Helpful Resource, Responsive App Developers

I obviously knew the basics about menstruation, ovulation, and the like before I downloaded Kindara, but I didn’t realize how much I didn’t know! I am engaged and getting married in May, so I really wanted to get a better understanding of how I could best prevent pregnancy naturally and develop my habits before my fiancé and I go in to this blindly. this app offers organized and concise articles on just about everything I needed for a usable introduction to FAM. When I don’t remember what my BBT shift is telling me or what all the acronyms even mean, I can find out in their articles (and even click on the acronyms to see what they stand for). Though my fiancé doesn’t read the articles himself, I’m sure they are concise yet detailed enough for men to understand, too. [At least I can explain the information to him myself, so that’s better than it was before! Lol.]

I did have some suggestions that I sent to the developers through Kindara ’s “request a feature” option. Lauren responded almost immediately and was so enthusiastic about my suggestions. Even if they don’t necessarily implement all of my ideas, I’ll still be happy to support Kindara because it’s already great like it is, and their staff is so amazing!

Love Kindara!

So I just recently got done reading the book “Taking charge or your fertility” and decided that I would start tracking. I have never been on birth control in my life and I’m 28 years old. My friends always ask me how I do it and I just say its not that hard to be extra careful. I never wanted birth control for the fact that it has so may side effects and chemicals in it. I don’t want that in my body. Anyways so after reading the book I stumbled upon this app it was the first app that showed up on Kindara store. So I figured I’d give it a try. I was using “Clue” and “Eve” before. There both great apps the only downside is they were never accurate for me. I have very irregular periods and they always seemed to just “guess” wrong. But now I want to take control and actually see whats going on and I love this app’s charts there easy to read. I also recently bought the Wink it should arrive in about 2 days and I have never been so excited about a thermometer before. For whatever reason I am. I have been using this app for about a month now and absolutely love it. Its super simple and easy yet very appealing and pretty looking and it has great features that work for all types or womens situations. I just love it. Thanks this app!

About Premium

I love this app. Kindara is beautiful and functional. I'm TTA and was recently diagnosed with PCOS. I love that Kindara helps me keep track of my fertility AND helps me journal/ use toggle data that is also relevant to tracking with PCOS. Regarding the new premium subscription-- not thrilled. An on-going subscription verses a one time fee doesn't make sense for all the people who use Kindara to AVOID pregnancy and it kinda feels like a slight. I'm part of a community that is full of TTA people who will no longer be using this app (and are SERIOUSLY sad about it) because paying for an app,on subscription, that will be used endlessly and continually for a TTA person doesn't make financial sense where as someone trying to conceive finds they can pay for it for however long and then stop. See the problem? No other app comes close to this app in look or function (for TTA, CFH, or TTC) and no other app is as best suited for LEARNING how to use FAM (i.e. You place your own CL or mark your own peak verses an app doing it for you or trying to "predict" which isn't accurate). The new premium options are great, but weren't really necessary with unlimited custom data options. In fact, it might be a hindrance because some people feel the vaginal sensation options don't make sense. There was nothing wrong with the look before or the toggle data option. Overall, the 'upgraded' options are definitely not worth $4.99/mo.

So far, not bad

Well, I’m supposed to be on Cycle Day 9, but this app, for whatever reason, has decided that I’ve started a new cycle. There doesn’t seem to be a way for me to correct that, and I’m pretty disappointed. I’ve only been using Kindara for about a week, but I thought Kindara seemed promising at first. The look takes some getting used to, what with the little spotting bubbles floating all over, and the temperature dot dipping all over the place, but I think the overall layout is good and I was looking forward to using it. However, finding out some of the content is only for paying members is a bit of a bummer; this latest snafu with starting a new cycle randomly pretty much killed this app for me.

Edited Dec 8: Ok, so it looks like the starting a new cycle thing was a glitch that affected a lot of users. After this app fixed it, I received an email and figured eh, why not give them a second shot. I redownloaded and have been comparing Kindara with two competing products. So far, I’d say this app is a strong forerunner. I like the way the chart is laid out, and how simple it is to add my information. My one remaining aggravation is that it seems vaginal sensation is only available to premium members, and that seems like an odd thing to have to pay for to me. (Wow, that’s a sentence I never expected to construct....)

Great app for natural family planning!!

I've been using the this app app for years and love it! I also purchased a Wink from the kickstarter and it's been a wonderful addition to my natural cycle charting routine... it makes it easy to test temperature first thing in the morning when you're groggy. It's clear they put a lot of thought and effort into it! The winkie face in the morning is sweet and the device itself is sleek and sophisticated.

I never have used pharmaceutical birth control... and when we were ready to get pregnant with our son, I consulted Kindara for when I was ovulating... literally 2.5 weeks later I was looking at a positive pregnancy test!

Now that we've decided to wait for more babies, Kindara has been an invaluable tool for helping me map out my cycle. When I told the doctor my form of birth control is the ovulation method, he jokingly said it was a good way to get pregnant... but here we are going 5+ years strong! I credit that in large part to the this app app helping me to keep everything together and know my body better.

As a Registered Nurse, I recommend Kindara to friends and family as a much safer (and equally effective) method of birth control and family planning.

Thanks this app for all that you've done to make a fantastic app that has helped me personally to have better understanding of my fertility and for our family to be able to plan ahead. No form of pregnancy control or planning is perfect, but this app comes pretty close! 😉

Would NOT USE if I didn’t have Wink

Kindara needs SERIOUS HELP. You cannot change previously set settings due to the apps inability to unglitch itself to make the change. Started off by wanting to edit the personal extra settings I had on the chart such as adding a dot on “prenatals” if I had taken them that day etc,- which it wouldn’t let me do so I had to completely delete each entry and readd it all in. Then when it came to updating my “temperature reminder” alarm, which to this day after a week of messing with it, STILL WONT UPDATE from 4:30am to 6am. Finally decided to just turn off that alarm and use the one on my iPhone. Uninstalled Kindara and reinstalled it hoping it would fix the issue..but NOPE! Instead none of my previous data entries synced right and instead show up blank so then I had to go in and re-edit all of my personal settings again. Kindara is a mess. Still waiting to hear back from support. Lastly the Wink rarely syncs with my phone (iPhone 7plus with current update), causing me to have to open the Wink again in the morning, unlock my phone and have Kindara open for 2-5 minutes for it to get it together. Remind you this is a $150 dollar “hi-tech” thermometer. Wound up just shelling out the $50 for Fertility Friend and manually inputting the temperature results in there. Just a massive expensive headache. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Some changes are not so great

Good resource overall.

I understand why they want to monetize certain features and retain them for the paid version. However, it is bothersome for them to show up as a locked item in the data section and chart view. Why not simply remove them from cycles those are not active for and come up with a less obtrusive method for reminding users why they might want to upgrade. Being annoyed and frustrated doesn’t make me want to have more of something.

At some point along the changes the calendar view became visually cluttered and difficult to tell what symbol is what. Also, I cannot scroll beyond a couple of months without problems. So, for instance, if I want to know when it would be 40 weeks out from the beginning of a cycle - this is a fertility tracking app after all - and I try to count weeks as I scroll through, at some point the calendar won’t accurately load the next month and then it will put me well into the future. Bothersome. this app could add a function to the calendar to find 40 weeks out from any given cycle start date. Even better if it would let you see the projected dates of future cycles as well.

Great data input!

We are strictly TTA, from now until menopause. Love the layout & ease of data input. Everything on 1 screen is great, no waiting for something to save before being able to enter something else. The drop shapes for type of CM with 3 levels for the amount of CM—just perfect. I added 3 custom boxes, CBFM peak, high & low in that order, so as they were checked they would show up with L @ the bottom & P higher, so I have a great visual for my clear blue monitor for the Marquette Method of NFP. So glad I found Kindara! It should make TTA much easier to chart & so happy dh can have it on his phone, that is great...he tells me, "our phones went off, it must be time for your self-check" I like that it reminds him so he reminds me to chart & he then checks Kindara so he is more aware of where we are in my cycle & knows when we can be 'together' & now can see when, not to ask, 'how about tonight'-I am no longer the gate-keeper, having to always tell him no during my fertile phase!

New upgrades and premium/good public ruined app

I’ve been using this app for several years and have become especially close to about 5 or so women on the community who also have severe Endometriosis and are trying to conceive. Two of them overcame their infertility and gave birth to their healthy babies this past year, one is halfway along in her IVF pregnancy, and the rest of us have now moved on to IVF in order to have children. I love Wink and ordered one as soon as it was available-it’s incredible and saves a lot of time. I’ve noticed this app hired some new high-level employees last year and since then got greedy, asking users to pay to use Kindara (when we’ve already paid for Wink) and then playing around with Kindara and ability to track one’s daily data, with endless bugs and issues since around Thanksgiving of 2017 (what an inconvenient and stressful time to roll out such an overhaul guys!!!) and messing up the community (as of today it seems Kindara won’t let me login to connect with the other ladies I’ve become so close to over the past few years-I’m freaking out). Please, please consider fixing your customer service and revert Kindara back to the way it was before the 6.1 version.

Excellent App! Pregnant first month trying

Stop looking at all the other apps, this one is great.

Well, I literally just found out I was pregnant today at the doctors office and Kindara asked me to leave a review; no better time IMO. Today I WAS SHOCKED! Excited but still in shock since I had not yet missed my period. I have been using Kindara to track my cycle for a few years now, never really getting too involved with the cervical mucous portion. I used it mostly to tell me when my last period was (because I swear without Kindara I would always say “I just had it!”) and to be extra cautious (condom and pull out) when having sex on the marked ovulation days when I was preventing pregnancy. This was the first month my husband and I decided to try to conceive and Kindara (perhaps after months of data) was spot on. I think the format is super easy, you can adjust the alerts, and if you forget to input info, it assumes it for you.

☺️ user turned 😥

I learned how to chart using this app almost a year ago. I loved Kindara then and would probably give it 5 stars at that point. I have been somewhat indifferent about the updates thus far, but the most recent 3-4 updates have been extremely glitched (each one meant to fix a previous glitch seems to create a new one). I’m extremely disappointed about this app’s move toward paid premium features. I agree with another reviewer that this is particularly unfair to ongoing TTA-ers. Who would just have to continually pay vs a person TTC only needing Kindara until pregnancy is achieved. The feature I am the most disappointed that this app is removing from the free version is unlimited custom data. Any of the other things are just kinda meh to me. I’m very strongly considering looking for a new app or even going to paper charting if I don’t find one that’s as comprehensive as this app. But I would be incredibly sad to lose the this app community over these things, but (I'm thinking because of a new glitch) I cant access the community right now anyway. $4.99/mo is far to steep a price for the features offered, especially considering the glitches.

Best of them all

I have tried almost every period app out there over the last six or seven years... I have been using another app for over a year and with my extremely irregular cycles (40-60 days) I have never been able to get an accurate prediction date for the start of my period. I downloaded this app and input all of my cycle dates from my other app, and was told a predicted period start date that was over a week earlier than my other app’s predicted date. I started charting my temperature every morning, which helped me know a day ahead of time when my period was going to start. Surprisingly my period came a day after this app’s predicted date. That’s the closest prediction I’ve ever gotten from an app! And I was amazed that my temp dropped a whole degree the day before and the morning my period started, just like the info from this app says should happen when a woman is cycling normally. Overall I am extremely impressed and believe I have found my forever app!

Take control of your health!

After being on the pill for over a decade I have been so happy with the health transformation I've experienced with the help of this app app and wink thermometer. I was tired of mood swings, weight gain, hormonal acne, and other sensitivities. Quitting the pill was the best decision I've ever made, my health, mood, and skin have all improved and in such a short period of time! I love that this app works with users that are both trying to avoid pregnancy and conceive- this makes it the perfect app to take you through any phase of life. It's so easy to use and helps me to feel confident in monitoring my phases. I feel like a new, free woman! Highly recommend!

**update: after using this app to track my fertility for 9 months, I am now pregnant and can tell you the exact moment I conceived! My fertility became predictable and easy to work around or work with, depending on your goal that particular month :) can’t say enough of how much Kindara has empowered my personal health journey!

Great app!

I successfully used this app to avoid pregnancy for about 8 months, but mainly I was just trying to gather data to be sure I was ovulating, since my period was pretty irregular. I put in basal temp data religiously for 8 months, then stopped once I felt sure I was really ovulating. I didn't record any data for 5 months. Then I changed over to trying to conceive mode, and Kindara predicted my fertile window based on the old temp data. It was right! :D Very user friendly, much better than other similar apps. Helpful reminders that you can easily customize keep you on track. Highly recommend to anyone whether avoiding pregnancy or trying to get pregnant.

Update: I used this again to track my period after it came back postpartum, and again when TTC a second time. It look longer this go-round, but I was able to use cervical mucus tracking to know peak fertility days this time. Again, very user friendly interface.

Helped me conceive!

I can't say enough good things about this app. When trying to conceive my second child, I read the book Taking Charge of your Fertility by Dr. Toni Weschler (a must read) and upon deciding to start charting my BBT, I searched for an app to help me do it. I tried a couple which weren't user friendly and didn't offer what I wanted, but then I found this app. This was back in late 2012 and I don't think it has been all that long since they launched. Using Kindara from the beginning has helped so much. I was directly in touch with the wonderful women who developed Kindara and they integrated one of the suggestions I made. They really listen to their users and they goal of helping women really get to know their bodies to maximize their fertility has become a reality for me. I am so grateful that I have Kindara to use every day. It makes my life so much easier!

4/5 charting/customization is great

I have used this app along with two other tracking apps for many years. They all have different strengths and weaknesses and using all three guarantees my ability to keep babies away.
I enjoy Kindara specifically for its charting layout and simplistic view. At a quick glance I can promptly determine the information I need by its movable and highly customizable layout. That’s how it earns four stars.
It loses one star for its inability to predict Ovulation. I love that it places this in our hands but I would also like this to be summarized by Kindara . I enjoy having the ability to chart CF type, cervix height and placement, temps and CF consistency and determine the data accordingly but I would also enjoy it if Kindara suggested this based on the data I enter. It’s always nice to receive validation.

I especially enjoy Kindara for its customization abilities. You can toggle categories and add emojis for quick reference. So it can be a silly as charting moon phases along with your cycle or moods, pain level, details about the consistency of fluids- it can be anything.
That is another star!
It looses one bc these customizations only go future tense. If I were to add these in the past, they would delete next cycle. However if they are added “today” they will continue infinitely.
So I can chart things on Kindara that I cannot on other period and fertility apps.

All together: 4/5 stars.

Love this app

I have learned so much about my body over the last 3 years since using this app! Because of Kindara I was able to go off of the pill and do natural birth control until we were ready to start trying (we also used condoms to be sure). I’ve also learned what’s normal and what to look out for. Their articles are incredibly helpful, especially at the beginning. I was tracking cycle, temp, vf, sex, mood religiously for a while and then found myself getting a little obsessive. So I backed off and relaxed a little. I still track but if I miss something it’s not a big deal. Now after being off birth control for almost a year we are pregnant!!

The only reason I gave this app 4 stars instead of 5 is bc my blink thermometer kept breaking and won’t close properly. I should’ve returned the second one that broke, but I got lazy and figured it would probably happen again. It still works, but doesn’t stay together and has a hard time charging.

Also a word of encouragement to anyone charting, be patient with yourself. And be patient with your partner. Also, take a break and relax for a while if you find yourself thinking a lot about it or counting your data often. I’m not a dr but I do know that our bodies don’t function well when we’re stressed. Download a meditation app and an exercise app too. Those will help too.

Peace and love to you on your journey to health.

Premium Price is Ridiculous

I've been using Kindara for a while now. I really liked it when I first started but then a couple of updates caused a bunch of glitches and it a long to to get it back to normal.

Then they started charging for premium accounts, but instead of a one time fee it is subscription based and totally not affordable for me. This most recent update locked out the single custom tracking I was allowed on the free version so now I can't use Kindara the way I was using it before. More and more features are being considered premium which you have to do a costly subscription for. I would be willing to pay a one time fee, but I can't justify spending $50 every year on a single app. I'd even be willing to pay a one time individual fee for each custom tracker. It would be nice if you could just buy the number of custom trackers you want.

Kindara is just becoming less and less useful as all the features move to premium. Part of the benefit of natural family planning is that is supposed to be affordable. If you are trying to avoid pregnancy long term Kindara could end up costing a lot in the long run.

The chart symbology for some features is also somewhat confusing which makes readability difficult. Definitely not worth paying a "Premium" for.

Highly recommend

I have been using this app for about 6 years I think to track my cycle. I recommend Kindara for all my girl friends when we get on the topic of menstruation, whether trying to get pregnant or avoid pregnancy. I tracked my BBT and ovulation (visually) for 4 months before we conceived our first child. The education portion of Kindara was SO helpful and I credit it for our son. He is turning 5 in a just 3 days and we found out today that we are having baby #2! This time around, we weren’t trying to avoid pregnancy but also weren’t really trying so shout out to God (first) and this app for having my fertile window right. LoL if I had been avoiding pregnancy and actually looked at Kindara , I could have known to adjust the sails (for the fertile window) instead of forging straight ahead. Haha but we are so thrilled! Thanks for this great app!

It WAS Getting better

I have had a love/hate relationship with Kindara. A few times I have started to switch because they rolled out something new that didn’t work quite right. At the moment I am having an issue with data being erased. After I input the data for the day, I check my chart and it has deleted half of the information for the previous day, so I have to try to remember it and input it again. Sometimes it will delete data from a week or two previously which is annoying because I won’t remember what was going on that day and the data is lost. Now with the premium option they will be taking away the ability to have more than 4(!) custom data fields. I track so many things in Kindara and am not willing to pay for a subscription to do things that I have been doing for free. If that happens, it might be time to switch for good. It is a shame. This was the best fertility app I had come across, but if it comes down to it, I will just track it myself instead of pay.

Another option for birth control!

When I was engaged, I was dreading the idea of using hormonal birth control. I thankfully found out about the Fertility Awareness Method and got Kindara in time for me to learn about it before officially using it to avoid pregnancy. It's a great app for people that are committed to charting their cycles and tracking their fertility.
I like that Kindara is an organized and compact way to keep track of your cycle, but also does not tell you specifically what you can and can't do based on the data. As with most things, a user must still be informed and know what they are doing to use Kindara. In other words, Kindara does not interpret the information for you. Having said that, there are plenty of knowledge resources and tips within Kindara for people that are learning about tracking. There is also a community within Kindara that is a great resource of experience and information if questions should arise.
My favorite thing about FAM is how empowered I felt when I learned more about what my own body was doing and understood what my cycle was saying.
this app has helped me stay on top of my charting no matter if I am at home or traveling, because it is all right there on my phone. Highly recommend to people that are serious about learning the method and faithfully charting.

I pay for the premium version, but the app till kept mood tracking, vaginal sensation, and other premium features locked.
