Loved the free Photo Studio — it’s what kept me with (and loyal to) Square now that their fees are almost comparable to all the other processing services.

Now that they’ve update PhotoStudio with a list of really nice ai-generated backgrounds — which I thought would be a fantastic new upgrade — they’ve decided to start charging for the ai photos. All without letting you see a preview of your photo before using.

You pay for 40 photos and end up having one deducted every time you generate it to see how it looks with your product. I like to test out a few backgrounds before deciding on a final one - with their new costs, I’ll just be wasting money trying to find the best background.

Also, they claim 40 free to start out but I tried out at most a dozen and now am being charged for it. Very disappointed in Square’s approach to this. Nothing separates them from all the other processing companies now.

This was a good APP. Then they decided to change and start charging. Which is fine, I get that people want to make money. But this is a SHAM!! If you pay for a package of 20 pictures then you expect to get 20 pictures. Not in PhotoStudio. When you use the generator it gives you 4 pictures to choose from. You would expect that that one picture, if you chose one, would come off your account. No. They dock you for all 4 of the samples!! And if you don’t like any of them, so sorry! You just lost 4 pics! This is an incredible RIPOFF! And A SHAM!! 😡😡 SHAME ON YOU!!!

Taking/Uploading and tagging photos works great. Cutting out backgrounds works great. Easy to use overall.

No way to rotate an image. Can’t upload more than one image to a sku (only replace). No way to add images to a specific variation of a sku (available on web). Doesn’t resize images so uploads are huge too too heavy causing slow loading. Photos take a few minutes to show up in your admin/site.

Work on some core improvements from the average user perspective and it’ll be a very useful app.

At first glance I loved PhotoStudio, that was until I tried to use it. The categories feature will not sync with my site, I have 4 categories on my site

I take a photo
tap add to square, and boom 0 categories shown, I have to create a new category for every single item I post via PhotoStudio and then clean it all up on the back end IF and only if PhotoStudio doesn’t crash mid upload!

Spent 2 hours on the phone with square, did all the trouble shooting, delete and reinstall, log In log out, update IOS, restart phone, reset network settings.

Now I’ve been given an internal email for the “photo team” who I haven’t heard back from.

Really hoping to get this resolved because it seems like an awesome app. Just awful tech support really, impossible to get someone on the phone that knows anything

So i’ve been looking through all of the different ai backgrounds options correlating with my products, weighing which looks best with it. I haven’t saved or actually used any option. Because it counts the number of generations you make instead of the phots you save/use, i can no longer see a preview of the backgrounds with my products. Its prompts me to buy so many photos for x amount of money. Its not worth buying if i cant preview (freely) before it counts towards the amount of photos i choose to buy.

First, thank you for making this tool available! I do have an issue however. It is incredibly annoying and counterproductive to have to keep scrolling through to find images because your app keeps switching to “all photos” in the middle of attempting to find images in specific albums. I understand PhotoStudio primarily is for live snapping so maybe there was not a lot of thought in the retrieval of photos not immediately selectable but that should change or just remove the albums option since it defaults back to all photos while accessing the album.

We use square for our business and I got hooked on PhotoStudio right away! It makes removing image backgrounds super easy and helps create great product images. However, it’s deceptive in saying it’s free. After so many images, it will start making you purchase them. As we already pay an arm and a leg for square’s services, we will not be purchasing more software from them, like this photo studio.

This is probably the most simplistic and easy to quickly use app of this type for generating photos for e-commerce. However, the refine background tool is difficult to use in my opinion. It would be nice if you could see what will be erased while you are touching the screen and then actually erase when you release. Or if there was a way to draw a straight line. Similar to the way a line tool works on digital art programs. Its very easy to accidentally erase areas that need to be left and then you have to undo what seems like a million times to finally get the result you want. All things considered, this is the fastest way I’ve found to prep basic photos for selling items online though.

In it’s current state (version 1.0.2) I can’t use it. Seeing the replies to other’s feedback, I’m encouraged. PhotoStudio is needed very much. I searched for years and have not found anything.

Pros:
A catalog item can be created easily with Photo, Title, Description and Price.
With WooCommerce integration the item syncs!

Cons:
Needs ability to take multiple photos of an item.
There are no camera controls to adjust focus, lighting, or other photos settings. (See ProCamera for an abundance of ideas)

Suggestions:
No SKU input: For UPC items a scanner would be useful, for non UPC items a SKU template would be useful.
Audio recording so I can capture details while inspecting the item. (Dimensions, weight, etc.)
Get some target niches and beta testers in those niches. This tool is not really going to be used by people who sell mass produced items that have professional photographs (i.e. the Keds tennis shoe example).

I’m going to be obsessed with PhotoStudio for weeks. I’ve been wanting something like this for years! It’s making my online store so much easier to build! Even though my different companies sent me media images, they didn’t fit in my online store dimensions. Each company has a different look too. Now all my photos will look and have the same quality.

What a game changer when it comes to our website photos for our home baked goods. By removing the background (our cupboard or table) and adding a little shadow effect, our products now look totally professional! Syncs quick and easy with our Square sales app and website. This makes us look good while making it so easy!

Yeah those little dinky boxes you had to buy if you ever did arbitrage or took photos of purchased or made items to sell online that fell apart instantly…. Those dark overwhelming days are over. 🪄🪄🪄🪄🌅🆒🆓🆕🆗
Welcome to the best app for not only making your items look professionally photographed thanks to some gorgeous yet minimal features on PhotoStudio like the shadow effects in those dinky boxes but also removing the need for a green screen with proper lighting with people. I do wish it had a video mode. But overall, I’m happy It caught my eye & I found photo studio.

I was a bit skeptical due to the harsh reviews but I tried it anyways and thankfully I did because this makes it easy to get professionally photos without all the hard work and still looks like it came from the professionals I really enjoy it also because it connects to your square space account and makes easy to upload products

This phenomenal app if you have the ability to use it, is so easy, simple, and beautiful all at the same time. Something that would take me 15 minutes on photoshop took me less than 30 seconds in PhotoStudio.

However, there’s a lot of apps out now that offer that, but how many can post DIRECTLY TO YOUR STORE?! None.

Thank you for making this awesome app, and I can’t wait to see where the future of Squareup goes from here.

I work at a Lacrosse store where many times, we have to take photos of our custom products. My light booth does a decent enough job, but PhotoStudio saves me from all the editing I’d have to do on Photoshop or Lightroom. Usually I’d dislike AI for taking a potential job (lol), but this just makes my job easier; the final product is so clean too.

This a is amazing! It takes your background and makes it disappear, and then it gives you choices of the type of backgrounds you want behind it! I have not seen another app like it anywhere. Also it’s free if you use the square app already!! I would definitely recommend using PhotoStudio for sure!!

I love PhotoStudio! It makes it so easy to see ale pictures, edit, use a different background or none at all! I can save it my camera roll or use it to immediately add to Square and create a new item. I will definitely be using this going forward, for continuity on my website and ease of use! 🙌🏻

I’ve tried many apps and programs to take images of my products over the years and this one is the easiest and best I’ve seen. It can take products even on complex backgrounds and create colored or transparent backgrounds in seconds. Plus it was free so kudos to the development team on this outstanding product!

Thank you so much square four everything you do to help my small business. Couldn’t do itWithout you. And since the pandemicI had to close my business of eight years. Now I am reopening and have discovered that I have to sell things online it really hasn’t been easy making the transition because I’m more of a hands-on face-to-face kind of person . But times have changed and we all are adapting so I’m adapting to the new way. PhotoStudio makes it really easy

I really like PhotoStudio and am glad Square has it. It makes it so much easier to be able to take pictures of your items and not have to edit them and remove any background. Makes it faster to get new inventory pictured and posted!
