Good App Gone Bad

This was an almost perfect app. It provided the data I needed for the several streams I needed to watch. The ads were obtrusive, but tolerable. It has lately become entirely unusable. It provides the data for the top site in my list, but if I try to select any other site, it launches a loud bright full-page animated ad that cannot be cancelled for ten or fifteen seconds. When it is cancelled, you go back to the data for the original site. In other words, the $9 ad-free ransom the developer is demanding is essential to view more than one site. Thanks but no thanks!

Paid for ad free twice.

FloodWatch has been useful to me for a long time as I live in a flood zone. It doesn’t do much, and what it does do is not in real time, but it’s helpful. However, over the years the ads have gotten more and more intrusive. They take over the screen and it requires closing and reopening FloodWatch . I think developers deserve to get paid, either by users or advertising, but not both. I’ve given this dude $1.99 on at least two occasions to no effect. Mind you, there have never ever been any added features. He simply converts 3 data points from the USGS and makes it work on a mobile platform. I should ask for my money back. I’ve bought a real rain gauge and will check the creek height using a device with larger screen. I would have thought FloodWatch had been abandoned, but dev is selling more ads all the time and has updated enough to work on iOS 13.

Somewhat useful

FloodWatch appears to give stage but lacks the ability to report other data reported at the gage, such as discharge or turbidity. It also would be nice to have a link to the data source website such as the usgs website or the NOAA site so you can see more detailed information. Lastly it would be nice to see more information on the gage itself. Stage is reported, but based on what datum? Again a link would be useful. Other features that would be a step above could include a historical data query or data extractor to email.

Data is good, interface not intuitive

I tapped the “+” symbol to add a gauge but none appeared on the map. I had to pinch or pan the map to get the markers/gauges to appear. I’d recommend showing gauges on initial load, or at least show gauges on the map after a 1 second delay.

Data shows current conditions. It would be fantastic if data included average conditions or trends. E.g. I know the Cumberland River is 27ft height right now. How does that compare to this time last year? What is the average height during the year?

Ads are overly obtrusive

This was a useful app at one time but the full screen ads have become so annoying as to make FloodWatch more trouble than it is worth. I would pay to remove ads but $7.99? That is far too expensive for what it provides. There is a competing app that offers the same graphs of more station parameters and it is only $1.99 for the ad-free version. That’s more realistic.

Useful tool

We use FloodWatch quite often as we have land that we have to get to that is across a river. It saves us a trip if the river is too high to cross and it lets us know if we need to get down there to move items out of the way. It is really very helpful and we are happy we found FloodWatch!

Almost perfect

It will be much better once they add push notifications (which will come). I also expected more sensors would pop up. My city has varying elevations, so it'd be nice if I could get notified when water reaches a certain level in a certain area.

Really Nice App

Living on the water here in South Louisiana, I'm always looking for the best method of looking at the water levels. FloodWatch is quick and easy. I love how is saves my favorites and I don't have to "remember the names" (hint to the other reviewer).
I would really like to purchase FloodWatch , but when I go to purchase it for $2.99 it ask if I want to remove "one" ad? No, I'd like to remove ALL of the ads. What? Next month another ad is going to pop up and I have to pay to remove that ad too? I guess my only option is to "tip" the developer because FloodWatch is certainly worth "something" even if the ads don't disappear. 👍🏻

Finally a simple interface with realtime data!

FloodWatch is awesome! It has a simple interface that makes it easy to locate stations and get data. The summary page is a nice snapshot and the graphs are great with cfs and feet gauge readings for your viewing preference. This was instrumental in watching local creek levels for paddling my kayak in whitewater.

Just what I needed!

We have a campsite along a river that floods on occasion. On a long shot I searched for an app like this with little hope. Not only is it free but it's exactly what I was looking for. Please add a "tell friends" function.

Thanks for the great app!

Floodwatch

Amazing. This is a very helpful app if you live in a flood plane. I live in somerset county NJ, we flood severely with just a few inches of rain and are surrounded by rivers.

Today is October 27 and we are preparing for the storm of the century. Super storm Sandy is coming and FloodWatch will be tested.

Thanks Brian, you may save our lives with FloodWatch during this storm.

Love the Home Screen widgets

Can you add Lock Screen widgets that are compatible with IOS 16?

Simply great

This thing is exactly the kind of app I was hoping existed when I bought my phone: easy, simple, super helpful and at zero cost. Wow.
I manage a small historic mill on a river with no gages and we don't have money for monitoring equipment. I can use FloodWatch to see what other watersheds are doing in the area to guess on mine. Thanks Brian!

Excellent !!!!'nnnnnnn

One of my favorite apps. Fast accurate info. I'd like to see the favorite screen expanded as I'm monitoring all rivers in six states. They fit but kick me out of FloodWatch after viewing which is annoying. Also I'd like push capability and the ability to email the charts created. FloodWatch is actually better and more user friendly than the USGS web site. Just keep making it better.

Also, is like the capability to automatically surf over to the USGS web page without leaving FloodWatch like FloodWatch on earthquakes takes you to the website and gives the ability to email the page to others. I literally use FloodWatch every day - is tremendous with great potential.

Monitor rivers and streams from your phone!

This is an exceptional app that has come in handy with all the spring rains my area has received. While FloodWatch will not give any warnings of potential flooding, you get instant data from USGS gauges that easily shows the degree to which water is rising or falling. There are plenty of stations to choose from in your area.

New Update

I installed the new update then nothing worked. I contacted the developer who already knew what the problem was and was waiting for his fix approval from Apple. For anyone who may have experienced the same problem as I did just remove the old version then install the new one. Or, wait for the fix to arrive then install that update. It’s a good program to have when the river is rising. Thanks.

Nice information

Very informative application. Very nice to have in the event of a flash flood , while you are living in a flood plain or camping in a low area. Combine FloodWatch with pin pinpoint lightning, I damage, I disasters and radarscope, and you are ready for anything. The only thing I would add, is each rivers flood level and ability to send a push notification if conditions were approaching a flooding potential, based off past data at that location.

No longer works. Please fix.

It was a great ap when it worked, so I gave three stars even though it no longer works. The update didn’t resolve the problem either. I cannot open- it kicks me out when I try to access the ap.
When it worked it was a great ap for someone living along the water. Really hoping it gets fixed ASAP.

Update: the recent update worked, thank you. Ap is working now. Thank you for the quick fix. 5- stars!

Great App!

This is one of those apps that is useful (not a novelty), is simple, and does exactly as it says.
I live on a river and have boats in the water year round. Knowing what is happening via FloodWatch is great. Yes, before FloodWatch (and even now) you can go to the NOAA Hydrologic Prediction Service web site and see all the detail. BUT, you can only see one gauge at a time and of course you need a computer.
FloodWatch allows for viewing many gauges all at the same time and then looking at the detail of any one of them by just touching it. Add this to your phone and be out of town and you always know what is happening while you are away.

Very helpful!

We live on a river, and it is great to see the upstream height changes to know what to expect! And when it is really high, to see when it starts to subside so we know we don’t have to worry...
