Useful but not working properly

I use quitSTART and it helps, however it works differently on iPad vs phone, better on iPad where more interactive features are actually working. The games, except one, stopped working after the latest app upgrade. On the phone it takes forever to load the cards or anything for that matter. Cost of cigarettes is made up, in my case were cigarillos that certainly cost more than what quitSTART entered. So the financial incentive is diminished bc the cost is inaccurate. Definitely quitSTART needs improvement, at least if all the features would work!

Just Ehhh

When I first downloaded quitSTART, it was great, but now that I’ve started on Chantix to help me, a lot of the functions in quitSTART aren’t working properly, such as photos and the “brag” button. Every time I try to upload a photo, quitSTART closes completely and the photo does not upload. I wanted to add photos as reminders as to why I want and need to quit. These reminder images are very important to me.

Also, I feel that the “Brag” button is a great feature, if only it worked. I feel it would be a great motivator, however, when I click on the button, it only opens up my messengers, printers, notes, etc. when I believe it is supposed to redirect me to a community page of some kind. Not sure about that because I can’t get it to work unless it only wants me to brag to people in my own contact list, but it doesn’t make sense because it tells you that your progress will be featured somewhere where others can view it to motivate them to stay quit.

quitSTART is all whacked out right now and I hope they get it working soon.

It’s an ok app

I guess it does what it’s designed to do. It’s a bit bland and the games are boring. I don’t know how they’re calculating money saved since the cost of cigarettes is different from state to state and in some places within the same city and there is no way put in the info to change it. The cards are generic and nothing inspiring about them. It’s basically good at counting how many cigarettes you haven’t smoked. It wants me to long in 5 times a day and it’s not necessary imo and write in diary which I don’t need. No health tracking info. It needs some updating.

Helping me meet my goals

I’m 19 and last year during senior year of high school I let myself get addicted to Juul then I went to Italy for a month where I smoked a pack and a half a day. I made terrible choices and downloading quitSTART is just one step I'm taking to quit. I’m doing this without any medication to help. I think downloading quitSTART should not be your first choice. What I did was first I went to a hospital and talked to a doctor and I was honest with the doctor and asked for any help they could give me. Then every day since I’ve done something differently but something that is clearly enforcing to my brain that I want to quit. This is one of my steps and I plan on using it to try and get through this weekend. I’m a college student so I know I’m gonna get a lot of triggers. What I think is great about quitSTART is that I can set locations for it to remind me. I’ve set reminders for all the frats at my school, my friends dorm and the place I usually get pods or cigs. Tomorrow my step is I’m gonna call a hotline and just talk to them. I think the most important thing for myself is to be committed and also to prove to my brain I’m committed. By saying every morning I’m not gonna smoke and then doing an action that directly aligns with that has made my urges less controlling. I wish anyone reading this the best of luck, you can do this!

Super cool!

I’m 21 and addicted to the Njoy vape. I started noticing I was getting really bad acid reflux and nausea and also it made my breathing go really low and two months later I found out it’s because of vaping nicotine and I yesterday decided to quit vaping. I didn’t know there was an app for quitting vaping and quitSTART is so awesome. It helps you quit. It has lots of quotes from tips to inspiration to challenges for the day and you also login how you’re feeling however many times a day and it helps you with the cravings and withdrawals and all that. I one thousand percent recommend downloading quitSTART if you’re wanting to quit smoking.
The only thing I don’t like is this thing doesn’t have an option for quitting vaping only cigarettes so I had to guess how many cigarettes I smoke based off how much I vape a day so that was annoying.

Great but wish it had other options

I’m 25 and have been vaping for 7 years. I’m trying to start a family and obviously you shouldn’t be vaping or smoking while pregnant so I needed to do it for my future family. I wish that when quitSTART asked if you had had any slips, that they would include Vape puffs rather than how many cigarettes. Or if they could add a section of “have you been using any nicotine replacement therapy options”. Like today is “officially” my quit date, but as I’m typing this I’m chewing a piece of nicotine gum.

Best for Cold Turkey

quitSTART definitely seems to be geared more towards quitting cold turkey. Which is great if that’s how you want to do it. But I have been smoking heavily for nearly 20 years and cold turkey is not my choice. I am tapering off of cigarettes and have reduced dramatically within a week by my own accord. I have not made it to my quit date just yet. The check ins are great but as I am still tapering down and still smoking, it is a bit discouraging to see those cigarettes counts as “slips” even though I haven’t made it to my quit date. Other features of quitSTART are great. The tips are cool. A tutorial would be awesome to have.

Not Yet Quit: Expect Future Edits

Just got this yesterday when I decided to quit on my birthday (in 3 weeks), made my plan, and bought my last cigarettes. I checked out several apps before this and none of them had anything to say to someone who is still working on quitting. I’ve checked this several times already, looking at tips, setting tags — I have high hopes

The games they offer for distraction when you’re having a craving are fun and help you get past moments of uncertainty.
I set my quit date and I haven’t smoked in 4 days and I’ve had a grip on cravings because I choose to use quitSTART as support rather than just ignoring the alerts and check-ins.

Helps one stay focused

Quitting smoking is a mindset. Setting a date and having all the support and tools one needs is imperative. My PCP said that typically, nicotine is out of your system generally within 7 days. I wound up giving half the patches and lozenges away and just stayed with quitSTART . I lost all urges within 10 days. Not everyone will get the same results as fast as I did. My body was telling me it was time to quit. Listen to your body.

Thank you for your help

I have tried to quit numerous times, but never had the support that I get with this. And all the little tips really help a lot. Tomorrow is my Quit date but I have been using the patch since last Sunday and I haven’t had a cigarette sense tomorrow at 2:30 will be seven days. I have a picture of my unborn grandchild as my wallpaper on my phone, I use that to remind me I need to be totally done by February. And with your help, I can do this.
Thank you so much.

Glad I found it

When I first downloaded quitSTART I had no idea that within 30 days I would actually stop smoking. The daily tips and reminders are a great feature. Although many apps have reminders this one has been particularly helpful in my journey to maintain Smoke Free. I am now going into my second month without a single cigarette. After 46 years of smoking quitSTART has been helpful in keeping me on track. I highly recommend giving it a try.

Thank you for helping me become Smoke free.

The tipsy recieve several times are a life saver and has kept me from reaching for a cigg at times. I knew that ciggarettes were becoming my murderer, the effect of smoking all these years such as cigg cough and extra phlegm could not be his from others, I was embarrassed I have not smoked a cigg since Oct. 20, 2022. Not quite three months. I want to continue with participating for three more months just to help me prevent relapse which really worries me but so far so good. Thank you

Best Cold Turkey App

Whereas other quit smoking apps mean well, quitSTART most effectively helps the person who has quit cold turkey. The other apps seem to encourage smoking or slips in subtle ways. Like select a quit date, for instance two weeks from now. That doesn’t work for me. I’ll just smoke right through it. Nicotine replacement therapy doesn’t work for me either so don’t tell me my chances are better with it. I guarantee you I’ll smoke with the patch on my arm! quitSTART encourages quitting no matter what. And it seems to check in with me at those times when I most need some follow up. I’ve recommended quitSTART on a personal level and now in my review. My friend who quit three months ago is now using it! It’s definitely useful.

Today is the day

quitSTART has been very helpful. It seems as though they know when I’m feeling the urge or craving, because that is when I seem to get an encouraging text. Very supportive, encouraging and motivational. I am on day six, no cigarettes, although I searched and found quitSTART a couple of days after I had my lady cigarette. It feels so good not smoking, food taste different. Smell isn’t in my hair and clothes. Don’t wake up looking for a cigarette. If you are reading this, hopefully you will be encouraged and empowered via quitSTART.

Very supportive

You can’t beat the consistency and positive support of this program. I definitely opened my mind to different and better ways of thinking and approaching my quitting tobacco.
I’ve tried and failed at quitting many times. This is the first time I’ve stuck to it more than 6 months. I stopped counting the days and instead began counting the money I was saving by abstaining. This my help you, also. Best of luck to everyone who wants to permanently and forever rid their lives of cigarettes (tobacco).
I sincerely appreciate all your help and support.

Extremely Helpful

I had a plan to quit and quitSTART really helped. I recommend to anyone trying to quit smoking. The only suggestion I would give to the developers is if possible to add an option to increase the amount of ‘check in’ texts you receive. I personally liked this feature where you answer a yes, no question and receive a message or suggestion back. I only got a few of these in a few months but more often would’ve been good too. But this is a wonderful app; very thankful to have had it.

Really helping on my journey to quit!!

I love the tips & check-ins. Some of the games need instructions. Or I’m too old to figure out!!
It would be nice to have a time on your check in for when you lasts checked in, again, I’m too old to remember the last time I checked in, therefore how many cigarettes I smoked!! Not fair!!!
I love quitSTART !! I have cut back from 1 ½ to 2 ppd to a little over a ½ ppd. Soon I will be a non-smoker!!!! 🥳🤩
Just add a “Last check-in time” when then check-in screen pops up.
Thanks 😊
As I been using quitSTART , I’ve noticed a few things.
When it’s time to check in or it gives you a check in tip, you have a split second to tab how you are doing before it goes to the inspiration, tips, FYI, etc.
the other issue is, most of the tips to help stop cravings are to exercise. A lot of people who are quitting smoking, already have a pulmonary disease which makes them short of breath with minimal exertion!
Please add pulmonary exercises that can be done by respiratory patients.
Thank you!!!

Quit smoking Jan 9

I set my date to quit & the same day I was diagnosed with severe Covid. Placed on a drug not approved by FDA. But apparently it worked I was totally out of it for 5days. Had no desire to smoke , I wouldn’t recommend anyone trying this but here I am one month smoke free. Cravings hit occasionally but I worked thru it. Deep breathing busy myself doing anything to keep my mind off of the cravings. I also used tootsie roll pops. It was a good way to busy my hands. My dr put me on Wellbutrin 150mg sr twice a day I started hallucinating, confused & everything but the right thing. But I stuck it out & im still quit. Not even a puff. I’m thankful for the help with texts & advice.

So far so good

I have smoked most of my life. I quit for six months in 2013, but met with stress I didn’t know how to deal with and started back up again.
I love quitSTART is free and the check in reminders throughout the day. It’s very helpful to keep me on track. The tips and FYIs are also great b/c every little bit helps. Also enjoy the distraction games because I can’t figure them out lol.
