Good for those that don’t know anything about European art

I love the idea of the app and the presentation / visualization of the artworks however there are a few key problems - None of the art presented is from outside the western canon. This probably represents the app creators personal taste but to call an app “DailyArt” and then restrict to only western art is a bit misleading. I got the app to learn about different art traditions from India, China, Japan, the Middle East, Vietnam, etc. Instead we get repeated tired old Van Goghs which are already super famous, I already know a lot about and we can go see anyway. - I hate the pop up asking for the paid subscription when you try to dismiss an ad and how intrusive it is. I find the art surfaced decent but a little banal and I’m not learning anything new and thus am not willing to pay for a service that doesn’t seem useful to me as of now. It would be good if the giant “X” to dismiss an ad actually did what it was meant to. - There are some technical issues with latency and load times which the app developers should look into it. Would recommend caching the image on local at time of app open so that clicking on the image does not require the app to reload and introduce a wait time.

Love the idea, hate the lack of diversity

First of all I want to say that I love the idea behind this app. Getting to learn about a different art piece each day is such a joy, and this app does a great job of delivering that experience. But I’m sad to say that there is almost a complete disregard for works outside of the western canon. This month there was only ONE non western work, unless you count that painting Van Gogh copied from a Japanese woodcut (eyeroll). This app has the great potential to be showcasing a rich variety of cultures and societies to a wide reaching modern audience, but alas, ignorance prevails. A similar problem lies in the daily descriptions, which are usually informative and straightforward, but sometimes offer pointless commentary. Are we really calling a painting of a woman’s bare chest ‘disturbing?’ I’ll continue using this app because I love learning about a different artwork everyday, but please please please add works from other cultures. This is already a huge problem in the art history world, and this app is just contributing to it!

Great app! Could use more diversity!

The app is great! You get a short readable blurb every day to learn about art pieces. They also provide “extra-curricular” readings at the end of every day’s blurb if you want more information and art for the day! In addition, there are information on art movements and artist biography. However, as some have pointed out, there lacks diversity. Most of the art is Eurocentric with occasional scatterings of Japanese artwork. Very rarely do we get anything outside of that. The information and descriptions for non-European art is usually shorter too. It might be because staff have studied mostly European art and I’m very glad that the creator had the passion to make this app in the first place to share art with everyone. But, there is so much cool and interesting art from other parts of the world that rarely ever get spotlight in art mentionings (outside of this app). It’s just so much untapped potential I would love to see Daily Art tap into more! I do appreciate that they are offering more language options though!
