Please, don’t use an app to diagnose POTS…

It’s great that POTS is getting more awareness. However, POTS is more than an effect of long-Covid. It’s been glamorized since Covid because of the uptick in patients who present with it. Apps like these tend to offer “quick diagnoses and fixes” but in reality, if you do suspect you have POTS, it is better to go to an actual doctor (preferably cardiologist or neurologist) who specializes in autonomic testing. There are several other types of dysautonomia that have similar symptoms and these conditions are managed differently. These are physical tests, you can’t self-diagnose. It’s not a diagnosis you particularly want, either, if that’s not actually the condition you have. POTS patients are continuously gaslit and we have a systemic problem with getting doctors to believe our symptoms. Without the autonomic testing to back up your diagnosis, it will be much, much harder to find the right treatment that works best for you. There are also different subcategories of POTS. Some have low blood pressure, some have high. If you recommend “increase salt” to those with high blood pressure, it’s not safe without regular check-ins with your doctor to monitor your overall health in conjunction with any treatments you’re doing at home. Stay safe 👌🏻

This seems to be trying to be too much

I came EmpiricalHealth after finding it on the POTs subreddit and first experience it is sooo buggy. Downloading brings me right to the payment not onboarding so I had to search for onboarding.

I thought EmpiricalHealth would help me monitor some symptoms and help build an exercise program - but it seems to be peddling talking with one of their doctors and when trying to even build a plan it has so many issues in trying to provide it.

Either way - try and pick a feature or two you want to focus on & make that good. There is a real gap for apps for pots and other chronic illnesses to help build treatment plans when you don’t have access to doctors of PTs.

Just use the Health app

Doesn’t really provide any additional information from the Apple Health app. I got suckered into the free trial and forgot to cancel. Now I’ve paid for an app that repackages information Apple already presents in a very consumable way. Additionally, some of the information presented is just wrong - I.e. presenting a low resting heart rate as something you should be concerned about when they have the data to see that your active and the low heart rate is a result of your fitness. Don’t make my mistake…

No show

Would be helpful if they kept their appointments instead of canceling or ignoring them.

Too laggy to be usable

The data available looks great and is well presented. However, it’s impossible to scroll in the View Recent Workouts page. 2 workouts get loaded and the page ends up freezing when you try to scroll back to older workouts or even scroll to the 2nd page on a workout. Not sure if it’s just EmpiricalHealth or iOS 18 because there are scrolling issues all over iOS 18. Definitely not paying for a non functional app but I do like the UI and would consider it if EmpiricalHealth performed as expected. I’ve actually played around with d with EmpiricalHealth a little more and it is just too laggy and unresponsive to use across the board. Once again, data looks amazing but app responsiveness is extremely poor. Also,
It’s a battery hog. I deleted EmpiricalHealth .

Incomplete exercise data

I was looking forward to a tailored plan. However, it only utilizes apple official workouts and not my exercise minutes which are part of the apple watch health metrics.

seems helpful

so far, i love EmpiricalHealth ! although i wish there was a symptom tracker within it, it has been great for managing just my dysautonomia! only issue is when loggin medical conditions i have, 2 of mine were not listed :(

but im excited to keep using!

Peace of mind

I like that EmpiricalHealth not only organizes my Apple Watch data, it also lets me talk with a real doctor if anything is off. That gives me peace of mind!

Extremely useful

Easily readable analysis of my current health condition

Features

Empirical works with all Apple Watch / iwatch health sensors: heart rate monitor (pulse), ECG (electro cardiogram), HRV, blood oxygen saturation, activity, deep sleep, REM sleep, sleep stages, afib history, vo2max (cardio fitness), heart rate recovery (cardio recovery), temperature, depression and anxiety risk, sleep apnea breathing disturbances, and more.

Metrics summarizes 26 biomarkers into one health score, including resting heart rate, heart rate recovery, ECGs (electro cardiograms), irregular rhythm notifications, heart attack risk (based on the American College of Cardiology's heart attack risk calculator), sleep duration, sleep onset, deep sleep, REM sleep, sleep apnea risk, breathing disturbances, oxygen saturation (SpO2), respiratory rate, and VO2 Max (cardio fitness), HRV, temperature, depression, and anxiety.

We summarize all Apple Watch vitals--the heart rate monitor, sleep, VO2 max (cardio fitness), ECGs (electro cardiogram), mental health, HRV, oxygen--and more into a comprehensive health report.

We're compatible with Apple Watch, Apple Watch SE, and Apple Watch Ultra, and can also import and analyze data from third party sleep, health, and fitness apps such as Autosleep, Athlytic, Bright, Cardiogram (HeartIQ), SleepWatch, Tachymon, Welltory, Sleep++, Visible, and other heart rate & HRV monitors.

Monitor your heart rate (pulse), sleep stages, workouts, and journal your symptoms.
