Very useful

I am using it to help my little girl Melody learn Weiqi. She is now 7 years old, and she enjoys playing it.

Poor English and bad UI

The English translation is pretty bad.
The user interface could use a lot of work. Overall it feels pretty clunky. Probably needs time to fix the bugs and clean up the interactions.

Better than paid app!

This is a very good app for Go. Beginner-friendly

Liking it...

Good puzzles. Would be helpful to have captions no n English so I know the goal of the individual puzzle. And explanations of why these specific moves are used.

Well laid out, very beautiful graphics.

Great

I've played GO on and off in my life and own my own board and books but would still consider myself a beginner. This is a great app to flex your GO problem knowledge or just to kill a little time instead of playing mindless tap games. 4 stars just because it could be better translated and could explain the more complicated problems to help players incorporate the understanding of them to a real game. ^^5 stars if updated. All in all great though.

Translations please

I'm a totally new beginner at Go. While I can handle having to guess a few times in order to find the right sequence of moves (though explanations of wrong moves would be nice), the one thing that really frustrates me are the explanations of what to do for each problem (the one above the board). It's in Chinese! In the settings menu I clearly marked English, but apparently the settings only apply to the settings menu and the class titles. Please fix this so English speakers can understand what to do without running the instructions through a translator.

Needs translation!!!

It's almost the best app out there, but GoGame needs serious translation before its worth purchasing. Also, the problems need explanation. I can figure out what moves to make eventually, but it doesn't offer why they are right and many potential moves simply aren't allowed. It is probably awesome if I could read Japanese, but it is sorely lacking in its English. I hope it gets better, as I really do like GoGame

Terrible English

I am trying to learn how to play Go. GoGame seems to have potential as a good app for beginners. However, the english needs to be vastly more improved before GoGame can be considered a good tutorial app. It is difficult, almost impossible to understand why certain moves are allowed, while other moves are not. I am still in search of an app with a good Go tutorial. GoGame was a decent attempt. Thank you for trying. I am willing to try GoGame again after the english improves, otherwise I can not understand anything in GoGame .

Great for beginners (like me), but lacking some basic features.

There are no variations or explanations. The problems are all life and death, but I wish you could isolate a theme (cutting, Atari, capturing race, seki). They are also split into Classes, but you will find one-move kills between 5-move crosscuts.

They also need to fix all the spelling and grammar errors. This format leads me to prefer a paperback version and a real board.

Great tutorial

This is the best Go tutorial, easier than trying to have someone teach you.
Now if you can just memorize all the moves, you're set.
This quiz shows the best Go moves in different situations.
The correct moves or combination of moves will render white with no moves to save his pieces.
Learning these moves can be the difference between a game that lasts one evening and one that lasts years.

Nice collection

I like the problems so far, and it lets you go down certain wrong paths far enough to see the error of your ways. The only minor shortcoming is in having no branched correct solutions so often one of two equally correct finishing moves is marked incorrect. Sometimes more incorrect branches might help a beginner, as well.

5 Stars with feature request

Cannot listen to music or podcasts with this game running - even with all sound turned off in the settings!

^^^ Update ^^^

This is fun! But sometimes the not-shown subsequent moves are not obvious to me. Can that be added as animation after the puzzle is solved?

Very puzzling, trippy music.

Many of these problems require a long period of thought _after_ 'winning' to understand the forces at play.

The music seems silly but when your brain starts to isolate itself in the problem it gets weird and fun.

Could fix the mechanics

The problems are excellent but the mechanics of using GoGame are clumsy. When moving on the the next level you either have to quit and restart or evaluate GoGame or make wild guesses as to might work to get you back to the start of level choices.

Almost perfect, needs translations

Was looking for a good teaching app for Go and found this gem. Really happy about the simple exercises, and how you can start learning from situations right away. It is difficult to know what to do without an English translation though.

Excellent for me

From my standpoint, this is an excellent program. Life and Death, if you think about it, is the heart of go. You study this entire program, religiously, and I think that is perhaps one of the finest way to get not only stronger but a finer appreciation and understanding of the game.

By

great

not that much freedom to pick where ever you want to place your stone, so out of like 15 possible places to play, GoGame only allows you to go in one to three choices on the first turn. At least do a better job of proving certain moves wrong...

Novice

I have never played go before. I am learning the life an death problems without a full understanding of how the game is played. As you might expect it leads to some frustration. Still GoGame seems to work as intended and quite well.

As a novice I would appreciate better translations and a little more hand holding.

Excellent collection of go problems

As an AGA 3D I'm able to find plenty of problems that are reasonable from extremely easy to extremely hard. The English translations are so-so but usable.

A decent set of problems.

Do not be put off by the atrocious English translation in GoGame's description. GO is a very old Oriental game that involves achieving dominance ofl areas of the board by placing one stone time. It has a lovely Zen like nature and is easy to learn and difficult to master. You can acquire a rudimentary knowledge of playing GO quite easily and quickly from any number of sites on the Internet. That knowledge is all you need to enjoy GoGame. It provides a large number of problems of increasing difficulty addressing what is called "life and death" that is the basic fundamental of the game. The interface is attractive and 7000 problems for free is certainly a bargain.
