Boring do not download!

2024-04-11

This game was a disappointment to me because it looked good. Playing was very boring and all you do is talk to people and walk around (basically the summary) not only that but the characters where completely blank, they would not load in they where either all blanked out( completely white or black) or half of them would not even appear where they where supposed to be. If the developers make the game more enjoyable then I’d change the review. I recommend you don’t buy this game because it’s pretty laggy and extremely boring.

I’m tired of this.

Many groups of people in history have been mistreated by another. We all understand that it can be quite tragic to remember and be reminded of what took place in American history. However, no one should paint all Americans with the same brush. My family immigrated from Romania, Germany, and Holland in the late 1800’s because of increasing hatred and bigotry towards people of diverse heritages. We found freedom in America! It’s really sad to see similar things going on in America today. I am light colored skinned American with no ties to the Americans who enslaved other people with different tones of skin. Will we ever move on from the divide? Not till Jesus comes and makes everything right.

Not for me

2024-02-22

As a person of color I don’t think this game is for me. It’s about showing people “white folk” was bad, is bad and will always be bad… Games should be about having fun, not having a history lesson through the eyes of people who want to instill feelings of oppression, racial angst and animosity towards the “white folk” or any other race. This game should’ve been called BLM or Progressive views on race or Social Justice Warriors. I’m tired of being told things will be made easier for my people because they don’t think we can compete at the same level as everyone else and thus the system has to be dumbed down for me and my people so that we can succeed. If you are all about progressive activism then this game is for you.

More of a story than a game. Choices are limited.

2024-05-31

This game was a bit disappointing to me. The artwork is great but other than that, the gameplay is very much on tracks. The most you can do is walk back and forth, interact with 3-4 objects and talk to a handful of NPCs. I’m not even sure it did a good job of communicating the story — I have family in Detroit and I’m black — I still didn’t feel very invested in the characters. I’m not sure how the choices I made lead to the ending I got — I watched the other ones after and that did not clear things up very much.

I’m disappointed because I wanted to like this game. It would have been better as an interactive picture book. There’s just not actual game play. Finally it’s pretty clear what the developers think of the available choices — I.e. judgement is passed on you based on your decisions and it’s obvious whether that judgement is positive or negative.

Further by making these choices into binaries (rent or buy for example) it really oversimplifies the message that I think this game is trying to send about race, place and community.

Overall it’s a reasonable effort for a sociological intervention but as a game it’s a long way off from success.

Teaches about discrimination

2024-05-21

This game does a great job at showing housing discrimination towards POC. It really makes you think about which choices to pick because there isn’t really a correct answer. It’s short and straight to the point. If you want a little insight about this topic then this is a great choice

Really fun, also pretty sort

2024-05-23

I loved the game! The graphics were really good and I loved how you could make choices. I somehow chose the correct options to get the best ending so I completed the game in about 90 minutes. You can look at the other two endings without having to go through it again if you want to, which I liked.

So if you want a cool, pretty and short-ish game, this is perfect.

Great educational game nice and short

2024-05-23

I loved what the game was trying to accomplish and felt it did exactly what was intended. It made me think, I sat and thought about what decisions to make carefully because it made me think about my own position right now. The news was very insightful as well. I appreciated it and love the artwork as well. We should have more games like this to help educate our people on other topics as well.

Love it ! W/ some complaints

2024-05-23

the only thing i found inconvenient is Dot walking around aimlessly when it’s just be easier to click her in the direction w/o being able to go around everywhere else if there isn’t anything to interact with. I love the message they convey with the history of black people in america trying to settle and support each other in their communities. Overall a 9/10 game.

Excellent for using gaming as an educational tool

2024-05-23

Dot’s Home is a journey that forces players to ask tough questions. The game challenges you with real devil’s choices, illustrating the everyday decisions that disenfranchised people in America have have suffered for decades. The game resonates most as it tours through the dream of home ownership, trotting through time and racial history until we arrive at place that doesn’t look too different from the headlines we see today. Think of it as a playing a Telltale Game distilled to its essence. No zombies or gimmick IP. Just life. And unfair human decisions. Choose well. The game will remember that.

Great learning

2024-05-21

I love this game! The graphics were very nice. It was easy to move around. You have to really look around and think about the choices you make and how they affect the future. I wish the game was longer. I hope you guys make other stories or continue that. It was great

Amazing game

2024-05-23

Someone said it’s racist no it isn’t it is educational! This is how poc were treated and gentrification is still something happening today, it was about a two hour gameplay for me and you got to see all endings! If you want to learn a little about history play this game and don’t be offended by it because this sh.. really happened. The most confusing part was all the keys that I didn’t use I’ll play through again to see if they had a purpose but play this game!

This game was Amazingggg!!

2024-04-12

I loved this game. It was so interesting. And it was so true about how hard it was for people of minority to settle down and put their roots somewhere. I feel like this game illustrated it perfectly. I love how dot has to make hard choices that will impact her family’s future. And I love how they are tryibggg bc to save their neighborhood so that the white man can’t take it.

TL;DR Never Take You Grandma's Financial Advice

2024-05-23

Ok I'm playing, but an aspect of this game that I think this game nails on the head is that the pursuit of constantly getting richer can separate you from the people that matter in your life... and leave you open to manipulation.

If you wanna speedrun the good ending, rent, stick with Amos, and rent to the Tawfiqs. It's not money that makes a good life, it's people.

Oh, and having grown up in "well-to-do" environments. the neutral and bad endings about the kids being too well behaved and the police notices of noise complaints, of people keeping to themselves... it's horrible and depressing. Having a strong community and an environment where you can actually walk outside and greet neighbors... that's what really matters in life.

Whew….well…um

2024-05-23

Im nowhere near finished. Matter of fact, I only had about 5 minutes of gameplay before i had to put it down. I didnt realize I had such PTSD. I wish I could say im too young to have experienced this but I was a witness to this just in 2014. Seeing Dot go thru it, makes me want to jump thru the screen and turn this into a fighting game. To stop more people from going thru it. Except its the other way around this is just a game…I have to fight IRL.. the fight is real… 🤢

Amazing

2024-05-23

This game is so beautiful and really brings out the poverty of colored and immigrated folks when looking for a home for their families. It shows that when you’re looking out for each other instead of the profit, it leads to even greater blessings. Though, the profit may be rewarding as well. I would like to applaud the game developers and storytellers for the opportunity of making this game free to play with a fully developed storyline. No adds, beautiful plot, as well as a cherishing message. 10/10 🥹👏🏾👏🏾

Something everyone should play

2024-04-12

I have finished this a few times and am still a bit in awe. It is more like a good story/game combo but still enjoyable. It offers a different perspective not often shared or explained but isn’t super ‘lesson’ or ‘text book’ driven. It’s a great reminder how every choice has outcomes and consequences regardless of what you choose.

Needs more content- GREAT IDEA THO!

2024-05-21

I finished this in about an hour or so. Needs more content. This is a great way for people to learn about what other cultures in their communities go through, and helps instill determination not to allow it to continue. Make more! Sooooo much more!❤️💯

So interesting and beautiful

2024-04-12

This game is so engaging and such a well written and interesting story. I loved it a lot. I wish it went on for longer! I restarted it as soon as i got to the end, hoping to look at how different decisions could shape up. Thank you for such a beautiful little game, please make more! This is amazing

Highlights housing discrimination

2024-05-23

It does a really good job of showing how housing discrimination works throughout the years esp in America.

The transitions from time periods were clear cut and engrossing. The past has a slight dreamlike quality to it just in the same way as the mc is affected by it, and we get to kinda feel how it is for her too. The asthma thing really got me thinking.

The art was top notch and I could play through it all in an hour or so. The story was interesting. Reading the paper and how it changed through generations but also stayed the same, showed how things don’t just end. History does repeat itself and we can have a hand in making sure that doesn’t happen. Why would there be a need to flip a home if the neighborhood was invested in properly so that everything was functioning and beautiful for its residents? But well that doesn’t turn a profit, does it?
It really highlighted things to show the guy, real estate agent? Murphy dude. How the grandfather was basically exactly like him, zero change.

Spoilers ***
I’m confused how if the home was sold, in the ending I chose, how did the grandma get to keep living there?? As that’s what it said happened afaik

Amazing, Quick Game

2024-04-12

i loved this game. as a black woman living in a area being gentrified this hits home to me. i wish the game was a little longer and plot a little thicker but it’s a fun quick game. it wasn’t overwhelmingly emotional but enough to get you thinking and appreciate what you have. i would play this game again absolutely.

So grateful

2024-04-12

This game filled me with guilt and self-hatred for my whiteness. Thank you so much. I know that it’s my fault and I am so grateful that a person of color saw it in their heart to educate me (which is NOT their job) about her or his oppression at the hands of bad whites.

Thank you!!! 5 stars. I’m so sorry about slavery.

PS. Neighborhoods should all be integrated. We all get along real good with those of other cultural backgrounds, just like in the movies.

Cool game

2025-08-20

The game is pretty cool. I like the concept of it and I finished it in about an hour and a half. It would be nice if there were different challenges so that game is longer. Also, it would've been nice to go back to the grandparent's past in South Carolina to make choices there

Absolutely Amazing! Just a few Complaints

2025-01-27

This game is a great game! It’s just sometimes you get lost. So, could you add objectives? Thanks. Also can you make dot run? Like if you click the screen twice she runs. That would be great! Thanks for your time!

Quick game but thoughtful

2025-02-28

Game makes you think hard about your choices and rewards/consequences. At the end of the game, you can see what all the different endings are without replaying. Game took me less than an hour, but still good.

This game was adorable and educational!

2025-03-29

I loved the art style of this game and also felt like I learned a bunch about the history of segregation, white flight, and gentrification in many US cities. The game was educational without feeling preachy! The characters were well-designed and relatable.

Very good game

2025-04-30

I absolutely love this game, I’ve actually had to play in small bits so I can finish in a longer time period because everyone saying it’s such a short game and I’m going to be so disappointed when I finish it, because it’s such a good game.

BEST GAME!!!

2025-05-31

This game is AWESOME. I love how a game finally has African American characters, a story line that is a common true story for many of us. The choices are important and you have to think them thorough. There’s no ads and nothing you have to pay for. The story is beautiful and I love it.

Simply breathing!

2025-07-02

Okay first of all this game is op! I love the graphics. The sounds are easy on the ears and calming. The amount of effort put in every Details is breathtaking. The design of the characters and the background are amazing. This game is really good. I loved every second.

Wow the best game I had in years

2025-08-02

I was not expecting a game I actually like for years now we been getting stupid games no story nothing just! This is far the best game not only for educational purposes but the game please keep it going !
