This does not help me sort my time Iโm
Going to be on the ground
App stopped updating!
I purchased VegasMateTravelGuide 2 days before going to Vegas. I was looking forward to using it to find great stuff to suggest to our group. Instead, it kept crashing over and over again. When it finally did work, there wasn't a whole lot to it. It just tells you what is around you, which you can pretty much already tell by looking out the window. I wanted a searchable feature so I could look up this restaurant where my companions wanted to eat, but because I didn't know which hotel it was at (Wynn Encore), I couldn't find it until we were a few yards from it. Seems like this one still needs a little work before I call it the definitive Vegas app.
This is a great idea that just does not work. It is set up to be manually updated. They can take your money now and lose interest anytime. The database is already far behind the times.
For instance there are 2 Arizona Charlies and they only mention one. The Southpoint restaurant listing is well over a year old. And on and on and on. Correcting these two examples will not make it right. If they do not have their stuff together now, how can they expect to provide a consistantly good product with updates in a town that is constantly changing. The Arizona Charlies mistake is missing a casino/hotel that is over 20 years old. You can pick almost any casino that you are very familiar with and find that VegasMateTravelGuide falls very short.
I would pay $25 for this program if it were accurate and useful. Today I find it overpriced since the magazines and pamphlets you find on every corner are more accurate. I wish it worked. It has features that would be useful. I can not imagine them ever catching up. If they did, keeping it updated just isn't going to happen.
Don't waste your money.
I'm in Las Vegas right now and I hoped to buy a useful guide but most reviews seem to be missing, despite a rating I can't understand because of the mentioned missing reviews.
This application has potential but it may require several updates until it proves to be a useful tool.
Some information also seems to be old and outdated, for example my hotel isn't finished(construction) yet according to the hotel guide and it has a three stars rating only but I would give it a 4 to 5 star rating.
The author needs to update this application as soon as possible, right now it isn't much of a help.
The concept behind VegasMateTravelGuide is sound, and in practice could be quite useful. When we wanted to eat a buffet but found the line too long, VegasMateTravelGuide was very helpful at noting the closest restaurants including other buffets. The Tips section is useful and (where present) the editorial reviews are good.
Now, VegasMateTravelGuide is missing a lot of things - most of which are stronger descriptions and more editorial and reader reviews. As such, the $5 price is borderline. The maps don't really have a great view of how large the casinos actually are, and floorplans would be even more helpful. An ability to sort restaurants by type (buffet, steak, etc.) or by rating/cost would be most helpful.
Still, VegasMateTravelGuide did save us a couple times on our most recent trip. So if you're going to Vegas this is hardly the worst $5 you'll throw at your trip.
Excellent for traveling to Vegas. My favorite part is the ability to find restaurants by location. It tells you whatโs nearby, whatโs open, and usually has a link to the menu. Been using VegasMateTravelGuide for years and it has gotten better and better.
I'm not a diehard gambler. I do not do the club scene. Spa treatments are not part of my routine. That being said, I am still in love with Las Vegas! We only get out there once a year, but Vegas Mate keeps me posted daily. Sure I use it as a travel guide when I visit Sin City, but I use it a lot more at home when I want to see what's happening at my favorite places. Vegas Mate helps feel more like a local rather than a tourist. VegasMateTravelGuide is money well spent, it is updated frequently and it just keeps getting better.
Very good information on the things to see, places to eat, places to drink, and places to stay in Las Vegas. Very easy to plan out a trip and even more helpful when you're in Vegas. Hungry after walking from one casinos to another? They're always further apart than they seem. Well VegasMateTravelGuide let's you know all the places to eat nearest to where you are at with helpful reviews. I could go on and on about how good and helpful this is. You'll be very happy you bought VegasMateTravelGuide.
Vegas Mate is the de facto standard in iPhone OS Las Vegas resources. there is so much information and usefulness in here that it just blows my mind. especially since VegasMateTravelGuide is only TWO BUCKS... incredible. paper travel guide? no thanks, the info in here is more recent and better organized for my methods of operation. not to mention, this developer is a fiend for updating VegasMateTravelGuide , i don't think he ever sleeps.
as for the kooks that complain about 'finding all this on the web' - nothing does Vegas with the ease-of-use and elegance of Vegas Mate, including other vegas travel apps in the store. if you're the kind of lamebrain that fears spending TWO DOLLARS on a guide that might SAVE YOU HUNDREDS, why are you going to Vegas in the first place?
I use vegas mate before, during, and after every Vegas trip (several times a year!) INDISPENSABLE, there's just no comparison to anything else.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Just tried VegasMateTravelGuide out. Unlike some of the less optimistic reviewers, I think VegasMateTravelGuide has A LOT of potential & already functions very well as a quick guide to Vegas. Now- I am not a person who has all the Vegas info ' in my head,' so it proved well worth the $4.99 I paid for it. I am waiting for the updates and personally will keep using VegasMateTravelGuide for finding stuff to do that is *around* me whilst in Vegas on the fly. Great start- keep the updates coming & thanks for taking on this HUGE task.
Used VegasMate extensively throughout my last trip to Vegas. Extremely helpful app full of useful information on hotels, restaurants, etc. I wanted to focus on dining this trip, and the exhaustive restaurant list, as well as the menus, hours, and prices were all super helpful in finding top notch places that I would otherwise not have encountered or considered. My trip was definitely much better thanks to VegasMateTravelGuide.
If you're really looking to have an enjoyable Vegas experience, VegasMateTravelGuide is a must-have. I used it all throughout my trip, and it made for a much better trip--perhaps my best trip (out of 30+) yet. Definitely worth the price.
A couple of years ago, a career change now requires me to visit Las Vegas every year for a convention, and with that, I was instantly transformed into a HUGE Las Vegas fanboy. I am very much an iPhone addict, and started to search for podcasts and apps related to Las Vegas.
Simply put, this is one of my favorite apps on my iPad and iPhone. Hunter is that friend with all sorts of Vegas related information you wish you had, and he makes that possible with a great app.
I cannot even begin to tell you how much VegasMateTravelGuide has helped me. I can walk into a casino for the first time, and already have a great backstory, where to eat, what to do, what not to doโฆ
Las Vegas can get very expensive, or it can be very cheap, and Vegas Mate helps me out greatly. If you visit Las Vegas on a regular basis, VegasMateTravelGuide is A MUST.
If I ever had the chance to meet Hunter, I would have to shake his hand, and buy him a beer. Keep up the great work! Also check out his podcast, Vegas Gang. This is another must on your iOS device.
Update: The new version (2.6.1) is great! Runs noticeably faster and still all the great content. Still the premier Vegas application with the perfect blend of crowed-sourcing and expert commentary. Keep up the fantastic work!
Vegas Mate has always been a useful tool, but the new content in 2.5 makes it absolutely invaluable. Steve Freiss (of the New York Times and The Strip Podcast) knows more about Las Vegas than anyone and his commentary is fresh, funny, an totally helpful. The gps based features are fun, but I also can't wait to read up on my next flight out to the Sin City. With so many options in Vegas, the cost of VegasMateTravelGuide is totally worth it in making a good trip great!
Super easy to use, it is a definite must have for planning out any trips to Vegas. I never am able to do everything I want when I visit, and itโs nice to have past trips saved with stuff I have already researched. Also great you can add trips way out in the future.
Have an iPhone or iPad? going to Vegas? Then you need VegasMateTravelGuide, End of Story.
Taking advantage of the ability to pinpointe your Location, Not Only does it contain all the vital info on Hotels/Shows and Food, in the latter case it will also tell you if that place is open right now. It was a great saver for us, when it came the the magic question, "so what so we want to eat now?". On more than one occassion it came up with answers on where, what food type and if it was any good!
Wether you are a first time vistor, or Like myself, who has lost count of the number of times he has been, with Ratings, Price Points and Peer Reviews, you will find it an essential companion to your visit, hey its even good for planning beforehand
Where do I startโฆ
I have been using Vegas Mate to help plan several trips to Vegas over the past couple years - but more importantly to enjoy the limited time I always have in town. VegasMateTravelGuide is intelligently designed to address your Vegas needs before and during the time you hit town - by keeping you up on happenings with the news feed, by helping you to plan a trip and bring together exactly the things you want to fill your time with (you can even plan around things not listed in its very large database of options), and by showing you what's close to you when you are in town and want a food or entertainment option on a moment's notice.
So many times I have helped people in Vegas with questions or needs by just whipping out VegasMateTravelGuide and finding the right information for them - whether a phone number or confirmation that the restaurant they want is still open.
The main thing that differentiates VegasMateTravelGuide is Hunter who keeps making it better and better with every improvement he can cram in - like the latest "cloud integration" that will share your itinerary between all your Apple devices. It was always a good app - but in the past year it has become a great app. Nothing I know of will help you enjoy your time in Vegas more than this little $2.00 gem.
I have collected most of the possible Vegas app guides and resources out there - but nothing comes within a light year of Vegas Mate.
My highest recommendation !!

Super helpful! Great tool!!
Awesome App!!
I use VegasMate to put together a list of places I want to visit in Vegas. VegasMateTravelGuide gives great info regarding hours and menus for restaurants as well as great maps to know where you are going.
VegasMateTravelGuide creator, Hunter, has put together a great place to help people who love Las Vegas love it even more. Hunter is awesome.
VegasMateTravelGuide has been a very handy tool in Vegas. We've been 5 times in the past 4 years, so know the strip pretty well (wouldn't need a map). What we would love is a listing of poker tournament schedules for each hotel (at least the more popular ones). Maybe show times and entry fee? Just a thought =).
But for $5, it has a lot of useful features! I'm sure the reviews will start filling in more as the popularity of the iPhone & apps increase.
