Taio - Markdown & Text Actions Reviews

Like Obsidian ++ and massively extensible for both Programmers and Boomers, alike!

If you’ve been following along in the personal knowledge base / note-taking sector the past few years, you’ve no doubt suffered, and survived, the “paper-proxies” (unevolved) melange of bland advancements in an glass of Evernote milk or the sweet-sugarlessness of a Notion rice cake. You may have even heard the enticing siren’s song in the music of advanced, pricey, and locked-in New Kids on The Block that is RoamResearch. Or tasted the freedom of openness and extensibility in the sophisticated, prix fixe of Obsidian, to be struck stymied and stupid, mired in the of heady haute couture of its code-linguist user base.

this app, or Text All-in-One, is all this from roots to tip and a whole garden of immediately useable AND also moldable tools (a la Glamorous Toolkit)!

It’s like a preassembled Lego spaceship plus an auto-3D-printer to extend and shape and remake in your own graven images!

this app is an export, import, shortcut, links, backlinks, wikilinks, actions, open sourced bundle of Amazingness!

I gladly paid for the lifetime upgrades pro version and am amazed daily at the value of this this app-tool.

Judging by all of their glowing reviews, it is possibly that I am just not the right user for Taio. As a new user, I found Taio difficult. I did figure out how to create, edit and preview a markdown file, but not before running into many, many buttons, which, when clicked show a “pro only” message without telling what it does and how it woks- frustrating, confusing. It is also not immediately clear how to get in and start writing, which seems not the best for a writing app (my favorite markdown editor at the moment is typora, which is super clean, but not available for ipad). It seems this app might be doing something interesting with their clipboard feature, but I could not figure out how it works. Lastly, as others have mentioned, there seems to be no way to access files on google drive / dropbox which limits the utility of Taio for my purposes.

My favorite way to take typed notes on my Mac is with the Obsidian app, but that app lacks a mobile counterpart; this is where this app comes in. With this app, I can edit the markdown files that I create in Obsidian by taking advantage of its iCloud Drive integration. The provision of a plethora of editor themes enhances the user experience and the support for back links is second to none and is what makes Taio feel tailor-made for Obsidian users.

The two main features that I wish this app had were Dropbox sync, since I prefer to use Dropbox as opposed to iCloud for cloud storage, and native Spotlight search, so that I can open a document in this app directly from Spotlight.

Regarding appearance, it would be nice if the themes worked in the preview and editor modes, since they currently only work in editor mode. Additional themes or the ability to make your own themes would be cool as well, but I don’t consider those to be must-have features.

Overall, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed using this app and consider it to be one of the three best note-taking apps on iOS, right alongside Bear and Craft Notes.

Absolutely excellent app thus far! I’ve been looking for a really clean, easy to use, and functional note/markdown app. Since Taio shows so much promise and the developer is obviously active, I went for the pro features. I greatly look forward to added functionality since I’ll be using it for a lot of my day to day. It’ll be awesome to see if there will be added functionality for calendar/reminder integration as well. Great work!

There is a steep learning curve, and it is rather buggy, but I dealt with it because of promises of it being at least partly free.
After an update, it is all just nags for money. Every button, everything. Open a file on you iPad, and it diverts to Taio, shows up, asks for money, and closes it. They have to tease you by showing it for a moment, too.
So, if you want a buggy text editor without copy, paste, text file support, or find, here it is.
Hopefully, this review goes through. I’ve tried to post a negative review many times for months, but they never show. I have given reviews of other apps, so I guess it’s Taio only. Anyway, can’t stand fighting Taio every time I open a text file. Good riddens.

I have been in search of a plain text markdown editor to use for a companion app with Obsidian. Prior to this app, I was using 1Writer. The latter got me by, but Taio was clunky! Using this app for a week now, it is well polished, nice UI, fast and feature rich. It is a pleasure to use. The developer really seems to care. He helped with an issue I was having, be it my own ignorance, rather than app related problems.

Give it a try you won’t be disappointed.

Love the design of this especially the actions available. Good for the hard work!
However, my files are all in OneDrive, so now it’s not very convenient for me. If a changed is made on other device, accessing it in ‘Recents’ wouldn’t show the change but a old copy would be saved.
I’m happy to know that the devs are considering this function, I just want to say that I am one of who really needs this. : )

This is easily one of the most underrated apps in the ecosystem. If you are a power user of any kind and want to be able to do basically anything you can imagine with text, Taio is your tool. Or simply want the ability to have an easy clipboard manager for your iPad or iPhone, this is your app. The developers are friendly and responsive. I cannot recommend Taio highly enough!

Mr. Zhong's works are as good as it could be, this one as well. As an existing user of Pin, I couldn't imagine that there's a possibility of a better clipboard. It turns out there is. this app is so smooth that you'd think it's one of Apple's system apps. It's also so smart that for a curious user like me, you can always try out a new way to edit your texts.

Started a free trial and forgot to cancel or even try it before it renewed as a yearly subscription. BEST MISTAKE EVER.I don’t have time to write for in-depth review, but if youAre looking for a text editor/ markdown app, this is a great one to try. A surprising amount of useful and powerful features with a clean, attractive interface. I definitely recommend!

It’s a very powerful tool, which is better than any others. The feature Text Tokenization and search, or Extract phone number from content are really powerful and useful! 5 star, definitely!

Would love the ability to import files from cloud services other than iCloud. Will this be implemented at some point?

I love this app, don’t get me wrong. But I honestly can’t use it without the support to add whole Dropbox folders into my file viewer. Dropbox is my main base of operations and I can’t afford to use the file picker every single time I want to find a file. Either that, or browse through recent ones.

If I’m missing something, please let me know.

this app is rock solid. One can just write with it. The concept of including functions such as a clipboard manager, snippets and actions makes it virtually all-inclusive. I use it on my tablet and phone, too.

This opens up a whole new ball game for fast text workflows. I can't wait to see how this evolves, and kudos to the developer for making Taio possible. Thank you.

Like the interface but your sync engine doesn't recognize local changes and keeps bugging to merge changes as edits are made. Maybe it's a recent bug. Seems to affect files whether they are local to the iOS device or on iCloud.

Was looking for a way to edit markdown files from a fit report on my iPad, and this app does a great job. Even has docs for using it with my favorite iOS gif client, Working Copy.

I have been in search for an app that can do everything in Markdown, sync with iCloud, have something like a GitHub gists of it's own, etc.

this app does literally everything!!

The actions are a great way to keep some special automation tasks separate from the Siri Shortcuts to avoid clutter.

Any person in the apple ecosystem should use Taio for note taking (specially programmers).

Been a JSBox and Pin user for a longtime, really useful App. It’s gonna be better if you allow users to use TextExpander snippers in any where in future updates.

I absolutely love Taio. I already bought the Pro license. This is what all text editors should be.

I am excitedly awaiting the macOS version...I hope my license varies over 🤞
