The app took a giant step backwards. The focus is now “online content,” and the magazine itself it buried on the last tab with no way to navigate through its table of contents — the only option now is an awkward scroll through every page. Worse, there is no way to save where you left off in an article, even if you just leave the app for a minute. Without the ability to get cozy with deep reads of the magazine, the app is just basically a website of tabs and links, but less elegantly usable than an actual website.

A few years ago you updated the magazine interface from what was basically pdfs of each page to a very usable interface. Articles again scrolled and the text was such that they could be easily read. You are back to what is basically a pdf of text so small it is unreadable. Requires you to expand portions of the page and then watch it float around while you try to read it. What happened???

I got a Rolling Stone subscription to read older articles. I got the app to avoid some of the janky issues with the website. But there’s no easy way to find older articles with this app. It’s fine if you want to read the current content or you enjoy browsing year by year, but terrible for accessing some of the best historical music journalism of the last 60 years.
