The old version was intuitive, user friendly, and easy to navigate. This new version is terrible. The new version is not intuitive or easy to use and seems to have lost some of its functionality. I am having such a difficult time with it I may switch banks to find a website that is more simple and easy to use. The old website was great the way it was. Why did you need to change it?
Just writing this review resulted in three lost posts while writing them.
The old app when you did an external transfer from a bank outside eastern it would be generally fast showing up into your account. You also had an option to pay $2.50 to expedite the transfer and have your money in 1-2 days. Now it takes an entire week which has put all my bills behind. There were no issues with the old app. Unfortunately I will have to go to a new bank after 20 years as I can’t wait that long for money to be transferred. Also the other bank does not have Zelle which was the other new option with eastern. Very disappointed for the first time with eastern.
I got prompted to download EasternBank as it is the “new” version, fine. I’m fine with something new that works better/ quicker. This new app won’t let me view any of my accounts. I keep getting a error that it “ cannot open work spaces. Please try again”.
If you’re going to make people download a new app, make sure it works first. Now I cannot access my funds or even just view what I have in each account. Very frustrating and annoying. Hope o have enough that I can get through my vacation …
I’m not sure why they even bothered making a whole new app when they could just update the current one. Furthermore, I can’t even log into this one. It consistently says my information is wrong, but even after deleting and reinstalling the old one, it works fine with the exact same info. I can’t even reset my correct password with EasternBank. It’s broken and pointless.
Very frustrating that the new app won’t take my credentials (log-in and password). Using the same as the last app. Tried multiple times. Frustrating to know I’ll be wasting my time on Monday, I’m sure calling to see why this is happening. Many clients have said this is a problem and sad to find out it’s true.
I’m so confused why EasternBank needed to be completely redone. As it has become less user friendly.
On that note, is there a way to make EasternBank interface less dark? It is hard to see the information because the navy blue is so intense on my eyes.
The old app was easy to use and understand, this one seems weird looking.
The migration over to the new app has been the MOST ridiculous transfer of user I’ve ever seen. I’m not speaking just as user/customer I’m a programmer and was in IT for over 12 years. The amount of flood calls you are all dealing with could have been avoided.
UPDATE: After calling and actually not getting someone from tech support during night hours which was actually the time the old app would not let me log in because I was obligated to use the new app I had to wait until the next day. When I tried the new app with my credentials it simply did not work at all. I tried the whole “I forgot my pass” and EasternBank would not do what it is meant to do. I’m not sure what was going on in the backend. I gave up and left it alone for hours. I opened EasternBank and for whatever reason it let me through the process of logging in with a newly created password. Why did it take so long for EasternBank to work properly? (Only you guys know). If it helps I’m using an iPhone 15 Pro Max on iOS 17.4.1.
On a positive note, now that the login issue was solved EasternBank itself looks good and I like the layout.
As a long-time customer of Eastern Bank, I have always appreciated the high level of service provided. However, the recent update to the mobile app has been disappointing. While the new app promises enhanced features, it falls short in several critical areas.
The user interface is not as intuitive as the previous version, making navigation cumbersome and time-consuming. Many of the functionalities that were easily accessible in the old app seem to be either missing or buried under multiple layers, which detracts from the overall user experience.
Additionally, there are frequent glitches and stability issues, causing frustration when trying to perform basic banking tasks. The reliability of EasternBank is crucial for managing finances on the go, and the current version does not meet the expected standards.
To improve, I strongly recommend that Eastern Bank reintegrate all the reliable and user-friendly features from the old app into the new one. Ensuring a seamless transition with a focus on usability and stability will greatly enhance customer satisfaction.
Eastern Bank has always been a pillar of excellent service, and I am hopeful that with these improvements, the mobile app will reflect the same standard.
Are developers going backwards or what these days. Do yourself a favor and take this heap down and let us all use EasternBank NO ONE HAD A PROBLEM WITH. Here I am at 8pm trying to transfer funds to pay bills and I can’t log in due to my credentials being wrong, WHICH THEY ARE NOT! Shame on you for forcing people to switch over without a trial period to get stuff on YOUR END figured out. Meanwhile, no one on hand for late calls due to you changing my banking all around. I called and attempted to move money via the lousy phone service you have, can’t do that either for some reason. You are dealing with peoples money, how about making sure EasternBank you release works before you eliminate EasternBank that actually does work.
The old online banking app was excellent, easy to use and had all the information I needed in one screen. I have many accounts with this app and always made notes for my transactions on EasternBank . None of those notes got transferred to the new app! To make those notes on the new app, you have to click to multiple screens. Then to find your note for a specific transaction, you have to click through multiple screens to get that information, per transaction! The old app, this information was displayed on 1 screen, for multiple transactions!
The new app is awful. You cannot use EasternBank for multiple people. If you originally log on with your account info, you cannot use EasternBank to log on into someone else’s account. I used the old app for my personal banking as well as for my mother. I used my fingerprint to log on to both accounts and it worked with no problems. Not so with EasternBank. Also, the tech support was not good. Spoke with four different people who really couldn’t help. The first women was terrible and couldn’t grasp what the issue was. The second woman understood the issue but couldn’t assist and transferred me to a man who, similarly couldn’t help. I then spoke to the last woman who couldn’t offer any assistance. Also, the email notification for password resets were not working properly and ended up locking the accounts. Eastern Bank has failed its customers with this new app and lack of good technical support.

I have not had technical issues but am so disappointed as EasternBank offers fewer features. The old app showed my balance and transactions at a glance. Now there is a substantial delay with posting transactions; and if pending transactions show up at all it’s not until days later. EasternBank is rendered useless if I cant see my balance and transactions in a more timely manner. I’ve been with Eastern Bank for as long as they have existed but with essential resources being eliminated it’s time for me to move my business to a bank that provides the services I rely on.
Eastern took a perfectly excellent app and dumbed it down! This new app is so bad I can’t even believe the developers actually released it! I can’t search for a specific check number any more at least not obviously. Checking account view doesn’t even show the individual check number listed unless you tap in. Had one transaction that was a co-pay for medical appointment categorized as a clothing purchase; no way to correct that. Can no longer add a note to a check transaction. So many things wrong so little space/time to list. Back to the drawing board people. In the meantime bring back EasternBank you retired!
I am unable to use the new app on my iPhone and iPad - currently working with bank reps to straighten out this glitch. The ‘new’ Eastern Bank app I was told to download has a light blue background with white E. I received an email from the bank today and the graphic that appears next to the bank’s logo has a white background with dark blue E. Which logo is correct? With all the cyber crimes happening these days I’d like to think I can trust my bank to provide me with accurate information. I am considering changing banks due to poor quality of service to solve this issue.
Terrible execution! Who is in charge of this project? Clearly not very competent whoever developed this and was in charge of project management. Did you ever do an ORT before the release? Then you should have noticed the many things that do not work. For example, internal transfers don’t work since only one of several accounts show up. And yes, all accounts in the setting are checked to be displayed. You broke an app that worked and replaced it with a broken one! What’s the point?
You can’t always see if some thing is a check on EasternBank and you can no longer see what the check number is at all! Was much better before. please go back to representing transactions the way they used to be represented. You are making banking extremely difficult now. Thank you

Also, now transactions are grouped by date, rather than each transaction saying what the date is. This makes it difficult to see what date something is and you have to scroll back up. Very frustrating
I was forced to update EasternBank on my iPad. After downloading it and entering my credentials to log in, I ended up deleting EasternBank and logging in to the website via my laptop to change my credentials. The interface on a tablet looks like a scammy third world app, with a rectangle about 1/3 of the screen size centered in the middle, and almost none of the previous functionality.
Although I am not a developer, I do manage a team of developers and I am curious how this version could have made it through QA for the wider population? Maybe a test group to review functionality, but is this really the impression you want to present to new and existing customers?
I hold a personal and business account at this app and the accounts are not linked. I used to be able to log into one or the other easily using the old mobile app by entering log-in info for either account.
The new mobile app saves the account information for one account only, and now I have no way of accessing my business account for mobile banking. My only option, I was told, is to delete and re-install EasternBank each time I want to
Log into a different account. How user-friendly is that? As a business owner who can no longer easily deposit checks remotely using EasternBank without having to delete and reinstall EasternBank if I also used it for personal banking is abysmal and very poor service.
I really hope the developers of EasternBank can fix this issue and make it easier for users to toggle back and forth between personal and business accounts!
The old app worked. I can’t log into the new one because it says my credentials are wrong. They are not. I also can’t log into the old app because it is now outdated. I currently do not have access to view my bank accounts because of this. Do you see why this is an issue eastern bank? Why not just update the old app instead of making a whole new one that nobody likes. Most of the reviews are one star and anyone who gives a higher one is delusional, lucky, or works for the company. I can’t defend you anymore eastern bank.
Eastern bank why would you send an email to say your launching a new app for it not to work. I can’t log into my mobile app because it keeps saying my credentials are wrong which it isn’t. There was nothing wrong with the old app, this is frustrating because now I can’t get into my account or even try to retrieve my credentials. Tried logging in online and I’m having the same problem and all you keep saying is your working on it. Please do better

Why instead of simply updating EasternBank did they create a new one that doesn’t even work? I got a notice by email that I could now use the new app but can’t even login.
The previous app worked perfectly. I will have to jump through a bunch of additional loops to get this one working and do onboarding for it in May when I'll be abroad with limited internet bandwidth.
Eastern, you are a bank. This is a banking app. This not game or social media site for influencers. Your users don't need a fancy UI refresh, they need usability and consistency. You ought to know better than to break user experience just to make your app prettier. Even if the breakage is temporary this whole mess is totally superfluous. Disappointed in y'all.
Who releases a banking app without the ability to utilize two factor authentication.. and at the same time doesn’t allow you a method to turn it off to log in? Now I have zero ability to log in to the old app as I’m being forced to download the new one. As I try to log into the new one I get a message stating my credentials are incorrect. I reset my password and it states “sorry we currently don’t have a method of sending two factor authentication”.
Hire some developers.. it’s not that hard.

Why are you making me download an app where I can't use my login information? If the new app is not ready, why are you bombarding me everywhere with ads to making me download?
Really bad design. I don’t like how dark it is and definitely preferred the old app.
EasternBank does not prompt re-authentication after left idle for any period of time. Switching to another app or closing your phone, the second you or anyone else opens your phone, they will have access to your bank account.
The new app doesn’t work. I can’t login to my old app, neither the new one with my information. Something that should be a seamless transfer. A load of headache,for absolutely ZERO improvement!!
It’s inconvenient that I can not sign out from the Home Screen. I would think that’s a given feature on any mobile app.
ALSO - when transferring between my two accounts I get a notification that the transfer was unsuccessful and to contact the bank, yet the icon is a green check and the transfer did in fact go through. Setting up my Touch ID again seemed unnecessary. I probably spent an extra 5 minutes on EasternBank that I wouldn’t have on the old one.
I’ve used the previous app for years. New app didn’t transfer labels or categories. It applied random labels to people and places I’ve paid for years. (Eg checks to my niece previously labeled “gifts” all got recategorized as “utilities “). I had to go in and manually relabel hundred of transactions. I am now not able to fix categories on App. I have to log in online to label things. It’s far less easy than before. Regular Bill paying is also less straightforward Also why is that looong list of categories not in alphabetical order?!?!
When I downloaded the new app. I followed the directions to get me into the new app. It tells me I am not a customer and to call the bank. I have been a customer for over 20+ years.
While the new app looks new and modern, it’s disappointing that some features were removed. You can longer make accounts favorites so now I have to scroll through my accounts instead of having any favorites right on top for easy access. Also, pending transactions no longer show up in my account transactions making it harder to tell what’s impacting my account balance…I like the ability to monitor activity impacting my account- now I have no idea what’s pending!! Liked the old app better..
The new app seems nice, but for some reason when I switched it cancelled my recurring transfer to my other account. This would’ve be such a big deal if it also didn’t delete the connected account and not allow you to add a connected account! This is a basic feature that was clearly overlooked by QA.
EasternBank is so small on my iPad, the other app would fill the whole page on my iPad but, this one is just a little rectangular that I have a hard time seeing the numbers. Don’t like it at all
First things first: logging in options of Face ID or passcode. While the face idea is great, the 5 digit passcode for a login is a horrible idea. Whomever made that decision should not be in the position to make such decisions. With todays technology it does not take long to guess a 5 digit passcode and hack into the system. At least bring back the password option especially if users are using password managers like 1Password.
Second: when searching for ATM and branches add a feature for the user to filter between branch and ATMs. You can also have a different color marker on the map that distinguishes branch from ATM. Product managers / lead devs take a look at Ally Bank and see how they are doing this.
As I use EasternBank more I’ll come back here and update if I find other issues or have feature suggestions.
I see no benefit to this new version. Perhaps the security features are enhanced, but the user interface is a step back from the previous version. Also, the screen shows up as an iPhone size display in the center of my iPad. The full screen capability should be used. Otherwise, at least it seems to work and I payed some bills.
EasternBank works as it should as a banking app. Please fix Face ID. When I log out I’m obviously looking at my phone. Face ID logs me right back in. There needs to be a few seconds to be able to close EasternBank without having to deal with logging back in then out then in then out etc.
The new app is clean and responsive.
Transaction categories seem to be listed on a random order and can’t be customized. Notes cannot be added until after a transaction clears. EasternBank does not remember categories or notes for transactions that take place on a regular basis.
Loved the icons for the transaction, the new features and capabilities for Debit Card, it looks modern. Everything works as expected.
Great new app to keep up with the times. I followed instructions and didn’t try to use it until it was launched, so I didn’t notice any problems at all. I love the Face ID log in and everything looks clean and simple. Works great!
The new Eastern Bank app has a fresh feel and is very easy to navigate. Very happy with the upgrade Eastern has put forth in this important part of my financial life.

The old app was clunky and hard to navigate, didn’t display information clearly.
This is clean, modern, loads at least 10x faster and is super easy to use and find anything you’re looking for.
Logged into new app today, two factor authentication worked fine. I have access to my accounts as well as my sons, as I did before. Face ID works as before. The UI could use some work as it still doesn’t look modern and I find it hard to read. The old app worked fine and there is no value add in this new one really. I don’t have any issues to report with EasternBank , so everything is still working as before.
I wish all of my banking apps looked/felt like this. You can tell the team spent their time making EasternBank as sleek, user friendly, and, quite frankly, beautiful!
