Road to Hana Reviews

We tried using RoadtoHana and paid for Both tours for the road to Hana in Maui. Because it is NOT clear when you’ve purchased it. It never downloaded and therefore would NOT work on the Road to Hana sue to the spotty or lack of Cell reception. Even after it was “Downloaded” we made three of the many many narrated stops and it would kick
Me out of RoadtoHana and then if by chance we got in service, it would not pick back up and RoadtoHana page froze!

RoadtoHana would have show off the road and then the narration would stop even though we were still driving on the road. We missed almost half of the narration due to this. And then when it did play it would often be delayed and we would miss the turn offs mentioned.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have the best experience with RoadtoHana. To start, there was an annoying beep that would keep beeping unless you click on the map view. Secondly, I was really disappointed because most of the drive, I didn’t have service so that meant RoadtoHana didn’t work. I thought it would at least have the narration downloaded to the phone to be able to at least manually play each audio clip. Only got to listen to a few of the audio clips before my service ran out and we couldn’t use RoadtoHana . The UI is a bit counterintuitive.

I had to hit the “map” button every time the narrator started or an annoying beep would go off. When we were out of cell range RoadtoHana would crash a few times. Even restarted my device to see if it helped. A bit frustrating. Better to have someone other than the driver to tend to RoadtoHana ! Some of the announcements came late and we had to do a tight u-turn to get to the point of interest. Granted, the Europeans did some damage in the past, there were plenty of references to ethnic bias. We loved the Road to Hanna and don’t regret it.

Technically the program is brilliant. Comes on as you drive to tell you history or information about what’s coming up. But the content is SERIOUSLY lacking. How do you give information about the history of the taro root or the relationship between George Harrison and his landscaper… but not a mention or whisper of such upcoming attractions such as the Black Sand Beach, Seven Springs or even Lindbergh’s gravesite? I needed assistance in locating or accessing important stops much more than interesting (but hardly vital) history.

Driving solo I thought I could map and drive but it was too difficult. Plus there was no Verizon signal most of the trip. And offline maps wasn’t showing sites.

RoadtoHana allowed me to drive, focus on the road, and know when to turn off for a site. RoadtoHana features a route, sites, and history of Maui.

The cost is $10 but I think it’s worth it.

Easy to understand narrator who provided some interesting background on the island and the culture along the road. Well done

The audio was very informative, and was great that the audio was automatic, but the map was where the audio started and not where the actual stop was located making it difficult to use RoadtoHana to navigate the road.

This was a great buy for us! We started driving at Road to Hana around 10:30am and came back our place at Kihei at 8:30pm. This audio guide works perfectly with the GPS and give us really interesting short but great info for each upcoming attraction so we can decide if we do it and really interesting history about Maui and Hawaii. We as a whole family really enjoyed very much the guide. There were so much to see and explore and we did not make to Hana and had to turn back while we are 8 miles away at around 6:30pm as sky is getting dark. On our way back, we finished listening the remaining missing trip which was a plus. We learned there are still a couple of really interesting sites such as lava tube we have not explored. We will definitely come back again to finish the rest of trip. Highly recommended for anyone who is doing a Road to Hana tour on their own.

It would be great if the dot that indicates your current location was a different color other than Blue - even better if is was blinking constantly!

I have been burnt in the past with these types of new technologies. I did not want to spend a lot and retake the risk. This tour showed me a demo; it was reasonable $8, it worked fine; then I bought it.

Every penny was worth it. This is a once or twice a lifetime trip. I feel that we got the most of it. I am sure that we did not miss anything and all stories were beautifully said. Fantastic.

GPS was the magic. We set it and forgot it. It kept playing as we drove.

We’ve taken the road to Hana before but RoadtoHana and guided tour made it more enjoyable and gave us tips where to stop to have the best experience. I highly recommend spending the $7.95 for this experience.

We did two of the Shaka Guide tours — the North Shore of Oahu and the Road to Hana on Maui. Both were terrific — you can take as long (or as little) at a number of different attractions, and the guide provides helpful information about food options, facilities, etc. We would definitely consider doing another tour if we ever have the opportunity!

We enjoyed learning about the island during our drive and it is helpful to know where you’re going when cell service is out, because RoadtoHana still works.

I was not expecting much from this but was beyond impressed with the information shared throughout RoadtoHana. We were on the road for a total of 13 hours driving around Maui. We had two cars (one person with RoadtoHana in each car), and 10 people total (including kids). I have native Hawaiian lineage and learned a ton listening to the information in RoadtoHana . I appreciated the stop suggestions but even more loved the Hawaiian history shared. This was an incredible value. We all agree that we would’ve paid 3x what we did for how wonderful RoadtoHana was.

RoadtoHana worked great and enhanced our experience along the Road. Our whole family (11-50 years of age) enjoyed the narration.

I think the only thing that would be better is to have some additional narration for the return trip, maybe introduce some regional music.

Literally just came back from doing the Road to Hana tour from the airport and let me say RoadtoHana was AMAZING!!! I would recommend having someone else keep up with RoadtoHana while another one drives! We did not have any signal but RoadtoHana made sure to keep up with our location! Definitely will use again when ever I come back!! 5/5 recommend!!!

Our maps app wouldn’t work because there is NO SERVICE on the road to Hana but RoadtoHana took us all the way and kept up with our location the whole time. It had useful tips and secret/exclusive locations. We absolutely loved the stop that was down the service road! 10/10 would recommend for the $7 download for road to Hana!

If you enjoy learning about different cultures from the comfort of your own car then this is for you! I have two kids that are in elementary and this gave them an insight into Hawaiian history. They felt like they learned more from this than a regular day of online school. (This was joy of vacation speaking.) My husband and I were enthralled about all these talking points and couldn’t help but realize how mistreated these people were mistreated after slavery had already ended.

Absolutely enjoyed this driving tour! Informative, accurate, well narrated and easy to use. I hope they have driving tours for the other islands because I am definitely using them again!
