Putting your images in the thumbnail cache in the files app, which doesn’t need a login, really defeats the whole purpose of privacy and security.

This review is for the Web Drive. Please fix the file viewing in web drive app. The Web App advertises "Smart Folders" but you cannot even navigate between them since the GUI is hidden by the IOS tab panes. Overall there is a lot of functionality but is hindered by GUI implementation.

I’d give it 1 star but my phone is broken. I can’t login cause I can’t reset my password. I try to reset and they won’t send me the link. If you get too many failed attempts, they delete your info. If you don’t login, they delete your info. It’s a terrible app. I am not saving passcodes for top secret nuclear launch codes, why is security doing its best to keep me out of my own account? Dial it back a notch. Also I don’t like the layout, it’s difficult to find photos or videos you uploaded.

What’s the point of encryption, password
Protection, and locking everything in Filen when the application creates a folder and saves it all right it plain sight, right in the Files app. That’s very bad for security. Even if you turn the thumbnails off, all offload content is still visible very easily in the files folder. I had high hopes for this up, maybe if you fix that and keep it all internally on Filen , I’ll return. Until then I’m going back to SYNC

I just discovered that it generates thumbnails that are completely unprotected and visible from the Apple Files app.

For an app that’s about total security and privacy this was quite unexpected to see.

Pretty bummed as I was looking forward to switching over from pCloud. I hope they fix this asap. An option to cache thumbnails in a way which doesn’t expose them to the Files app is a must have for any app touting its security and privacy focus.

Would be 5/5 if there is integration with the ios file system itself. Opens up a lot of possiblities to use in conjuction with other apps (like Obsidian etc)

Automatic Camera upload functionality fails to upload some photos and videos. It is difficult to scroll through all images and identify which are failed to upload. Some PDF files fail to load for previewing and instead a black page is shown. But the service is very affordable and can be reliably used for storing documents and media that you upload manually.

Would use if it would compress more but the file size is just a tad smaller.

Filen is still young development but has potential to grow like many mature cloud storage. I really like the privacy aspect of it. I think end to end encryption and zero knowledge access technology will be in more demand because people are sick of data breach and data broker where internet users data is being collected and sold every day. It’s a sick internet world and it has to change for the better.

Right now, if you have an album with pictures and videos you cannot scroll through both and it’s very annoying. (To see them both, you have to be out of full screen mode and just open and close each and every image.)

Coming from Android to iOS Filen is basically the same in functionality and the service is great. I’ve just been waiting forever now for an in app video viewer without needing to download like you can with photos and stuff.

It would be convenient to have this app mounted like what Tresorit and pCloud allow, which allows the user to 1. Use the files app for transferring files to the cloud service, and 2. Would allow the user to upload whole folders at once

this app doesn’t work with VPNs….what?! Hope this is a glitch because of the update and not something that’s on purpose because this would be dumb

Thanks for resolving the issue with the thumbnail cache. this app is now easily the best solution to a secure and private cloud storage.

As a technology professional and infosec enthusiast, I can wholeheartedly recommend this app. Fully encrypted, open source, and inexpensive. The iOS app is also excellent, and it fully integrates with the Files app.

Pro tip: you can see what data this app stores about you by going to Settings -> Account -> Show GDPR info.

I was able to upload all my files and photos after switching cloud providers and had no hiccups. Besides the free/default version being incredibly generous, the premium prices are just as generous. I’ve been looking for a cloud storage service being reliable and secure across many platforms.
