Toxic Terminology: How This App’s Language Undermines Its Purpose

The first thing I did was listen to the initial podcast, and immediately, I noticed a strong emphasis on the concepts of “strong” versus “weak” mindsets. Many men have grown up being conditioned to view certain feelings or behaviors as weak, often being told that only “strong” individuals avoid them. This kind of terminology is not only toxic but also deeply triggering.

As a result, I couldn’t even move on to the next task, which involved writing non-judgmentally. The irony wasn’t lost on me—the prompt itself was judgmental, focusing on the idea of “breeding a strong mindset.”

If someone is using Mental, it’s likely because they already feel vulnerable or unsure, which you might label as having a “weak mindset.” This approach comes across as subtly shaming, and that’s why I decided to delete Mental . I sincerely hope you reconsider your wording, as this kind of language can do more harm than good. While some people might be comfortable with these labels, it’s incredibly irresponsible to frame this app and emotional struggles in such a binary way.

Whole lotta meh

What does 60 dollars get you? Not a lot. Little daily forced relevance snippets. I like the concept, so signed up for a trial. Found little use for it after one day. It has a coaching process for cold exposure. But I already do cold exposure. Also, it’s basically a stopwatch. The ai is kinda neat. Which you can do without Mental . I don’t see the point. Customer service is non-existent. Can’t get a refund for going five minutes over the trial period. But it seems like this is the whole business model.

Update: I wrote to support as the developer response pretended to offer. They told me sorry, nothing can be done. Have a great day. So that response was just lip service. Terrible business from front to back.

App didn’t work during free trial

Mental only worked correctly the first day of my free trial. On day 2, the Daily Do didn’t work and the Daily Deuce stopped loading starting on day 3. Now the Digital Discipline lesson won’t load even though it’s been 48 hours since my previous lesson. There is no way I can justify spending $60 for the cold shower protocol alone. That is a neat feature, but I’d honestly rather have a list of the techniques to be used instead of having to wait 30 days to learn them.

Response to developer:
Don’t worry. I deleted Mental and the subscription. I won’t be experiencing any more of these bugs that your app is “free of”.

Women

It’s been a while two minute into Mental , in the beginning they give you a list of about 20 people to choose from who inspire you. They’re all men. I’m sure this is going to be awesome at improving my self esteem and feelings of pointlessness in a female role. Awesome. Not one? Couldn’t think of of one. Like, if there was one I wouldn’t even bother commenting, I’m used to that ratio but Jesus eff. Make something up, Mary Curie if you’re feeling lazy for a history reference. Esther Perel is a modern genius on relationships. Since that’s also a point of focus on Mental . She even has podcasts so the podcast bros don’t hurt themselves trying to read. The lack of care given to even ad one just feels disrespectful.

Have not used to app fully but..

I’ll give Mental 5 stars for now but haven’t tried fully yet . I do have an initial reason that could potentially make Mental seem untrustworthy from now on. There’s a question as I was setting up profile that asked me if I wanted to live a long healthy life like Chris Hemsworth in limitless ..!? The lead on this movie was Bradley cooper and it is not really a story of him living a long healthy life . This error is minor but there’s the problem .quick google search could have fixed this but there was none I suppose . How much more are the developers of Mental guessing on assuming ….I’ll go back and move on with trying further. Hopefully it recoups my trust that this is a well thought out app and their method gets results effectively.
Update : $59 , I don’t even want to try out the free trial , I’m sure I can get whatever you’re offering here for free or much less in many classes, platforms ,apps , you name it , I’ll take cold showers from now on and call it a day . Thanks .

Amazing team of people

I was scrolling on tiktok after the passing of a very close relative and was uplifted by one of their posts. Without even knowing an app existed, and without expecting a response, I shot them a message and thanked them for making me smile after such a hard loss. Within an hour or two they responded with a heartfelt personal paragraph, and offered me a free a year on their subscription.
The this app team have been the nicest people I have ever interacted with on the internet, and their positive outlook on life has caused me to view things in a different way. The approach to men’s this app health without traditional therapy is something i’ve looked for as somebody who struggles with it, and this app seems to be the perfect solutions. Without pushing you out of your comfort zone, this app allows you to improve your life and stability of your mind through small details and actions that will make you feel like your old self. It doesn’t take a lot of time, and I look forward to using this app everyday and working towards a more fulfilling and enjoyable life.

Exactly what I needed

I was looking for a this app health app and couldn’t get into any of the mediation apps out there. Downloaded this one after a friend recommended it and was quickly hooked. Exactly what I needed to get motivated.

I’ve read about the benefits of cold showers and tried them before but never stuck with them. With these cold shower protocols I’ve been doing them everyday and actually look forward to them now. Started listening to the daily deuce which are awesome too. Highly recommend to anyone out there looking to work on their this app health or just need a daily boost. Thanks this app.

Mental changed my routine

Before this app, I used to wake up and immediately start scrolling Instagram on my phone. I started listening to the daily audios instead and they gave me just enough motivation to get out of bed and start my day early. I’ve been doing the cold shower protocol for a couple of weeks and it genuinely changes the way you feel in the morning. One good decision keeps leading to another, and I’m starting to feel a lot better.

My only review

I never write reviews but Mental has compelled me to do so. I am blown away! It’s made me a better man in the couple of weeks I’ve been using it. It’s replaced the podcast I listen to in the car. The journaling I haven’t been consistently doing. Motivates me to work out and reflect on things I would have never thought of. The AI is second to none. Seriously, download Mental , it’s worth every penny. I have zero incentive to write this other than I hope it helps someone else like it has already helped me.

Wow; what a great app for anxiety or stress!

I don’t usually go out of my way to write App Store review but Mental is so great. When I start getting anxiety or a panic attack coming on I’ll ask one of the AI coaches and they give such good advice better than my own therapist which trips me out sometimes sometimes how they are so accurate! I love that you can get advice from different types of coaches that you look up to like Andrew Huberman or Bruce Lee and they don’t have their own teaching style - the fact that Mental is free is such a gem and I hope it does really well.

Mental App is 10/11

I Appreciate the person that founded this because it has helped me and as I’m writing this review I came across the one that says “Go for it” I’m grateful to hearing that message because I’ve been stuck in a part of my life and the motivation , inspiration and drive it gave me inspired me to just go for it and keep hearing the message over & over to drill it in my head. The last thing that hit me hard is in the end to not allow where I say to my self “I Wish I would’ve done it” it hit me with regret so with that being said Ima Goooo for it and accomplish all that I want to my build my life around with.

Cold Showers and Taking Action

I’ve used a number of meditation and self-reflection apps, but this app had a few extra features that really set it apart. The cold shower protocols have been a fun challenge with real benefits. The first time I caught myself using tactical breathing in a real life situation after training with it in the shower, I was hooked. This works. The daily douse is another awesome touch. I’ve used Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on the past, the daily do’s is a great application of taking something you want to change and making measurable steps to getting it done. Great app. Would highly recommend.

This app is worth every penny

I’ve seen people knock Mental, saying “$70 a year, for cold showers!?! Psssh, what a scam!”

From someone who was an early adopter who let their subscription lapse and came back, I can tell you that it’s so much more than that. They really care about the quality of Mental and the community. Yeah, Mental started out as cold showers and the daily deuce, but they’ve added the push-up challenge and, perhaps the best feature of all, AI therapists. I am honestly blown away by how good these AI therapy is. I see a real therapist, who is quite good, but there’s something about having a therapist in your pocket who can quickly help you see the root of your problem and help you see the solutions. That, alone, is worth the cost of Mental .

This is an app built by guys, for guys. They get you and they get your struggles and they built an amazing tool to help you better yourself and get through all of the tough times in life. Bravo, sirs. Bravo.

Most productive app I’ve downloaded by far!

I just wanted to put in here that I love Mental ! I feel it’s one of my more productive apps I have ever used and it impacts my daily life for sure. I never thought of myself as someone who would do like full blown therapy or anything, but the chill pill is like that perfect step down to give tools to navigate through things that can be aggravating through the day. One thing I would like is if I could plug cold showers in that I do without following along, some days I apply the same exercises for a few days and I don’t necessarily need a loud motivational video going while I shower at the gym haha.

It’s great!!

So I have only been using Mental for a bit but it’s basically like therapy on demand. If I’m going through something I can pop on and immediately get feed back and talk about what’s going on while it’s going on!

Normally you’d have to wait till your next session and that could be 2 weeks and then you may not feel the same way.

I also struggled to find a therapist for years that would both take my insurance and also take on new clients, and sometime they wouldn’t even call me back. It was beyond frustrating especially knowing that I had some issues I wanted to work on. It was amazing that in 2024 when we know how important this app health is I couldn’t find a therapist! So when this came along I was pumped!

So far so good and I would recommend to others.

I will also say that maybe having a monthly in person therapy session could still be helpful (which I do have, it’s every 2 weeks I finally found one) but I think this is a fantastic addition to my therapy and this app health journey

This App Should Be All-Time #1 On The App Store!!

My title says it all. Just get it, use it daily and watch yourself grow, heal, learn, become more disciplined, focused and HAPPY. The cold shower protocol is what got my attention, and I’m now on day 120. I’ve never felt better, physically and mentally. Mental is truly a game changer (and a life-saver), and it’s made with a lot of love. The Daily Deuces are fantastic little 2-3min talks, offering wisdom and insight on various topics, as well as a new tool you can incorporate into your life. They’re hilarious and heartfelt all at once, it’s truly remarkable and extremely valuable. Getting this app is one of THE best decisions I’ve ever made. Period. Thank you to Jason and everyone involved. 10/10.

Life changing app all men need.

Downloaded Mental randomly after deleting social media. I was in a big slump, i didn’t like the person i was becoming, just scrolling myself to death on mindless apps that offered nothing but laziness. I could feel myself getting worse.

So i needed to replace these terrible apps and i downloaded this app and was immediately hooked from the very first daily deuce. It offers so much stuff that all men need in their life. I still have a streak going and can’t get over how this has springboard me into a much more positive life.

This review sounds hokey but it’s all 100% true, if you’re a man looking to better yourself and don’t know where to start, start HERE. I promise you won’t regret it.

Give it a minute

I downloaded Mental some time ago. The voice of the "Ducer" drove me a little crazy right off the bat. I put Mental down for a while, but then I recently decided to come back to listening and participating in the writing practices. Now I find that the "Daily Duce", as they call it, is a welcome part of my morning routine. The subject matter is relevant and inspiring. The competitive part of me likes that Mental has a section that allows you to see how you are doing in relation to other guys using Mental .
So in summary... it took me a minute to have full "buy-in", but I'm in it now and am truly benefiting from the daily motivational insights and the writing prompts. In my professional opinion (I'm a therapist) this is a great way to start the day.
Thanks this app!

Best App purchase of my life

Everything about Mental. The purpose, the methods, the support team, the engineers, the discord group, Jason, and Master Chief Drum - are extraordinary. In the day and age where apps are a dime a dozen, all promising — Mental delivers. It delivers real tangible, measureable transformation in mind and body. There’s no gimmicks or clever taglines or language, like in “other” men’s improvement apps. Mental is simple, accessible, relateable and delivers what it promises. What’s it worth to truly transform your life? Your mindset? What’s it worth to level up in every way from your ability to handle stress to your ability to laugh and make light of issues all men may face? Mental as investment that will payoff for you within the free trial period— which will leave you wanting more. You won’t regret it.

Almost perfect

The training, process, and daily Duce are all wonderful, I recommend Mental to everyone. My only complaint is that once you’re on level 3 it’s just dead air and you can’t have anything going in the background. I’m at 21min a week cold and a min of 14min a week waiting to turn to cold thats currently 35min a week. That’s ~30 hours a year I could be listening to a book or affirmations.
