Streaming works, but cannot create an account

Nice to stream this app live from afar, but I’ve been getting an “unknown error” message when I try to enter a password while creating an account. It’s been happening for weeks over multiple iOS and app updates.

Furthermore, the feedback link from WNYC only offers the simplest FAQ style answers, and does not have a working “nor what you’re looking for link” to try to contact someone or solve the problem on my own. I’ve tried in multiple browsers.

this app is hands down the best public radio in the country, but WNYC is lightyears behind in quality.

Still Kicking

Feb 22, iOS 15.3, no problems at all, and nicely organized with some well-thought-out on demand features for folks who have a favorite show or a music genre to explore. Also much appreciated is the absence of ads, mountains of streaming ads/support, etc. For some reason while listed in the group of stations there's no link to regular WQXR so you have to use the QXR app for them. Recommended. PS Support public radio.

I love this app but it doesn’t work anymore

It used to work perfectly but a couple weeks ago it completely stopped functioning. It tries to open but crashes every time. I can’t get to the bookmarks and saved episodes, but I’m hoping everything’s still there and the next update fixes it. I really miss being able to use it.

Buggy

After pausing streaming episodes, WNYC cannot resume playing. Screen layout is not optimized for displays with notches/no home button, so controls are covered by the home indicator. Scrubbing backwards or rewinding is buggy, resulting in WNYC skipping forward. App deserves 2 stars, but giving it 5 because it is my local public radio station.

crashes on iphone X R

I love this app and my wife and I donate regularly, but WNYC has never been all that great. We mostly use it because streaming sounds better than radio, at least from our home, so we mostly just want it to work. The unnecessarily long load times on the splash time were annoying but tolerable. I’d go pour my coffee, get some milk, and then come back and hit play. But now, after upgrading my iPhone and WNYC , it just doesn’t work at all. It doesn’t seem like a simple, stable steaming app ought to be all that hard to build and maintain. Just saying.

Bombarded with Noom ads repeatedly

WNYC does not handle intermittent connectivity well at all.

“Pre-roll” ads, as they are known in the industry are played even if the audio stream is interrupted briefly. So not only is it annoying to hear Noom (or other) ads repeatedly as you walk through some patchy connectivity, you also have missed more of the program that you were listening to - it could have just been a few seconds but you have to wait for the ad to finish before you resume. Yes, I know how Noom is spelled I don’t need to hear it 10 times on my way to work.

The developers should ad logic that avoids the pre-roll if you were just streaming say within the last 30 seconds. This should not be difficult as the ads are client-inserted i.e. by WNYC .

PS I also now hate your pre-roll sponsors and will avoid them. So you’re doing everyone a disservice

Great app and content

Thank you this app for creating WNYC. Like many in my generation, I do not own an FM/AM radio and certainly do not walk around the city with one. I am now in the habit of tuning in to Morning Edition while getting ready for work and commuting. I like having access to live public radio rather than just podcasts.

Why oh why...

...must I hear the this app sponsorship promo at every 1 train subway stop when my phone regains LTE? Those few seconds could be spent hearing about the latest horrors of the world instead of about Mohonk Mountain House, which IS lovely, but too pricey for my wallet. Once or twice is enough. WNYC also launches so slowly. But I’ll keep using it because news.

Get rid of the station identifying announcements

The idea of WNYC is nice. It allows me to listen to the the station without a radio however please stop the arbitrary station identifier announcement from WNYC . Case in point: I was listening to a very intense discussion on Fresh Air. Just at the time that the interviewee was about to make an interesting point you hear: “this is this app”. What is annoying is that the audio does not pick up from where the interjection occurred. This annoying please fix this!!!

Needs a lot of love

For the love of god, don't leave buttons/scrubbers/etc. UI *underneath* the task switcher bar on iPhone X hardware.

You can see it right there in WNYC Store screenshots.

I don't even care that WNYC takes 3 seconds to start anymore (yes, we get it, JLGreene is great). Just fix basic app features of "being able to reposition audio without accidentally switching apps"

Amazing content, app needs fixing

Please fix the scroller it’s too close to the bottom of the screen for all iPhones without a home button. Also doesn’t scroll when you do get it. Please fix. Content is amazing thank you!

App doesn’t work so well

Like others writing here, I have a lot of issues with WNYC. The audio just won’t stream half the time, it cuts out often, and buffers constantly. This is the only app I have this issue with, I stream things like Netflix no problem. I wish it could be fixed!!

Darkness Please

Hi can u add a black or navy theme to the this app app? It’s blinding, the white is so dang bright even with my settings tweaked. I find it so difficult to listen at night because if feels like my retinas are burning, especially when trying to select a show. Easily a five star app otherwise ... thanks!

WNYC has issues

It’d be more democratic if the broadcast could be heard using my phone’s radio capability instead as a stream. Also I support via donation and every pledge drive I’m hoping I don’t have to hear about “sponsors” no matter how well crafted. Lastly you got rid of Leonard Lopate and Jonathan Schwartz without disclosing at what financial cost.

By

Neutral because I love the station not the app

It crashes often - however I am able to use it a fair amount of time.
What makes me wonder is WHY are they asking for ratings if they don’t heed some of the good advices I read in these ratings. The one about the blinding colors of WNYC is spot on.

This app is indispensable. Please fix!!

I have t been able to open WNYC since the update.... I love WNYC, please address!!
I would give it 6 stars if it were working

Connectivity issues

The content is outstanding, no doubt about it. However, WNYC or the stream, consistently crashes and needs to be restarted, resulting in missing an important part of a story or some critical news. It’s frustrating.

By

Inconsistently good, too many ads

You get way more ads on WNYC , so every time you open it you hear two ads, missing the actual news. Big reason why I stopped donating.

Now you can’t listen to WNYC unless WNYC is open and active; it won’t keep playing in the background!!! What the actual heck?? Defeats the purpose of WNYC . My advice: get a radio, dump WNYC .

Worked well till 06/19

Listen every morning but it hasn’t worked on any device for the last month. Spinning wheel. Please update! I’ve resorted to using the web version.
Thank you!

Failure to launch 4

Six months and as many iOS updates and I am still unable to enjoy this app on my iPhone 8S. All I am seeing review-wise is the same problem. Why is your app developer not able to address this issue more quickly? I am a sustaining member and WNYC was one of the reasons why I support this station. Should I have second thoughts?

Please fix this ASAP!

This app is not user friendly

Radiolab used to have their own awesome quirky little app with shows that went back to the start(some of the best shows imo) but I guess this app said no more. The older shows are no longer available. The this app app over all is not pleasing to use. Same for the podcast.

I love this app

But it stopped working! I listen every morning while I’m getting ready for work but it no longer opens. It crashes every time, even after most recent update.

Please fix!
