Bitsboard Flashcards & Games Reviews

Overall, this is a great app for language learning. I use it nearly every day. I upgraded to Bitsboard Pro so that I can share boards with others and so that I can bulk edit. Well worth it.

This is a very versatile tool, but there are a few bugs that, if fixed, could make this even better:

In order to edit a board, I have to select my user, select "user settings," which takes me straight to my account, and then I have to hit the "back" button in order to select "boards" under settings. This is annoying to do every time. It feels like a have to ride past my bus stop every time, get off, and walk back. It would really help to be able to get to editing my boards more easily.

It would really help to be able to import audio files from elsewhere instead of having to record them straight into BitsboardFlashcardsGames . You can do that with pictures, just not with audio files, which is a real bummer.

It would be really nice to have multiple fonts supported; specifically, it would help if IPA (phonetics) fonts were supported. Bitsboard makes my foreign language entries look weird and hard to read by converting those foreign characters to cursive while the other letters in the word are in comic sans or another common print font.

All that said, it is an awesome tool for learning and reviewing things. The many different games for reviewing the same pieces of information is one of the best features of BitsboardFlashcardsGames. Great job, developers! Keep up the good work!

I use BitsboardFlashcardsGames to create exercises to help a friend with aphasia practice grammar and sentence construction. I appreciate how easy it is to put in my own content personalized for my friend, how flexible BitsboardFlashcardsGames is in creating exercises, and how my friend can incorporate physical movement with re-acquiring sentence grammar. It allows my friend to practice, practice, and practice. However, although there is much information on using the program, I still find it not very intuitive to use and, even after a year, I still feel like I am often learning to use it by trial and error. I would appreciate it if the instructions were organized more by: "if you want to do x, then follow these steps" given from the various perspectives of the different roles users play (e.g., as creator of lessons, as teacher, as student in a class, as independent learner, etc.) But this might be the price of the flexibility of BitsboardFlashcardsGames . It is really an incredible and powerful tool with many hidden applications, in my context at least, beneath the surface and I appreciate it greatly.

I suppose if you are looking for pre selected lists this may be helpful. Or if the only words you need to study are basic K-2 This is the only way I can imagine the amount of positive reviews it has received.
Trying to study for your spelling list at school or creat your own is a disaster of time suckage. In theory, to add words specific to you or your child, add a picture, add a description and have a test plus games would be amazing! In reality you will add words, pictures and boards just to find that they disappear. I have spent hours trying to create lists only to have them revert back to empty or the default (bizarre) picture.
BitsboardFlashcardsGames crashes every 15 min or so and locks up periodically. Trust me I have tried everything! Like I said, if it worked it would be great! Unfortunately the program is just not there. This goes for all Bitsboard apps, I have tried several in past years, upgraded to PRO several times to no avail.
Don’t do what my family did, we wasted many hours and money. Tried again this week (2/2/20) to set up a board, spent at least 2 hrs, only to have the board disappear then reappear with half the words and back to the “default” pictures. Also on several games the audio does not work.

I purchased the pro version of BitsboardFlashcardsGames, and while I enjoy the features it offer, I really wish I could get some more flexibility in the Spelling Bee part of BitsboardFlashcardsGames . I wish I could see how many words are in a board, and I wish I could require capitalization of words.

All four of my kids have loved and learned from Bitsboard for the past 8 years! It’s an App the whole family can use! We love Memory and our kids learned the World Flags, Cities, Animals, Vehicles, Spanish, YOU NAME IT, beginning around 18 months old! We love the 4-player feature so that “Mommy and Daddy” can play too! When I needed help with BitsboardFlashcardsGames , Michael Reining was quick to respond to my needs! He was so helpful and made everything right again! Bitsboard is definitely our FAVORITE app we’ve ever downloaded. It’s great for all ages, babies-adults. It’s engaging and filled with endless education. We’ve been using BitsboardFlashcardsGames since my first child was about 2 years old and she’s 9 now. We have a 7 year old, a 3 year old, and a 2 year old as well, and they’ve all been using this fantastic app since about 16 months old! THANK YOU BITSBOARD!!!

Finally an app that we can share remotely AND be able to collect data! I’m a BCBA working with children with special needs. They love BitsboardFlashcardsGames and actually prefer it to other programming. The settings allow to change sounds, the array, the pictures are a great quality and you can always add your own. The range of games allows for generalization and multiplayer functions. I highly recommend this as a way to support VB MAPP programming for LR, tact, echoics, etc. And to support any existing programming. A web-based model would be ideal for those not on iOS.

I homeschool my son who has special needs, and there are SO many ways to use BitsboardFlashcardsGames. There are countless boards and classes already set up, but if you want to create your own it easy to do.
If your child has a communication device because their nonverbal, you can use this to help teach the icons for words.
I also homeschool my daughter who is atypical and this is very helpful with some aspects of her homeschooling.
This is one of the best educational apps I’ve found for children with special needs. Kids with autism will also love the photo focus of BitsboardFlashcardsGames.

I first got bitsboard more than 2 years ago and it is still MY GO TO APP for everything educational. As a special educator and Autism Specialist I fully recommend and endorse the Bitsboard App. I had written a bad review recently, as bitsboard hadn’t been updated in over two years, however I found out that it is now under new developers and they are to thank for the updates that bitsboard now has. I’m thankful that it has come under new ownership so that Bitsboard can be all and more than it was! Love it ❤️

I love BitsboardFlashcardsGames. As a speech language pathologist, I can use this and WordVault to tackle all kinds of communication goals. Access to the user-created boards and various incentivizing games are what sets Bitsboard apart from other apps. I love that I can toggle the verbal feedback, written words and such on or off to give more cuing to some clients and reduce auditory and visual distractions for others. My only complaint is the relentless crashing but BitsboardFlashcardsGames is useful enough that I keep working around it.

I love BitsboardFlashcardsGames! I appreciate the time they put into to making a fun and engaging platform for students and teachers. It makes planning for sessions easy and fun. I’ve been looking for a platform to allow me to make interactive games like this, but have been spending/wasting time. BitsboardFlashcardsGames is spot on everything I need. I also appreciate how accommodating customer service is and will be recommending BitsboardFlashcardsGames to my fellow SLPs out there. 11/10 for me!!!!🤩

I use BitsboardFlashcardsGames to work with mostly with my two year old as we practice alphabet recognition and other preschool concepts. It would be a 4-5 star rated app if it didn’t require a inconsistent login process that never seems to work seamlessly. When I can get it to login at all, it is after telling me that the password was incorrect. Other times it simply freezes and is unresponsive and therefore not portable which is majorly frustrating and disappointing. It doesn’t make me want to upgrade to the paid version

I use BitsboardFlashcardsGames to make flashcards for myself to study birds for upcoming international birding trips. It does that quite well, but it's often a mystery to get it into an editing mode. It also frequently asks to login into my apple account for no known reason. Fortunately, I learned that it doesn't need to be logged in. Just hit "cancel" on the login screen, wait for it to tell you "login failed", and then you can go about your business.

My time with Bitsboard has been less than exemplary. The search functions for the internet result in poor and sometimes inexplicable results. The pictures are often out of frame or blurry. BitsboardFlashcardsGames has recently started to black out parts of text and fail to load others, resulting in an inability to read anything short of squinting at the screen. And this is after having purchased the full version. Please, PLEASE fire the people in charge of programming and hire someone useful. A lot of this stuff seems pretty basic.

BitsboardFlashcardsGames is simple and fun so children remain focussed yet energized in their learning efforts.
If you are educator BitsboardFlashcardsGames gives you an idea of what you can do but you will need the pro app to create classes and at our school we shifted to the student app to remove any distractions of the catalog.

Such a wonderful tool, it is amazingly easy to use and create lessons. Share your creations and see other ideas. Trust that I am a critic, this is really the best of the best. Grammar, Phonics, Parts of Speech, Vocabulary, French, German and Sign Language are just a few of the items available to study in several different ways.

This is my firs review in years, BitsboardFlashcardsGames is excellent. You can customize it just the way you want it and it keeps the interface of new vocabulary as straight forward as it can be for the student.
So long powerpoint presentations! If you want to memorize stuff, this is IT.
Ah, it’s own images are great too, a real help, they’re very expressive!

I have been unable to access the catalog for weeks therefore I am unable to download the boards I need. I receive e
an error message on all my devices that says “Network Error. Check your network connection.” It’s not my network that’s having the issue. I have high speed internet as well as LTE and all other apps are fine. I have sent 2 emails (Not from BitsboardFlashcardsGames because of the network error). I have received no response from Bitsboard. BitsboardFlashcardsGames is useless until I can get the boards I need.

BitsboardFlashcardsGames lets me create instruction aligned to goals and assess children, collecting data through email which can be saved in their drive folders. This is amazingly helpful. The new structure is tricky to adjust to, but I love having classes in which individual children may be added.

This is my favorite app to use with my dyslexic students, but slowly my boards have disappeared.... I had 481!!!!

Please let me know if you have the same problem so we can get it addressed.

I already loved BitsboardFlashcardsGames! So easy to use and customize and it creates so many games for learning to be fun. Endless possibilities. It had its time of neglect, but it is now in good hands and even more wonderful!

I taught ESL to young children for many years, retired three years ago, and just started volunteering as an adult ESL teacher. Couldn’t cope with the boring textbook. I’m back to Bitsboard and my new older students are just as happy as my first graders used to be!

It’s glitchy. I don’t have to pro version, so maybe that’s why it does funny things. I would like to be able to put two pics on 1 slide. Is that possible? Moving pics around in the editor is very troublesome. The font is hard for my ESL learners to read. I can’t figure out how to change it. These things should be easy to do. There are so many good things about BitsboardFlashcardsGames , but also so many annoying things.
