc which I had already gone through. Then, it totally glitched with my calories and setting a weight loss goal of 8 pounds by April 2026. That’s 18 months away, what is going on with that? And the macros were all wonky. Finally, I tried logging a food. No matter what food I photographed, CalAI gave an error in processing the photo. Whatever AI it’s supposed to use obviously does not work.

I asked Apple for a refund. As far as I’m concerned CalAI is totally dishonest and I’m steering clear.

Did not receive access to unlimited scanning after payment

2024-07-09

Fully paid for a years worth of unlimited today but I am unable to access the feature after updating. Also why is there no customer service/ support ? I can’t even try to fix this issue if I wanted to.

Not worth the money

2024-06-20

I spent the 50 dollars to have this for a full year and the pictures I take are not even close to being accurate. I still have to update it all manually which I thought was supposed to defeat the purpose. Used it for 24 hours and now I'm out 50 dollars.

Poor

2024-06-17

I was really excited for this. I tested it on a few traders Joe’s products to check the results back to the product labels and they were way off.

Also results varied each time.

I want my $9.99 back please.

Great app, but wish it was free

2024-06-16

Although I’ve heard a lot about CalAI and that it’s great when your trying to lose weight, but have to pay $9.00 a month just to take pictures of your food and count calories is ridiculous. I’d rather just download an app that will serve some purpose without buying it.

VERY inaccurate.

2024-09-29

According to Cal AI, a stick of gum is 75 calories, 4 strawberries are 900 calories, 1 slice of pizza is 600 calories, 1 pickle is 100 calories, 100 grams of ground beef is 800 calories, the list goes on.

Also according to CalAI , I'm supposed to eat more to lose weight, and eat less to gain weight. Huh??

In my opinion the amount of flaws inexcuses the high cost or any cost at all. Like someone else said in their review -- I thought I was getting a deal by getting a yearly subscription, and had they provided a free trial, I would have cancelled immediately after, knowing how inaccurate CalAI is. Yes, it's AI, it's not 100% accurate, so why are you charging people so much? Again, others have said this in their reviews and they are correct in saying this: it would be completely fine for CalAI to still exist as a free service, and with the full disclosure that it is highly flawed.

I'll close with the fact that there's no support phone number, so I've messaged the official instagram account with receipts and they told me to "mkae sure [my] internet connection is stable" without providing me with a refund. Basically, 50 bucks down the drain.

Please y'all, just use myfitnesspal or just weigh your food. I often ask chatgpt for macros, might even be more accurate than CalAI.

Pricing

2024-07-30

I don’t understand why, I can't access any features without paying. It was a waste of time to download it, enter my information, weight, height, and more, only to find out that nothing is usable without selecting a monthly or annual plan. This is completely unfair, especially since there's not even a trial option. It's frustrating that CalAI provides no value upfront but expects consumers to pay immediately.

9.99?

2024-05-29

Why is an ai app charging you a monthly subscription? Should be free or at the very least a one time charge. It's not even fully accurate in it's assessments so I don't know what I'm paying for...

If you are here bc of Huss.bey then read this!

2024-06-05

Please do not download CalAI! You are better off with regular apps that are free, CalAI doesn’t even offer a 3 day trial so you can see what you’re getting yourself into. It all looks good until is time to pay $45 for a year or $9.99 monthly. Prices are not bad however, how can you tell if it will be an investment or a waste of money? You are blindly buying a product that you may not know what it is. If you’re new to cico (calorie counting) then stick to the free apps and then maybe then come for the subscription of CalAI.

Best wishes to the creators.

Very bad for those who have experience tracking cals/macros.

2024-09-07

Unfortunately, CalAI doesn’t work as you would want it to… for starters, it’s core functionality is terrible. Take a photo to log, “okay cool”, but the cal count is way off. Try to adjust it with the refine tool? Doesn’t work, just re runs the prompt instead of training the AI.

The exercise portion is poor as well. I golfed 18 holes yesterday. My Whoop says I burned 745 kcal, iPhone says 720 = Average 733… Prompt Cal AI, “I played 18 holes of golf. The course was fairly hilly. It took me 5 hours to play” … Cal AI: “1,350 calories burned.” - I thought, okay, let’s change it to 9 holes to cut in half, that will be closer… nope… AI changes it to 333 cals.

The point being is this, if you are someone who wants to inaccurately track nutrition, this is a great app for you. If you’re serious about tracking, use MFP or MyPlate and take the time to get it right.

Really wish this was good. It’s just not.

This app is not free

2024-06-08

CalAI is not free. You cannot use CalAI without a subscription.

Clunky with No features

2024-07-29

I wish I could get a refund for the $50 bucks I spent. No trial period. App is almost useless. I can moderately identify food and portions but the logging is difficult to navigate… and don’t try to manually enter your foods, you’ll pull your hair out. No extra features. I spent $149 on Noom and I got a camera identifier AND and a weight tracker, AND a coach, AND daily lessons. Don’t waste your money.

Many things don’t work properly

2024-07-09

CalAI itself concept is a great idea, however there are many things that are wrong and make this not worth the money at all, considering there are free ones that work better. 1.) adjusting the amounts on an item that you take a picture of ie grams of fat or protein, does not readjust your calculated total for the day. 2.) when you take a picture of a label, it automatically jumps to the maximum servings which is annoying. You can’t simply type 1 serving either, if there’s 40 servings on that label, you have to tap the - symbol 39 times 😑 3.) taking a picture of the label is not accurate. Numerous times I’ve taken a picture and all it did was add the calories, no grams of protein, no carbs, no fats…. To say the least, CalAI is in BETA and should not be charging people. Instead should be paying us to trouble shoot for them.

you can tell it’s still new

2024-07-29

CalAI is missing a lot of simple functionality: like adding or adjusting the size of ingredients manually. the fix this ai feature is hit or miss, sometimes I’ll tell it to add an ingredient to the list and it’ll delete all the others while adding the new one.

the describe food function works pretty well, but I feel I basically have to type in everything which is no different from other food tracking apps. taking photo’s is pretty solid and definitely what CalAI is meant to be used for.

the biggest issue for me is that there’s no integrations for other apps.

should be free

2024-07-09

CalAI should be free for everyone, specially when scanning foods. There are people like me who are so insecure about there body and I don’t think people should pay $9.99 a month it’s sounds so dumb. My parents are not going to pay an app that won’t even let you see how accurate CalAI is. Please do better and make CalAI be free. Thank you

Issues constantly

2024-07-19

Great app but it seems the dev most be young and takes a lot a time away rather then fixing the bugs. I spent 25$ for a year and it doesn’t allow me to take pictures or scan barcodes or scan labels. I only can describe what it is. 90% of the functions currently do not work.

A waste

2024-08-25

CalAI is super inaccurate and not worth the money in my opinion. The pictures don’t get close with any nutritional information. The describe food option often won’t compute. On a positive not the label reader works well and is usually spot on or within 25 calories. I’m so disappointed with CalAI but I hope all the bugs get fixed so I can use it as intended instead of throwing money away.

No trial option?!!!

2024-07-28

After inputting all of my info, it is incredibly frustrating to find out you CANNOT even try CalAI out before paying. Why would I pay $50, the cheapest option, up front without even trying CalAI ?!! No thanks!!!! I can’t believe people actually shell out the cash without even trying it first!!!

Inaccurate

2024-06-05

CalAI is extremely inaccurate, you’re better off traditionally counting your own calories with a calculator

5 stars

2024-06-05

I love it

The new UI broke updating records

2024-06-08

CalAI is great, but the new update broke a lot of the features. What I really like about CalAI versus other AI trackers: - easy to make on the fly adjustments to calories/macros without having to create custom foods - can take a picture of a nutrition label and the AI model will pretty much grab the calories and macros from that - minimal taps required to log food compared to other similar apps And here’s what I don’t like: - need to rotate my phone horizontal to delete entries now (UI bug) - can’t view entries before yesterday (I think this was changed in the update) - no way to favorite common meals or copy/paste foods that I regularly eat everyday - doesn’t recognize my birthday as a real day (8/31). Will gladly update my review once these are fixed!

Inaccurate results

2024-06-25

The concept is really cool, but the results are not accurate. I made a meal of eggs, tomatoes, nuts, and oranges laid out clearly on a cutting board. The results from the AI were half the calories of the measured out results on a scale. Bummer.

Needs some work

2024-09-15

After using for a while now, have to say CalAI is great for restaurants where you have no idea about the calories, but some foods it is totally inaccurate on and even some barcodes it gets totally wrong. If I had a suggestion, I would fix the barcode problem. And add a system that calculates the calories when you edit the carbs, protein, and fats. Like I can’t have a 100 calorie food with 50 grams of protein, so it should automatically change the calories after I edit the macros. Hope this gets integrated.

Good app but very inaccurate

2024-08-15

I loved using CalAI while I was paying for it, but it’s not as accurate as I would like it to be, simple meals were way under on calories, eating at fast food restaurants is where you can the most. Overall good but just wish it would be more accurate for what you’re paying, at times it felt like the commodity of the picture taking was taken away by having to fact check and edit the calculations. Hope to come back once the calculations get better I enjoyed using it while I did

NEEDS EXERCISE FEATURE

2024-07-09

CalAI would be rated higher by me if it had an exercise feature that you could input the exercise you did and how long and it would subtract the calories from your meals so your remaining calorie count would be more accurate. i told them this but they didn’t do it yet.

App innacuracy

2024-06-16

I find CalAI is insanely inaccurate at times , it lacks a lot of features the barcode scanner doesn’t even work

Can’t adjust weight goal!!

2024-06-16

With the new UI I tired to change my weight goal and it wont let me!! At all. Could you please fix this ASAP. Thanks everything else is nice

Describing food WIDLY inaccurate

2024-08-24

The option to take a picture of your food is pretty accurate as far as macros/calories. I’ve counted calories and macros for many years of my life and it seems to be pretty close. However, if you’re using the describe food option it’s horrible. For example, I typed in 8oz burger patty and it’s calculating it at over 4k calories. The barcode scanner is very accurate and I’d give the food label scanner a 5/10. Not great.

Just not great at what it’s supposed to do

2024-07-19

it’s not awfully inaccurate, and i’m sure it’s better for some meals than others, but I find myself having to correct most meals. not terrible but I thought the whole idea was that you didn’t have to do that part.

Needs work

2024-08-24

I’ve been enjoying CalAI , but there’s a concern with consistency. Specifically on photo scanning and “describe food”. Multiple occasions where I went to use this function on the same item or described it the same way and it’s given me different results. Other than that, it’s simple and user friendly.

Good so far

2024-08-16

I’m starting my weight loss journey and I decided to give CalAI a try and honestly it seems good. I think it’s new so I will give it some advice to maybe a feature to give better alternatives when you eat something that’s not healthy. And I am so excited to see that exercise log that’s coming soon!

Love this but have a bit low accuracy.

2024-08-16

CalAI is really great but when it comes to determine the amount of calories that is in a product, the accuracy is very low.
It’s seems like the data of the food wasn’t used with Google or any other websites that determine the amount of calories that is in the food.

Good App, Could Use Some Improvements

2024-09-15

First off, I am enjoying CalAI. The price is reasonable and the tracking seems to be moderately accurate… however there is a few things I think should be added. Firstly, I would love to see more specific macros including sugar and more, not simply fats, proteins, carbs, and calories. I would love to be able to dive into the specifics of CalAI . Also, the weight tracking should include the decimal number. That would be better. If there could be a widget allowing us to shortcut to CalAI from a Lock Screen or something that would be cool as well, I.e. MyFitnessPal. Saved foods is a great addition and I’m sure logging workouts will be as well. One thing that would be REALLY nice would be if instead of just showing how much protein, for example, we have left it showed how much we have had for the day as well. I mean sure I can subtract goal from amount left or whatever but it would still be a nice addition.

That’s all I can think of now, and otherwise I really like CalAI and I’m sure it can improve in the near future.

Great except…

2024-07-19

CalAI has so so much potential. Finally I feel like there is a way for me to track calories without having to spend 5 minutes before each meal looking up information about all of the ingredients.

My only major issue is that in their “fix this” feature that is intended to correct anything the photo analysis got incorrect, it seems to never adjust macros or calories. For example, I had pretzel sticks which the ai incorrectly analyzed as French fries. I used the “fix this” feature to inform CalAI they were actually pretzel sticks, and CalAI changed the title to pretzel sticks, but did not adjust the calories or macros. Normally the AI gets the meal and portion correct on the first run through, but any time it doesn’t, this is an issue.

If they were able to fix this it would be literally the perfect app. Genuinely such a great idea and the implementation is so close!

Good app but

2024-07-09

Good app, I think the price is reasonable and I got it for a year recently, however I’m experiencing some problems with the accuracy. I don’t think 4 boiled eggs are 1,010 calories and I don’t think a tuna bagel is 2k calories…

Great app, still has a few bugs

2024-10-15

I love CalAI. It’s the first calorie tracking app that I’ve actually been able to stick with because of how convenient it is. CalAI itself is very well thought out and the AI (most of the time) does a pretty decent job at calculating calories. I would give it 5 stars but there are a few bugs that I think need to be worked out first. The description option under each submission to help clarify the picture can be a little finicky. Last time I tried it, it changed all of the macros to 999. Other than some AI issues that I’m sure will be worked out in the future, it’s a great app overall and you can tell the developers know what people want. I would recommend CalAI to anyone who struggles with staying consistent with a diet.

Convenient and Effective, But Could Use Some Tweaks and Features

2024-10-15

I’ve found Cal AI to be very convenient and more accurate than I imagined it could be. It makes tracking calories fast and simple, which has helped me stay on track. I’ve only run into two issues. When I try to fix an item using the fix results feature, it sometimes changes another item that was previously correct. I also wonder if there’s a way to sync CalAI across devices. It could be user error on my part, but logging in on my iPad is a separate instance. I’d love to see more Apple Health integration, like syncing dietary energy and reading weight data automatically. Overall, it’s a solid app that does what it says it will and I’ll continue to use it.

Simple and intuitive app

2024-10-13

Cal AI is a pretty decent application! Makes it really easy for me to either snap a photo or input a brief description of my meals and it will update my caloric intake for my day

Twice I had to change the AI generated results to match more closely to one of my meals, but through updates that will be improved upon.

However, I do have one request. Maybe it’s already available through settings, but whenever I work out using my Apple Watch, all the data is stored within the Apple fitness/health apps. I know other apps can pull that data and apply that to their exercise logs. Would like to see something similar to that integrated. Instead of manually adding.

Such amazing use of A.I.

2024-10-15

I am not one to write reviews, but I felt the need to put some time aside to review this for anyone interested.

CalAI is one of my favorite uses of A.I. that I have seen so far! I have always tried to track what I eat, and CalAI makes that process so much easier and almost fun to track your macros/calories. It has such a sleek interface and is well worth the money for something that you are going to use to improve your eating habits. It is not perfect, but you can make adjustments if necessary and you can explain what was incorrect to help the A.I. improve accuracy. CalAI is a true marvel and I am very pleased with my purchase!

So far so good!

2024-10-10

I’m just now using CalAI with the 80% discount and I have to say, it is surprisingly accurate SO FAR. I scanned a drink and didn’t show the nutritional facts label, just the amount of drink in fluid ounces. After it did its thing, it correctly determined how many calories and sugar the drink had! Will update in a month to see how this goes. Very excited to use CalAI in my journey for better diet and health!

Easiest Tracker App

2024-10-10

This is by far one of the easiest app to track intake and set goals I have used. Pairs well with Apple Watch to track steps/workouts. Love there is multiple ways to log food intake and the real time updates on macros left for the day.
App can be a little buggy, have to close out and reopen, but works after that. 10/10 would recommend!

Love the app, accuracy can always be improved

2024-10-15

Been tracking calories for 6 months and down 80 lbs, switched to CalAI when I started college as the AI is good for tracking bad meal plan food. Was a godsend, my old app had no idea what meal plan garbage I was eating but CalAI allowed me to continue tracking into college, only thing I’d like to see is improved accuracy witch I’m sure they have been working on . (Ie can’t tell the difference between certain types of Indian food when I eat out) but other than certain specifics it is awesome

Worth the money!

2024-10-15

As others have noted, it’s not perfect. BUT, the ease of tracking my meals via pictures and keeping a running log is amazing. And knowing that I need to snap a pic, with the reminders helps me think twice before eating something. And while not perfect, it is pretty darn good! It recognized the protein (chick peas) in my chopped salad! It has been a game changer for me, keeping me thoughtful about my eating and helping me to lose 10 pounds. And it is so much easier than weight watchers or other app tracking. I love it and highly recommend it. Worth the money, for sure!!!

W app.

2024-10-15

It’s a great app honestly it’s super simple to use and the picture feature is like 95% accurate. If the picture isn’t accurate you can just describe the food so either way it’s good. Even if it’s a bit off it won’t really matter much. They just updated CalAI so it has widget feature and shows you all the days you’ve logged your meals so that pretty neat. I say it’s better than fitness pal

This app is a game changer

2024-10-10

CalAI has insane accuracy… no more food scales and taking all the time regular calorie counting apps do. I just take a picture of my meals and move on- perfect for busy people. I have been using CalAI for a few weeks and it has made bulking and building muscle so much easier. And at the price I was offered ($20 a year), this is incredibly worthwhile.

Simple straightforward easy-to-use

2024-10-15

the convenience of logging meals through photos and tracking progress is incredible. Being reminded to snap a picture before eating has made me pause and think twice before grabbing something to eat. CalAI has been a game changer for me, making me more mindful of my meals and helping me eat properly to hit my protein intake enough to gain 5 pounds of muscle . It’s much simpler than using weight watchers or similar tracking apps. I absolutely love it and would recommend it without hesitation. Definitely worth the cost!

Best calorie tracking app!!

2024-10-10

CalAI is so easy to use and is just amazing. I downloaded CalAI about 2 weeks ago, and i’ve already lost 6lbs which for me is amazing. Throughout all my diets i have never been able to lose weight this fast. CalAI has helped me track my cals and know when i’m going over.

Solid

2024-08-24

It’s an easy and cheap solution to myfitnesspal’s ridiculous prices. it does not have as many macros but it still works great. they are probably adding more features in the future. worth it in my opinion.

easy and accurate

2024-08-24

I was skeptical on how CalAI would work but it seems they’re using a new type of technology to scan food images. 10/10 I recommend

Great calorie tracker

2024-10-13

This is a great app, it is simple, very easy to use and has everything. The AI calorie tracker by picture is very accurate. The option to describe your meal works pretty well but could use a bit of updating. Option to input foods even after midnight and have them count for previous day which is great. Generates calorie and macro goals. Very good app and hopefully the developers keep this up.

This app saves me so much time!

2024-05-16

I used to other apps to log my food which required me to type them in manually. Since switching to Cal AI I have saved so much time keeping track of my calories. Thank you guys 💕💕

Phenomenal

2024-07-07

Easy to use and accurate. My biggest issue is measuring my caloric intake. I eat healthy, but sometimes I guess I just eat too much. This is takes the guessing out of it. Thank you.

Awesome app

2024-07-07

CalAI is great, so much easier than my fitness pal. I appreciate that I can just take pictures and don’t need to manually enter anything

Extremely fun to use

2024-07-07

I love CalAI! It’s quite accurate. All you have to do to keep track of your calories and nutrition is to take a photo! So awesome.

Humdinger

2024-07-07

CalAI is certainly a humdinger. I wish I had it back when I was fat. It does exactly what it says it will with extreme accuracy. There are also some other cool features like setting weight goals, etc.

Amazing

Next Level of Excellence

2024-07-07

CalAI is extremely accurate if good photos are taken, and the describe option is extremely reliable if the photo fails to get some of the hidden ingredients. CalAI is godsent for me, as the only thing I really have problems with is food binging sometimes. So I simply scan everything before I eat it. Excellent app, I would rate more than five stars if the option were available to me. 😅

Cool

2024-06-27

I like it

I love it! But one problem...

2024-06-08

I just downloaded CalAI earlier today but I am loving it! It is simple and easy to use. I just have one problem/suggestion: I wish there was integration with Apple Health. When setting it up, you give it your health info like weight or height. This would be much simpler if you could just import them from Apple Health. Also, not many people know this but in Apple Health, you can put in your nutrition information, like some macros and vitamins and stuff like that. I wish CalAI would export the data every day. Even though the nutrition part of this wouldn't be useful (until Apple adds more features that leverage that), It would still be nice to have.

i lovethis app

2024-06-05

i love
CalAI

Amazing

2024-05-23

CalAI is awesome. Calorie tracking has never been easier. In the past I would use apps like myfitnesspal and it was so expensive and inaccurate. Unlike that app Cal AI is easy and super accurate. I highly suggest using CalAI.
