Inaccurate yardages

2022-05-22

This was my favorite app. It’s easy to use and all the extra features are great. However, all of a sudden the gps is off by 15-20 yards. I played Torrey Pines North yesterday and gps was off. Some were long and some were short. I switched to Hole 19 and that was perfectly accurate. I really want to continue to use GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder and asked several times for the problem to be fixed, but their tech support Sara told me that they tried everything and 15-20 yards is within their margin of error. I paid full price for GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder and I’m sad that I can’t use anymore. But when the distance is more than 1 club length off, I can’t trust it, therefore becomes useless even with all the features.

On a side note, I upgraded my iPhone just to see if that would fix the problem. It was an excuse to upgrade my phone but the problem was not my phone.

Apple Watch app experience is poor

2022-06-23

Ever since the latest updates that enabled GPS on the Apple Watch...experience using the Apple Watch has declined. Especially if you keep your phone on you to keep score....the connection between the watch and phone is non-existent...and yardages are never consistent between the two. With the latest update and turning off “watch GPS always ON”. Its even WORSE. You are forced to turn that feature on and eat the battery life on the watch...just to get updated yardages. This SHOULDN’T be if you keep your phone on you the WHOLE time and use the gps on the phone and not the watch.

Update after contacting support team:

still no resolution, I was asked to make sure my Bluetooth was turned on my phone. I mean come on...if I’m starting my round on the phone and the watch is seeing that round started...it’s obviously connected to my phone!! At this point I doubt I’m paying the extra charges for pro features.

Description wrong

I am being told by support auto advance for GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder only works with Apple Watch. Yet, occasionally, it does work on the course. If I knew it wouldn’t work consistently, I never would have purchased. None of their literature states you need an Apple Watch for auto advance. Now, Kaitlin, from their customer support, doesn’t think I need an Apple Watch for it to work. How can the same person not even know what needs to be done and is just throwing out guesses.

Support, I have been in contact with your horrible support and all they could offer was free videos, which a neither want nor need. When I asked for a refund, I was told I needed to contact Apple, while Apple tells me I have to contact the developer. You lie about what GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder does and then refuse to refund money when it gets called out.

The latest from support is that I don’t need an Apple Watch and it should work on all devices, and I should be happy it works some of the time. Would Golfshot be happy if I paid them just part of their fee?

Good afternoon,

I downloaded your app several weeks ago to use while playing golf. I had pre loaded all information regarding my bag, shot distances, etc. and was excited to use your product during my next round. Unfortunately when I arrived to play, your app all but stopped working. I had no functionality on the course. I could not use the dynamic map, I couldn’t advance holes, and I couldn’t even track my score. Everything was either buffering/loading up until your pro membership screen when it told me to my surprise that I had purchased your premium service. This did not help matters and I was still unable to use GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder . I was able to download 18Birdies on the second tee box and able to use their FREE service for the rest of the round. I am willing to give your app another go, however, I need to be refunded for the premium service that was neither wanted nor provided.

Not what I hoped

2022-09-26

I have an iPhone X and an Apple Watch 3 series and decided to give GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder a try on a 5-day golf trip. Downloading the courses and navigating GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder on the phone were okay but there were some usability issues I found very frustrating. First, starting a round is easy enough but figuring out how to end a round (if you intended to just look at the hole fly-overs, or decided to score manually) is a challenge. The “end round” feature is buried in the menu and without finding it, there’s no alternative to load a new course. After setting up my clubs and distances, I found the overall suggestions from GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder on the phone to be decent and the GPS to be within a yard of other hand held GPS that were present on the courses I was playing. The major issue was the lag on the watch and the fact that even though the round was being played with my phone in pocket, the watch rarely ever could keep and glancing at my wrist yielded either the yardage from the tee (start) or dashes. Very often the applet on the watch would t even come up and I would need to hunt for it. I wanted this to be easier and more intuitive and was considering the $29 if the response on the watch was decent but it just wasn’t

Great app but one major limitation

2022-10-27

GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder (free version) is great. I started using this a few years back and has evolved since. It pretty much has everything you’d want in a free golf scorecard + gps app. It records various stats, gps to the hole, easy to use user interface, etc. However, I find myself using another app (like 18birdies) because of one missing feature...being able to get distances to anywhere on the map. In other free golf apps, you can select any place on the golf course and get distances to it. I understand it is a part of the paid version but not the free version. I feel like it should be since almost all the other apps have this feature. It just stinks that all the history I have on GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder is wasted since I’m now using another app. Oh well.

Long Time User...

2022-11-28

For the most part GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder is fine. I’ve trained myself to “calibrate” the GPS with my laser by going to the 150 marker and noting what Golfshot reads to the middle of the green then going to the middle of the green and use the laser to shoot the 150 marker. From there I mentally adjust what shows in Golfshot, typically +/- 2-7 yards. This is helpful for blind shots.

Score keeping for the groups is average. The interface to keep score could be enhanced with less screen changes for each golfer’s score. Defaulting to Par would also reduce taps. A handy addition. would be using GHIN to update all golfer’s CH and then a choice of playing off of the low CH. More games would be nice (Skins?). Extra credit to allow different groups to keep and share scores in real time.

The ability to download past scores would be welcomed and mentioned for years. The stats are fine but tedious to review in GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder or site.

On a final note, the reviews are ripe with questions to common situations and “complaints”. Instead of the generic “contact support” response, why not answer the questions in the response so others can learn from it. At the very least cut and paste from the FAQ.

Faulty Algorithm in Auto Shot Tracking

2022-12-29

UPDATE - Reply to the developer’s response: Turn off the “Auto Advance” feature is not the right solution. Please confirm that you will forward my suggestion on the correct programming algorithm to your development team. It’s a simple programming change, and it will fix the bug once and for all….. I recently paid for Golfshot Pro due to its new auto shot tracking capability. I played about 9 rounds so far using auto shot tracking. It worked generally fine with random missed shots. However, GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder has an algorithm deficiency that should be corrected, as detailed below: In a situation that after I took a tee shot and Golfshot detected the shot and started tracking… if, on my way to the green, I go near or pass by a tee box area of another hole, Golfshot would abandon the ongoing shot tracking, and reset my play to the hole I was only passing by. Even when I manually reset GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder to continue playing the hole I was still working on, the tracked shots and distance data are lost and unrecoverable! The correct algorithm should be: The incomplete tracking data should have been retained in the buffer, instead of being thrashed immediately, in a situation that the player was merely passing by another hole’s tee box. Golfshot should resume tracking the last shot as soon as it detected that the player was still working towards the unfinished green.

Nice features, but a HUGE battery drain

2023-01-30

There’s a nice track shot feature to allow GPS tracking of distance and accuracy for each club. You’re able to see the stats for each club which is nice. However, it’s a pain to enter in the club info at the ball. It would make more sense to enter that info as soon as the button track is hit, prior to going to the ball. I’m already thinking ahead of the next shot by the time I’m at the ball.

There’s also a “fitness” tracking feature which is nice. However, having the GPS on all the time drains my battery extremely fast. I can’t make it through an entire 18 holes with GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder on. For the developers, perhaps GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder can have GPS on situationally, ie ONLY to locate nearby facilities and when the you select “at ball” in the track feature.

Great Apple Watch features but scorecard needs work

2023-03-03

I love GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder and use the premium for distances to hazards and the flyover when playing new courses. After using many golf gps apps this one won me over with its Apple Watch interface. Over time GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder has learned how far I typically hit my driver and now shows me how far out my shot will likely end up off the t box. My only complaint is the scorecard feature. I really like it for scoring and emailing to myself and playing partners after the round BUT I find I am often missing some scores. If you wait to record scores on your way to or at the next t box (as you should), GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder will sometimes jump ahead and record your score on the wrong hole, or miss some of the scores you thought you had recorded. I would prefer to manually advance GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder to the next hole to prevent that from happening.

Great App, initial shot tracking feedback

2023-04-01

Update: Like most people, I just started using this new feature without reading in detailed documentation first :-). I have now read through it and understand there was some things I wasn’t quite following properly. Will give it another go on a round of golf and report back..

I’ve been using GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder for several years and it’s got many features and it’s a great app. Today I played with the new shot tracking feature and unless I’m doing something incorrectly, it was too cumbersome to use for my liking. More specifically, every time I took a practice swing, and the club touches the ground (which it almost always does), it would register a shot. So I had to keep pressing my Apple Watch face and click cancel shot, in between that shot and my real shot, and after several times it was becoming a distraction to my game so I turned it off. If I’m doing something wrong please let me know, i’d be happy to give it another go and would really like to reap the benefits of this!

Good Working on Being Great

2023-05-03

I Love your App!!! There are many positives. I use your app to view what my next shot from direction and distance should be. There are times when issues arise as to where and how far (carry) should be. I count on my measurements of carry and direction. As long as I know I can access your info quickly and accurately for my next shot I am a Happy player. I believe in Ready Golf and want to ensure timely play. “At times” your App is slow to inaccurate what I can count on for my next shot as I try to calculate what it should be. Between your App and Me getting better at utiIzing your App I’m sure we will concur using the Best Golf Play App ever developed for the Average Golfer.

A must have

2023-06-03

What got me hooked was the price. $40 / year for this, given that represents the cost of a couple rounds IN GOLF BALLS ALONE for many people, is a bargain. That said I would not pay much more than that. But the value is there especially if you own an Apple Watch and not an rangefinder (or in my case you own one but you now realize you didn’t need it because of Golfshot.) I wish it had a family plan. I would like to be able to configure the experience a bit. And I wish it would take a crack at tracking my strokes and putts. But I can’t to without it even as is.

There’s no easy app for The Watch.

2023-07-05

I’ve been using GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder since my iPhone 3G, it’s great. I’ve tried all the others and have come back to golf shot every time. The main reason I love GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder is how easy it is to track your score and stats on the watch. Now that the watch auto tracks shots it’s just a no-brainer to use. One tip, if you use the auto shot tracking of your Apple Watch it’s very important that you score the hole prior before you hit your next tee shot. I’ve found if you don’t do this the auto shot tracking gets a bit confused but it makes sense, scoring the hole most likely resets the tracking to the next tee box.

Free version does everything I need

2023-08-05

Has gps and a good scoring system. you have ability to enter putts, total stokes, sand shots and penalties, as well as club used to tee off and fairway hit/missed (you select the direction it missed). These are all scrollable and it makes selecting easy. Takes a couple seconds and can be done in between holes. It auto calculates if you made the green in regulation (and percentage overall) and the percentage of fairways hit. Each time Yuu play a round, it remembers how you’ve done on that hole before. You can book tee times and do some other things but I mainly use it for rounds.

It is a great app.

2023-09-06

I have been using GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder for a few years now. The more I use it the more I realize what I can do with it. You can track your club distances with the GPS to see what you are averaging on each club. Now if the reception is weak it might interfere but I have not had this problem. It will suggest clubs for the course from you past input. I originally got GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder just to keep my scores. It does that and more. When you load your golfers for a round of golf remember to scroll down to start. Some have complained about this, but due to the reporting process for a handicap it’s necessary. I like GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder .

Very Excellent

2023-10-08

I started back up golfing with a buddy about year ago. I love the scorecard feature as opposed to the paper scoreboards that I would usually just throw away anyway. So far every course I have played has been in GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder and I can track my progress by an easy review of the scorecard. I tried out the AR feature and it was awesome. Sometimes your ball lands in places that make viewing the pin a little difficult, however easy to find through GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder . I don’t have to guesstimate how far away I am because I get the distance through GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder and so far it has worked great with the watch. I also love how it syncs with my daily activity!

Great app, aside from it forgetting scores

2023-11-08

I’ve had the Golfshot app for years and it has easily been my favorite golf GPS app. The flyovers, AR feature, club recommendations, and overall ease of use have always made GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder great. However, one major issue that has been plaguing GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder for a while now is a glitch with the scorecard where it will randomly forget scores that you inputted during your round. I’ve reported this issue multiple times and still no luck and this issue was present over multiple updates as well as multiple versions of iPhones. As a result, I have to use a paper scorecard in addition to GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder because every single round GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder will forget scores inputted on at least a couple holes.

Love the App! But…

2023-12-10

I do love GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder. I use it mostly for the GPS on the Apple Watch. It’s also nice that they still give you some basic stats about your game on the free version.

One suggestion though. Right now your individual statistics are calculated using data from all rounds scored on GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder , meaning your data is an accumulation over many seasons. It may be a tough install, but if there were a way to sort your statistics by season that would be a major update. It’s nice to be able to track your progress, not only by your handicap, but by looking at how your FIR, GIR, putts, etc. change year in and year out.

Great on the iPhone, Apple Watch is almost there

2024-01-10

Can’t say enough good things about GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder on the iPhone. Only way to accurately gauge distance without a range finder. Only thing missing really is elevation. Tracks a lot of stats you would care about. Learned today that you need to have the to subscription to show the maps and distances on the Watch. If your map is white on the Apple Watch, it’s because you need the to subscription. $30 bucks annual is steep, but developers are not free. Apple Watch app does need improvement though. Can’t select specific areas of the map for custom distances. Also, GPS is much slower to update than my Garmin Watch. Definitely something to consider.

Great but needs one or two annoying fixes.

2024-12-16

When score keeping is being completed at the end of the hole GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder often switches to the next hole. Seeing how there is no quick ‘previous’ hole select it is cumbersome to say the least. Auto advance to the next hole is off and yet still goes to the next hole before scoring. If scoring is active the next hole should not advance until the user selects it or maybe have the auto advance be reliable.

Having a quick ‘back’ or ‘previous’ hole quick select would be handy.

Great app missing one feature

2024-12-16

GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder does a lot of things well. I love The ability to track shots and get distances on the Apple Watch with ease. Turning your score into the GHIN website is a great feature. But when I play with my friends we all turn to a free app which allows for communal scoring. We can all enter our scores and they show up on the virtual scorecard for everyone to access. It’s especially great when your group is using two or more tee times. You can see how everyone is doing in real time! Add this feature and it will be a five star app in my opinion.

The Standard Needs Tournament Features

2024-12-16

Since this was my first golf scoring app that I used, I just all other apps from this. They pretty much all do the same but I think GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder still stands out as the best. Only issue I have is when I’m playing in a large group or in tournament play. So many other apps have that scoreboard feature. Would love to see that on the free app version since sometimes you’ll get a random group of guys that will play in a tournament and not buy into the idea of a paid app.

Better than a range finder.

2024-12-16

After going golfing with GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder over a hundred times, comparing it to my friends rangefinders, yardage markers on course and cart gps on the nicer golf carts. This is hands down the best option for someone who doesn’t want to take a mortgage out on a golf accessory. Most range finders start at the price of the Apple Watch and that’s all they do. My Apple Watch does all sorts of things, like tell me I’m fat or that I breathe too shallow. So that’s nice. And you can upgrade GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder to do something else but I didn’t, because I just use it as a range finder, and that parts free. So have fun and play well.

Best Golf App

2024-12-16

I am about a 10 handicap golfer. I never leave home without GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder. I find the distances to be within 1 yard or 2 from my $400 handheld scope. I love the caddie feature, I have all clubs saved in here and know exactly which club to play based off of distances and then I can decide based off of weather and course condition which club to use. GolfshotGolfGPSRangeFinder has definitely helped me to lower my handicap from an 18 down to a 10 and continuing to get lower. Great overall app I recommend to all my friends.
