ThinQ TV - LG Remote Reviews

ThinQTV isn’t the greatest, but the convenience of being able to use the touchpad in the wed browser beats out using the phone.

On both ThinQTV and LG THINQ app. Every 5 seconds or interaction with the apps. They are throwing in the subscriptions option up. Which by the way they both show 2 DIFFERENT RATES for essentially the “same” thing. Which I think that needs to be looked into because that’s false advertising. Also the fact the IP channels says they are free yet the subscription includes IP channels so I’m just confused on the scam they are running to compete with other competitors.

The subscription option having to constantly being canceled out of every interaction with both apps isn’t pushing me to buy it, but rather not us it. I’m sure I can get a Bluetooth mouse instead and bypass the apps altogether. It’s pointless and unneeded. There needs to be laws or something to prevent constant and targeted spamming of subscriptions ads. I cancelled out of it once. That’s it. I’m not buying it. Either the remote option is free to use or it’s not. Pick one.

You buy an expensive refrigerator, then have to pay a monthly fee for ThinQTV . What a rip off. They don’t even have a representative to trouble shoot. How sad.
It would be nice to be able to talk to someone if you have problems or questions. We needed help with leveling the refrigerator. It sits on the wheels. How do you level the refrigerator when the leveling legs don’t even touch the floor.
If I use ThinQTV then disconnect or delete it does the refrigerator stop running?
App features:

Smart Learner - why do you need that. You go into the refrigerator to get food for breakfast, lunch & dinner, who cares about the pattern. If I go into the freezer for ice cream or into the refrigerator for a soda. I don’t want someone to track my patterns.

Energy Monitoring - it uses power 24/7. Who cares how many times you open the doors. You open the doors to get something you need out.

Remote Control - you program it and it just runs programmed. I don’t need to be on my phone any more than necessary. The control panel tells you when you need a new air &/or water filter.

Push Messages - if the door stays open longer than 10 minutes. The electricity went out, the refrigerator died, or I have ghosts.

Smart Sabbath - would be nice for that.

We got a TCL 2 years ago (we still have and use it) and should have stayed with that brand for our second TV. It had everything we needed and liked. The LG TV We are unable to get the apps that we watch all the time. They do not have Fox Nation, Daily Wire, and several others. We are constantly having to go thru the setup process. It also has a little thinking dial when we change the station for 2 -10 min or we will just have to turn off and turn it back on. I would not recommend an LG TV TO ANYONE!!!

This is not an LG made app. This is a third party app that is SAAS and provides features to you. I wouldn’t suggest downloading no this if you wanted the free LG app that LG offers. This does have its own features and is worth using otherwise.

I just want a TV remote for my LG TV that I spent $1500 for, so what does LG do, they write an app for a remote that every few minutes while you’re using it obnoxious loud music comes on and asks you for 4.99a month. USELESS app! Was trying to come up with an alternative for the remote that comes with the TV that has the issue that everybody hates with the pointer that keeps coming up randomly and darkening your TV screen with menus.

I bought two of LG’s top of the line brand new TVs and installed the ThinQ app. I did have access to my tvs through ThinQTV at first, now nothing works and it won’t connect allowing me the control I had before. I tried reinstalling ThinQTV and it still doesn’t give me access. Now in order to have access I now have to pay them another 4.99 a month to do what I could before. This is crap!

I find it difficult to get local channels it is not easy to navigate!! My tv screen isn’t in color it’s a gray/ black and white color. I can’t get from home to local channels it goes to a bunch of other movies. I dislike the tv and it did not come with directions I know you have to go into the tv for directions but the problem is I don’t know what to look for, I’m hitting everything. HELP

I recently reinstalled this because after two years I thought I’d give it another go. But actually it’s worse. Every time you touch anything the ad for premium pops up making it frustrating to use ThinQTV at all. The directional controls on the “remote” are not there so navigating the apps must be done via the touchpad.

We have owned the tv for 3 months now. The tv controller app worked for 1 day only, after that it has been simply dead! No NOTHING.

Trash app

First of all, I buy a fairly high priced “smart“ TV, and find that it will not allow me to mirror or cast to it from my mobile device. So then on I look online and it says to download ThinQTV. And now you’re asking me to buy a subscription so I can do something with my smart TV that I should already be able to do. Really?

Ridiculous. Tv said to download app to listen through earbuds, app really had nothing and no way to listen. Did premium trial and literally nothing changed on app. Says go through settings on app to cancel subscription but nothing in settings but pdf statements or post a review.

Works great connects easy

Every single click results in a prompt screen to convert to paid. Using ThinQTV is mind boggling frustrating. Also, it seems like they changed the way you add photos to screen saver moments - I can only temporary cast and can’t actually add to the TV screen saver album.

Rest of the controls work fine but you cannot turn the TV off or on with ThinQTV. Kinda worthless and I’m pretty annoyed that I paid $50 for ThinQTV thinking it would give me the same functionality as the actual remote.

I’ve already purchased an LG tv. I’m using ThinQTV as a convenience. Stop trying to milk me for more money. The pop-ups to upgrade become so annoying that I removed it from my phone. Otherwise it worked great and was easy to set up.

App works for a few hours then after that you have to delete it and install it again before it works disappointing .

I just want to run diagnostics on my brand new front load washer to winterize it. (Opening the 4 supply valves to de pressurize them and drain the water)

In the past you could do this by press & hold 3 buttons. Now the buttons are gone to save $ AND I have to pay a monthly fee for ThinQTV!!!

Super annoying ads and subscription service to use premium features of ThinQTV. I’d rather pay another developer for their app than a subscription service to LG. Pass.

They updated my TV and have made it IMPOSSIBLE for me to use. I CANNOT connect to my Roku device where all my apps are available. Not can I even find PBS on the TV dashboard. I feel like the Tv has hijacked control. I would like to throw it out the window.

ThinQTV follows a common pattern of hawking subscriptions in an attempt to get money out of you regularly.

The subscriptions are presented as required to use ThinQTV (they aren’t), and ThinQTV also uses some dark patterns to drive subscriptions, like popping up the subscription dialog while you’re using the volume keys. If you aren’t paying attention you can sign up for the bogus subscription by accident!

The TV remote functionality is good, although it has a tendency to time out so you have to force-quit it and reopen it to get it to work. Which is great for ThinQTV vendor because this shows you the subscription menu again 🙃🤡

I could live with the flaky connection if it was just a virtual remote I could buy for a few bucks. The touchpad mode is miles better than the official LG app. But apparently using dark patterns to scam people with useless subscriptions is more profitable than providing something useful at a reasonable price.

I already paid close to $1,000 for this TV, why in the world does the accompanying app decide to blast ads for in-app purchases in my face? On top of that it can’t even cast from specific apps, only from your camera roll or music. If you select the apps option it gets stuck loading and crashes. Never buying LG again. Every other smart tv on this planet lets you cast directly from you phone without issue, why did LG decide they wanted an invasive mobile app to allow you to do it so they can farm and harvest your personal data? Don’t waste your time, get a different brand of device instead and dump LG.

Functionality works well but screen is taken over by LG ad every 8-10 button pushes. Super irritating music accompanies this ad. When you close this ad it reverts to the basic view. It doesn’t even return you to the same spot you were before being assaulted by the advertisement. If you open any other app on your device the connection is lost so you have to close and then reopen it in order to use the remote.

How can I cancel this? I no longer have access to this tv and don’t need it anymore.

The only good thing about ThinQTV is that there are no advertisements, however, it is a horrible app. If I go off ThinQTV and access anywhere else in my phone and then go back to the remote app, it’s like it’s frozen and it will not work, so I have to close it and re-open it, this is all the time, every time, and no, it’s not my phone, it’s a brand new iPhone and no it’s not my Wi-Fi because everything else works perfect and fast, it is solely ThinQTV

Click bait city. I was constantly having to exit out of Apple Pay because of the full screen ads that pop up every 20 seconds and one click is a "Buy" subscription. I cannot believe a supposedly reputable company is doing this. I was looking into their home hub but NO WAY. I'll be avoiding LG.

I just purchased a new LG tv And was instructed to download the LG thinq app. ThinQTV popped up first and the logo is almost identical to the one in the instruction manual. It is my fault for not looking more closely but it was late and I just wanted to get the TV working.
ThinQTV requires the user to purchase a plan, which I did, to the tune of $54 😱😱😱
As soon as I did that I realized that this was not the correct app. I am in the process of requesting a refund but have not yet resolved it.

While I didn’t end up needing ThinQTV (which appeared to function as described), I do have to give 5-stars to them for the timeliness of their customer service response and the ease of cancelling the trail subscription … for that alone they have my sincere respect. Thank you.!

ThinQTV is as frustrating as it gets. It goes idle after 5 min and you have to close and reopen ThinQTV for it to work. What hack of a developer overlooked this aspect of the offering? Its literally the only thing that matters for this experience. It’s the mark of low quality coders. Someone cheaped out along the way. Imagine if every time you opened the browser on your phone it refuses to load the page and require a restart just to load anything you were browsing. That adds 7-8 taps each time it happens. Major oversight. Extremely unsatisfied.

Very disappointing. Oh but imagine the rewards we will reap through “innovation” spawned by honest “competition”. I’ll admit I don’t run a television manufacturer. But when I couldn’t tell my father that he could come visit me to watch the Tigers game, unless we watched it on my IPhone on Bally Sports - Detroit? Well our rendezvous failed to materialize because it was no longer as easy as clicking on the upper right corner of my IPhone screen to merge two devices on the same WiFi signal? Haha yes it’s not that big a deal but maybe it is. If only I could leave 0 Stars. The Machine 1 Man 0 on this splendid day that capitalism dictates such an occurrence. Guess I should’ve just taken him to Comerica Park for a glorious, come from behind, 4-3 win. I mean I’m sure that wouldn’t have made me feel gouged out of money that would’ve been better served for the “greater good” perhaps? I could get entertaining athletes to show up to play games, inside of any sport, for a daily food per diem and a shot at NIL money. They’d be fighting over the chance to do it! Wait, maybe that already happened? Don’t forget the amateur coaching staffs. I could promise the same outcome in recruiting them to show up too 😂😂
