4.5 out of 5
Not aligned in Sky mode

When I point my phone at the sky it is not aligned with the stars or planets making it useless. I would contact support but they don't provide a way to do this.,

Puniverse

Don’t work at all. Using iPad Pro running latest iOS. PocketUniverse has never ran on this iPad. Did on my old iPad running 5.1.1. I was hoping this last patch would make it work. Start PocketUniverse and I get blank screen. Still sad…

Can’t change label text size …useless to ANYONE who doesn’t have perfect near-vision

I want to love PocketUniverse. I really do. But if you can’t enlarge the text size when you zoom in, it is utterly USELESS. Especially to vision that is looking at a screen that is dimmed out at night. Seriously? What an utter, utter shame.

I'm sad

This used to be my favorite app, but I finally have to give up the ghost. I've been frustrated by PocketUniverse for several years now. When I point my phone towards an object, for instance Venus tonite, I have to turn the face of the phone about 45° to the right of the planet in order to have it come into view on the screen. It's been like this for years. I don't understand. I used to be able to just point my phone at anything and find out what it was. I used to look forward to reading the news every month but now there's nothing there but a little square listing the super moons for 2024 and that's it! I finally had to download a different star app which I don't like as much but at least if I point my phone at a star it'll tell me what it is instead of me having to point my phone away from the object to try to find out what it is, I guess this has largely gone into the orphan app bin. :-( It was a great app! But it's just not usable and hasn't been for a long time.

I think NEOWISE is in the wrong place

Aside from NEOWISE not being listed under Comets but under Objects, irs location varies a great deal from where other sites put it. PocketUniverse seems to place it lower and more to the north than other sites. And I’ve checked my location and time settings.

Allow enlarging text size

Same problem it’s had since the first version: you try to expand because the text size is so small that you need a magnifying glass to read it - literally - and it expands the dot representing the planet, star, constellation, etc.,everything but the text. If you can’t read the label to know what you’re looking at it’s unusable, especially since iPhone font size is disabled. Shame. It could be so good.

Current events

So, there is a green comet that’s around and if you do a search for “comet“ you get nothing there is no help from PocketUniverse to find the comet and it’s a brief time over our skies this month.

UI is terrible

Can’t tap on the user interface, it’s non responsive. Limits the usability.

Motion tracking is broken for iPhone 12 Pro Max

Contacted dev, fix is waiting on Apple approval. Bumped it back to 4 stars for now.

Checked current version (6.13.7) and still broken on iPhone 12 AND Xs

Compass is waaay off but apple compass is just fine. Even manual alignment doesn’t work. I point north and hit okay and it immediately switches to point west.

Defunct?

The “news“ in PocketUniverse is no longer updating and the website cannot be found. After 13 years it appears that PocketUniverse has gone to the boneyard. It was a good run.

Very nice app!

I love space and PocketUniverse is worth all the money you pay for it.

Great app

PocketUniverse is awesome, the only people that leave negative reviews are the same people that don’t know how to turn on a computer and have to have their grandchildren fix their technical issues.
Don’t be fooled by the people giving negative reviews, PocketUniverse is great, been using it for years.

So Handy & Quick

This must-have app is unbelievably easy and I can get a summary of what’s up, what’s coming, what’s interesting, immediately after opening it. This developer has been perfecting PocketUniverse over the years, and it really shows.

Love this so much!

This was the first app I bought when I got my smart phone years ago. I don’t know why I waited so long to write a review. PocketUniverse is so easy to use, easy to understand and still amazes me with all the things it does.

“Fun with astronomy “

Very informative , interactive and easy to understand . Easy to find celestial bodies. Even a child can learn astronomy as a fun game. Best app for all ages.
Thanks

Use to be good.

Good app. Been using it for a long time. Developer response to a negative review I left was helpful.

Pocket Universe

A very functional and easy to use app. Enjoy using this.

just what i was looking for

an app i can customize how i want to use it any night. wether i’m preparing for astrophotography away from my computer, or just can’t remember where an object is while i have my telescope out. it can be simple, or can show some more advanced options if needed. i’ve been using it for so many years now, and i feel like i just need to say it’s the astronomy app you get and can use for a long time. and big thanks to the developer keeping things actively up to date :)

Love it

Fascinating and fun

One of the best astronomy apps

I am a long time amateur astronomer and I love PocketUniverse. First off I paid to unlock it years ago, and unlike many apps it has continued to be updated and supported when many apps sunset this one has kept going. Thank you to the creator/developer and pleas keep up the good work!

Features

Pocket Universe was the first iPhone astronomy app to support the built-in compass, and it was also the first to add a true augmented reality view using the iPhone's built-in camera! Use the camera view in the evening or morning sky to overlay the labelled view over the real sky.

With over 80,000 stars, beautiful textures, built-in quiz games, updated news, lunar phases, information on the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, an Orrery view, and more, there’s so much to explore.

You can literally hold up your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch in front of you, and the app will use the built-in compass to display the same view of the sky you see - but one that's complete with names and information.

Have you ever looked up at the night sky, and wondered what exactly you were looking at? Pocket Universe is an easy-to-use app that will help you learn the names of constellations, bright stars, planets and more.

Simply hold up your iPhone in front of you, and the view will be exactly what you see - but with names and information at your fingertips.
