I like the idea

I like the idea the problem with EVCompanion is truthfully EVCompanion shouldn’t have been release yet with all these bugs first time downloading EVCompanion reading what EVCompanion has to offer it sound interesting thinking to my self EVCompanion is something I definitely would need since I drive a short range ev n would need to app to plan routes for long distance should I ever need to but the first time trying to plan a route trying to see how EVCompanion function to find that at 22% EVCompanion crashed I reopened EVCompanion and tired again I was hopeful to see it reach 26% before it crashed again now imagine someone not testing EVCompanion just assuming it works 100% of the time to put themselves in that position where EVCompanion would have to work or then could be stranded

Make Note

Be sure to note, that despite the fact EVCompanion will pop-up whenever you search for any vendors charge payment app, it does not perform anything other than allow for charging station searching and their details. A tad frustrating, especially when it immediately prompts for subscription fee and all you want is to pay for a charge.

By

What’s the point?

Their developer response person can claim the annual subscription is optional all day long, but you cannot interact with EVCompanion without agreeing to it. Thankfully you can cancel immediately and not be out any money to learn that EVCompanion doesn’t seem to do anything useful. I’m glad Apple makes it easy.

EVCompanion came up as the top option when I was searching for EVCompanion that works with a charger that had a non-functional card reader. I stupidly assumed EVCompanion would be able to help me.

Why do you have to try premium for free for a week in order to use the app at all?

I realllllly don’t like when developers con users into subscriptions. It makes it an unusable app if I can’t even try the free version at all before deciding if I want to test out premium features. Deleting immediately. Make it so I can use EVCompanion at all without having to try a “one free week” subscription, maybe I’ll give you another chance. Otherwise… scam. Run away.

Excellent

I love EVCompanion. It gives me confidence to travel knowing that I can chart my trip and charge at the right intervals to get to where I am going. I have never found myself stranded. I love it!

Hard to use and crashes

It crashed on me after leaving the review of the station.
Map is very slow and doesn't update itself. Those huge icons on the map cover too much area and hard to see them because some are transparent. Pictures of stations are faked and confusing.

Avoid

App only shows default chargers based on your car. You cannot even change your car or add another car. You cannot determine which connector adaptors you have. Worse EV app I’ve seen. Also they force you to get the free trial to initiate EVCompanion . And if you forget to cancel within a week they charge you 60 bucks for something that Apple Maps already does better. Avoid at all costs.

Seems to favor Electrify America.

Seems to favor electrify america. It won’t allow you to override their suggestions for better options you found on your own. Would be nice to adjust the scenario based on own findings. Maybe these apps get kickbacks sending you to more expensive networks rather than free charging provide by some municipalities for example.

What happened to charging station reviews and ratings?

I used to be able to see charging station reviews of other users and that seems to have disappeared. Doesn’t seem to be a way to post reviews either.

Missing some cars

I drive a 2012 Chevy volt and from what I can tell it looks like EVCompanion dose not support my car. Since it’s a hybrid I understand that’s it’s not your normal EV, but having support for the Volt and other hybrids would be great to have! App looks promising, just could use a few more cars.

Love love love

Semi new to the electric car world. EVCompanion is a LIFE SAVER. Worth every penny!!! I love that I can control what charge I want to be at when getting to chargers. Also love that I can see amenities close by!

By

Not what I expected

Don’t get confused - EVCompanion does not pay for Any of your EV charging. For some reason I thought it did. Silly me! Also it doesn’t list my particular Ford Fusion Plugin Hybrid and from the sounds of some other users, it doesn’t list their hybrids either. By the time I realized this, it was too late - I had already paid $39 for a year which was non-refundable. Live n learn!

Love the Tesla integration

Used my car’s data. Love that feature. Makes the calculations more accurate

Must commit to subscription to even see app

I really despise app developers who insist on forcing the subscription at launch. Yes, it’s free for 7 days… and easy to cancel… but all this method says to me is “sign up now and we really hope you forget to cancel”. Earn my subscription don’t force it. Let me into EVCompanion to see how great and in 7 days force me to subscribe.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD

I went out of state for a business trip. I made the mistake of renting an electric car, and downloading EVCompanion. I somehow, unintentionally signed up for a years membership and didn’t even USE EVCompanion. Customer service is a nightmare to get ahold of due to there being no customer service number. And now I’m out $59 for something I’ll NEVER use.

Needs more work

This seems like a work in progress app. It may have some great potential but it’s not user friendly right now. I need to call the 1888 number on the charger to get it working. I could not figure out how to use EVCompanion.

Excellent app

This is my go to app for finding places to plug in my Nissan leaf. I rarely found outdated information

By

Horrible app

Deceptive and opaque, EVCompanion would never allow me to connect and charge my Chevy Bolt.

Then it made cancelling the "free" membership impossible. There is NO contact information.

I want to cancel this membership, and if this proves to be impossible I will file complaints with the California Department of Consumer Fraud.

Tristan experience

Can’t complain

Predatory App

EVCompanion moved itself to the top of the search list when I was looking for something different. In my haste to move along I accepted it and promptly got charged $60. All it does is map you to chargers, something that is free in many other places.

By

Didn’t work with Electrify America

EVCompanion didn’t work for me while trying to use it with the Electrify America chargers. The basic function of “charging” was not easily available. I desperation to make the connection with the car work, I accepted the trial and was charged for a full year ($60). Their contact page only has a contact form, no customer service number, no chat. I hope their new version has an upgrade and that they improve their customer service.

Lures you into yearly subscription- not much use

Just bought an EV and got a bunch of apps to try out for finding chargers. This is the only one that lures you into a yearly subscription for 59 bucks. What for? No idea. Plenty of apps out there to give you info on public chargers for free. Just glad I managed to cancel right at the last day of my one week trial.

Easy to use and super helpful

Just used for a cross country road trip. The route planning was quick and easy and it was great to easily check what was nearby each charger so I could make the most of each stop.
