The Times of India - News App Reviews

TOI is the greediest app I feel. They want to capitalize on making money o the Lahr that will get the most number of hits like news updates on COVID. Right on top of the page they will flash as with sometimes not able to close the ad by cliCLKNG AD button. I see other reviews with developers responding asking for “scree shot of ad and all”. What is wrong with you developers asking for snapshot from every person ? Are we doing QA for you or you rolled out a untested product ? Especially in such difficult times they want to mint money by flashing ads all over. I just wish there was a better way to catch up on news from India. The Times Group has lost all its morals and values it used to be in 80’s and 90’s. Now all is about money and not about news. The other day they flashed Randhir Kapoor COVID and in hospital news as top headlines. WHAT is WRONG WITH YOUR NEWS SENSE ?

They seemed to have crossed all the limits with showing an ad with animation and sound while reading an article or scrolling through the news. Even without clicking the ad. God save TOI. Been reading it since 30 years now but their greed keeps going up
And up and journalism keeps going down. It has become a film fare magazine with anything and everything about Bollywood and tv celebrities and their kids. And now ads popping out anytime. Terrible.

TheTimesofIndia used to be good and my prime app for Indian news.. however off late it has too many ads on iOS version.. sometimes cover the full screen and sometimes part of the screen and the X button does not work to remove the ad overimposed window to read the news underneath it... Sorry, will have to uninstall now.. I downloaded it to see the news and not struggle with Ad windows..👋👋👋 and after taking TOI + subscription, each and every link of news takes 10-15 seconds to load!!!.. if I sign out of TOI+ , the same news links load up instantly.. reported this issue to the helpdesk and also shared screen recording of the same.... THEY CASUALLY RESPONDED TO JUST UPDATE TheTimesofIndia !! When I reverted back that this problem is persisting in both the old as well as current version and is linked to TOI+ login.. still NO action taken for over a month citing COVID delays !!!😮😮

I enjoyed the experience of the Times of India app until recently, even not minding when ads would pop up, but last couple of weeks there has been an Empires and Puzzles game ad that pops up as a full screen and has a countdown for the ‘X’ button but no amount of hitting that button takes the ad down to return to the news sections. You have to shutoff TheTimesofIndia and let it be idle for god knows how long. My husband actually just deleted TheTimesofIndia after a few times this happened and I am now looking to find alternatives. This is not right and TheTimesofIndia developers are not fully testing to make sure readers enjoy the experience. Please fix it or you will lose more readers.

This news org will portray itself as a news provider, however they are opportunistic hyenas playing with the sentiments of the people.
They will often take money from shady/dirty celebs involved in sex and drug rackets, go after x employees with a malicious vendetta, and try to pull down other nationalist news portals. They aren’t in sync with the people.
The host Navika Kumar was prt of the radia tapes but has the audacity to ruin the good name of a self made news tycoon called Arnab. He is a force to rekon with and TOI can try as hard as it wants, it’s standing in the rain, naked for all Indians to see.

TheTimesofIndia does not meet the quality standards one expects from apps on the Apple App Store. Firstly, when typing in a text box (such as writing a comment on an article), it does not autocorrect spelling mistakes. Secondly, it constantly logs the user out.. why do I need to sign in every time I launch TheTimesofIndia and try to post something? Sub par development team, and sub par supervision of dev team. Also, they do not seem to learn from the reviews other users are leaving.. so no desire to improve either. TheTimesofIndia should not be successfully passing through Apples vetting process.

It’s actually a pretty good app, with a decent interface and thorough news coverage. But one thing that bugs me is EVERY time TheTimesofIndia updates, my notification settings are reset and I am logged out of my account! Please fix this!

It’s been a year or two since Prayagraj is the official name of this ancient city & NOT Allahabad. Why hasn’t it been changed yet in TOI website and TheTimesofIndia ? In the city news section, where there is list of cities, the name of this city is incorrect. Respect the sentiments of the majority of Indians & make the correction. In the list of cities for city news, change Allahabad to Prayagraj. Don’t write a developer response asking me to email you when you know what needs to be done.

So many ads about ‘sad news confirmed about xyz’ .... all of which looks suspiciously like news items. This entire news feed is full of Clickbait. I find it so bothersome to scroll through it to find out good news articles. Also, interspersed our ads for people who need donations for medical conditions. I cannot tell if this is also Clickbait or real. What has happened to the proud Times of India paper that I use read as a young person.??

Was an avid reader but since few months the quality of journalism has gone pathetically down. Recently there were lot of problems between India and China, due to which lots of people stopped buying chinese products or apps, but TOI has not stopped marketing the Chinese products. Sometimes its very important to look for what the people of your country want, it cannot always be business. Hence I am looking for some better news app.

I have been using TheTimesofIndia for a while , I do understand why ads are needed however with the new release , it has messed up user experience . It’s very irritating when you want to scroll through the headline , ad pop up coz of the layout change development team did with recent upgrade. Worst user experience with the new version. Uninstalling TheTimesofIndia ..

Dear times of India team TheTimesofIndia was working fine till last week, just after purchasing the full acres the experience has dipped to a unprecedented level.
Even on WiFi TheTimesofIndia loads like forever and with the upgrade by Apple not sure what you guys are doing to get it fixed. Please do so ASAP else no use paying for content if cannot be delivered well

The real news is usually very limited and after the first few headlines and advertisements they have a huge section of ‘entertainment’. It seems that they have a reporter sitting in kareena’s family who makes sure that you get to know the latest about taimur. And then they will occasionally update articles about how to have better sex and keep it there for ages. And yes as mentioned in the other reviews, they do have a lot of soft porn images.

The pop up ads are so intrusive that I’m considering deleting TheTimesofIndia on my phone. Some ads once in a while was ok but the new feature of popping up and occupying the full screen while reading an article or looking at the list of articles is beyond annoying. Enough for users to stop using TheTimesofIndia .

I used to like TOI mobile app. I have been using it for last 5-6 years. But lately app was so buggy. App developers messed up big time. So many crashes! Scrolling wasn’t smooth anymore, same sections repeat again and again, indication to show if a story was already read wasn’t working anymore. All and all, app was screwed lately.

The whole times of india empire is built on advertising. They will do anything for it , including infecting your phone with viruses. Try to go to any page and you will see a page with virus pop up which tracks and infects your phone. They have more advertisements the news on the website and on the application.
My only suggestion is never use TOI app or the website.

Happy with content but the Bollywood and other bikini stuffs at front page is always a bad moment when trying to open in office or at home infront of kids. Have it but just a click away and not on front page. I do get the TRP part of it but I don’t see the same in other online international online news paper. Hence feel it is doable.

Can’t believe that a once-upon-a-time prestigious newspaper like the times of India needs to resort to porn and semi nude pictures in order to earn readership. Also hate that they harp too much on negative news, most of it that is not even necessary to share as news!! I wish there is more positive news which actually will help to increase the faith of our people in themselves as well as a nation. The media can play a major role in educating, improving the pulse of the nation.

I have been using this application since 4 years and have always liked it. But in the recent times, there are too many advertisements which don't let me read the articles properly. It's very annoying when you're reading something and the advertisement video keeps covering your screen.
I would request the developers to kindly look into this matter seriously.

I do appreciate the news and analysis given in Times application. They are short but thorough and that I never get on any tv news channels. I always completely go through it when I open my iPad. I simply love it.

Is it a news channel or porn mag? They keep putting obscene, nude inappropriate pics or stories of celebrities for no reason whatsoever which, may be, a small section of perverts might enjoy putting them there or browsing through. Every time you go to photo section you find these stupid captions .., she bares it all or her bold avatar or similar. Don’t you have anything else to put except this crap which most don’t enjoy. It’s becoming a trashy app.

While app is good, at the bottom of each article and/or items there appears a comments from readers.
The contents of which are highly abusive, commented by uneducated, uninformed individuals who are cowards that they remain unanimous. They use foul language and most of the time make irrelevant comments that is nothing to do with the subject matter of the article.
SUGGESTIONS:
Either edit comments to suit the sober readership or do away with this privilege.
Yes it is a privilege that your commenting readers are abusing, insulting people, degrading culture and religions and they do all that because freedom of expression gives them right to do that.
“Right” that should not be used to abuse.
Finally, Editors should look into this, screen and monitor comments and EDIT them so that Comments section remain clean and readable

I use TheTimesofIndia a lot for my news in India. I was happy when TheTimesofIndia implemented dark mode. But I don’t know if they forgot to extend this dark mode to the widgets or if that’s a design choice, either way it feels like they couldn’t an incomplete implementation. As a softer developer, it’s sad for me to see this.

Overall I like TheTimesofIndia , provides real-time news of India, but not sure why it has to utilise click bait ads (sad news about...). They are really annoying and don’t really add to the reputation of TOI. Please get rid of them.

Application is freezing when opening any news and come back on main screen. User need to close the application and open it again.
I tried to post comment on App Support, there also I couldn’t click Post Comment button even after filling all details.
It seems all broken in app.

Advice: Please provide options for users to skip entertainment and life style relates categories in TheTimesofIndia news wall. Tech news is posted in end, need to read/scroll all the film news ahead

I have been using TheTimesofIndia for years now but from past few days I see Ads suddenly pop up and some of them have audio and makes it difficult to use.

I removed it today because for the passed one week, every morning, I see that I have been logged out despite keeping myself logged in. What is wrong with TheTimesofIndia? I don’t understand.
